Annoying: Track #s Mixed up in Library

A bunch of the track numbers for songs are mixed up so that the CD is out of order.
When I sort as "Album by Artist" it will do things like display #13 before #1 or #12-16 in between #5 and #6. Artist, Album Artist, and Album are all the same. I tried to re-input the track numbers and they still went back into the same positions. This is really annoying and I don't know why they just won't go in the right order. Help anyone?

Having the EXACT same problem on one of my windows XP boxes.

I've added disc numbers, track numbers, filename changes... nothing gets these CDs sorted correctly

  • Why Can't I Import Track 10 from my Music Library?

I have 350 albums in my computer music library and I can't import any track 10 song from an album to iTunes. The message I get is: "The file 10 <Whatever Song Name>.wma cannot be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file." This happens on every track 10 title in my library and on one track 1 title that is 14 minutes long. Help!

I am a PC user, but this may help you??:
I am having the same problem with track 10 on two Springsteen CDs that would not play in my desktop PC (one was a dual dvd, the other a regular CD). So first, to get them to work, I had to find a source (my laptop) that would "see" the CD. Then I ripped to Windows Media, then copied onto an external hard drive, then imported into iTUnes.
Everything went well until track 10 on both (After that, the rest of the tracks imported okay on one CD, and then on the other track 11 had a problem, but the rest ok).I found a posting (see below for the link) and it solved the problem on track 10 on both (basically I changed the track# to another number else in the Properties/ Summary/ Advanced section). However it didn't work for that one track 11. So if anyone has ideas on that, I'd appreciate it. I tried fiddling with all the differnt categories in Summary (track name, album name, etc) and rename the song itself, removing the number, but to no avail. Here is the posting that I found the solution on

The tracks are not in your iTunes library?
Or they are in the library but will not sync to the iPad?
    Select the iPad in iTunes.
Click the Music tab at top.
Tick Sync music and make sure Sync all is selected or if Sync selected is selected, make sure you tick what you want to sync.
FYI: Burn means to create a CD (because you burn with the laser). RIP means to get off an audioCD onto the computer.

  • Alesis 12 Track USB Mixer

Hello everyone, I was before using a USB headset mic to record stuff on my iMac, using it for Skype so I could do shows on talkshoe and also record stuff on garage band.
I recently bought tho, an Alesis 12 Track USB Mixer board, plus a MXL mic.
Problem is none of the audio is actually going into the iMac, like Skype, nor more importantly, Garage Band.
AS per instructions, I changed the audio drivers to the USB AUDIO CODEC like it says on both the Audio in & Audio out and still to no avail...
I feel like I am missing another connection of some sort that would from my mac to the board...
Any help would be VERY much appreciated.

as iSteveus said, you'll only be able to record 2 tracks at most. skim this tute for the solution to your error:

    Hey Hisheroisgonex,
Thanks for the question, and welcome to Apple Support Communities.
If the track is no longer in your iTunes Library, you can re-download using the information in this article:

  • Can I separate a 6-track music bed in STP library into discrete tracks?

Some of the 'music beds' found in SoundTrack Pro have 6 tracks. I have imported them into a FCP project and they appear on 6 discrete tracks. I find myself mixing them in FCP, bit this is sluggish. Afterall, I bought Sountrack Pro and would like to use it for this purpose. But when I drag a music bed file from the STP library into a STP Multi-track project, all 6 tracks go into one track. Is there a way to get them to separate into discrete tracks in STP, as they do in FCP?
    Thanks very much, Bob

Try holding down the option key as you drag the file into the timeline.

  • Digital DJ mixes using Itunes library

    Hi,
I hope someone out there can help me decide whether Garageband is the right option. I am looking for a program to make digital DJ mixes using my iTunes library. I used Pro Tools many years ago for years, so I am not new to hard disk recording. I just want to import, maybe 10 or 15 songs, and mix them over 2 or 3 tracks. Then track them so each song will track on a cd player but still continuously
play track to track (I forgot what this is called, its been a while.) Just like a DJ mix. Pitching each track is very important. Does Garageband offer Time Stretch/Compression? I want to digitally beat-match each song to mix in/out. I'm also running an older ibook (see below). Should i look for an older version of iLife? Does it sound like Garageband can do these functions painlessly? Are the any other programs out there more suitable?
Any information on this subject is greatly appreciated.

