Annoyingly slow?

Hi all, I've just started using Kuler, it looks really cool.
But is it me or is it eally annoyingly slow? Every color I pick, it
needs to update and when I press download it also takes seconds
before it starts. How on earth am I gonna like this Kuler thing? Am
I alone in this, is it just incidental today or...?
Thanks

Hi folks,

  • Macbook pro running annoyingly slow on OSX Lion

    hi,
i'm having a bit of trouble running osx Lion, ever since i've installed my macbook pro (2.8 Ghz Core i7 with 8 Gb of ram) has started stuttering. running absolutly nothing but one single application (being lightroom, quicktime, itunes or any other app) every few seconds my mac tends to stop for up to a minute to do ...something... it shows the beachball icon and the resumes normal duty just to continue on it's annoying course several seconds later.
i have tried resseting my SMC, i have reinstalled lion with a complete clean install (with and without installing snow leopard bfore installing) and manually replacing all backups from time machine instead of restoring. a reboot doesnt seem to do anything except for take several minutes more than i'm used to.
i have tried booting in safe mode using the shift key.
so. looking at my activity monitor, the cpu usage doesn't seem to jump up at all when a "stutter" occurs. i have however noticed a VM size of near 200 GB after reboot (windows are not reopened on boot) wich seems ...excessive
so i'm at a loss.. lion has some pretty nice features, but at this rate i will be reinstalling my previous version of OSX.
is there anyone that might be able to help me out here?
    thanks in advance,
    sincerly
    Paul Thijssen

    Hi,
I also have this problem. My MacBook pro was brand new in august, but i bought it just a few days before the release of lion so i installed lion after i bought it. Only used it 1 day with whatever was on it before and seemed to work fine.
Ive been too busy to do anything about it but im very annoyed by how slow it is so i have to do something now, what can I do? can someone help with some specific steps? someone posted something about changing the network settings but I wasnt sure if that applied in europe (spain)... any guideance in non-technical terms please?
    THANK YOUUU

  • Annoying slow iMac boot-up.

I bought a new entry model 2012 iMac 21.5" when it was available to order at the end of November. It came in December and booted up extremely fast (Around 15-20 seconds to get to the log in screen). But now, only about a month and a half later, it takes around 30-40 seconds to boot up and load up the log in screen.
This is extremely annoying, because I still have around 940GB memory left in my hard-drive, and the only things I have installed are: Skype, Extra GarageBand Loops, 5 ordinary apps from Mac-app store (like wallpapers, PDF converter etc.) and a game that takes up about 20GB space.
I have no software or apps set to run when I log in, and I only have 2 accounts made on this Mac - one of them has only been logged in on once (it's a family members).
This boot-up time is extremely frustrating because I payed a lot of money for this machine and it comes with really good specs considering all I do is browse the internet and word process stuff. How can I speed it up? It takes the same time as my 2007 Compaq laptop to boot up which is embarrasing considering this is a new Mac that is only used for lightweight stuff.
The computer runs fine once logged on, everything is smooth and fast, log in literally takes a second, but the boot up time takes really long and I want to reduce it. Can anyone give me some advice on what to do? Cheers.

I would guess that Skype may be a culprit but it could be any of the things you have installed. But I must say, 30 sec to boot isn't a long boot time. My SSD imac takes 20sec to open to a full screen (I don't have any log in requirement set). You could remove the things you have installed to do your own trouble shooting. The additional drive space taken up by the installed apps isn't the issue but it could be code that they are running at boot that is the issue. If this was making me crazy the first thing I'd do is remove Skype and see if it's the culprit. Then I'd remove ALL the new installations and see if that makes any difference. If it does, bring half of them back and beging to see what is causing the problem. Another option is to simply not shut it down.

  • Start up annoyingly slow

When I start iTunes, it starts and adds a panel to program panel. But when I click the panel, the iTunes window doesn't appear. This lasts for awfully long time, maybe minutes. That gets to nerves, I click the panel many times but nothing happens. Then I surf the net for a while, and iTunes pops up finally. I tried to shut down Genious, but it didn't help.

I am having the exactly the same problem with iTunes 9. Sometimes it starts up and is immediately accessible. Other times it partially starts up and sits there frozen so that I think it has crashed, but if I wait long enough it finally comes alive.
I recently moved all my music to a network disk so I thought this was causing my problems, but maybe not.

  • Brand new 2011 macbook pro (preinstalled lion osx) is too slow! Is there anyway to role back to previous OS if it came pre-installed?

