Anonymous calls, Unknown Callers and 10 number limit on call blocking feature

I have FIOS Digital Voice. I hope that someone can give me information to help me out - because like many others here, right now I am regretting having this and have it unplugged more than plugged in - for a service I am paying for.
My number is unlisted.
In my account I have it checked to reject anonymous calls.  However, I am still getting calls that are "unknown callers" and "unavailable" numbers. So, if I have it set to reject these calls why am I still receiving them.
Also, why is there such a low limit of adding blocked phone numbers to  your account? It is almost like a part-time weekly job to rotate through all the numbers adding new ones, deleting old ones - and they are able to do this much easier, quicker, and they are getting paid, while I am the one paying for this service - which isn't working.
Can anyone let me know why the unknown callers are still getting through and if there is a way to add more than 10 numbers to the blocked list?
As it is, my home phone is unplugged because it has become a useless payment unless this can be addressed.
Thanks
BTW - Are the web/tech guys aware that when you are signed into your account, if you click on "support" from the top menu for "phone", it takes you to a completely different area and asks you to sign in again - but if you click on the "support from the left menu for "phone" it takes you where you need to go. But the website is a whole other can of worms.

This might help answer your questions.

  • Adding caller with name and number from call list to the contact list only inserts the number and not the name

I recently bought a BlackBerry Z10 and moved my cell service to Rogers to take advantage of the name display service offered by Rogers (Fido also offers this service).
Due to the number of calls that I receive from first time clients, I wanted the name display service to help me know who was calling. Evidently it is impossible to add clients to my contact list before they call me so I'm constantly seeing numbers that have no name to help me decide if I want to answer the call.
When I try to add a caller from my call list to my contact list, only the number gets inserted in the new contact. The name needs to be entered manually.
I understand and realize that not all call display formats are the same and that it's virtually impossible to parse the first and last names from the name portion of the caller id.
However, I would like to see BlackBerry add the functionality to insert the name portion of the call entry from the caller list to a "Nickname" entry in the contact list just like it adds the number to a "Home", "Mobile", or "Work" entry in the contact list.
If a user doesn't have a name display service, there would be no change to how their contacts are added because there is no name variable to copy over.
Can someone from BlackBerry please let me know if this feature can be added to BB10 and when it can be added? For me it's an obvious feature that should just work.
I am really enjoying my Z10 but I'm feeling let down that something so logical and helpful is not supported out of the box.
    Regards,
    Marc

    Hey ViciousFerret,
It appears that you are not aware of the fact that both Rogers and Fido offer name AND number display service (although the name display feature is an add-on service) and have been offering it for many years (since 2006). Here is a link to the name display service description of each provider...
    http://www.fido.ca/web/content/manageyourcalls/calldisplay&lang=en
    http://www.rogers.com/business/on/en/smallbusiness/products/wireless/addons/valuepacks/
As you can see from the link below, Rogers and Fido have been offering this service since 2006.
    http://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20060914005951/en/Teams-HP-Rogers-Wireless-Fido-Succeed-North
My BlackBerry Z10 shows both the name and number when someone calls (and the caller is not in my contact list).
All I would like is for the Z10 (and Q10) to support the addition of the name and number from the caller list to my contact list without me having to type the name. As I mentioned in my original post, to avoid the OS having to parse the first name and last name from the name portion of the caller list entry the name could simply be added to the contact list as a "Nickname". If your provider only has number display, nothing would have to be copied from the name variable in the caller list to the contact list.
I find it difficult to believe that BlackBerry would not be aware of this name display service since it's been around since 2006 with both Rogers and Fido.
I hope I have clarified the reasons why I would like to have this feature added to BB10 and how it's surprising that this simple feature is not already a part of the BB10 OS.
Either way, I don't think this is a difficult feature for the BlackBerry team to add. They're just copying a 2nd variable from the caller list to the contact list.
I'm surprised that Rogers hasn't asked BlackBerry to add this feature to their phones. I think it would be a popular feature for those who receive a high number of calls from first time callers.
How can I get this feature request to BlackBerry for their consideration?
    Cheers,
    Marc

  • I bought my iPhone 4s in the Uk and then brought to Cyprus where I live. I used Siri to call my husband 2 days ago without problem but now when I try to use Siri it won't call any local Cypriot number but will call my Uk contacts. Help please

I bought my iPhone 4s in the Uk and then brought to Cyprus where I live. I used Siri to call my husband 2 days ago without problem but now when I try to use Siri it won't call any local Cypriot number but will call my Uk contacts. I can call the same numbers manually so it's not my network. Any help would be appreciated.

