Another '911 Entire Movie Project Trashed'

My daughter had a major video project that just vanished tonight. When she goes to open the project the message ""A Project File is Missing
The file “_” couldn’t be opened and is being skipped. Click “Ignore All” to skip any remaining missing file messages."
I read the other thread on here and tried the following:
"I think you can retrieve your movie...or at least most of it; from your last save. Follow these steps:
Close your iMovie project.
Controld-click on its icon and select 'Show Package Contents'
Look for an icon with your movie's name.
See if there is another one with the name and a ~ after it. That is the prior, next-to-last saved version of your iMovie.
Double click on it, and you should see it open in iMovie. Check to see that it is what you want.
Do a 'Save Project As' (and rename it) so it will become its own iMovie, not remain part of the project file of the other one. Specify where you want this new iMovie to be stored. iMovie will copy this file to the new iMovie."
I found the the other file with the name and ~ after it. When I double click on it, I get the same message that I got originally. Does this mean the entire project is corrupted? Any other suggestions?

If all else fails: In the Package Contents folder there should be a Cache folder inside of which there is a file called Timeline Movie.mov. Click on that and see if it will open with your entire movie project intact. If it opens successfully, control click on the Timeline Movie icon and make a duplicate. Drag the duplicate onto your desk top, and from there you can drag it into a new iMovie project. It will be just one long clip, but at least you have your movie. You can split the clip into multiple clips for editing purposes.
Parenthetically, I would make sure you have enough free disk space on your start up disk for iMovie to operate properly. 20-25 GB is frequently recommended on this forum. Also, you might consider deleting preferences and doing a permissions repair. Post back if you don't know how to do that.

  • How to: Search for a string in entire movie project?

I used a copyrighted name a few different places as I was creating a very long and complex game.  I have since removed it from the game where it was previously showing up but when I search the exe, it's still there in a few places.  Is there a way to search the entire movie project and all content, all scripts for a particular string?    For instance "Microsoft".
If so, I cannot find a way and could use some direction, even if it's an xtra I need to install that adds this capability.
    Thanks!!!!!

Scripts are easy. You open any script window and hit Ctrl + F and enter your search term in the Find box, ensuring the "All Casts" radio button is checked.
For text and field members you'll need to write a script that does the search for you. If you were clearer about what you want to happen when you find your search term in a text member then someon could help you with how to perform this. I know there is already code posted to the forum somewhere about how to examine every member of every castLib checking the member type - which would be a very good place to start.

  • Error - do not had permission to move Project to trash

I am trying to delete a surplus (command: move project to trash) project from Final Cut Pro X and each time am told that I do not have permission to move the file 'name' to the trash.  It then tells me to select the item in the finder and choose File - Get info - and change permissions.  I have permission to read and write in that folder and all sub-folders.  I have repaired permissions  and am still getting the error.  I also tried to move the project in the Finder to another folder.  It will only copy it to the new folder - not move it.  Is anyone else having this problem?  I will say that I did a quick test project with multiple layers, picture in picture, Ken Burns,Templates from Motion, key frames, everything that I could think of to throw at it and burned to blu-ray -- turned out beautiful.  Just wish I could clean up the project folder!
    Betty

I had gotten rid of the project by deleting it from the Finder.  Thanks for your reply.  Deleting from the Finder seemed to be the only choice.  I am the only user on the machine and the project is on the boot disk.  I have one project that is movable from within FCPX and one remaining that isn't.  They were created about the same time.  Possibly the frequent crashing of FCPX has caused some corruption.  Hopefully, updates will follow soon.

  • Move projects to trash in imovie

I have imovie 5. I have a number of movie projects that I want to delete and send to the trash. I have tried dragging to the trash, etc but nothing seems to work. What is the secret???

    Hi
I have video clips that I have imported into my iMovie Events library, not vis iPhoto, which I can reject, but which will not then delete. The clips show up as rejected with the red line, but selecting the option to move rejected to trash does nothing.
I have other video clips that I have imported into my iMovie Events library, not via iPhoto, which I can reject, and which also WILL then move to trash
It seems to be random when it works and when it doesnt. Sometimes if I shut don my Mac and start it again, I am then able to move some of the clips to trash that would not move before. But this does not work every time.
I store my iMovie events on an external hard drive. I have used disk utility to verify the disk and it says all is OK. I have about 1/3 free spacestill on the external drive - and trash on my iMac is emplty (as is he iPhoto trash, although I cant see why that woudl be relevant)
Any ideas - is this a bug? I need to be able to delete rejected clips or I will run out of disk space....
Any help would be greatly appreciated

  • How would I replace just the (imported) movie portion without having to start over the entire iDVD project from scratch?