I purchased new macbook pro 15" with quad core 2.2 ghz intel i7, 8gb of ram.  I swear to god it is slower than my previous 2008 macbook running leopard OS.  I use heavy programs pretty often, adobe CS5 and 3D modeling and some rendering on the mac side and and a bit of 3D work with fusion on windows.  I was really expecting a performance boost with the new computer, but Lion is annoyingly slow.  Even if I am not using any of the heavy stuff and just browsing on the internet, it seems noticeably slower than the 2008 macbook. Typing lags sometimes, genie effect and opening effect lags. The iOS type features are also sluggish.  I am about ready to start working again on my old macbook on leopard.  I haven't had any issues with the machine completely freezing (though I have had to force quit apps a few times).  It is definitely a usable machine, but for the price and newness I expect the performance to be better than the 2008 macbook.  From what I have read on the forums, I am blaming the buggy Lion OS for my troubles.  I figured the OS might still have some bugs as it was brand new, but this is more than I bargained for.
Does anyone know if it is possible to role back to Snow Leopard? I have heard it can't be done if the computer came pre-installed with Lion OS, but surely some clever people have figured a way...

Thanks for your help, I appreciate it.
I am not using Filevault, and the closest genius bar is 4 hours away, so I am trying to figure out a solution via internet.   I will check out the Fusion update, though I expect that to be slow (that is the price you pay for running windows on a mac!)
I am surprised you havent noticed the resume/restore windows, docs, and apps feature (for both subsequent openings of program and reboot of system- new to Lion OS) I use the term feature lightly as they didnt seem to work properly initially, like they had cached older stuff than when I actually quit an app or shut down.  After the first couple of times of the computer stalling trying to reopen an application with a heavy document or restarting and trying to open EVERY program I had used the day before, I disabled the features.  To disable required a bit of a hack with Terminal.
    to disable on restart:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/08/25/disable-reopen-windows-when-logging-back-in-in-ma c-os-x-lion-completely/
    to disable resuming applications:
    http://osxdaily.com/2011/07/18/disable-mac-os-x-lion-resume-window-restore/
--only that doesn't really work (which if you scroll through the comments below you will see what people post about it) I had to expose the hidden library, delete some stuff there, and run some stuff in terminal to get this feature totally disabled, blah blah blah.
These seem like good ideas, but definitely need some tweaking to work properly.  I like the iOS features in Mission Control, but the lagging animations are absolutely unacceptable. Even dragging an icon across starts out jerky and sluggish. I never noticed any issue with the OS animations on the 2008 Macbook running Leopard.
Anyway, there are known compatibility issues with Lion and Adobe Creative Suite.  Adobe CS5 products are what I use most often, so I would like to role back to Snow leopard, though it is reported that Apple has made that impossible on the new machines that shipped with Lion.

  • Since i updated the wifi on iMac internet runs slow

Bought imac 27 inch 2.7ghz with 4gb ram last week - everything was running fine - super fast - i havent done anything of note on the computer - installed photoshop, trial version of word etc etc.
I updated a few things yesterday - namely the wifi update to version 1?
my safari is now annoyingly slow - also anything else i do needing internet connection is slow
my iphone, ipad and the laptop is all working superfast on internet - but pages on this imac now take a while to load (by a while i mean 20-30 secs) it wasnt like this before and as ive only just bought it its frustrating me to the point i want to take it back - i can follow instructions etc etc to solve this but im at a loss as its my first mac and was loving the experience but this mac is mainly for internet and want to know whats wrong with it.
any help would be greatly appreciated before i return it to shop or tell apple to come and sort it.

Boot from your recovery partition (command-R at startup) and select Get Help Online. Safari will launch. Is it slow?

  • MacBook (late 2008) is really slow

    Hi folks,
so here's the situation. My gf's late 2008 MacBook ist annoyingly slow. I have 8 tabs open in Safari and when going back and forth between those tabs it gives me the spinning beachball for like 30 seconds. Sometimes it even reloads the whole tab which takes even more time. The whole time I hear the hdd working hard, it's clicking all the time though there are no unsual sounds that would indicate harddrive failure.
I checked disk utility it says S.M.A.R.T. is verified. I even used another program (don't remember the name right now) to get a more detailed description of the hdd status, progam says everything's fine.
I checked the memory both with the tools provided by Apple and memtest, both say everything is great.
So I asked some Apple Service person what the problem might be, he said if SMART's okay than it's probably the hdd-cable - repair would cost me (or my girlfriend in this case) 60 bucks. Before I shell out the cash I want to double check and see if I can repair the computer myself. My plan is to connect the hdd via usb to see if it's still that slow, but of course the speed of usb itself is limited, so I'm not sure if this is a good idea.
btw. the MacBook is running OS X Lion, has 2GB of RAM. And I repaired permissions, took me couple of hours but it's fixed now.
    Thanks for the help

Okay, I forgot two important things:
The MacBook was already slow before I upgraded it to Lion. I hoped an update from SL to Lion would fix the problems but it didn't (didn't make it worse though)
The MB once fell of the couch. After that the display backlighting behaved strange, when closing the lid it would switch on again (determined by the illuminated logo) for a couple of seconds than turn off again - this happened while the rest of the computer was on its way to sleep mode. Funny thing is this strange behaviour was fixed after I upgraded to Lion (and I have no clue why, because to me this sounds like a hardware problem).

