Another battery problem...any advice???

Hi everyone!
I've been reading some of the issues that were posted here. I also replaced my battery through the recall program last year. I have noticed recently that my battery only gets max 1 hour when it used to get almost 4 hours. I checked using Coconut battery and it says my capacity is only 25% of the original. Actually I mostly use my Mac plugged in. I just reconditioned the battery yesterday by draining it all the way, removing it and putting it back, then charging it all the way again and the results are the same. Also it's worth noting that I noticed this problem after switching to Leopard. When I was still on Tiger my battery seemed to be fine although I can't say with 100% certainty that it's the cause. Anyways does anyone have any more advice or do I just need to call AppleCare? Thing is I live in the Philippines and replacing the battery is not as easy as in some other areas...
Thanks in advance for your help!
Reg

Same problem. I will set my laptop down and come back and the light around the power cable is no longer glowing. I tried a couple different outlets and even installed it in a different surge protector. The weird thing is all I have to do is unplug the part of the adapter that is plugged into the wall or surge protector and plug it back in and it comes back on. Or just turn off the power switch on the surge protector and turn it back on.
I am almost 100% sure this is do to leopard. I just installed OS X 10.5.2 toward the end of last week going from tiger. Just started to notice the power problems the Yesterday and today. My battery life does not seem to be as good as it was with tiger or panther. Still better than what most of you report. I think I got 4 hours out of it yesterday. Also, I got a replacement power adapter under apple care less than a year ago. I have never had this issues in the over 3 years I have had this powerbook until yesterday.
This is the first time I have upgraded to a new operating system this early in the release and I feel it has been a waste of time and money so far. As a matter of fact my laptop is performing fairly well other than the problems mentioned above. However, my wife is graphic designer and her apps would open and do basis things ok but when it came time to collect for output or do a Print as PDF high res comercial print quality there was no way. We will have to spend another 600 to upgrade for adobe CS2 to CS3 and there is still no guarantee it will work. Freehand will probably not be updated to work with le0pard.
So I spent several hours doing a erase and install the old operating system so she could get her jobs out. We reinstalled everything. Like I said, not a good decision to go to leopard so far. I am going to stick with it unless more problems come up or my power adapter keeps acting up.

    No problem.
This is a user forum so you are not addressing Apple. There's nothing to fix, that's how home-sharing works. There would be no way for the ATV to recognize your library and display content if the computer is in sleep mode.
You can always airplay from an IOS device or use icloud if you don't wish to keep the computer on.

  • IWeb 2.0 Upgrade problem - Any Advice?

I just upgraded to iWeb 2.0.
I was curious and tried out another theme for my existing site, and without asking me - it saved the new theme. The worst part of this is that it also wiped out all of my photos across all 6 pages of my site.
This is a poor design - the software should confirm any changes before saving.
My currently published site is still intact.
The question is - how can I get my domain file back to its original state? I am hoping that 2.0 is better than the last rev (where you could not revert).

  • Help please. Some of my 'Notes' within Mail have disappeared? This is a problem, any advice or help is appreciated.

I have just noticed that some of my important and often used 'Notes' within my Mail app have misteriously disappared? The last time I accessed them was only a few days ago, and now gone! I have Latest Lion running, no iCloud sync at he moment and the 'Notes' were kept in my Notes sector in Mail. I have searched all mailboxes and files in Library... gone! Any help or advice?
    Thanks

Just came looking for answers and understanding for same exact situation. You are not alone. I am very glad I did not have to waste time finding the right string or forum, BUT I AM NOT glad I lost a very important file.
Driving of a nice three hour trip Sunday, I put some great inspirations into a current note in my "Notes" program.
Immediately plugged phone in to computer when I got home, and immediately did a sync. Today, while out, when I checked my iPhone, the notes I entered the prior day were GONE!  iTunes did NOT notify me of a "Conflict with sync" and well info gone, me very angry!
Plus, I did an experiement. I repeated exactly the before mentioned actions and the same result happened. (make note change on iPhone, plug into comp and sync in iTunes, remove iPhone from comp - with no "sync conflict warning message") On the fourth try (I was very aggrivated by then) I got the "sync conflict warning message." I repeated the test and its working fine now.
    WHAT THE F(*&%!!!!!
I depend on notes for all my todo lists, inspirations, quotes etc...... I use this feature the most. What am I to do?
Is there a way to have only the most recent note be the update?
Thanks (loyal mac user for over 15 years)