This sounds like an international issue? Although I can not see why? I brought my phone in Australia and operating it in Indonesia, I have the same issues.... Otherwise Siri works fine, even texting (SMS) to local numbers siri works well, but dialing local number it just wont work...! I will try using my Australian SIM card and see if that is the reason.. I tried changing the number in the contacts and took out the international prefix, I turned the international assist on and off still nothing.. How frustrating. I called apple, the technican had know idea and we to his supervisor, had to wait fro 40 miuntes and then I hung up..
    PLEASE HELP..!

  • HT201210 when I want to make a call show me the call back page and i cant make call

when I want to make a call show me the call back page and i cant make call

You helped me a lot, man!
I've been having the same problem for a long time ever since I changed to a new phone provider with a new sim which works with other phone except my iPhone 4.  I just wouldn't make call but can send SMS and receive calls.  Now, when I turned off 'call waiting' I could make phone calls.  Thanks a million again!
P.S. When I turn on 'call waiting' again I could make call without problem any more.  What a heck!

  • Who called me? And how do I call them back?

I have a simple issue, but in my attempt to run before I was fully walking I missed a step and fell.
I created a dialog which has functionality I'll need elsewhere in my app, so I stripped all AS from the dialog component and placed it in a class outside of the default package. I now need to be able to update things on the component from within the class, what is the best approach to this? How can I decouple the design from the functionality?
I can add event listeners in the component to listen for events generated by the class, but how would I do something like update a progress bar on a form?
I guess the outerim question is: how does the class know who instantiated it?
    Thanks for any help,
    Paul

    Hi,
You can always pass an instance to a property of a class.
Suppose you have a class MyClass with a public property 'owner', then within a component you could do something like:
    public var classInst:MyClass;
    private function buttonClickOrSomething():void
         classInst = new MyClass();
         classInst.owner = this;
         classInst.someMethod();
Off course, smart use of event listeners and event dispatching is always a better approach.
The general idea of decoupling design from functionality is to use some sort of mvc pattern (model, view, controller).
The model, which in most cases is a singleton class, keeps track of just data (like data coming from a server) and updates properties. It also dispatches events. These models don't know anything about components in your application.
Now, the views, which are custom components use two main things to update themselves:
    - Event listeners
    - Data binding
A very simple example would be that you have a singelton class called GlobalData which has a property userName.
Now, if you have a custom component with a label configured like this:
    <mx:Label text="{GlobalData.getInstance().userName}"/>
then the label will be updated automatically when the userName property changes. Another component could change the userName property of GlobalData and all 'binded' components will update automatically!
    Hope this helps

  • Hi really need help, on my iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 if I call someone and put them on speaker before the calls connected, the call will fail, and refuse to end call any ideas, been back to apple 3 times!

Really need help as both my iPhone 4 and iphone 5 have the same problem, if I call someone using speaker the call never connects, just "hangs". Then when I give up neither phone will end the call! Been back to apple 3 times and all handsets replaced but still no different!

Not sure if this Term is Relevant towards an iPhone but, my iPhone won't Post unless if it's plugged into a Charger.

  • I'm taking my cell phone out of the country.  I do not plan to make or receive calls with it, and I will disable the roaming feature.  But, I am wondering if I can use the GPS or access a website with it without costing lots more??

    See above

I disabled roaming on my wireless pc card and VZW Access Manager showed the network as Verizon and after 10 minutes use got a phone text msg and a email saying my international roaming charges are exceeding $50.00, and I have never had the card or laptop across the border. Calling customer service got transferred to tech support and the tech wanted to add a global plan for $25 then she said she would cancel it at the end of the billing cycle and would credit my account the remaining balance owed, how stupid do they think we are, she wouldn't transfer me back to the customer service rep or to a 2nd tier tech, just trying to weasel me into something I told her I wouldn't agree to even if it was in writing and I know how Verizon works with verbal explanations of plans, been taken that way too. I've told the reps many times that the next time a Verizon employee tries to pull a fast one they will lose a customer that has never been with another provider. It appears that Verizon's towers near the border recognize users that aren't regular users in that area and try to charge ridiculously high data rates, $50.00 for 10 minutes, then the tech tries to get you to agree to something that will get them a commission, why else would they delay crediting you the amount, which most likely is not going to actually happen anyway, and it's not in writing so not able to prove it. Well Verizon isn't getting 1 cent of that charge and depending on how they handle this they may lose a customer and have to send some poor unsuspecting employee to respond to the small claims court or just plain default. One more call to customer service is it, sorry, done playing their game by their rules.

