Another 10.4.7 (Intel) Fault- Font handling in browsers

If you create a page in iweb using the font helvetica, notice that in any web browser you use, the font is made bold,
Even with my web page (www.cactuar.net) and www.atomicmpc.com.au
The helvetica fonts are made bold, if you view this page on a pre 10.4.7 intel install or on a ppc. even on a normal pc this displays fine,
i have tried this from different accounts, i have used Onyx to clear font caches and all that, and this only happens in web browsers
i've tried Opera Safari and Firefox. i will do a comparison picture and post it shortly
EDIT: Intel 10.4.7: http://www.cactuar.net/images/random/intelupdate.jpg
PPC 10.4.7: http://www.cactuar.net/images/random/ppcupdate.jpg
The ppc one is what it is supposed to look like...

Ah ha! Yeah there is something buggy about font smoothing...
I connected my MacBook to a 23 inch Samsung LCD that has a VGA port at the back. When I connect my HP PC which is running a beta version of Windows Vista, it looks absolutely prestine. When I connect my MacBook to it, the display is nowhere as neat and clear as it should be. I've tried adjusting the font smoothing but it doesn't really make any better. My fonts look kind of blurry which is a big **** off...

I use classical Hebrew for my work, and Pages will only display English characters even with a Hebrew font selected. If I cut and paste Hebrew characters from another document, as long as the font is supported, it will appear in Pages.  If I type it won't continue in Hebrew.  I have tried downloading several fonts, including those from professional societies, but the only way to get Hebrew in my document is to cut and paste.  Does anyone know how to fix this?  I use an older MacBook running OS 10.9.1.  I used to do my Hebrew work in Word, but it is no longer supported by Mac OS.

    Just clarifying:
Pages '09 has bad support for Hebrew, Arabic etc but will accept pasted text.
Pages 5 has much better support but with bugs.
If you have columns they are in the wrong order ie Text starts in the left column and ends in the right column.
If you type English into Hebrew text it tends to fall in the wrong position eg instead of to the left of Hebrew punctuation it goes to the right.
As Tom recommends the only real solution on the Mac is Mellel.

btw Tell Apple, they are amazingly slow to fix this running sore which has been broken since RtoL was supposedly introduced in OSX 10.2.3 over a decade ago.

  • Freehand MX font handling

Hi, sorry if this has been discussed previously, I'm new.
Could anyone suggest a way to fix the fact that some of my files
are displaying perfectly regarding fonts in Freehand 10 (and under)
yet not Freehand MX? This is in Classic and OSX. On some machines
the fonts will appear but are not in character and will print like
this (ie. incorrectly). On others the fonts will not appear at all,
with no message or option to replace missing fonts. In old Freehand
you get that 'working' dialogue box as the application opens the
file, implying it is sorting things out (like fonts!) but nothing
in Freehand MX, just doesn't seem to bother... or something like
that. Is it the fonts themselves or perhaps font management (ie
ATM)? Please throw me some advice... for now we are reverting back
to Freehand but can't continue doing so.

Font handling on OS X is radically different than in Classic.
    In OS X fonts
can be installed all over the place, and in places where they
    can be
accessed only by the installing application. Adobe and
    Microsoft install
font for the exclusive use of the their own applications.
My strategy is to use FontAgent Pro to manage all fonts on my
    system.
FreeHand MX has trouble with corrupted font caches. You'll
    need to clean out
font caches regularly using a utility such as Font Nuke or
    Yasu.
I have found that if a font is displaying incorrectly,
    deactivating and then
reactivating it in FontAgent Pro will clear up the problem.
    It clears the FH
    font cache for that font.

  • Is it possible to throw another Fault from Fault Policy handler Java Class?