I've been using GarageBand to digitize vinyl- It's great for that (with my Motu 896)
I've been messing with an M-audio DJ mixing interface, and Torq Mixlab's "light" version. It works with Core Audio- feeds off your iTunes stash automatically, and records the mix too. To be able to use headphones in the DJ way if you don't have a multichannel interface an iMic works well.
There's other software I've been experimenting with- because the computer I use for our music server is kinda slow. Here's some title's you'll like tasting:
DJay: (49$ and worth it!!!) http://www.algoriddim.net/
    Mixxx (free!) http://www.mixxx.org/
    Audiophile (free!) http://homepage.mac.com/a_logan/PWS/
    DrDJ (free) http://www.lievendekeyser.net/
Hope that info helps your quest. My goal is to make my M-audio midimixer wirelessly feed off my iTunes library- and stream the mix to different audio zones around the house via a couple airport expresses. I'm almost there! Yippie!

  • Tracks missing from albums in library

i have tried importing ensuring all artist info is the same, still i miss certian tracks from the album.itunes reads it as an album but when imported i have the odd track missing, help help..please

Generally all you need to do is fill in an appropriate Album Artist. For more details see my article on Grouping Tracks Into Albums, in particular the topic One album, too many covers.
Sorting on the album column may help to reveal the missing tracks which could be sorted elsewhere in the library and so only appear to be missing.

  • Some tracks won't add to library

Switched from the Zune software to iTunes this week after getting a 1st gen iPod Touch and it was all going so well until I realised a whole bunch of my music was missing from my library. I've tried adding from the file menu and dragging/dropping but neither will work. I select the file or folder to add but absolutelt nothing happens, no error message, nothing. Strangely it seems to be specific albums that are affected rather than random individual tracks, but the albums in question seem to be tagged correctly, aren't corrupted, and aren't in any weirdly named directories or anything like that.
I've contemplated editing the iTunes Music Library.xml file to try and add them manually but I don't know if it would work (plus the xml is pretty complex). I also looked for a 3rd party app to use instead of iTunes but none will sync with iTouches.
Anyone have a solution for this?

Some audio formats don't sync with an iPod. Make sure all of them are either .AIF .WAV .MP3 .MP4 .ACC and maybe find a way to convert them if they aren't. I hope this helps, somewhat.

  • How do I get song titles after the track has been installed in library. there used to be a get title option but in 11.0.1 I can't find it?

This option used to be available in earlier versions of iTunes but I can't locate it in 11.0.1.
While importing into the library the online link to gracenotes was lost and the track appears as Track 1 etc in the library

You can get the drop down list by either right-clicking on the back/forward buttons, or holding down the left button until the list appears.
If you want the drop-down arrow you can add it with the Back/forward dropmarker add-on - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/backforward-dropmarker

  • Best way to export individual tracks for mixing on other software

I've recorded a song with my band, it has 14 tracks in total.
We have a friend who is a pretty good engineer and I want to export the tracks from GB to give him so he can mix/master.
What is the best way of doing this?
I've done a bit of googling and found two options:
    (1) Find the GB track in the finder and use the 'show package contents' to locate each individual part
    (2) Solo each track and use the GB share function
I have concerns with both options, with (1) not all the tracks begin at the start of the song so I will end up with lots of tracks of random length with no way to sync them properly.
With option (2) I am concerned GB will do it's own mixing and not give me the raw versions.
    Any advice?
Oh, and a quick other question. If I have recorded vocals for verse 1 on track 1 and then the chorus on track 2, I can click and drag the chorus section onto track 1 but click & drag needs a steady hand not to get it slightly out of place. Is there a keyboard shortcut for this?
    Thanks

how i'd do it ... since i'm going with the export route (and in this case i would definitely go that route rather then trying to piece together all the bits and keep them in time), i'd want to start my (continued) project with everything at their best levels possible, i wouldn't want to waste any of my 24 bits
    Thanks for the reply.
On this one issue, however, I would think that raising the volume on GB tracks prior to exporting to another DAW would have no effect on the number of bits used or wasted. The number of bits used would be an issue during the initial recording, and then when creating the eventual stereo mix. But the intermediary stage at which you transfer from GB to another DAW is "bit agnostic." Aside from transferring the files, there's nothing special about if from an audio perspective - increasing volume can't create more "original" information on each track/bit beyond the initial recording. Rather, it's the equivalent of adding a digital volume level increase on a track which you can do at any stage, like after the tracks arrive in their new DAW, with the same effect.
In other words, as I understand it, increasing the levels in GB prior to bringing them into another DAW or after you bring them into another DAW is equivalent as far as the original (or ultimate) meaningful bit information is concerned. Therefore, you might as well provide the tracks in as unadulterated form as possible, and allow the engineer of the subsequent DAW to apply any digital effects, including volume increase, as needed.
at a technical level, that's probably true. however GB does not output garbage, under the hood it's the same engine that logic uses. it may be a consumer level GUI, but the guts are professional level.
    Absolutely!