  • My phone does not know who is calling even thought that number is in contact list

    Hi everyone,
I recently synced contact. The phone number style is now XXX-YYYZZZZ. What happened is when someone is calling me, the phone did not recognize who that is.
Anyone know how to fix this? I do remember the phone style in my contact used to be like (XXX) YYY-ZZZZ.
How to convert from XXX-YYYZZZZ to (XXX) YYY-ZZZZ?
    Thanks

If Your Display Unit Shows the Wrong Name
Please Contact your carrier by phone, Live Chat, or email in order to have a carrier agent correct the name that appears on the Caller ID display units of those calls.
Caller ID Caller ID shows the name and number of incoming calls. Caller information will appear between the first and second rings on a customer-provided display device or display telephone, giving you the opportunity to screen your calls before you answer. Caller ID will also store names, numbers, dates and times of incoming calls (storage capacity varies with your display device model).

  • Unknown Podcasts and combining music and podcasts

Hi, I've been having a problem with a podcast that I subscribed to on my computer before I had to re-format my hard drive. iTunes stores these podcasts in a folder called "Unknown Podcast" and they don't show up in the podcast section or in my music library! I have to make smart playlists to find them, which is unfortunate.
First, how can I get my "Unknown Podcasts" to show up in the podcast directory?
Second, how can I get all or some of my podcasts to show up in my music library? I noticed 1 podcast that showed up in the library recently, but I have no idea of how to get all the rest of mine in the library. Please help!

Try making a folder in the podcast folder and name it the name of the podcast. Then copy or drag the podcast files from the Unknown podcast folder to you named podcast folder and it should show up in the podcast section of itunes.
As far as podcasts showing up in itunes main music library, you would have to somehow change the musical genre (listed under more info in the get info window) to something other than podcast and then drop it into itunes. I tried copying it to my desktop after changing the genre within itunes, but it still wouldn't let me drop it in the music library. I think you need some sort of script to change it because I also notice a diference in the channel count in the get info in finder. good luck

  • How to block unknown callers?

I get calls 24 hours a day from an unknown caller or callers. Is there anyway to block them without leaving my phone on complete silence for the rest of my life?

You would have to ask your wireless carrier if they provide such a service.
This is not done on the iphone.

  • Z10 pairing 2013 Toyota entune, Z10 caller-id Name, Z10 add in-coming call to Contacts, Z10 latest bootleg s/w Rel 10.1.0.2006 now, Z10 visual vm

