Anomalous .png file created on publish

Dear all.
I have an annoying but harmless issue. Using CP5.5 I publish my product to a SCORM 1.2 compiant .zip for uploading to our LMS.
When it creates the file structure for the .zip CP creates a small .png file called test42.png which consists of a letter 'E' in a small transparent background.
When the files are put into the .zip file by CP at the conclusion of the publish process, this file is left out of the zip folder as it isn't being used.
My question...
What circumstances will CP create an image to be used outside the product? It seems to be a bit like when you import flv/fl4 video files, they are copied into the upload zip folder.
It's not causing me any issues but it is annoying (and I NEED to get to the bottom of it!)
Looking forward to the replies.

If you find out why this is happening then I'd love to hear about it. I have seen it happen from time to time as well, but I haven't been able to figure out why this weird png file is being created. Deleting the file has no impact on the project so why it has to be created in the first place is beyond me..

  • Cannot import .png file created in Illustrator CS5 to FCP7

FCP gives me a "file errror: unknown file" message and will not let me import the .png
    any help is much appreciated.

Also, TARGAs work fine from Photoshop CS5 - they keep the Alpha channel for transparency. I think going through Photoshop (Illustrator --> Photoshop --> FCP) is best, I have not tried getting stuff from Illustrator directly to Final Cut. Remember Final Cut is pixel-based like Photoshop, while Illustrator is vector-based. You have to 'convert' vectors to pixels and Photoshop seems to be better than Illustrator... and stick to Final Cut 7 or earlier for layered support, as reelstuff1 says
    Best of luck!

  • PNG files no longer display correctly...PLEASE HELP!

Hi there, I just recently upgraded to Final Cut Studio 2. I have a project that I was working on prior to the upgrade and now making some changes in DVD Studio Pro 4.2.0. In my menus I am using a motion menu as the background and a PNG file created in Photoshop with transparent layers set as a Drop Zone so that the menu background can still be seen.
These PNG files are no longer displaying correctly. It's really hard to explain except to say that anything that was transparent is now displaying a solid white. I have trashed the prefs and restarted with no improvement.
Does anyone have any ideas? I was just going to make a small change for the client and now the whole project is not right.
    Many thanks, Simon.

    Hi:
In DVDSP preferences, under Menu encoding settings change it from hardware based to software based or vice versa depending on what do you have now selected. Build again and check if it's solved.
    Hope that helps !

  • How do I save a PNG file with an alpha channel in Photoshop CS5?

I have a PNG file created in Photoshop and I need to save it with an alpha channel for web purposes. I tried 'Save for Web & Devices' and selecting the Transparent box. Then, after saving, when I select 'get info' for the file it says there is no alpha channel. I'm stumped I can't seem to create an alpha channel from within Photoshop while I'm editing. Help!

If you save as a 24bit png with transparent checked photoshop will save the png with transparent background (ie alpha transparency).  The png will appear transparent in a web browser.

  • Use of .png files in Photoshop

I use Fireworks to create graphics using layers with each element on its own layer.
When I send them to some companies, they state that a .png file cannot be edited by photoshop, and that the file has only one layer.
Can anyone answer a few questions about .png and Photoshop?
    1. Can Photoshop read and edit .png files?
    If so,
              a. Must the layers be unlocked for them to be read as individual layers?
              b. When they have been edited in Photoshop, can they still have seperate layers that can be read in Fireworks?
    All help would be appreciated.

    This is very interesting.
My .png files created by Fireworks always contain layers (at least Fireworks describes them as layers) unless I delberately select a group of layers and "flatten" them, in which case they combine into one layer.
At this link is a ,png file created in fireworks containg three layers and saved in .png format.
At this link is the same file saved as a .psd file by Fireworks.
I cannot open the .psd file, as I cannot afford to purchase Photoshop.
If I try to save as a .tiff file, I am warned that all layers and vectors will be turned into a single bitmap.
I believe that this was not always the case, but could be wrong.
Perhaps one of you could try to open these files using Photoshop and tell me if they contain any layers, and if so are they editable?
There are no options given in Fireworks when saving in the .psd format with regard to transparency or otherwise. (Fireworks CS4).