  • Sorry, another battery problem!

    hi,
    i've got a MacBook Pro 15 2.4GHz Penryn bought early 08.
The battery is used until red then the Mac is plugging into mains to charge.
I flatten it monthly (ish) and charge it right up to full. As far as I am aware I'm doing everything right but I am only getting 2 hours is from full charge.
    Battery info as follows
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 3060
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4290
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 227
    Condition: Good
Surely I should be getting around 4 hours per charge??
I have AppleCare but thought I'd check with you guys first.
    thanks
    Phil

Your battery is at ~78% of it's original capacity, a bit below Apple spec (which is 80% health for 300 cycles). Your usage pattern is not optimal for Li-based batteries, which 'prefer' to be used frequently but lightly, avoiding deep discharges except for a calibration every 2-3 months. (If your usage needs require to use the battery like that, it just means you'll need to replace it sooner; if you're doing it intentionally, the advice your following is relevant for nickel-based battery chemistry, but not for lithium chemistries).
A replacement battery will give a little longer life, but not too much more.
One more thing to check - short life may be due to a background process that is running a high percentage of CPU activity. Check Utilities > Activity Monitor > CPU tab, set the pop-up menu to Active Processes, click on the CPU column to sort, and see if anything is using a high amount of CPU capacity.

  • Macbook OS X 10.5.8 battery problem. Advice needed...

    Hi all,
I have a Mac OS X version 10.5.8 bought summer 2008. It recently had a new hard drive fitted and since then it says (Not Charging) and 0% where it normally charged fine. It could be a complete coincedence that that battery no longer appears to be working properly since coming back from the shop but it seems a little odd.
It is plugged in properly. I tried doing an SMC reset to no effect. The battery is four years old and I guess it could just be dying a natural death.
As it stands, I can use the laptop so long as it is plugged in but if I accidentally knock the power cable out the laptop immediately switches off.
It is less than ideal. Can anyone help me?
    Thanks a lot,
    Rebecca

  • IPhone Battery Problems?

I purchased my iPhone 5 around May of 2013. Nowadays, the battery seems to be discharging fairly quickly. Especially when it gets below 20%. Once below 20% all bets are off as to how long it will stay powered up. It could shutdown when the display reaches 17-18%.
Weird thing is, if I charge it for just a moment or 2, then boot it up again, the charge jumps well into the 2x%, maybe even 3x%.
I think that Apple has another battery problem to deal with and would like to see my iPhone included in a recall.
    Jim

If your usage and standby times are the same, then there is a process stuck trying to update. There could be other issues, but that is generally the problem. Make sure you have a current backup of your device and then connect it to iTunes and restore the device as new. Do not add any additional content to it. Test the phone for a short period of time and see if it works better, and if the times differ. If so, then try restoring to that last backup. If the battery problems return, then something is corrupt in your backup. You would need to restore it as new again and sync your content back manually.
Sprint insurance did not get you a device that was refurbished by Apple. That only happens from Apple. The refurbished device you received was refurbished by someone else, so all bets are off as far as quality. I would not concern myself with the Apple refurb program, as those devices are inspected even closer than new manufactured devices. Use the link that razmee209 provided to check to see if your battery is part of the replacement program. Next time you have an issue with the phone, make an appointment with the Genius Bar of the nearest Apple store to have it examined.

  • HT4060 My  first generation Ipad won't allow me to charge it by the mains socket.  This was a replacement as my origional Ipad had a software problem.  I have rebooted it a number of times but still not charging.  Any advice?

