Anomalous ATI 9600 has an "extra display" shown in the monitor arrangement.

This is absolutely mind boggling. I have 2 monitors connected to my g4 mdd, and 2 video cards:
AGP slot: ATI 9600 256mb - 2 DVI outs - 1 connected to ACER AL2016 1680x1050
PCI slot ATI Rage 128 16MB - 1 VGA out connected to ACER AL2016 1680x1050
So I have a total of 3 monitor outputs, but only 2 of them actually have something connected to them. (this is because one of the acers is an earlier model that only has VGA input). When I go to the arrange monitors control panel, it shows the two Acers (1680x1050) and ANOTHER MONITOR which looks like it's about 800x600. The computer sees this monitor as being part of the desktop, so when I open apps with several windows sometimes a window will open on this "phantom" display and I have to try and find it and drag it to one of my "real" monitors.
This problem is present when booting from OSX or OS9, so I don't think it's a software issue. Is there a firmware update I need to run on this card or something?

Hi-
Glad you got rid of the card.
The 9600 is a fair card. That's all. It is the slowest GPU (from ATI) that still supports Core Image.
Other than that, for performance, it isn't a performance card.
The Radeon 9800 family, or a flashed X800 would really perk up graphics.
A Geforce 6800 GT or Ultra, or the Geforce 7800GS are also top performing cards.
The three Geforce cards would all be flashed cards.
Don't put too much emphasis on XBench graphics scores. Although XBench is a good, all around benchmarking tool, graphics is not it's strong point.
Gaming is always the best measure of graphics performance.
In Panther, OpenGL is still young, about v1.5. In Tiger, Open GL v2.0 is supported, and in Leopard, OpenGL v2.1 is 100% and v3.0 is supported as far as the card can support it.
The 9600 should support OpenGL 100% up to v2.1, so Panther is a limiting factor, simply due to the older design.
The Geforce cards have incredible OpenGL support, as compared to the 9600 and 9800. My tests with the 9800 Pro and the 6800GT show the GT to have twice the OpenGl power of the 9800 Pro in v2.0.

  • How can I change the Video Display Mode when the Monitor displays UNSUPPORTED MODE?

While setting up my new monitor, I changed the computer Video Display mode to 120 Hz by accident.  Now I can't see a thing on the monitor other than the words UNSUPPORTED MODE.
My system is a newer HP Pavilion p7-1423W running Windows 8.1 with Intel i5-2320 3ghz
I have tried the Startup mode by tapping ESC on powerup but the startup options don't help.  And the F11 option on the menu just makes the Startup screen disapear and returns the monitor to UNSUPPORTED MODE.  Tapping F8 doen't work and tapping F12 just puts me into the bios menus which don't help.
How can I put the integrated Video Card back to a supported video mode when I can't see the screen?

Try the shift key + F8. If you can get in- doing a System Restore to a day before you messed up the setting should work without a need for Safe Mode.

  • ATI 9600 Pro Mac & PC Ed. - Which is the Dual Link DVI Port?

I just bought an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro Mac & PC edition Video Card:
    http://www.ati.com/products/radeon9600/radeon9600propcmac/index.html
This card features 2 DVI ports - one of them dual link.
Maybe I'm just blind, but I've been looking around everywhere trying to figure out which DVI port is the dual link. Does anyone know?
    Any help will be appreciated.
    PowerMac G5 dual 1.8, TiBook 550, Compaq V2000 1.68 Turion   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   G5-160+120gb,1.5gb,4xSD | PBook-20gb,768mb,Combo | V2000-80,512,8xDL+Lightscribe

There is a small "1" stamped in the sheet metal next to the single link DVI connector, and a small "2" next to the dual link DVI connector. The single link is closer to the motherboard.
There should be a PDF Users Guide on the Mac CD that came with the board. Page 17 shows the connectors.

  • Macbook pro thunderbolt cable to imac in target display. The imac also has a thunderbolt display. Will the macbook control all three monitors

I have a macbook retina and a imac 2012. I am looking at getting a thunderbolt display. I have currently my macbook retina connected to my imac and using target display when i need the other display. I am thinking of getting another display to use on my imac for when i need more room on my imac. My question is what will happen when i switch my imac in target display for my macbook. the ask a question person said my macbook will take control of all three but this other website said the thunderbolt would turn into the primary for my imac and the imac would be my secondary for my macbook. I was wondering if anyone knows for sure or can try it and tell me.

