Annoying window behaviour when dragging

Often when dragging a window aside it jumps and stack on top of the most left top window (or so). It seems this happens when dragging a window on top of another window's title but not always. When it does happen it can be reproduced several times in a row but sometimes it doesn't happen at all, hence this behavior is inconsistent. It is also application independent.
Is it possible to get rid of this behaviour?

At least on Windows this depends on the OS setting, and not a JVM setting (at least I'm not aware of a setting which controls window dragging, I only know of one which affects window resizing)

  • Annoying layer "ghost" when dragging a layer

What is the purpose of this annoying new layer ghost that appears when you drag a layer in Photoshop CS5? It's very irritating, since it doesn't seem to serve an useful purpose, and it makes it difficult to align layers with precise pixel borders. Can I turn it off?

Yes here a a lot of bad visual decisions been made at Apple  within Cocoa. Personally, in most respects things visually are a move backwards, from Carbon. Screen refresh also seems to be poorer, and more clunky.
My personal least favorite visual feature: In Exposé, when you use Show Windows - this ridiculous, thick blue bar with nasty beveled edges appears.  Looks like the result of a high school "Program Your Own Operating system" project.

  • New window opens when dragging image to desktop

When I drag an image from a browser (say Chrome) onto the desktop, an all new desktop finder window opens. How do I turn this off, I can't seem to find any setting for this. Am I just not seeing it, or is there no setting to turn this off.
    Thanks for any help?

Control (right) - click on the image and use the
either of the two Save Image options.  I have all downloads go to a Scan Me folder hence the Save Image to "Scan Me".  That doesn't open another Finder window.

  • MacBook Air "jagged" windows when dragging

This is difficult to describe: when I drag any open window across the desk top, it doesn't move smoothly. There's a minute "lag" which results in the frame of the window becoming slightly jagged. This corrects itself almost immediately, but it is quite noticeable as it makes its way up or down the frame of the window (it depends in which direction the window is being dragged). Not a big deal, but a bit disconcerting on a new machine. The Air is brand new, fully specced.
Does anyone else have this happening?

Thanks for your comment - I've now noticed that this behaviour occurs only when the Air is in "mirror" mode (I have an external Apple monitor), and not when mirroring is turned off. So that seems to rule out a video card problem on the Air?
The "jaggedness" is only a matter of a pixel or two, and it does correct itself once the window has been moved to a new position on the desktop.
PS In mirror mode, the behaviour is seen only on the Air's screen - on the external, it doesn't occur.

  • Image resizes when dragged to new window

All my images change size when I move them to a new window. I am making numerous graphics that need to be exact for collage like purposes; I will work them in their own window and will drag the finished images to a separate window to print(graphics are small, and I want to fill a print page with as many as possible) My issue is that whenever I drag the images to the new window they re size, usually larger. The new window is the same size as old. This is also happening when I print but image will be smaller than what is seen in image size dialog box. Please advise. Thank you

I assume that you are working with Elements v.3 or v.4.
In order to avoid a major size disparity as you describe in making a collage, have the resolution of the canvas and the picture files the same. For example, go to File>New>Blank file and establish width, height, and resolution. Click ok. For printing, it is desirable to have resolution 240-300px/in.
Next set the resolution of the picture files to a similar value. You may have to resample in order to achieve this. Minor degrees of size adjustment in the collage can be achieved via the handles in the move tool. Note that each picture file will be on its own layer, allowing for this type of adjustment readily.
Feel free to repost if you have additional problems as you go on with your project.

  • I want to dump iPhoto pix to an SD card for a photo frame. In the event of duplicate numbers, I renumber in the Info window yet when the photo is dragged to the card, FINDER declares there is a duplicate. Why?

I want to dump iPhoto pix to an SD card for a photo frame. In the event of duplicate numbers, I renumber in the Info window yet when the photo is dragged to the card, FINDER declares there is a duplicate. How can I change the photo number where FINDER allows doesn't see a duplicate?

Because adding a Title in iPhoto is not the same as renaming a file, plus, using drag and drop means you have no opportunity to rename the file.
However, if you use File -> Export you'll see the Filename options in the Export window - one of them is to use the Title as Filename.

  • Arbitrary behaviour when performing simple tasks.