  • Brand new macbook very very slow -- etrecheck help!

My brand new macbook pro is just annoyingly slow. lots of spinning rainbow wheel, eternally bouncing icons, uselessly slow search thing. i ran an etrecheck but have no idea what it means. i'm reluctant to go to the genius bar. this is a replacement macbook after the last one i bought required 5 trips to apple store in a month (maybe 12 hours total?) for a variety of problems. i just want this one to work at least half as well as the August 2008 macbook that it replaced... any help would be so appreciated.

  • All of a sudden SUPER SLOW!!!  Why?

For no apparent reason my Powerbook G4 1.5ghz with 1.5gb RAM just started doing EVERYTHING super slow. Annoyingly slow. Clicking on the bookmarks menu in Safari took 10 seconds for the color wheel to stop spinning and to display the small to medium sized list of book marks. I just restarted and zapped the PRAM and tried to log in, and typing in my password took at least 5 seconds to acknowledge that I had even typed in the first 2 characters of my password.
    WHAT IS GOING ON?
I zapped the PRAM, did a disk utility verify and it was good. I checked the activity monitor and nothing out of the ordinary...
The only thing I've done differently is downloaded and installed Google Earth, which, if that is the source, I'd gladly remove it. Is there a way to uninstall a program so there are no lingering files?
I have the higher RPM drive, 80gb and it's 1.5gb away from full, so I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
Please help... This $2600 computer is far too young to be replaced.
    Scott

    Hi Scott --
Sorry to hear about that. Seems from a MacFixIt article linked to on Applejack's home page (written byu Dan FDrakes) that Applejack is a pretty powerful program, that has both serious pros and cons: http://www.macfixit.com/article.php?story=2005041817191411
I found a MacFixIt discussion thread that appears to outline the steps needed to delete Applejack from one's computer -- they reference the readme that accompanies Applejack.
Of course, these steps may not be of use to you can't start your machine properly. ;-(
Maybe you could try starting your machine in Safe Mode: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107392 ; http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393 Then, perhaps you'd be able to delete Applejack and restart your machine properly.
All of which, if successful, will bring you back to where you started, which (imo) is when you need to begin freeing up some hard drive space.
Well, hopefully Apple's phone support will help you recover your system. I would, of course, try all of their suggestions first.
Please post back how everything turns out.
    Good luck.

  • [SOLVED] Terminal is slow to refresh.

    Hi There Folks,
After the last update my terminal(s) have become annoyingly slow. The first thing I noticed was that lines don't scroll smoothly when you scroll across pages in emacs (no window) or vim--roughly a second to bring in new lines. I thought that it was a terminal issue, but the behavior is present in urxvt, terminator, gnome-terminal, and lxterminal. I don't appear to be having any other graphical issues when watching videos, or desktop effects, it just the terminals.
Additionally, when the screen is full, commands like ls, etc. respond rather slow as well. Roughly the same 1 second delay.
I have seen a few posts which describe similar issues with the nvidia drivers, and one that references the intel driver, but I want to see if anyone has any ideas before I try to downgrade my driver.
    Thanks for any advice.

Holy sh*t batman! Switch from terminus to any other monospace font in the terminal and man doesn't the scrolling fly!! Working like it is supposed to. Let's call this solved.
    Thanks everyone.
    I wouldn't call changing fonts to a non-bitmap font a 'solution', rather it's a workaround.
I just changed from xf86-video-intel-uxa to xf86-video-intel-sna and it *is* actually solved, though.
Yeah, you are right, it was a workaround. Anyway, I also changed from xf86-video-intel-uxa to xf86-video-intel-sna, switched the font back to terminus and everything seems to be working as it should. Now can I call it solved ;-) ? Thanks!!

  • Why is iTunes running slow

I'm using iTunes 10.7 (avoiding iTunes 11 because you can't have multiple playlists open at the same time with it) on my MacBook Pro.  I have a large library on an external Thunderbolt drive.  I'm finding iTunes running annoyingly slow quite.  I've eliminated all but one or two smart playlists, but have more a couple of hundred regular playlists.  Looking for suggestions on how to speed up iTunes.

