Another Apple ID question

I have an older iPad which was setup using an Apple ID which is a deactivated/discontinued email address.  I have a new Apple ID and would like to switch the iPad over.  Trouble is I can no longer receive mail at that old address and I am unable to answer the security questions correctly!!??  There is information on the iPad I wish to preserve (contacts, etc.).  I have the feeling that I must "restore" the iPad to get out of the old Apple ID, but how to save the info in advance.  Thanks in advance.

If you just changed your Apple ID, you should be able to sign out of the old ID and sign into the new one in the settings.  Settings>iTunes & App Store>Apple ID. Tap the old ID and sign out. Sign in with the new one.
I can't really tell from your statement if the problem is more complicated than that, so if it is, ask Apple for help here.

  • Locked out of iMatch:  iMatch/HomeSharing/Apple ID Questions

I purchased an iTunes Match subscription in November (with my Apple ID).  We recently gave our son an iPod and set him up on a separate Apple ID.  He has a separate log-in on our computer and I used Home Sharing to transfer some songs over to his log-in.  We also transferred over some of his purchased via Home Sharing so that I could save them on our external HD.  Somehow I have lost the ability to use iTunes Match.  It kicked me off and I can't sign back it.  I get a message that the "computer is already associated with an Apple ID and I can't associate this computer for 82 days."  I did not try to set up iTunes match on my sons account.  I only use it for our Apple TV and my iPad.  I don't understand how this got messed up.  I am not happy waiting for 82 days for it to reset itself as I paid for this service.
Is there anyway I can reset it?
Is there a way to know what I did to cause this issue?
Am I not allowed to have another Apple ID (my son) on the same computer? (but a different log-in).
Am I not suppose to type in his Apple ID on my log-in in order to transfer his purchased on to our HD?
    RESPONSE FROM APPLE:
Greetings from Apple iTunes Store Customer Support! My name is Sabrish and I will assist you today.
I understand you have not been able to use iTunes Match as you receive a message "The computer is already associated with an Apple ID and you can't associate this computer for 82 days". I certainly understand your concern.
Once a device or computer is associated with your Apple ID, you cannot associate that device or computer with another Apple ID for 90 days. I'm sorry, but you will need to wait until
you have reached that time period so you can associate a different Apple ID.
For more information, please refer the below article:
iTunes Store: Associating a device for computer to an Apple ID for Automatic Downloads
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4627
I hope the above information is helpful. Thank you for your interest in the iTunes Store. Have a nice day!
MY RESPONSE SECONDARY TO UNANSWERED QUESTIONS (WITHOUT REPLY)
Thanks for the response.  I still don't quite understand what I did wrong.  I went to an Apple Store today to discuss this issue and all the techs there were perplexed that I couldn't have more than one Apple ID on my computer.  They said that I should be able to have have multiple log-ins on the computer with each log-in having their own iTunes/Apple Id Account. My wife and I have Apple TV, the computer, an iPad and 2 iPods on our log-in.  We have 3 boys and would like them to have their own iTunes account so they can make individual purchases.
So… are you saying this is not possible without messing up my iMatch account?  I did not try to associate iMatch with their device (only my wife's and my devices).
What do I need to do in the future to keep this from happening again.  I am very upset that I purchased a year long agreement for iMatch and have already been locked out for 90 days for not doing anything that I shouldn't be able to do.  I don't want this to happen again, when the timer resets.
Can you please provide me with a solution to having multiple family members who have Apple ID's when I only have one computer.  Do I need to delete their Apple ID account? (seems ridiculous), or did I put this in motion by doing something like hooking up Family Share to their iTunes.
I fully understand restricting one device to one Apple ID account… but not the computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure you can.  This explains the "90-day switch rule": iTunes Store: Associating a device or computer to your Apple ID - Apple Support.  You can try contacting iTunes store support to see if they can do anything for you: https://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.

  • Hello i can't registrate my iPhone c, apple tells me the the serial number is already in use with another apple id ???

    Hi,
i tried to registrate my new iphone 5c, but everytime i put in the serial number in my support profile it tells me that the iphone is already registrated with another apple id.....When i started the iPhone for the first time i used the same id that tried to registrate it with. What is the problem here ?
    Thanks

Its a brand new iPhone 5c from an official retailer
That does not answer the question. I'm going to take a guess and say that whoever you bought it from is NOT actually an authorized reseller for the iPhone. If you'd like to give us the details on exactly where you bought it, maybe you can disprove that.
In any event, the "solution" to your problem is to return the phone for a refund. Then you can buy one from a legitimate source.