Assuming you have a 27-inch iMac, you use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable. If it happens to be a 21-inch model, no combination of display cables or adaptors will work.

You can move the label and the line for the signature into a frame and place the frame at the end of your report. Then set the "Print Object On" property for the frame to Last Page.

  • Female Mini Display Port Adapter - Connect Monitor to Non Mini Display Port

Anyone know of a Female Mini Display Port Adapter, so I can connect the 24 LED Cinema Display to a computer that has DVI connector? Or hook the monitor up to a KVM, so I can use the monitor with multiple computers?
I know Apple doesn't make these, but does a third party?
Monoline appears to be coming out with adapters to hook a mini display port computer to DVI and HDMI, but not a mini display port monitor to DVI or HDMI.

'Mini Display port' is just a smaller version of display port, which is a slightly different version of HMDI.
No. You may be thinking of Mini DVI. Mini DisplayPort is a smaller verion of DisplayPort, which is different from DVI and HDMI.
    <http://www.displayport.org/white-papers/whitepapers/DPTech_OverviewEnglish.pdf>
HDMI, display port, mini display port AND DVI are all capable of being 'converted' from one to another.
It is easy to make a Mini DisplayPort (card) to DVI (display) adapter because a DisplayPort card can be set to generate DVI signals. (Dual-link DVI is a bit more complicated since the adapter must sepatate the clock and data.). A DVI card cannot generate DisplayPort signals, so an adapter for a DisplayPort display with a DVI card would be a lot more complicated.
The ONLY thing that you would LOSE in a DVI to display port conversion is an audio signal.
HDMI is DVI video plus digital audio. DisplayPort does not use DVI video.
The point is they are all interchangeable, signal wise.
No. A DisplayPort card can generate DVI signals when a DuisplayPort to DVI adapter is detected, but a DVI cards cannot generate DiusolayPort signals.
But why should Apple make a cheap DVI to female display port when they can make more money on overpriced graphics card upgrades?
They can't make a cheap adapter, but they could have added a DVI port to the display.

  • Extra-ordinary depreciation is not shown on the Asset History Sheet

    Hi,
When doing a disposal of assets via transaction ABAVN, the extra-ordinary depreciation is not shown on the asset history sheet in the "Deprec for the year" column.
How can I show it on the asset history sheet?
    Thank you for your feedback.
    Kind regards,
    Linda

    Hi,
of course it can. The Asset History sheet output can be defined absolute flexible. Good source of information of how to define asset history sheet versions can be found in the SDN Wiki articles [Asset History Sheet (Detail) |https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPFI/AssetHistorySheet%28Detail%29] and [Asset History Sheet |https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/ERPFI/AssetHistory+Sheet].
Feel free to create your own history sheet versions according to your needs. But you should avoid to change standard delivered history sheet versions.

My soldering skills are, sadly, poor.
And it only dawned on me a couple days ago that because this iMac does
not have a Core 2 Duo processor, it will not be able to enter the

PS Are manuals for this model available? I have a copy of the Peachpit

  • Hissing Sound with Extra Display

    Hello
I'm hearing a hiss through my speakers (connected through a firewire Apogee Duet) when I connect an extra display to the DVI port. This goes away when I turn off Airport.
I'm currently using a Mac Cinema Display 24" with a Gefen adaptor mini display port to DVI.
However, I had this same problem with a Samsung display.
    Thanks for your help!

this is the one I have at home
    http://www.monstercable.com/productdisplay.asp?pin=592
but it can be any other piece of hardware that has noise filter . the idea is this since sound is built of waves the initial wave that we start off with being the sine wave of the AC plays a great role on the clarity of our final sound . And with normal speakers this is not really audible but with high end equipment the interference from other stuff around such as light dimmers and electrical appliances can very well be heard . that's where the noise filter comes in ..

  • ATI 9600 XT and Dell 3007WFPHC

Hi, My company just bought us all new 30" Dell monitors. Great! I cannot get more than 1200x800 out of mine. I have updated the firmware and drivers on the ATI 9600XT in my G5. Looks like my Mac is recognizing the monitor correctly. Is the ATI not capable of handling a higher resolution? Do I need a different cable? Do I need a different card?