  • Can't create a file, Can't Publish to iWeb

When I try to publish some changes to my site, I get a Publish Error that says: Can’t create the file “droppedImage.png.” The disk may be damaged or full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges.
My iDisk doesn't seem otherwise to be damaged and it is less than half full.
Has anyone seen this and can help me with it?
    Thanks

Copy your domain.sites2 file to the desktop from the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Control-click on it and select Show Package contents from the contextual menu. Search that package for the droppedImage.png file and copy it to the desktop. Open it with Preview. Do a Save as, select PNG and save as a new file - droppedImage2.png.
Rename that file back to droppedImage.png and move it back into the domain.sites2 package replacing the original png file.
Rename the original domain.sites2 file to domain-original.sites2 and move the edited package from the desktop into the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. Open iWeb and publish to a folder to test. If it publishes OK to a folder publish to your .Mac account. If it doesn't go as hoped you still have the original domain file to fall back on.

  • How to create a swatch library from multiple png files?

    Illustrator CC
I am having a difficult time trying to create a new swatch libray of patterns from multiple png files. The way I am doing this is very slow and repetitive and seems silly for a tool as advanced as the latest CC suite including illustrator.
What it seems I must do is open all the png files in Illustrator, creating multiple workspaces, drag one png file into the swatch window, then save that window as a library, close the existing window to reveal the next png file, open the user library I just created, drag the next image into the currently active swatch window, then drag the previous swatch/s from the user library into the current active swatch window, resave and replace the user defined swatch library (now with two images in there)fromthe updated current active swatch panel/window, close the existing workspace to reveal the next image file, and then repeat the process again, slowly building the user defined swatch library up by adding one image at a time and then adding back into the Swatch panel the previously built up library of swatches again one at at time.  (you can select all from the existing  user defined library and drag over into swatch panel, but this creates at least one  duplicate on each cycle for as soon as you click on the first swatch in the library, it adds itto the current swatch panel and then when you select all swatches to drag across it includes the first swatch and copies it again)
This is a very slow process to build up a swatch library. For some reason you cannot drag swatches directly into  the user defined library you have created, only into the active swatch window for each workspace. I searched the web and forums  for answers but could find none. There must be an easier way,  just can't find it.
Ideally, the best option would be a swatch window  option that allows the import directly from a list of selected files in the finder.
    Any ideas out there?

    Monika,
Thank you for responding, however I am not exactly clear on what you mean by "libraries are plain AI files". For example, I cannot find a file with the same name as my user defined library name that I have created. I can find the preinstalled swatches listed under Adobe Application Support... Library... Swatches, but a user defined folder is not present and the library sets that I have already created are not visible. I have tried searcing my Mac for a (name).ase file and still no luck (at least for the name I was looking for). I can open the user defined library from the Swatch library icon on the bottom left of the Swatch panel, but when I open this I cannot drag and drop add new swatches directly to this library. As stated above, I have to add each pattern, one at at time to the normal swatch panel, then add back the previous ones I have saved from the user defined library to the swatch panel and then save threm all as an updated user defined library. Thus by repeating this process, it builds up the user defined library one at a time.
I am using Illustrator CC if this makes a difference.

  • Exporting Layers to PNG files using each layer name to create the file name??

    Hi All
I'm trying to sort the following problem and was hoping somebody here could help with a scripting solution - my knowledge extends as far as actions unfortunately - which I don't think is appropriate for this.
I've created a User interface in Illustrator with many layers and have exported this as a psd with layers.
Basically what i'm wanting to do is export every layer as a png file while using the layer name to create the file name - each layer needs to be clipped.
There is no transparency in the png.
I've run the export to files script - but the names are too long and there is no anti aliasing.
I've tried running a script from Illustrator - but it doesn't see sub layers - and doesn't name the layers.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanking you in advance
    regards

    Hi,
We just released this tool: FERRY (http://ferry.thedamarmada.com). It does exactly what you want and a little bit more.
    I think it's worth it a try.
It comes with a free demo that will export 5 layers.
Take a look and let us know if it's what you need.
    It could be easily tweaked.