  • Having trouble with each track being input into the library individually

Old computer was fried, couldn't backwards sync iPod to new computer. Now trying to import CDs into Library and it is adding each track as an item in the Library rather than the whole album or CD. I've tried it twice. This is so aggravating!!!

Not glad to hear that you are having the same issue but I'm glad I'm not crazy and doing something wrong. It seems this version of iTunes was a real stinker.

  • Track List Alphabetizing itself in Library

    Hi,
When I import tracks, I sometimes rename them
When I do this, my iTunes library will alphabetize itself and if I want to burn them from my library I will not know the original order.
If I create a Playlist 1st and import them into that before I change the names there is no problem in the play list but in the Music Library, they will be alphabetized. Is there anyway to keep them in the proper order once I have changed the track names?
    Example:
    1. TRACK 1 (Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band)
    2. TRACK 2 (With A Little Help From My Friends)
    3. TRACK 3 (Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds)
    4. TRACK 4 (Getting Better)
    5. TRACK 5 (Fixing A Hole)
    would be rearranged as follows:
    Fixing A Hole
    Getting Better
Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds
Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
With A Little Help From My Friends
If I wanted to burn the album in its proper order, I would have to find the track listings somewhere and arrange them manually.
Can they be kept in their proper order in the music library after the names have changed?
    Thanks in advance

What's wrong with the names that the artist gave the songs originally?

  • Help with Track / arrange & mixer relationship

    Sorry for a simple(ish) question.
I have LP7, my friend has express (he's coming from a pro tools background, i'm from FCP background)
This is a 2 part question.
First, I have the Mac Pro video logic 101 videos, and have watched them almost through twice. They answer a few questions, but they are not very complete.
    1. We can't figure out the relationship between the tracks, channels and audio/inst tracks.
We are unsure what happens when you make a new track. Sometimes I make a new track, change the name, and another track's name changes. I end up with two tracks the same.
What is the track, channel, instrument relationship?
    2. Why doesn't the track / mix window do the same thing? I hit MUTE, or solo or whatever, on one, and it doesn't show up in the other (same track)
If someone could tell me where to look in the manual, or a video to buy to explain that aspect of LP7, we'd be happy(er)
    Thanks for the help!
    Bryan

The mute button in the arrange mutes that track. It stops the regions on that track being processed, and is not instantaneous, as it frees up resources. (Ie if no regions are active, no CPU is used in processing plugins etc - Logic simply stops processing them)
The mute in the mixer mutes the channel so you can't hear it, but resources are not freed up - any plugins or audio is still being processed by the CPU. Muting is instantaeous.
    So:
    - arrange mute = "stops the stuff on that track being played/processed"
    - mixer mute = "stops that mixer channel being heard"
You should think of arrange mutes as more of an arragement tool, as it helps determine which regions are going to be played, and the mixer mutes as a mixing tool.
Think of the situation where you have 10 different vocal takes recorded to different tracks, all being sent to audio channel 1 where your vocal processing plugins live. Arrange mutes determine which of these 10 takes is active. Muting audio channel 1 in the mixer will mute the vocal, whichever track a given section is coming from.
So, you should be able to see that muting an arrange track is a different function to muting a mixer channel.
    Does that help?

Where do you state that you need to edit them?
    This was my response ....
You can't edit any of these files without a compatible iPad app like Documents to Go (Excel, Word) or Pages (Word files).
You can open and view the files as mail attachments but you will not be able to edit them. Explain exactly what you are doing and maybe you can get meaningful instructions.
Basically I said the same thing as Julian and I thought that maybe if you explained EXACTLY what you were trying to do, it would be helpful.
Sorry for not being a mind reader. Your second post ...
I thought I had already explained, I get excel spreadsheets emailed to me I need to open them, read them, edit them and send them on to another person,
That is not what you asked the first time around.