Hi, does it happened to anyone that when clicking somewhere in Firefox (it happened the same in Chromium, but in Firefox was more notable) instead of do nothing or do what it has to do (i.e. enter a forum thread) it opens a new tab, or new tabs, opens a new direction in the current tab?
Or for example when you just select some text it pastes that text in a new window and starts a Google search?
So my question is... WTF is happening?! Is this some sort of bug? Have anyone come across something similar? I'm getting crazy, it doesn't happen always but I kind of angry about it. Is there any known fix?
Right now I was using my touchpad and happened several times. I'm in a Dell Inspiron 1520, NVIDIA graphics card and Gnome 2.30 as desktop environment, everything updated.
Compiz effects are enabled: Gnome compatibility, desktop cube, rotate cube, window decoration, wobbly windows, text, dbus, resize info, workarounds, application switcher, move window, resize window, ring switcher and scale.
Thanks for reading and for your time.
EDIT: Doesn't happen with browsers only, I've just selected something in Firefox I was to paste in GEdit and just a left click to select the line where I wanted to paste it pasted it in the end of the line. What's this behaviour about?!

Hi, I've getting exactly this behaviour too for the last couple of days and I agree that it's very annoying. I'm using KDE and have disabled anything which might fire either a right or middle click from the touchpad section of system settings, but it still happens.
I think that this could be due to one of two things:
    1) the touchpad is firing actual middle clicks,  or
    2) the touchpad is firing right clicks, which when simultaneous with my left click causes a simulated middle click.
I generally use the latter behaviour to generate actual desired middle clicks, so don't want to disable it all together. Note that this only happens for me when I actually click at all (with the left button) and something misinterprets it as a middle click instead.
In case it helps, I have this in my /etc/hal/fdi/policy/11-x11-synaptics.fdi (mainly so that I can access the thing using the shared memory functionality required, and set some sensible defaults).

  • [SOLVED] GNOME 3.8 annoying window resize problem

    Hello all fellow early-adopters :-)
A very annoying quirk I've noticed, moving from GNOME 3.6 to 3.8, is that it no longer remembers, nor retains, the size/positions I set for many of my application windows. For example, my mail client (Evolution) is sized to fill most of my screen (centrally), with Empathy and Skype as long narrow windows on both sides - giving me a nice, broad "communications" overview on that particular desktop (with dev tools etc open on others).
On 3.6, this layout was retained during my session, as well as next time I started these apps up.
In GNOME 3.8, not only does it insist that these windows are always started as small little bunched-up windows that I need to resize, but every time a window displays a notification/warning (message in internal yellow bar inside the window - such as loss of internet connection, mail retrieval failure etc) it resizes the windows spontaneously to a stupid, small size that overlays the other windows. This is driving me crazy!
Where can I learn a bit more about how window sizing / positioning works in GNOME 3.8, or is it finally time to switch to awesome wm? I want to love GNOME 3.8, I really do. It's so slick, but so... unpolished.
I want to dig in an assist with problems like these, but I need some pointers to some background material first to understand the problem. Is it the window manager? Is it the app?
** UPDATE: Doing a full system upgrade, as of May 18, 2013, has resolved this annoying problem. My windows now stay where they belong, and start with the same size they were closed with. GNOME is now pleasant to use again :-)

I really like GNOME 3.x though (and would like to understand the windowing behaviour), but if the annoying quirks are insurmountable, I will happily switch.
Man I love GNOME 3.x. I admire the courage they had to change, basically, everything, and I find myself more productive with my GNOME 3 Arch box than with my good ol' Slackware KDE 4 box. I just hate those bugs - for example I filed a task in their bugtracker for this window resize problem I have with gedit. If it's a love/hate relationship, I think it's marriage ^_^
With the 3.8 upgrade, deadbeef was having a similar problem with window size/position. I just recompiled it against the latest GTK+3 package upgrade (that came after the 'big upgrade' here on Arch) and it was fixed. But not with gedit

Man I really hope this gets fixed soon, because aside from this one incredibly annoying issue I am loving gnome 3.8.
I get the feeling gnome badly needs more beta testers, sizable regressions like this in "stable" releases happen way too often sad.
I get the exact same feeling. Well bugs exist everywhere, there's no denying. But I think it would be wiser to 'alternate' the nature of each major stable release - one focusing on new features and one focusing on fixing bugs. For example if the only new features in GNOME 3.10 were the AppsFolder full implementation and the introduction of gnome-calendar, and the rest of the development cicle being devoted to fix bugs, I'd be more than happy.
Like Fedora and Ubuntu, the fixed 6-month release cycle colaborates with the bugs. They don't do like Debian or Slackware which are released 'when they are ready'.
EDIT: fout (yet) another bug. At least with facebook chat (haven't tested with other telepathy plugins) the buddy tray icon appear duplicate. Anybody with the same issue?

