Annoying volume icon in the middle of my display.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro S300-S2504. Whenever I touch the volume knob (on the very front middle of the laptop so it gets touched all the time by accident) it puts a large volume icon in the middle of my screen.
I have a co-worker who has the same laptop and his doesn't have this "Feature".
How do I get rid of this thing??

Try a reboot - hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons together for a minimum of 15 seconds.

    Hi Apple Support,
    iOS 7.1.1 (iPhone & iPad)
Every time when you watch a video and changing the volume a big annoying message icon in the middle of the screen show that you change the volume.... Why?
    See example: http://goo.gl/OsPd7U
    Can this be disabled somewhere?
    Best regards
    Manfred

Thank you.  One of the previous answers did the trick.

  • My kid dropped my iPad 2 and the volume control on the side got jammed in and now everytime my ipad is on the volume icon in the middle of the screen will not go away.  I can not move the switch on the side, it is jammed, is there a way to fix it?

My kids dropped my iPad and the volume control on the side got jammed in and it will not move, how can I fix this?  Can it be pulled out to unstuck it.  The glass got chipped right next to it, but it is not that noticible.  Everything else works on the iPad, but the other problem is that I am past my 90 day warrenty and it will cost me $265.00 to have Apple fix it.  Is there anyway I can save my iPad?

Your warranty is actually one year - the 90-days is only for free telephone support - but the warranty would not cover damage due to the iPad being dropped. I doubt there's anything you can do to fix the rocker, so you'll probably need to pay to get the iPad exchanged (by Apple) or repaired (by a third party repair service).
    Regards.

  • My ipad 2 turnes to black screen with the apple icon in the middle, it just hanged and i have to restart it?! so why this is happening ?! is there is an error or something i can do to prevent doing this ?!

my  new ipad 2 turnes to black screen with the apple icon in the middle while using it or if i just left it locked for a while, it just hanged and i have to restart it?! so why this is happening ?! is there is a productio error or something i can do to prevent doing this ?!
Appreciate responding as soon as possible.

No, it's definitely not normal. Your User's Guide recommends a series of troubleshooting steps to go through when your iPad is misbehaving: As you're already in effect doing the first of the main steps, a Restart of your iPad, and that's not curing it, move on to the next .. a Reset.
To do this, press and hold both the Home and the Sleep/Wake buttons for about 10-12 seconds, until the display blanks and the red Power Off slider appears. Continue holding the buttons until the slider disappears, replaced by the black screen and white Apple logo.
This shows your iPad is starting to reboot. Release the buttons and allow the process to continue until the Lock screen appears again, then slide the slider to complete the process.

  • I downloaded an update for iPhoto yesterday. Now, when I try to open iPhoto...I get a gray screen with the "circling" icon in the middle but it doesn't open. All was fine before the download yesterday? Any suggestions, Thanks. Wayne K..

I download a suggested "update" from the App Store for my iPhoto yesterday. Now when I try and open my iPhoto, I get a grey screen with the rotating circle icon in the middle......that just keeps rotating. Ergo, it won't open!!! Before the "download" all was fine in Heaven & Earth....now, I'm a little peeved.
    Anyone have a suggestion?
    Thanks,
    Wayne K.
ps Have a good day, God Bless America ...............and be weary of iPhoto update downloads, very weary.

No need to be wary of iPhoto updates however it is a good idea to follow the instructions when updating. I haven't updated iPhoto from the App Store before however it should not be much different than doing a DVD update. Here are instructions on updating the library:

  • I have the sound effects icon in the middle of my screen, how do I remove it?

I have the sound effects icon in the middle of my screen and I want it to go away! How do I get rid of  it?

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and see if that fixes it.

  • Hello..i have IPhone 4S i did reset to factory settings by fault and till now after a 2 hours there is nothing just a waiting icon in the middle of the screen and none of home or turn off button are response so i do need your help plz

hello..i have IPhone 4S i did reset to factory settings by fault and till now after a 2 hours waiting (as known it takes a 1 to 2 minutes maximum) there is nothing just a blank screen and a running waiting icon in the middle of the screen and none of home or turn off button are responsed so i do need your help plz & thanks in advance..

Try to reset it by holding the power an home buttons at the same time until you see the Apple logo, then release.  If it won't reset, you'll probably have to force it into recovery mode and restore it, as explained here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808.

  • After upgrading my Macbook to Yosemite, the volume icon at the top right is greyed out and sound does not work.

After upgrading my Macbook to Yosemite, the volume icon at the top right is greyed out and sound does not work.

Interesting bug. I'm cautiously optimistic this will get rid of the weekly annoyance. The difference is that I bought my laptop back in Feb 2015, so it came with Yosemite. I think the issue may have appeared soon after an OS update not long after I got the thing, though. I was using a sudo command in the Terminal, but that is obviously not a fix.
I wonder if there is a broken .plist file that may be fixed ...?

  • Icons in the middle of Screen

I was in the Apple store and notice that the Macs had linked icons in the middle of the screen. For example they had an icon, when clicked it open Safari and loaded the Apple Store. I thought that would be a good idea for my son profile, so he can click one icon and it would take him to Cartoon Network etc... Is this a OS X thing or a thrid party program?
    Thanks
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

There have been a few questions about the same feature, but the consensus is that it is something only on Apple Store computers and not available to the rest of the world.
To achieve something close (the icon link for your son) you could always drag the address from the address bar in your browser out to the Desktop to place a link to the site.. Then, you can change the icon to something a bit more recognizable following the instructions here.