    Hi,
I am using SOA Suite 11g. My requirement is to catch any Fault that occurs in BPEL in the Fault Policy java handler, and then throw back another Fault (Which i want to create from the java class hander) by setting the Fault Part and other Fault details.
I will be getting the Fault message and code etc for different kinds of faults from a .properties file.
I tried creating a new BPELFault inside the handleFault method...
    BPELFaultRecoveryContextImpl bpelCtx = (BPELFaultRecoveryContextImpl) ctx;
    QName qName = new QName("http://xmlns.oracle.com/Application1_jws/FMF_Demo/FaultHandlerDemo","GenericFault");
    BPELFault flt = new BPELFault(qName);
    flt.setFaultName(qName);
    flt.setPart("<faultPartName>","Fault Message Text...");
    bpelCtx.setFault(flt);
The new Fault is thrown back to the BPEL process, but i am not able to get the Fault details within the catch block (for GenericFault) that i have set in the Java Handler.
Any help regarding this is highly appreciated.

  • IDoc to SOAP Receiver Fault Message Handling?

    Hi,
I am working on IDoc to SOAP Scenario (IDoc -> PI -> SOAP). It is in async mode without BPM. This works fine as long as there is no error on the SOAP receiver side. How to handle the falut message raised by the SOAP receiver and send it back the SAP ECC.
Do I need to use ALEAUD IDoc for this? If Yes, how to configure this to handle fault message? Is there any other way of doing it?
Could you please give steps to handle the fault message?
    Thank you.

    Hi experts,
i have scenario like this SAPECC---XI---WEBservice
i was decided to using the ABAP CLIENT proxy in sender side and soap adapter communication in receiver side
i will be get the wsdl file form client
problem is i am in bit of confusion like  am i need to create fault message for this asychronous scenario?
how can i create the fault message for this scenario(that WSDL) and how the abaperwill  handle those error
    thanks in advance

    Hi.
You can use fault message but it won´t return a error to your ABAP Proxy because your interface is ASSYNC. The fault message generated will stop in Adapter Engine.
If you need a return of the error, you have to change your interface to Sync mode.

  • Can SOA 11g fault policy handle XSD Validation errors from the Mediator?

I'm a newbie to Oracle SOA. So perhaps I am missing the obvious. But I haven't read much in the documentation specifically about using the XSD validation option on the mediator and have seen nothing specifically about catching this sort of exception in the fault policy (apart from the faults I already have in my policy). Can anyone suggest what I am doing incorrectly here or perhaps whether what I am attempting to do is not possible? Thanks.
    - Cris

Has anyone got it working yet?
In my case, I have the following sequence:
    FileAdapter -> Mediator1 -> Mediator2->DB Adapter
I am deliberately introducing validation error in File. Isn't it correct to assume Fault framework would get triggered at Mediator1 level since we are invoking FileAdapter service?
I am getting a strange behaviour. If I enable XSD validation at Mediator1 level, process is Faulted with no re-try option. However, if I enable XSD validation ONLY at Mediator2 level, I get Recoverable fault. There seems to be some disconnect between documentation and reality. I am using JDeveloper 11.1.1.3.0 version and SOA Suite 11g.
    Thanks,
    Amjad.

    Thanks

There is no point in retry on binding fault, rather you can raise it as exception and catch it in sepcific catch block or catch all will handle it.
Ideally this particular instance will be faulted and if required you can customize to send a mail with fault string to developer or support person or dba
This type of fault need human intervension to fix this code or it could be data issue.