The ATi 9600XT does not have the dual-link DVI port that's needed to drive displays of that size. The 9600XT supports displays of up to 1920 x 1200 resolution, but the 30" monitor has a resolution of 2560 x 1600.
Your only option is a new card if you want to use this display. You'd need the ATi 9650, the X800/X850, or nVidia's 6800GT/Ultra. All of these cards are very difficult to find, and they must be Mac specific cards in order to work.

  • Finder has suddenly restricted displaying "Preview" and "More info" info.

    Sup Mac Users,
Well, a small problem has embezzled itself upon my Macintosh recently. When shuffling through my finder window and eventually ending up, say on a picture, the dimensions of the picture are not listed anymore in the preview info. As well, when previewing a movie in the finder, a Quicktime movie, the duration of the movie is no longer displayed?
This info has just disappeared somehow. And when clicking on "more info..." under the previewed file in the finder (or when right-clicking the file anywhere on my computer), which brings up a separate window displaying much descriptive info., the pic dimensions are missing, and with movies, the duration is missing too. It was listed under "size" when getting info for both pics and movies.
_What happened to this info???_ This info has been +incredibly useful+ info for just a quick glance at a file... but for some reason, when a pic or a movie is on my desktop, this exact info, duration or dimensions, is shown under the pic or movie on my desktop, and nothing else (but "show item info" is activated for the desktop).
    help please,
    Message was edited by: patzivota

Hi patzivota, could just be a simple corruption in your "com.apple.finder.plist" file. You can drag this to the desktop and restart (you'll find it in Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences) to see if this will solve your problem.
If after restart all appears well just trash the old plist file.

  • Extra Display with ARD

When I login to one of my clients (Powerbook G4) via ARD, it has two displays which show in ARD. They are not evident when the machine is being used as a standalone. This has the effect of hiding windows etc. I have partly solved it from a user perspective by mirroring but want to get rid of the extra display. Am trying to reset NVRAM etc, but need to do it from afar.
    Any other thoughts.
    Thanks

I just tried this with my 12" G4 Powerbook.
I set up a second display, and then controlled it using Remote Desktop on my iMac. While ARD was active, I removed the second display and noticed that the application windows I had on the second display did not move to the main display, and I could still move my mouse to the second monitor. The only way I could see the "phantom" display was via Screen Sharing or ARD.
Luckily, a simple reboot with the display disconnected seems to have resolved the issue (no resetting of NVRAM is necessary).
Going the other direction (ie, removing a display from the imac, which is running SnowLeopard), seemed to work fine. After I removed the second display the windows moved to the main display and ARD displayed the correct window.
    Hope this helps,
    -Tim

  • Dark Video with ATI 9600 XT (need new card?)

    Hi all,
I watch alot of quicktimes on my Mac (write music to picture).
In general, the movies are very dark compared to view them on
any of the PCs or my Macbook for that matter. Specifically,
everything is very Red and Dark. I have tried many adjustments,
looked at different movies etc. I really thought is was the Viewsonic
monitors until today when I replaced them with HP w2207(s)
Same thing. The monitors are brighter and it is slightly improved but
it is not the issue. So, I suspect the video card has an issue.
This is a PPC G5 2.5 dual with the ATI 9600 XT 128vram
All updates on QT. Today I tried a commercial DVD which ran in DVD
player, same thing. Can anyone shed any light on this? I am considering
buying the ATI 9800 PRO 256 from B&H but I don't want to keep
throwing money at it if there is some other issue I am missing.
The HP monitors are amazing BTW. 22"@ $250 each from Tigerdirect but I
probably would not have bought them at this time if I had not
convinced myself the Viewsonics were the issue....KWIM?
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Forums!
There is currently only one BEST solution for your situation available for a Mac G5 2.0 AGP. It is the The RADEON X800 XT Mac Edition with ADC and DVI Dual Link connectors. As seen here:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/item/ATI%20Technologies/100435317/
This gives you a Dual Link DVI connector for the 30" ACD.
The remaining ADC port can be converted to DVI output for your 20" LCD with this:
Belkin F2E9142 Apple Monitor Adapter (ADC to DVI)
    As seen here:
