Anomaly with CRS Installation

I installed the CRS clusterware (11.1.0.6) on RHEL, but I noticed the $ORA_CRS_HOME/install/root111.sh script is missing from the installation. This script is used when upgrading to 11.1.0.7. Any reason why it's missing?
Thanks,
mike

When you patched Oracle Clusterware (11.1.0.7), you 'll see it.
$ORA_CRS_HOME/install/root111.sh

    Hi,
for my practice i am trying to install oracle 10gR2 on RHEL5-64bit OS in my laptop.
during my crs installation i have struckup with the below error while i am executing root.sh in node1.

As per metalink i have find that this problem is fixed with Patch:4679769
    # Patch Installation Instructions:
    # To apply the patch, unzip the PSE container file:
    # p4679769_10201_LINUX.zip
    # Set your current directory to the directory where the patch
    # is located:
    # % cd 4679769
    # Copy the clsfmt.bin binary to the $ORACLE_HOME/bin directory where
    # clsfmt is being run:
    # % cp $ORACLE_HOME/bin/clsfmt.bin $ORACLE_HOME/bin/clsfmt.bin.bak
    # % cp clsfmt.bin $ORACLE_HOME/bin/clsfmt.bin
    # Ensure permissions on the clsfmt.bin binary are correct:
    # % chmod 755 $ORACLE_HOME/bin/clsfmt.bin
    3. Run the root.sh script and proceed with the installation.
**My question is still i am not install Database ..only i ma trying to install crs but in this readme .txt we need to replace the clsfmt.bin file in ORACLE_HOME/bin.**
**but i have not bin directory under in ORACLE_HOME.please clear my doupt to apply this patch...**
    Regards,
    Mugunth

Also you clusterware installation installs to an ORACLE_HOME.
Oracle does only make a differentiation, if it has to be clear, that you got a clusterware home and a database home.
Normally if a patch is referring to $ORACLE_HOME (and the patch can be used for clusterware & database), it just means the installation directory of the oracle software installed.

No errors in the local Oracle log-file.
This error occurs with repeated attempts (both under Windows 2000 and under Windows server 2003).
    Environment:
Two Dell-PCs with in each case two 100 MBit/s Ethernet-LAN cards which one is connected public network, other is connected internal network (crossover cable).
OS is installed clean, not contain previous oracle.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Volker

    try this:
" If OracleCMService9i or the OracleService<SID> fails to start check that the interconnect is using a hub or switch of some type. In many cases, use of a crossover cable can lead to hangs because when there is loss of electrical connectivity to a NIC, it is sometimes disabled on systems running Windows NT/2000. This can also lead to an increase in time that it takes to initialize the card on a reboot. This depends on the HW platform, but in general, Oracle recommends always using a switch or hub for the interconnect, so that some type of connectivity is maintained with the Private NIC. Note: You may also be able to avoid this by disabling Media Sense in Registry, but a switch is preferred. See MS Article#Q239924 for details on disabling media sense.: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q239924 This applies to all Oracle versions."

  • VIPCA and CRS-0184: Cannot communicate with CRS daemon

I have some strange issue during Clusterware installation. I've installed software on 2 nodes, and have ran root.sh on both. On second node I've had problem with interfaces but it came through after using oifcfg for both public and private interface. Silent vipca executed by root.sh failed, but as it is said in docs it's ok. I need to run vipca on second node manually. But when I'm running it I'm receiving CRS-0184 Cannot communicate with CRS daemon. Daemons are running, there's no error running crs_start -all. I don't have any idea what can I do now.

  • CRS installation

My Cluster Ready Services 10.1 (CRS) installation ran into some problem.
Following are the pre-installation and installation steps which i followed.
    1. The system setup involved 2 identical nodes with Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4 OS.
    2. 2 static Public IP's for the 2 nodes
    3. 2 private IP's which were created using network connections option and can be pinged.(1st Node Private IP 10.10.10.2 2nd Node Private IP 10.10.10.3)
    4. Entry of the private IP's can also be found in the host file.
    5. Both the nodes are connected to a external SCSI hard disk. The Skuzzy hard disk is not formated. Before installing CRS logical partitions where made on the Skuzzy hard disk for OCR,Voting disk and ASM.
    6. While installing CRS on one of the nodes in the Network Usage Page one interface was selected as Private and the other as public.
    7. The Do not format any logical drives was selected.
    8. Finally the Logical partitions made on the SCSI hard disk were assigned to the OCR and voting disk.
After that the installation went without any problems till it reached 98%.The installation was stuck on 98% for almost 30 minutes.Sensing problem i opened the installation log file and scrolled down to the last few entries which said that the files could not be written on the node as it is accessed by some other program. So i had to abort the installation.
Could anyone tell me if i have skipped some steps or need to add any step to make my CRS installation a success.
    Thanking you in Anticipation,
    Regards,
    Salil

    Hi !
    Greetings ! ! !
We have planned Oracle10g RAC using ASM on SAN Storage usix AIX 5.3 . i have defined the following for it :
    1) Defined one public IP , Interconnect IP and VIP for each of the node (there are 2 nodes)
    2) created ocr and voting disks on raw paritions
    3) created oracle id and required groups. Also enabled passwordless ssh and rsh between the nodes
    4) Now when i the crs installation, the setup comes to "Specify Cluster Configuration" Page
Here, as i understand , i need the entries for all my nodes which are participating in my cluster. but, i do not get any entries wat so ever. During my earlier installations, i used to get these entries.
Now i am wondering whether i have missed any file where in i need to put in some enties...
    Any Help Would be apprecitated

    Hi,
since I have seen this issue a couple of times without having a general solution, please, let us know whether or not you plan to use HACMP.
IF you want to use HACMP under Oracle Clusterware, please, let us know the exact version.
IF you want to use the Oracle only stack, I suspect that the machine you are working one was once configured using HACMP and this installation is still there or has not been removed entirely. In either case, it might interfere with the Clusterware installation.
Please, check with your system admin and let us know. Thanks.

  • Problem with Windows installation with bootcamp (won't start up)

Hi ! I'm trying to install Windows on my Mac mini for the few programs I can't use on mac. When I restart with bootcamp installation assistant, nothing happens. The blue LED is lit, showing that the computer is on, but the screen doesn't recognize any signal and stays black. For info, it's plugged using Apple's mini DVI to VGA adapter. I don't know how to get this installation to work...

    Hi Gn0m:
I do not use Bootcamp, so I cannot help you myself. However, you might get some feedback by posting in the Bootcamp forum as well as here:

Has anybody had the following error while trying to download iTunes 10.5? There is a problem with Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run.

Go to "control panel" then "add or remove programs".  Highlight "Apple software update"  Choose "change" click "Repair"  This should do the trick.  Then download and install iTunes 10.5 again.

Firstly, are you installing iTunes for the first time or are you updating your current version of iTunes?
If you're installing iTunes for the first time have you tried redownloading the installer package? Perhaps the file you downloaded originally is corrupted...

If you've tried that, then try installing iTunes as your computer's administrator. To do this right-click the install package and choose "Run as administrator".
If you're updating iTunes to the most recent version try repairing the Apple Software Update program on your computer. It's under the add/remove programs.
    1. Open the control panel
    2. Open Add/Remove programs (called "Programs and Features" in Windows 7)
    3. Navigate to "Apple Software Update" in the list and click on it
    4. Click on "Change" then select "Repair" (or just select the repair option in Windows 7)
Once you repair this, try running iTunes and the update again.
    Fingers crossed!