  • Intel iMac font rendition: Fuzzy

I've just got a new iMac (20" screen) and I'm having trouble fixing the fuzzy appearance of all text fonts...
I've played around with the options under:
"System Preferences / Appearance / Font smoothing style"
to try and remove the apalling blurring of characters, but even on the CRT setting, text smoothing takes place and renders the output very "smoothed" or more accurately "blurred".
I've changed the "Turn off text smoothing for text sizes less than..." value as well, but this just makes those smaller fonts look extermely "jagged", which is the other extreme!
The blurry characters appear in every font, in every application, and only resolve to sharp (but jaggy) characters when less than 10 point (in my case).
So much for Apple's famous graphics abilities!
    Anyone help?
    Thanks,
    Rob.
    iMac intel 256Mb VRAM/2Gb RAM/250Gb HD   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Which diplay profile are you using?
I calibrated my display profile (iMac) with Target
Gamma of 2.2 (PC standard) and fonts look good.
OK - I've now done this too, however the font smoothing still makes characters appear too fuzzy ...
eg look closely at the upper case letter 'i': 'I'
On my screen the top horizontal bar of the 'I' appears quite blurred - the bar is about two pixels thick, and the lower pixels are grey, not black. This causes the character to appear blurred.
This happens on all smoothed characters.
I've now set the non-smoothing to all font sizes below 12 point, however I'd prefer to remove smoothing from ALL font sizes!

  • When moving a page from one pdf to another I see a message "consolidating fonts" and the added page does not view properly

I am working with multiple PDF files in Acrobat Pro XI.  Sometimes when I move a page from one PDF to another it does not view properly.  It was fine in the source PDF, but not when moved to the desired PDF.  I also see a message momentarily across the bottom of my screen that says "consolidating fonts".  What must I do to fix this?

    Lloyd ,
Follow these steps for Acrobat 11 .
    Launch Acrobat>Tools>Print Production>Acrobat Distiller
Now in Acrobat Distiller follow these.
    Select Standard in Default settings.
Go to Settings and select Edit Adobe PDF Settings.
Select Fonts and in the font source window select the fonts you want to Add.
Click Save As and then OK.
    See if this helps.

  • Memory fault trap handler

I apologize in advance, as this is not strictly
kernel related, except for trap handlers...
I get a SIGBUS casting sockaddr to sockaddr_in,
but only if sockaddr was declared on the stack.
I am using Forte C/C++ for Sparc WS6U2.
Getting right to the point, is there a way to have
the compiler strictly align structs declared on the
stack, similar to malloc always returning strictly
    aligned memory?
Is there any other workaround, other than using
-misalign (bad performance), or fixing each and
every instance of a struct on the stack?
When -misalign is used, can somebody confirm
that a kernel mode trap handler is used to catch
the memory fault and interpret byte-wise access
    instead of the usual SIGBUS?
What is the name of the trap handler that would
generate the SIGBUS due to bad alignment?
How can it be observed with dbx, or is that
    impossible?
    Where are trap handlers documented?
Please also see "need CC flag to align structs on stack"
in the Forte C++ compiler discussion forum for more details.
    Thanks in advance,
    -Ralph

Some partial answers to my own questions...
Trap handling exists and is architecture specific. In at least some
cases, the trap handler is known as #6. There is a paper on trap
    handling by Jim Moore: ftp://ftp.warwick.ac.uk/pub/solaris2/traps
However, I am still curious about the hope for a cc flag that would
align structs declared on the stack, similar to malloc'd memory.
Did, does, will such a thing exist for Forte C/C++?

  • Has font handling changed in Yosemite?

I'm having troubles with one of my fontshop fonts: FF DIN ROUND OT. I use it for my logo, headers etc. Don't know where to find the solution. Where to look next?
I've asked fontshop, cleared font caches, reinstalled the font files. Don't know exactly when the problems did occur the first time since I changed several things in a couple of weeks. Upgrading to Yosemite (10.10.1), reinstalling iWork's and Office to the newest versions, installing user accounts for my wife and kids (because of Yosemite-IOS), updating printer software etc.
The font shows well on screen while editing, but does not build right in print or in pdf (see image word and pdf). Other fonts did not seem to have any problems, though today even Calibri doesnot not show exactly the same in a design I made several weeks ago.
Fontshop resent the original fonts, I cleared font caches using Font Nuke as well as using a command line in Terminal (sudo atsutil databases -remove). I tried this on my Macbook Pro (2011) as on my MacBook Air (2014) as well. Both running Yosemite. Nothing works.