No it's not your computer. The newest version of itunes is basically unusable. It will freeze, not only the program itself, but it will slow your whole computer to a crawl, or more usually, to a completely frozen state. I've done some time checks:
After clicking on a song, it took over 40 seconds before the song actually played.
After sliding the volume slider to the left to descrease volume, it took over 90 seconds for the change to actually be implemented.
I haven't listend to music for months on my computer because of this stupid memory hog of a program. Never had a problem until some of the more recent updates.
Apparently itunes philosophy is "If it ain't broke, break it."

  • Mail slow on brand new Macbook Air w/ Mountain Lion

    Hi all,
I just bought a MacBook Air last month with OSX 10.8.2 Mountain Lion. But the Mail application is annoyingly slow.
I import form a gmail account. But shouldn't be a problem in itself, should it?
I've seen other discussions, but they all involve problems after upgrading to Moutain Lion. I just got it out of the box and already it's slow.
    Anyone?
    Thanks a lot!

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
    Quit Mail.
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu. A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Relaunch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you'll have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.

  • S400u unbearably slow - Please help!

    Hi all,
I've purchased this ultrabook in Brazil, in September/13.
For the last few months it's been getting annoyingly slow, to the point that I'm getting really frustrated.
    The main sympthoms are:
    1) The computer gets really (really!) slow, particularly after returning from hibernation or sleep mode
    2) Sometimes it freezes at the welcome screen; I use image based access security, where you have to click the same spot 3 times in order to login. After I do the 3 clicks it takes about 20 seconds to start processing the info.
    3) The touchpad pointer freezes. The buttons usually still work, however the pointer itself stays frozen for up to a minute.
    4) Programs get really slow and unresponsive. Initially I thought it was a problem with them, but after a while all of them started to show these problems!
    5) The start menu gets really slow - If I want to look for a program or file by typing it's name at the start menu, it takes a long time for the characters to even show up at the search box and, when they do, it takes even longer for the program or file to show up below it.
I've tried a number of actions in order to solve this issue, but the problem seems to grow at a fast pace.
Here's what I've done so far:
    1) Updated drivers (with the drivers available at this website!)
    2) Installed all Windows updates available (I run Windows 8.1)
    3) Made registry modifications - to increase speed at certain tasks
    4) After action 1 didn't work, I downloaded a software called Driver Boost (from iobit), to update the drivers again.
    5) Installed a ram booster software
    6) Used CCleaner to clean up the registry files
    7) Changed the priority and affinity settings of certain tasks (lowered the priority for non-important tasks and increased for the important ones) in order to be able to dedicate more of the i5 processor's energy to what I use most.
    8) Made sure the computer is free of virus and spyware.
    9) Changed the power settings to max performance.
Every time I make one of these changes the computer gets a little faster for a little while, but then it gets worse.
Please assist, I use this computer to work and this is really frustrating, specially since it's suposed to be an ULTRAbook.

    hi megllama
upgrading to ilife'06 might not be a bad idea but my question to you is what was the size of your hard drive before? you say that you have 11 gigs left. according to apple you require 20% of harddrive to be free to allow the system to work quickly and smoothly. do you clean all your caches and cookies? freeing up space is probably what you need. download 'onyx' a maintenance application. use it to clear out caches, cookies etc. lastly, provided that you can spare the expense a memory upgrade wouldn't hurt. more RAM is a big help.

  • Slow iTouch after 2.0 update

Has anyone else's iTouch become slow after installing the 2.0 update? I updated mine a couple of days ago and I noticed today that using the apps on my iTouch has become annoyingly slow. iCal/Notes/Contacts/basically everything loads so much slower... For example, when I open Contacts, I can see my contacts, but I can't scroll down right away--compared to how easy that was to do before the update. My iCal also takes several long seconds before I can see the actual calendar.
Has Apple issued any solution to this problem?

too many contacts? that is BS... I dont even have 50 and it takes for ever, you know, I have always used Microsoft and for a time now I've been thinking to move all my equipment to Apple, is looks better and stronger and apparently fails a lot less, but the **** when it fails no body's got answers or solutions. They've decided to ignore some things and don't even bother to tell you why (like the copy paste issue) I dont think this is good service nor very good publicity. I agree with what most people may think -Apple is a lot better that everyone else at what they do- true enough but just being the best in a lot of mediocres does not do and certainly does not fit the image Apple seems to want to build. so Apple, at least provide an explanation (not deep buried in the site please, easy to access)