    July 3, 2013 :
    (1)  Spoke to Toyota Technical Support today about 2013 Toyota entune, had them gooogle "wiki BlackBerry Z10" had them, then, to click 3rd one down on google listing : " BlackBerry - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia " had them, then, see picture of my BlackBerry Z10 and under it on the right side 5th item down see and read to me : " Units shipped 200 million "
Toyota states they are working on their 2013 Toyota entune included for 36 months which integrates iPhone V and Samsung Galaxy Android but no BlackBerry to Navigation, SmartPhone usage, e-mail to Z10, read e-mail while driving Z10, and Contacts with address to extend 100 maximum limitation into 2013 Toyota Navigation on-board silly memory, USB support to Z10 with the USB plug provided, POI points of interest on Navigation where you click it and it dials the phone number on record of every business selected by 200 categories gas dentist doctor pet doctor groceries bakery restaurant shopping mall motel camping grounds RV hook-up etc.
    (2) T-Mobile currently supports 10.1.0.2006 but I have loaded on previous BlackBerry products bootleg updated s/w releases which worked perfectly well and solved many of my previous issues on the 10 or so previous BlackBerry products I’ve owned since BlackBerry became the choice for users where security is the main purpose for business users, not mp3 listening to music for Apple which is just an over-priced under-technology product with lots of apps all of which I am complaining about in this post.
I’d like to do that again now, and see if any of these issues we all are having are being worked on in the least by BlackBerry.  Where can I get instructions of where to download whatever is the bootleg people know does fix at least 1 of these issues, please ?
    (3) In-coming calls show only phone number.  Never had a BlackBerry like that, ever.  Understand this is a known bug, while others waste your time with swipe down from Phone App and Click Settings and Click one of the 13 settings in there such as SMART DIALING and do something with the 3 area codes local calls where I live and something with National Number Length also not explained where it can be corrected doing that.  I need to see the caller-id name and number, some folks refer to as Deluxe Caller-ID.  Number and name, not just the number.  No idea who is calling me, ever.
    (4) Take in-coming call and press the number in the PHONE LOG on Phone App, and it calls the customer back.  I want to save the number to CONTACTS and either choose a contact to add it to, or have multiple listings for the same contact where I see one has a number and one just the e-mail I added.  I am still not satisfied with the add new contact every time I add via e-mail address when I already have the e-mail address and want to see it.  But, at least I can add contacts to the several thousand I deal with and at least have them in there twice.  That’s a start.
    (5) Visual Voice Mail, I am now paying for at T-Mobile.  And, I have programmed it on on the Z10.  What is Visual vm ?  If I have it, where do I see it ?  What is it the Z10 provides on visual vm ?
    (6) There must be an updated manual from the lackluster manual I downloaded when I upgraded from the BlackBerry Bold 9780 to Z10 which goes into a lot more detail than the one I downloaded, printed and went through to get to where I’m at, which is
Still after many months now, having a Z10 phone which :
    (1) does nothing with 2013 Toyota entune ?
    (2) must have a bootleg solid s/w release I can load with instructions ?
    (3) in-coming caller phone number and Name, not just # ?
    (4) Phone Log App click last in-coming call and Add to Contacts ?
    (5) Visual vm turned on both carrier and settings and not seeing it ?
    (6) latest manual on Z10 which someone surely has updated to address these issues
Anyone else having these issues items (1) through (6) ?
Give Thumbs-Up if helps you, or say Solution Accepted, or say Like.
    Solved!

My pleasure. And, I'm a guy. I'll look through my settings when I have a chance later today. Have a good one.

  • Iphone 4 drop calls & make a call from my contacts while I am calling

I am on EDGE, not 3G.
My old iphone 3G never dropped a call during conversation from my home,(I have a very good signal at home).
My new Iphone 4 ,from the same location, home, same place,is droping calls during conversation , and is making a call randomly from my contacts while I am calling/talking, without loosing any signal (always 5 bars),and without touching the antenna.
I hope the new update will fix those problems

Update is likely not relevant. Take it to an Apple store. It may be a proximity sensor issue.

  • How do I block anonymous or unknown calls on the I phone 5 and 6?

How do I block anonymous or unknown calls on the I phone 5 and 6?

Thank you for messaging us, mandmc. Being able to customize and block unwanted callers is important. In order to be able to block unknown numbers, there is a service feature that we offer through Family Base that allows you to block all unknown callers: http://vz.to/1sSnjqp
You can also search for apps that can help with this, but be sure to check reviews to make sure they do work correctly.

  • Using *77 to set 'anonymous' or 'unknown' call blocking is not working

Per instructions from Verizon, I used *77 to turn on anonymous call blocking last night. I dialed *77, and got a voice telling me that I have enabled anonymous call blocking.
However, it's NOT working. When I call home from my office, it shows up in caller ID as "unavailable"; shouldn't a call that is identified as 'unavailable' be blocked with this service?  Does anyone understand why this would be the case? Are all 'unavailable calls' the same?

Unavavailable/unknown calls and anonymous/private calls are two different things. Anonymous calls are calls from someone who has chosen to block their telephone number from being displayed on your caller ID screen. This means the caller has dialed *67 before dialing your phone number (or they have what is called line blocking where all their outgoing caller id info is automatically blocked without them having to dial *67 before every call).  *77 is used to block anonymous/private calls and force the caller to allow their caller id info to come through to your phone in order for the call to complete.
Unavailable/unknown calls are calls in which no caller id information has been sent. These are generally from collection agencies or telemarketers.  *77 will not block these calls in any way. The only services which will block or screen these calls are Call Intercept or Do Not Disturb.