  • STUCK on white screen with battery icon in the middle with RED LIGHT

I have BB curve 8900 and my BB shutdown by itself yesterday and it wont start on again !
so i charged it the red LED start to show and white screen with battery icon in the middle it looks like empty battery, and stuck on it and sometimes it keeps spinning over and over again until it bcome black screen then it starts the same begining !
I tried the hard boot by taking the battery out for sometime and reinstalled it but it didn't work. I even try putting a different battery (friends battery) but still no joy..
and the main catch is if i try taking out the battery and plug the charger or connects it to the laptop it does the same thing without even any battery in it.
So is it really a Battery problem or the OS problem.?? (If its a OS problem, can u install it myself at home.?
    Waiting for the reply
    Thanks

if it does not boot then..??
Well, you need to do as suggested first.
Then, if not: If your BlackBerry stays powered off with a black screen, follow the instructions below. The only indication of life might be the blinking red LED light in the top corner. Nothing seems to wake it up and Desktop Manager doesn't recognize any device is connected.
    1) Make sure you have Blackberry Desktop Manager installed.
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/desktop/
    2) On your PC, go to Start > Run and copy and paste the following line exactly (meaning with the quotation marks):
    "c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader\loader.exe" /nojvm
    3) The Application Loader Wizard will appear -- click "Next."
    4) In the "Connection:" drop-down menu, you should see "USB-PIN: UNKNOWN". Click the "Next" button.
    5) You should then see a list of applications ready to be installed for your Blackberry. Hit Next and Finish and you are well on your way to getting your Blackberry back to life. Congrats! Just don't disconnect anything and let the lengthy process finish completely.
NOTE: If you do not see a list of applications mentioned in step 5 and instead see the message "The Blackberry Desktop Software does not have Blackberry Device Software for the device that you have connected to the computer. Contact your wireless service provider or system administrator," then you must download Blackberry's Operating System for your carrier and device.
    http://www.blackberryfaq.com/index.php/BlackBerry_Operating_System_Downloads
Just select the appropriate carrier and network type, select your Blackberry model from the list and download the latest version. Install this download and follow the above steps again and you should be on the right path.

  • Help!! Can't get past this folder icon in the middle of my screen

I received an external CD driver in the mail and wanted to make sure it would plug in to my laptop, so, with the computer off and unplugged, I plugged in the USB and then unplugged it. Then, I plugged my iBook in, and powered it on.
Right after I booted my computer up, the screen came on and a little folder appeared right in the middle of the screen. The folder is small, and is alternately flashing a question mark ? and the mac logo of the little square face. The mouse wont work, pressing enter doesn't do anything.
I just got this laptop from a friend, I used the computer at a cafe with no problems, went online, downloaded open office. That was 3 days ago, and since then hasn't been touched... Until today. Now it's doing this.
School starts Monday and this has to be fixed!! I know nothing about Macs, someone help?

    None of the white iBook G3 series would be running OS 8.6 or earlier;
the first one (dual USB, 500MHz 12" LCD, etc) shipped with OS 9.1
in May 2001 and it could also run OS X.
The older iBook G3 in colors other than white, (blueberry, tangerine,
indigo, lime, graphite) were in two series, the earlier one of those
shipped with OS 8.6; in July 1999. The second of the series, had Fire-
Wire ports and a faster CPU. It shipped with OS 9.0.4. With adequate
hardware upgrade to support OS X, the oldest colors iBook G3s can
run, respective of age, oldest model: OS X 10.3.9 or maybe 10.4.
For some better ideas on what may actually help the computer you
have, information on what it is would be of great consequence. If
you have a correct bootable installer system CD (or DVD if a later
iBook with combo or superdrive installed) then you may be able to
start the computer from the Mac OS install disc and run Disk Utility
or the equivalent, to try and repair the disk, then choose a startup
volume on the computer's hard disk drive, and restart the iBook.
Since you indicate you had tried to install a freeware Office-like app
into the computer, it would not be running a pre-OS X system.
There may be some minor damages or corruption to the data files
on the computer's hard disk drive, so a disk utility that could try
and fix them may be a solution; so hopefully you have a correct
version Mac OS system install disc and can see if inserting that
into the iBook's optical drive and try restarting while holding the
C key down, this may let you boot from the Installer; in the menu
header of the OS (X is presumed) when you see a Finder-like
    menu bar, there are choices and options in drop-down menus;
one of them is to run Disk Utility.
However, not knowing what the computer model really is or
the OS version running; or if you have any correct discs for it
to try & fix this problem, about the best you may be able to do
is use some keyboard commands and try to get the computer
to look for any available startup system.

    http://davespicks.com/writing/programming/mackeys.html
If the computer does have a bootable OS 8.6/9.2 system
and also an OS X, you may be able to find & boot from one.

    Without more information, there is no really simple answer;
as most tools you may need to get past the problem would
have to be present for you to continue. What kinds of OS
discs and software did you get with the computer? What
model is it? (What does it look like and what part number or
model number appears on the side of the iBook's case?)

Go to (Windows) Start > Settings > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices.
See if you can find a box there to check for placing the icon in the taskbar/system tray. Also see if there is a "Mute" and be sure it is unchecked. Look at your volume setting; usually a slider. Explore the tabs on that panel and look at the settings. Don't change settings if you are unsure.

  • Why is there a microphone icon in the middle of my screen?

Just recently, a large microphone image has appeared in the middle of my Mac mini screen (see partial screen shot). It stays in front of all open windows, and while transparent, is very disruptive. What is this and how do I remove it?

Well.... F11 removes it!! But, it unfortunately also makes all open windows slide off the screen, clearing my desktop. If I click on any icon in the dock to bring it back, so returns the microphone. (sigh) Also, when I open sys pref / sound - I don't see any option to remove that icon. Nor does anything I try work.
ps - Thanks for your reply BDAqua!