I've just added a new ending and want to burn the new version of my iDVD project.  How would I replace just the (imported FCE) movie portion without having to start over the entire iDVD project from scratch?

In an attempt to help clarify:
The FCE 3.5 project I first wrote about had 10 chapters and was a mix of stills and transcoded DSLR video clips that measured 58 min in length. After FCE converted it to a Quicktime movie, it exported from FCE to iDVD 7 flawlessly until I was asked to make a last minute change.
My older software wasn't endowed with the ability to "detect modifications".  However, Deleting Assets was successful and a revised version of the original video could substituted saving me from starting iDVD over from scratch (thanks to Old Toad).  Luckily, the ugly iDVD BUG did not awaken during these procedures.  Thanks Bengt W.
I hope this helps the discussion.

  • Is there a way to watch another family members movies through family share without downloading the entire movie?

Before family share my kids were signed in under my apple ID. They had the ability to just stream whatever Disney movies they wanted that we owned. Now they have to download the entire movie to watch it? Seems a bit over kill to me. Plus those movies fill up their entire ipads.

Think of all this as two entities, 1. your Apple ID's and 2. Apple services (and by services I mean iCloud, iTunes, Home Sharing, Messages, FaceTime, Support Communities etc etc).
You can choose to use a different ID for each service, thereby creating the flexibility you are looking for.
For iCloud (which syncs contacts, mail, calendars etc) I suggest you each use your own ID, this means you will have your own contacts etc.
For iTunes, you might use separate ID's or you might both use the same one, I make no suggestion here because there are benefits to both ways. You may want to keep your music, movie, books and app purchases separate or you may want to unite them to avoid potentially paying for things twice.
For Home Sharing I suggest you use just one ID, it doesn't matter who's it is, so long as you both use the same one, this will ensure that any device using home Sharing can see and play the content from anyone's library on the same network (regardless of which ID it uses for iTunes) that is logged into the same home sharing account.

  • Unable to move project from external drive back to FCPX.

The HD was recently replaced in my iMac. Fortunately I had backed up my FCPX events and projects to folders on an external drive. I have down loaded FCPX again to the new HD but I'm unable to move my project back into FCPX. Having opened FCPX, I then open the project library, select the external drive, open the folder containing my project but the  "current version fcpproject"  is grey  (not available). I was however able to drag the "fcpevent" file into the event library.
    Any help will be appreciated

Since there is no disclosure triangle on your external showing in your project library, there are two possibilities:
    1) There are no projects presently located on the drive.
    2) Project files are on the drive but FCP can't see them because they are not at the root level of the drive.
So either way, to straighten this out you will have to move some files in the Finder – even though best practices (as both Tom and Luis have pointed out) are to stay within FCP to do that.
Move the existing CurrentVersion file to a temporary folder to hide it from FCP.
Unless you know that the Ball project is at a specific location on your external, do a spotlight search on Final Cut Projects. If something comes up, with FCP closed, navigate to it in the Finder and move it to the root level of the external drive. Then open FCP and it should now be accessible in your project library.  Select it in the library; go to File>Move Project. Things should now work.
But if you don't have another copy on your external, open FCP and hot the plus button at the bottom of project library and create a new project. That will create a Final Cut Projects Folder in your Movies folder (which is where it should be in your home directory). Close FCP. Open the temp file and drag the CurrentVersion file that you hid to the Final Cut Projects folder.
Hopefully, you wil now be able to get back to work.

  • What should I do to finish up entire movie?