  • I created a publisher file, saved it as a pdf. The problem is I created it landscape and it only shows portrait cutting the sides off my document.

I created a publisher file, saved it as a pdf. The problem is I created it landscape and it only shows portrait cutting the sides off my document.

Sounds as if you used Microsoft software to make a PDF. If so, and you didn't use Adobe Acrobat ($$), then you need to get help with Publisher -- Adobe Reader only shows what you make.

  • Batch Actions - Export to PNG does not create PNG files

I am testing Illustator CS4 to see if my department will upgrade to CS4 from CS2.  We do a lot of batch conversion of .eps graphics and have never had a problem in previous versions of Illustrator including CS2.
I have created a new Set and Action to Export all .eps files  to .png files from a specific folder.  All the settings appear to be correct and match the settings from CS2.  However, when I run a the bacth on CS4, it appears to go through the motions, the .eps files show the current modified date, but no PNG files are created.  I think this may be a bug, and if this doesn't work, do I try CS3? or stay on CS2 which we rather not do?

I think you will be happier with CS4 and have a suggestion use Fireworks to batch your files to png.

  • I created a photo book in Photoshop elements 11 that contains png files with the invisible backgrounds.  When I export the book to a jpg or a pdf, the png files appear with white backgrounds.

I created a photo book in Photoshop elements 11 that contains png files with the invisible backgrounds.  When I export the book to a jpg or a pdf, the png files appear with white backgrounds.  Any suggestions on how to fix this?

jpg and pdf formats don't support transparency. You need to use a format such as tif, png or psd that does.

  • Create .png file with transparency?

I'd like to create an image on the server side, and save it as a .png file, and set the transparency. Is there some sample code or an article that would tell me how to get started? Thanks.

    com.sun.media.jai.codec.PNGEncodeParam.Palette
    * void setPaletteTransparency(byte[] alpha)
sets the alpha values associated with each palette entry. The alpha parameter should have as many entries as there are RGB triples in the palette.
    * byte[] getPaletteTransparency()
returns the alpha values associated with each palette entry.
         API: com.sun.media.jai.codec.PNGEncodeParam.Gray
    * void setTransparentGray(int transparentGray)
sets the gray value to be used to denote transparency. Setting this attribute will cause the alpha channel of the input image to be ignored.
    * int getTransparentGray()
returns the gray value to be used to denote transparency.
         API: com.sun.media.jai.codec.PNGEncodeParam.RGB
    * void setTransparentRGB(int[] transparentRGB)
sets the RGB value to be used to denote transparency. Setting this attribute will cause the alpha channel of the input image to be ignored.
    * int[] getTransparentRGB()
returns the RGB value to be used to denote transparency.

  • Photoshop can't create PNG files

    Hey guys.
It's all in the title; my Photoshop refuses to create / save files as PNG. The error I get is the following:
However, I can open PNG files, and then save them. But not create the file in the first place. My information:
    MacBook Pro 13' 2011
4GB RAM (2084MB dedicated to Photoshop, as I saw in the preferences)
    200GB free space
Some Intel graphics card; around 350MB of VRAM or something like that.
    Photoshop CS5 Extended, v12.0.4 x64
This problem has only started recently; it worked fine a week ago. I tried reinstall Photoshop twice; no luck.
I'm a web designer, so the use of PNGs is pretty much constant, let alone the fact that I'd rather not have a buggy software in the first place.
Hope you guys will be able to help me sort this out. I've tried resetting the preferences; no progress there, and now all my settings are gone...
    Thanks!
Edit: Just noticed, a lot of the filters give me the same error!

Hello! Did you change something recently? More Ram, new software?
I'd also try to recreate the preferences.
