Another battery expansion... How bad is this?

I was using my faithful MacBook Pro 17" to watch a 1080p video on my 42" LCD television, when I noticed that book was lifting up awkwardly. I turned it over and was startled to see the battery bulging from the laptop.
At first I was startled and turned the system off, then proceeded to remove the battery. I googled for similar situations and found it was more common than I would have expected.
It is a few few years old (I think it's an '08) model. What steps should or can I take regarding this situation; Is this covered by Apple or will I have to "bite the bullet" here and buy a new battery?

Has this really happened? Having spoken with multiple "Authorized Apple" technicians, I'm told that this is an isolated issue that is usually replaced after a phone call to Apple. Well, I've phoned Apple after being sent BY Apple to these technicians.
The result? I was told about all the customers that got free batteries for the same exact problem. In fact, I was told they were outside of their warranty period, AND did not require extended "AppleCare" due to the nature of this odd and rare occurrence. Furthermore, I was told that these batteries were replaced within three years from the date of purchase.
My laptop is NOT older than three years.
My laptop has been in the repair shop within the last few months already, and now my "laptop" cannot even leave the proximity of its power cord.
I think I may be beginning to lose faith in the Apple brand.

    It means that nano was used on a third-party software or synced from different computer to sync music. Does that nano show in iTunes? If yes, then restore completely. If not, then you may need to head to Apple Store and see what they can do.

  • My iphone 4s is over 2 years old and I need to replace the battery. How much will this cost at an Apple store?

    I have an iphone 4s that is  over 2 years old. The phone's battery is no longer able to hold a  charge for an acceptable length of time.  Assuming I need to replace the battery, how much will this cost at an Apple store?

    Basically, I'm new to Apple, despite using them before, but I've never actually owned my own.
    Since buying this phone off a colleague at work, I seem to be having problems with it. First, I noticed how rubbish the battery life is, then my charger almost went up in flames and thirdly my camera lense is scratched beyond belief.
    I know the phone isn't within warranty, although I was lead to believe it was before and during buying it, so basically I'm extremely disappointed with the general make up of iPhone's considering they cost such a **** of a lot of money, you'd think they'd be built to last.
    Back to my main point, how much would it cost for a new battery? Or a new camera lense if anyone can help me with that? (I know that the back of the phone was refurbished just before my buying it, so literally just the camera lense)
    Thanks!
    So basically it sounds like you bought an abused used iPhone and somehow that makes the phone subpar because dispite the abuse it should still last forever and look like new? Batteries don't last forever, even under ideal conditions, so your expectatoins are unrealistic. Take it in and have an estimate done.

  • How bad will this hurt?

    I have been considering buying a RV for a while. My boys aren't getting any younger. We currently have our house on the market. It seems like it is going to take forever to sell. My question is how bad do you think it will hurt my credit if I were to take out a small loan for approx $10,000 for a RV? My credit scores on fico 8 are around 660-670. I know waiting until after we buy a house is probably the best idea, but it just doesn't seem like it's going to sell anytime soon and I am dying to go camping and enjoy the summer with my husband and two boys.

  • Just how bad is this phone ? (E70 revisited)

    I have actually forgotten how frustrating Nokia phones can be as I had confirmed by (then) new E70 to the bottom drawer because with the firrmware on it, it wouldn't work in my bluetooth enabled BMer.
    What joy when I learned of the new version. Could it be that version 3.0633.09.04 (where do these numbers come from) would solve my problem ?
    Well I don't know. In fact I don't even know why I tried to put it on the phone. First I downloaded the latest PC Suite (the phone I have which actually works is NOT a Nokia, so I didn't have that on the PC ). Then I downloaded the software updater. Then I connected by recharged (and still plugged into the adaptor) E70, and fired up the updater.
    Next the USB message that my phone was disconnected from PC-Suite appeared, and as predicted the updater actually told me there was an update. I now had the option to leave or continue. When I continued, I got a message which told me the updater could not verify my phone !
    No WAIT !! I got past this by restarting, and while the message to get out was still on the screen, I used the utility in PCSuite to reselect my phone, and when the updater continued it started the download of 48.1M. Great.
    Next it came to the update bit. Again the process failed and again the solution was to do the little tinker with PC Suite to get past that point. In fact I got all the way to where the phone reboots, and shows the Nokia test screen. Here the phone seems to reconnect itself, but either its not fast enough or it's not connecting to the updater, because it reports that the update has failed. Sad but true.
    Should I have known ? Should I have guessed ? I have a buddy who has had an E61, an E70 and now wants to try the E90. Is he crazy or what ? S60 does for telephony what Locusts do for corn. If only words would describe how bad this series of phones really is...
    For those of you still here, who are in the queues for the E90, I admire your sense of endevour ! May the force be with you.