I finally finished a feature length project for the first time using FCP5.
    Here are my questions.
    1. RENDER- I rendered all. But there are parts which are still green. Do I have to render this all? I don't quite understand, the status-green.
    2. Audio- Some audio parts have blue line on the clips. Can I leave it like this?
    3. Level- What is the best way to check audio peak, and video broadcast safe?
Do I have to watch entire movie and check those levels one by one?
    4. Best audio level- I understand audio level has to be below 0 db. But what is the best audio level? In other words, what is considered too low?
    5. Is there anything else to do before export the movie?
It sounds stupid questions, but I can't find answers...
    Please help me...
    Thank you.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Congratulations on finishing your project.
    1. Make sure that "Preview" (green bar) has a checkmark beside it under your Sequence> Render Selection and Render All menus. That will get rid of the unrendered portions of your project that have the green line above them in the timeline.
    2. Do you mean a blue line at the top of the sequence on the audio clips? Or a blue line on the clip itself? You can do an Audio Mixdown under the Sequence> Render Only menu (or option + apple + R) to ensure all of your audio is rendered and mixed.
    3. Check your audio level on the FCP meters should suffice- you'll ouput based on the media you're going to. Are you exporting it to a self-contained Quicktime file, or outputting to tape? For example if you're going out to a DVCAM deck, place NTSC Bars and Tone on your timeline and set the tone to -12dB (or -20, depending on your application), then set the deck to record at that level based on the reference tone...
3a. You can check your video levels through the Video Scopes under the Tools menu, although a proper external waveform monitor is always nice. I'm going to assume you don't have one though or you wouldn't have asked.
    4. Generally, you want your audio averaging at around -12dB, peaking at -6. Digital audio will clip at 0dB.
    5. There's a lot more you can do to wrap up, such as Media Managing the project and organizing yourself, etc., but it's too much to go over here. or rather I guess it's too much for me to think about right now. I'm sure you'll get some more suggestions from others, but you can use this as a basic rundown.
    Good luck!

  • Move project question

I'm new to Final Cut Pro X - used FC Express (4, I think) for years.  Some how I didn't set up the project properly when I started and while the media files were on the external Firewire 800 drive I bought for the project, everything else was on the internal drive, which was fairly quickly filling up (hardware & software info below).  Did some research on this forum and used the move project command to move the project to the external drive.  The problem is now when I Launch Final Cut and open the project there are no Timeline events.  The directory and files on the hard drive look the same as they did on the internal drive.  My question is, am I screwed?  Is there any way to retrive my Timeline or do I need to start over.  I was almost done - the video was a musical we filmed here - four cameras, separate audio recording, 200+ events in the timeline.  Please help.

In FCPX the only way to open projects is from within the app – accessing the project files from the Library.

I guess my question is where did I miss a step to keep from loading up my main drive with all the render files?  I don't think I ever saw anything where I could have specified that.  Where do you assign the scratch drive?
You have a choice of keeping your projects and events on your start up disk in th e home folder>Movies, or on another drive on your network – at the root level of that drive. Those other drives appear in the project and event libraries. If you select one of the drives and create a new event (Option–N), it will put that event in a FC Events folder at the drives root level. Creating new projects (Command–N) works similarly. IMO, it's the best way to organize projects and events.
Also, sorry about no screenshots but I couldn't remember how to do it.
Shift+Command–4 and make a selection…automatically takes a screen shot and throws i on your desktop.

  • Move Project Server to a new Server Farm

I would like to migrate Project server environment along with Project and Resource Data from one server farm to another farm. The environment has customized with custom Enterprise Templates, fields and lookups. Servers in the earlier farm are in a different
AD (Active Directory) environment. So, the new server farm would be in a new Active Directory.
I would like get the key steps and procedure to move Project Server across the two environments. Would the Database attach and detach process work? Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

    Abhijit,
I personally did not have to do this, but it seems to me that there needs to be a trust set up between both AD Environments. Also, the service accounts will need to have appropriate access on the restored databases.
Please refer this link for more information:
    http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/MS-SharePoint/Q_27154301.html
Alternatively, you could use a third party tool like FluentBooks to migrate the data. Still think that the AD users need to be migrated first.

  • Premiere Elements 9 can't find moved videos?  How to move projects?

I have a customer with an almost full hard drive, with almost 100GB of Premiere Elements stuff.  I copied the videos (.mts) to an external drive but the project can't find them there.  I can open a project and go to Get Media, and if I browse to C:\My Documents\My Videos (the original location), I can get the video.  If I browse to the new location (E:\My Videos), I can see the video but double clicking it does nothing.
I have looked in all the preferences in the Organizer and the Project and I can't find the path "C:\My Documents\My Videos" anywhere, so I can't change it to the new location.  Projects can find them in "C:\My Documents\My Videos" even though the current path to videos is shown as "C:\My Documents\My Pictures".  How do I do this?
A second question:  How do I move projects to the new location?  Most of the answers I have found are for Elements 4 or so.  If it's obvious and is answered in another location, a link would be great.
    Lew

To move a project to a new location -- such as to an external drive -- use the Project Archiver, under the File menu.
This will copy not only the project file but also all of the connected media files associated with a project without losing the links. You can then delete the original project and media files from the C drive.
Otherwise, you'll need to open each project and manually locate the links to the media clips -- which is no fun. (Although, if the clips are all in the same folder on your drive, if you connect one clip, the program will recognize the others and automatically re-connect all of the clips for that project.)