If you view the DIN Round font in a font editor, it most likely has a UTM value of 2048. Reset it to 1000. In the case of the font I fixed, it appears this way in FontLab Studio:
    The UTM setting is 2048:
By default in this app, the check box to scale the glyphs is off. Which is odd since it should really be on. With the check box on, the fonts outlines are scaled to the new UTM value so that the remain at their current baseline and ascender size. Meaning, they stay at the size they're supposed to. With it off, the outlines are incorrectly scaled by the percentage difference. So 2048 to 1000 results in a 204.8% scale factor, which gives you a result you wouldn't want:
The newly saved font will literally display just over twice the size as it did in Mavericks or earlier. So make sure the glyphs don't change size when applying the new UTM value.
Without a way to correct the fonts yourself, you may be stuck if you can't run Mavericks from another partition until the issue is resolved in Yosemite.

  • Slow pack and font handling

    Hi all,
I had a problem I think I resolved, but I want to know if my idea was correct and to find another solution.
I have developed on a Mac the GUI for a EJB application. On Mac and on Linux it's ok but on Windows XP it's sometimes very slow. I profiled it on Windows and I'd found that it was spending a lot of time in pack(). Going down further it was spending near all the pack() time into some function that is font related (don't remember the name, it's something like font2D..).
Than I noticed that using NetBeans on Mac the default form font is "Lucida Grande" that is not present in Windows XP. Having installed the font, it seems now to work similarly on the three clients.
Why pack() is so long if the font is missing ? What's going on ?
How can I do a "quick substitute" of the font on the client ?
Is there a better way to do this such as using a font that is an "alias" to a real font that is mapped at runtime by the jvm ?
    Thank you

I switched off my vision box for about 5 hours yesterday but when I turned it back on the problem is still the same.
When im navigating the tv guide or ondemand menus like scrolling through (Film, Tv, Replay...) it scrolls really slowly and blury and the font has changed.  The font remains the same on the menu titles at the top but its deffinately changed when browsing the Tv guide or through shows/movies.
Its a lot thinner..before yesterday all the text/show titles were like:  Doctor Who but now its all like:  Doctor Who   ...really thin and I can hardly read them.
Its been like this since Sunday/early Monday.   Are you sure there hasnt been any updates in that time? or anything that could have caused this because noones touched the settings or anything like that its just happened on its own.
I hope someone can help because its driving me nuts and straining my eyes

  • Yosemite and font handling -

since Yosemite (and i did a fresh clean install) only Opentype and some other fonts could be loaded.
A huge amount of my fonts (ffil/lwfn or afm/bmap) could not be loaded.
on OSX 10.9.5 there aren't such problems.
So this is a very important thing vor me.

Here is a list of websafe fonts:
    http://www.ampsoft.net/webdesign-l/WindowsMacFonts.html
You might want to google 'web safe fonts' and compare other lists to that one just to check.
    1. I think you're talking about ALT tags. You could do this as a workaround but it would still be slow loading, and search engines would index it as images, so your text would appear in Google images for example. You might also want to consider whether anyone might need to copy and paste any of your text at some point, and whether you'd ever need to print pages (they will be more ink-intensive and lower quality).
    2. You can embed fonts in your webpage; however this only works on PCs and Macs running Windows: http://www.sean.co.uk/a/webdesign/embeddingfonts_inwebpages.shtm
Another way around it is to offer an install of the font (check it's shareware and don't forget to offer both Mac and PC versions) and recommend to your visitors that they install it.
Also remember that whichever font you use, a visitor may have altered their browser settings to display your text differently anyway.

Wanting to upgrade my RAM and need to know how much it can handle. HOpefully someone can answer this for me

Be sure you buy from a reputable Mac-friendly supplier as Macs are notoriously sensitive to memory.  Two of the best are Crucial and OWC, http://www.macsales.com
They stand behind their products, have great support, and on-line videos on doing the installation.