    You'd think... Eh!
    What I found was that at various stages during the upgrade the NSU disconnects from the phone (which allows PC-Suite reconnect). When the NSU needs to reconnect, PC-Suite was holding onto the connection (because, I think, NSU only disconnects it once at the beginning... )

  • So how bad is this?

    So today, for the first time in as long as I've owned my 2.0 GHz iMac G5, it just randomly shut down on me. I thought it was a one time thing, a power surge or something maybe, so I started it back up and went about my business. Then a few hours later, it happened again. And about 20 mins after that, again. By this point I knew something was up, so I backed up a couple vital files real quick, shut it down, and cracked it open.
    This is what I saw:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v12/newtikki/DSC00185.jpg
    So, I figured it was overheating because of the symptoms, but that looks really bad. When I closed it back up, I felt the slit in the back and couldnt feel any air coming out the half that the CPU feeds to, however, the other half (which i presume is pumped from the video card) was pumping warm air. So, how can I resolve this? I bought it in probably June of last year, so I don't have any warranty remaining. How much is this going to cost me?
    Thanks,
    Michael
    iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

    Hi Michael,
    My bet is actually that your primary problem is that the power supply is failing, and that your fans just might be running poorly because of dirt buildup or lower power.
    Your Mac will cut out before heat doess any damage to the processor.
    There are three fans - one for the Hd, one for the processor , and one for the "system" generally. The HD fan is really the one that does the most work usually. Its "base" setting is at 2300 RPM, while the CPU one sits down around only 1500 when its not doing a lot of work. Its only under load that it kciks up higher, and even then it will rarely be running as fast as the HD fan.
    So you can almost always expect to feel a bit more breeze from the HD side than the processor side of the slot.
    The general system fan usually sits on about 1700 rpm until things really start to heat up.
    Cheers
    Rod

  • LG Cosmos Touch VN270 turns on all the time and kills battery life - how to stop this??

    I lock the phone using the lock button on the side but then I'll notice that the display will come on spontaneously (an hour later or ten minutes later...it varies). I notice there is some symbol flashing (arrows and tiny cell phone icon at top of display)  and when I unlock it I will see a screen for browsing and downloading. This is super annoying because I have to keep recharging the phone even though I barely use it. And I can't find a setting to shut whatever it is off that keeps making it do that.
    It's true that the display dims a minute later but if this is happening all day then it wastes the battery. I can tell because I'm recharging the thing every other day, which I'd really rather not have to do.
    Solutions??

    Just to add another voice ... I've had the same issue.
    Due to my terms of employment I keep the phone on overnight. Between midnight and 6:00am the backlight comes on and stays on, even though the timer is set to 30 seconds. Once, and only once, I left the volume turned up, instead of vibrate-only, and received detailed instructions on how to set up the email feature. That was not a friendly way to wake up. If I see the back light on, or the Download screen, I can shut it off with the screen lock button. Sometimes it comes back on later. This definitely kills the battery by morning.
    I have worked with various Customer Support people who knew nothing about this issue. They have walked me through the remove battery, reset and reactivate phone, etc. to no success. VZW was kind enough to replace the phone with the same model. The second phone has the same issue.
    The local Verizon store would only tell me to please contact the Customer Service number. The corporate account rep at work has been a black hole, so far.

  • How bad is this recursive method?

    Ignore the variable names.
         public static int reverse(int blah)
              String temp ="";
              String remaining = "";
              String number = Integer.toString(blah);
              if(number.length() == 1)
                   return (Integer.parseInt(number));
              else if(number.length() != 1)
                   temp = number.substring(number.length()-1, number.length());
                   remaining = number.substring(0, number.length()-1);
                   temp+=reverse(Integer.parseInt(remaining));
                   return(Integer.parseInt(temp));
         }

    Hello,
    The code wont end if its length is >2.
    Will not be recursive.
    ex:
    234
    it will return 423
    thats the only issue...

  • Multiple query, Embedded, Subquery? How to do this?