  • Can't download previously purchased music to new iPad "Associated with another Apple ID"

    Hi There,
I have a brand new iPad Air and can see my previous purchases in the Music app. But when I try to download (by clicking the download/cloud icon) I get a confusing error:
"This device is already associated with an Apple ID".
The thing is, this is a brand new device - how could it be associated with another Apple ID?
The only other Apple ID on the device is the one used for iCloud - could this be confusing things?
Does anyone know how to get music onto the device?
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers
    Ben

    Thanks Amish,
Dang it, I accidently marked your question as the answer from the email notifcation and can't change it.
I purchased it from Apple and have been in contact with them for over a week. Unfortuantely, they insist I'm logged in using differnt accounts despite me sending screen shots to the contrary.
I'm posting here becauase I'm getting nowhere with Apple - it's like they're stonewalling or the person I'm dealing with (Russ) is assuming I'm an idiot.
I've been using Apple products for 25 years, look after an OSX server (have also maintained a Microsoft SBS server) so am quite familiar with computers and user accounts.
But this situation has me stmped - both in terms of why it doesn't work, and why I can't get Russ to understand that I'm not logged in using a different Apple ID.
He keeps senindg me links to iTunes terms and conditions - I can't listen to music purchased from Apple on my Apple dvices also purchased from Apple. How can iTunes Ts & Cs justify that?
I've decided to a go a differnt route and report a problem via iTunes and see if I get a more helpful support guy.

  • HT204074 my new computer says it's already associated with another apple id

This 90-day timer is very frustrating, especially considering the fact that, when I try to sync my iPhone5 to iTunes on my new laptop, I get the message that it is already associated with another apple id...how can that be?? Must I really (really?) wait 80-something more days before I have the opportunity to correct this? What's to say I will be able to, considering this current 'association error' happened without my knowing how/when/why, etc.? Grrrr...Apple.
I seem to remember a prior post that mentioned Apple fixed that particular problem for them via phone? How do I get through to that helpful person? What channels do I follow when support depends on serial number or info unrelated to my question? Ugh - thanks in advance for the help - please word it as simply as you can because I feel like a real dunce.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You'll have to choose between cancelling and Transfering. If you transfer you won't be able to use music purchased under your account or change your settings for 90 days.

  • I don't want to know how to delete duplicate photos anymore. I would like to know why Apple have not put in delete duplicate option menu in iPhoto? Very curious. Is it to frustrate users, so they have to go out and buy another apple photo product?

Just want to know why Apple have not made an options menu to remove duplicate photos in iPhoto? I know about downloads you can purchase to delete Dups, but I'm very interested to find out from apple themselves as to why they left this out, to die without knowing this is like having viruses on a pc or waiting for the web page to pop up on windows...
    Option
    A. Is it to annoy the user, to frustrate them enough to go out there and buy another apple photo product?
    Or
    B. Is it to annoy the user, to frustrate them enough to commit suicide, to reduce population in the world?
Is there a third reason? Can someone help me, otherwise I'll have to go with option B.

We have three operational computers, one does not have iTunes on it.  Since Apple is saying I have more than 5 authorized computers, and I can't imagine what they are, I am afraid to deauthorize all my computers.  See what I mean?  I just wanted to ask the question about how I can find out WHICH computers Apple thinks I have authorized, so I can decide if it's safe to deauthorize them all or not.
You could have more 5 computers authorized if you ever, for example, reformatted a hard drive or replaced a hard drive without deauthorizing the computer first. Apple's system would see that as a different computer, even though you don't. There's nothing to be afraid of in deauthorizing everything and the reauthorizing what you actually have. You won't lose any data. Mistimp is correct, they can't tell you which computers are authorized.

  • I have another apple ID but I forgot the password and apple does not send the link to reset it to my email. What do I do to have it back?

I have another apple ID but I forgot the password and apple does not send the link to reset it to my email. What do I do to have it back? It is really important.

If you know the answers to your security question for the ID you can use that method to reset the password rather than email (by going to https://iforgot.apple.com/password/verify/appleid).
If you don't, you'll have to contact iTunes Store support for assistance: http://www.apple.com/emea/support/itunes/contact.html.  They frequently deal with Apple ID issues.

If you have a rescue email address on that account then you've checked the inbox and spam folder on that email account as well (and you can't get the password reset by answering your security questions on http://iforgot.apple.com) ? If you still can't find then try contacting Support in your country, they should be able to reset the password for you.

  • Another Apple TV?

I have one Apple TV hooked up in my living room using ethernet and the content of movies is based in a hard drive via iTunes.
Mt question is in order to get that content in another room I know I need another Apple TV but what kind of connection will it need.
The Hard drive goes to ethernet going to the Apple TV in the living room.
I don't have another open ethernet connector to go to the another Apple TV
Will another Apple TV work via wifi only?
Also it is through a closed door so I am concerned that will hurt the signal.
Could I just get a ethernet junction box and do it that way via hard wire?
What Apple TV generation should I get?
    BF

The current model is AppleTV 3 (black, streaming only, no internal hard drive).
It works via wifi or ethernet - many people use wifi just fine, but you only know how good your wifi connection is when you try it.
You could use an ethernet switch.  I assume you are connecting via ethernet from a router currently?

  • Is this the correct place to ask apple a question?

Do I ask Apple a question here? Can't find anywhere else to ask.

wdl12, I'd suggest you start a new topic with your issue (use the "Post a new topic" link at the top of each main topic page). Not only is your problem on a Mac and not Windows (this is the iTunes for Windows forum), it's generally better to ask a question as a new topic rather than as a reply in someone else's thread. It's more courteous to the original poster, and is more likely to get your question the attention it deserves.
And since your questions appears to have more to do with another program (since iTunes can't burn DVDs except as data for backup), you'll probably want to look for a more appropriate forum in which to ask your question. I'd guess that you're using iDVD, so the iDVD forum will probably be the most appropriate.
    Good luck.