  • Blurred preview image when dragging playhead in Animation Timeline

    Hi,
when I move the playhead (of the Animation Timeline) by hand back and forth, the image get's blurred untill I stop dragging. This is really annoying since I need to draw and animate some small shapes in pixel perfect manner and can't see the difference between the frames because of the blurred image.
It is not blurred when I use the "Go to Next Frame" buttons in the timeline window, but this is cumbersome as I have to quickly compare frames by going back and forth.
I understand that PS probably gives me a compressed version of the images so it can actually play the animation fast, but I am talking about a hand full of frames in low resolution (1000x1000) on a Macbook Pro Retina with 16 GB RAM!
My Performance setting are all up (90% RAM allocated to PS, enough free space on my SSD Hard Drive). I also tried different settings for the History and Cache.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!
    Marek

OK, I found out the reason I wasn't hearing the sound when dragging the playhead was due to the fact that in the properties for the sound I had the Sync set
to Event, but I needed to set it to Stream.  Then it works fine!

  • Containing Folder Opens When Dragging Photos?

When I drag photos onto my desktop or into iMessage, a folder will open showing the contents of the folder the said photo is in. (Does that make sense?) Anyways, it's never done this before, and it's getting really annoying. Especially when I have to use multiple photos.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening or how to turn it off? Thanks in advanced.
    -Angelique

We may have a terminology issue here
The window on the left the the source pane - the source pane contains folder if they exist and albums and keepsakes (especial kinds of albums)
Photos go into albums - albums may then be placed in folders - the photos for keepsakes are in albums - not in folders
To add photos to a keepsake albums drag them from an event in the library on the right to the keepsake album on the left

  • Show Windows contents while dragging disabled after standby

I have noticed that the option "Show windows contents while dragging" gets disabled after I close the lid to put the machine into standby (hibernation disabled) and then open it again. Does anyone know what to do in order do disable that annoying feature?

The way to solve this problem, is demonstrated by the following code:
    JDesktopPane desktopPane = new JDesktopPane();
desktopPane.putClientProperty("JDesktopPane.dragMode", "outline");This will then set all of the internal frames to outline mode when the frames are dragged instead of sluggishly drawing the components with the internal frames when dragged.
    Hope this helps

  • Why, since CS6 does DW now use ABSOLUTE image paths when dragging images into Design View from a folder in Finder?!

While I am grateful the previous issue I had with not being able to drag files into design view at all (in CC and CC2014) was resolved.
Guys (Adobe), seriously, if you're going to change the functioning of something that used to work just fine, at least supply a way for a user to revert to the old way... I absolutely loathe that I need a legacy version of DW to continue with my current workflow. Please put it back to the way it was, or at least allow a user to chose between the two behaviours.
If there is a way to do this, without using the Site Manager (which still doesn't work from Finder even with relative to document selected), I would appreciate any guidance.
As for using the Site Manager (before some smart guy suggests that I just use that) I do not wish to navigate to and create up to 20 "sites" a week and wait for DW to cache them all, when I am already in the folder with the image assets in Finder.
Also before someone pipes up and says: "You shouldn't be diving sites in design view anyway", I don't... I develop many, many newsletters every week and the folder structure is such that navigation to the actual image folder using the Site Manager would be painful at best.
I don't really like having to and replace all instances of "file:///Users/me/Work/company/Mailers/Year/wk14/mailer/dev/img/prod5.jpg". It is horrendously wasteful, time-wise.
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies

Sorry Murray, DW used to have an idea, my point is that since CS6 its developed a case of Amnesia.
The "elements" are in the "root" folder as follows:
    newslettername.htm
    img
         imagename.jpg
So the relative path would be <img src"img/imagename.jpg" />
    However since the change: <img src"file:///Users/me/work/Company/year/week/campaign/img/imagename.jpg" />
Which is completely useless and needs to be corrected before I upload the html anywhere.
As for using the site directory, I did answer that in my initial post. I use a laptop, I really don't want a site manager taking half my screen just so I can see the folder structure and navigate with that, especially since I am already at the files I need in Finder.
Again, this is something that used to work just fine in previous iterations of DW, so I don't believe Adobe is incapable of fixing it nor am I being unreasonable asking for a choice for those that may find the local absolute paths useful in some way. All I want is to be able to chose not to use absolute paths when dragging from Finder.

    Hi, try this...
If nothing is showing in the Toolbar at top, click the little gray oval at top right.
Right click or Control+click on the Toolbar, choose Customize Toolbar, drag the Send button to the Toolbar.

  • Return to initial position when dragging scroll bar

There is a function in Windows that when using mouse cursor to drag the scroll bar, moving the cursor away from the scroll bar makes the bar go back to its initial position. Does OS X have a similar function? It is useful when looking figures during reading a large document.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

What you can try if the above doesn't work, is deleting the scroll bar from your Data List, and then dropping it back in from the Library. The act of re-adding the scrollbar may get you the desired behavior.
If that doesn't work, you will probably need to post your project so we can take a look.