My Ipad 3G has decided not to charge.  I have been using the same charger that came with it which worked perfectly until a few days ago.  I have even tried to charge it using my incar charger, but it still won't charge up.  This Ipad is a replacement as my first one had software problems, so I am hoping this can get fixed and not result in another replacement.
I will be grateful for any advice.

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. To rule out a problem with the shuffle's onboard software, I would try a Restore on the shuffle using iTunes.  The Restore button is on the shuffle's Settings screen in iTunes.  This will erase the shuffle, reinstall its software, and set it to default settings.
If that does not help, you should do a test to confirm there is not a problem on the USB port, such as lack of power to operate the iPod and charge it battery.  Shut down (power off) the computer and disconnect all USB devices including hub, except for standard keyboard and mouse (if normally used).  If the computer is a laptop, connect its power adapter (so that it's not running on battery power).  Do this to reset the shuffle
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1655
Start up computer, run iTunes, and connect shuffle to a direct USB port on the computer.
If that does not help, it is more likely that the problem is a hardware problem on the shuffle, such as the battery.

Please note, this is not aimed at you, but a general observation.
If their Iphone 3Gs work great then all of them have to work great and those of us who have a really bad iPhone 3G experience are just too dense to use them, are one the wrong network, clueless about 3G or generally just technologically challenged dimwits who don't understand neither the wonderful world of 3G nor how beautifully the iPhone 3G works, even when it doesn't.
Again, I had more dropped and failed calls with the iPhone 3G in four hours than I had with My Nokia 6280 on the same 3G network in almost two years. The network is also very clearly not overloaded, since I never had another another dropped or failed call after yanking SIM card out of the IDoorStop 3G and putting it back into the Nokia.

IF your system is running extremely slow with no applications running other than Finder then I'd suspect a failing HD or you have a runaway process somewhere. Open Activity Monitor (Applications - Utilities - Activity Monitor) and look to see if you have any applications taking a large %CPU, if you do that is your problem. To test the HD run Apple Hardware Test, please read:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
to learn how to run AHT on your machine, also run it in EXTENDED MODE so it does the most complete test. If no errors are found after the first pass run it another 2-3 times to be thorough.

What happens when, after you connect your cam, you go to File > Import Media?
But before that, does your cam require you to export your video files upon USB connection? I have a JVC Everio HD and I have to "Export to Library" from the cam's menu first-thing. This was true even in prior iMovie versions.

  • I am having 2 big problems with itunes match / icloud - i welcome any advice!

So I finally have all my music itunes match / icloud and for the most part I am satisfied but I have 2 huge glaring problems I can't seem to fix. I emailed Apple and awaiting a reply but not holding out much hope there...
    1. Compliation don't work right via itunes match / icloud - I have a few large compilations albums & they display correct on my local itunes library. I have the tags set right, I have normalized the album artists, made sure my genre's are clean, etc. but when I let this match / upload to itunes match / icloud - my compilations are repeated via icloud many times. I have a large compilations called "singles" & it displays perfect on my local itunes. But via icloud it's listed 5 times. I have tripled checked my tags and reset them again and again. No matter what I do, I can't get my compliation abums to show up just a single time in my icloud list.
Th problem is now that I am allowing my iphone and ipad's music to be managed by itunes match / icloud, these compliations are showing up on those devices 3-5 times for each. So my album list is one huge jumble of repeated Albums.
    Any advice??
    2. Album artwork missing - On my local itunes, I have good album artwork for all albums, but when I let these match and upload via itunes match / icloud, several albums lose their artwork when displaying or downloading to my IOS devices. So I end up with a lot of blank songs / albums. Also very annoying.
So, on the whole I like the itunes match / icloud service, but I really wish I could figure out how to solve these two problems. Any advice?

If you have not already done so, I suggest set an Album Artist of "Various Artists" and make sure the "part of a compilation" option is selected in the metadata for the album. See if that helps the display.