  • How to safely delete movies if I originally clicked Keep File instead of Move to Trash?

    Hi,
100 GB of my 250GB hard drive is iTunes movies, and I'm about out of space on the drive. So I went through the process of deleting the movies from iTunes, making sure to leave the "Also delete this item from iCloud" unchecked on the prompt "Are you sure you want to delete this copy of the selected item?", but I incorrectly clicked Keep File instead of Move to Trash on the prompt "Do you want to move the selected item to the Trash, or keep it in the iTunes Media folder?"
So my hard drive is still full and I'm not able to get back to the offer to Move to Trash. When I went to the Media folder and moved a movie to the Trash myself, iTunes would no longer start, giving me error 13014. So I returned the movie to the media folder and iTunes was able to start again. When I try to delete the movie from within iTunes, it now only gives the option to hide the movie.
Is there a way to safely remove the files from my hard drive without breaking iTunes?
    Thanks,
    Phil

No easy push-button solution I can think of.
You could export the main itunes Music playlist into a spreadsheet and use that to compare what windows explorer has.
Right-click Music in the itunes source list, export it as XML, and import it into a spreadsheet program so you can arrange it by whatever seems esiet to search on.
Another thing you could do, is create a blank library, import all your existing music and see how many songs are in the new library vs. your old library. For god's sake make sure you have the itunes preferene to copy files turned off when you do this, so you don't gets a bunch of duplicated files on your hard drive.
Then you could switch back and forth between your libraries to check things out.
    How to use alternate libraries:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesWin/8.1/en/15502.html
Just keep in mind, itunes always tries to use the last library it opened unless you do the shift-start.

  • I-Movie project file not readable!?!?!

Just did a lot of work in I-Movie 4.0 and had a good 25 min. of almost finished movie and a lot of clips stored in the clip window. This is a project I have been working on for a few weeks. Later when I went to turn I-Movie back on it said the I-Movie project file was not readable. I have never seen this happen. I don't know what I could have done? I was emptying some trash before I turned it off but there is no way I would have erased the movie. How did I corrupt the file? I can access the time line movie through the quicktime file but there are lots of missing sound and I'm missing all the extra clips. How can I get that I-Movie project file to open!?!?!?

It's usually possible to re-open a damaged project by identifying and removing any flawed clips — those that were damaged by emptying the iMovie Trash. I can usually help you do that if you send me a couple files.
This describes what files to send:

  • How to delete photos when iphoto9 doesn't respond to move to trash command?

The command "move to trash" works on some photos and events and not others.Currently have about 27,000 images in about 600 events.    MacBook Pro runs Snow Leopard ver 10.6.8 and iphoto 9.   I hit option & command keys when opening up iphoto and checked off rebuild library.  This did not solve the problem.   Thought it was not enough RAM and lack of hard disk space.  Recently doubled RAM to 4 GB and increased HD from 200 GB to 750 GB.   Still have the problem.  Tried to rebuild library again after the upgrades but to no avail.  Tried to delete event through the finder by opening up package contents in pictures and accessing data and noindex data and then deleing the images in the particular event.   The images were deleted but the event (now without pictures) remains in iphoto;  the event cannot be deleted.    Folks at Apple Store are perplexed.   Apple consultant ran out of ideas.   They thought that it might be a defective spot on HD but when the HD was replaced, the problem remained.    Has anyone experienced this problem?    How can this be solved?   Thanks,
    Explorer1

    You've trashed your Library.
    1. Before you changed the Hard Disk, how much free space did you have on your Mac? Running iPhoto on an overcrowded disk can cause database corruption - which would account for the symptoms you are seeing.
    2.
Tried to delete event through the finder
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things,, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
And even at that: you did it worng
and accessing data and noindex data and then deleing the images in the particular event.
That's trashing the thumbnails, not the photos. So the pics are there, as is the entry in the database but you've removed any way for iPhoto to show or mange them.
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