    I'm still trying to learn PL/SQL and haven't gotten to PACKAGES, PROCEDURES, FUNCTIONS etc.
    I've posted this in SPATIAL, but I think now it's more of just straight SQL query structure at this point.
    It's a query of street locations. I need to take my STREET_NUM, STREET_DIR & STREET_NAME and get the X & Y coords from another table for that exact location. Then I need to do a BETWEEN on the values pulled and +/- 1800 of each X & Y. From that query I need the matching STREET_NUMs & STREET_NAMES from that same table. I then need to use all found street names and street numbers in a query that is used to pull all matching records that have an address that matches all the street names and street numbers.
    That is one type of query that I would need. I have another thought on how to do this as well. We are looking for 1 block north & south of each address as well as 1 block east & west. If I were to take an address, say 3200 N. Main, and just do a 3200 +/- N, and then somehow find all the streets east & west of Main that fall within 1 block's distance. I guess this would give valid results, but which would be a simpler query or even doable?
    Really need some help on this one. Thanx

    Break it down into conditions first
    select X_coord, Y_coord
       from My_Coord_tab A, My_Street_Tab B
       where A.street_num = B.street_num
          and A.street_dir = B.street_dir
          and A.street_name = B.street_name
    select x_coord, y_coord
        from My_Coord_Tab A, My_Coord_Tab b
        where A.x_coord between (X_Coord from above query - 1800)
                                      and (X_Coord from above quyer + 1800)
            and B.y_coord  between (Y_Coord from above query - 1800)
                                      and (Y_Coord from above quyer + 1800)
    Select Street_Num, Street_Name
       from My_Coord_Tab A
       where a.X_Coord = X_Coord (from second query above)
          and a.Y_Coord = Y_Coord  (from second query above)
    They you should be able to use them as subqueries
    select street_num, street_name
      from my_coord_tab A,
             ( second query
                   from ... , (first_query) B
             ) C
       where a.X_Coord = X_Coord (from second query above)
          and a.Y_Coord = Y_Coord  (from second query above)

  • Why is my battery life so bad on my iphone 4s. I signed up for a 2 yr contract with a new iphone 4s. The battery life didn't last a day. I went back to Apple and they replaced it with another iphone 4s. This one is just as bad. The iOS 5.0.1 does nothing!

    I have never been so disappointed with an Apple Product such as the Iphone 4s. When I signed up with a new 2 year contract, I received my iphone 4s. I charged it fully the night before, then it didn't even last the day (with minimal usage). I turned off Location Services, Wi Fi, and Bluetooth, this helped a bit. But what is the point of turning these services off, when I NEED THEM!!!  The wonderful new Siri doesn't work properly without Location Services turned on.
    So I upgraded to the iOS 5.0.1. version - that did absolutely nothing to assist the battery life.
    Apple, what are you going to do about it?  My new Apple phone is a LEMON!
    If I had of known how bad the battery life is on the iphone 4s, I would have got a Samsung Galaxy 2!!!!!

    It doesn't really matter whether I am talking to Apple or not (and I'm sure they monitor these comments), I want everyone to know how bad this new iphone 4s is, and all of it's problems.
    Apple have already launched an upgrade to the software - it obviously did not help, as many around the world would concur.
    As far as being patient and waiting for another "update in the works" is concerned, it is just not satisfactory. This is not a cheap phone, and those who are experiencing these problems, should not have to be paying a substantial amount of money, for a very smart phone, that obviously, has some serious problems.

  • How bad does my iPod touch battery have to be to get a replacement battery?

    My iPod battery seems to be not holding charge very well at all. I was thinking about making an appointment to get a new battery at the Apple store. But just how badly functioning does my battery have to be to get the replacement? I'm still under warranty.
    Also, will they just replace my battery, or the whole iPod? If they only replace my battery will my data be saved?

    Apple generally replaces these type of items.. even if its a battery issue.  They use to be more lenient about replacing the product, however due to everyone taking advantage of it, now they test it first to see if what you are saying adds up.  My advice is, you should take it there and have them test the battery and if it is really big noticable difference from a good battery charge they will replace the whole product.
    As far as data... you need to backup the ipod onto your computer before you go there! or you WILL lose all data!
    Also, if a battery does have poor performance within under a year; your probably not charging it right and or have the screen brightness on to high along with wifi always turned on and blue tooth!
    Hope this helps Lauren!

  • HT4137 My battery life is bad.....not getting long on full charge. How do I trouble shoot to see if it's a problem with the battery?

    How do I determine if my battery life is bad??

    The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
    Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
    How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
    At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

    Syncing to a new computer should give you the opportunity to replace the exisiting contents with the new.
