Another broadband speed issue- please help
My employer is a bb customer who uses this connection and also she is able to access email from her mobile when abroad, although i should think that this will have no effect on the download speed achieved on the home connection.
I have been asked by her to investigate the reason why the connection speed to a single pc at home is inexorably slow, it is almost akin to using the old dial up system.
I have carried out a number of speedtests using the BT speedtester, the result being the lowest download speed achieved at 79kbps and the highest speed achieved of 102kbps.
There are no other pc's connected to the line, i have changed the asdl filter to no avail, so i would be grateful to anyone who can offer any help or a solution.

Another -8 error issue Please Help!
I know this is becoming redundant, but I have been reading through alot of the existing threads regarding the issue and I have not been able to figure this out.
The two machines in question are a Macbook Pro (mine) and my friends brand new Macbook. We are both running new versions of iChat Av. Initially there were no problems with video conferencing, we were both on the same network. I didnt start to get the -8 error until we tried video chat each of us on our own network. I have been receiving the 8 error almost every time a video chat is initiated, however, sometimes we are able to connect.
From what I can tell from these posts, there are a number of things that might be causing this problem. I guess I need some clarification on specifically what these things may be. What is UPnP and how does it effect video chatting? Can I assume that the issue is with the other parties network since it worked perfectly over my network? Is there any specific configuration for the firewalls on our macs that need to be set up? Do I need to alter the settings on the PC that their router is connected to?
Any help, suggestions, solutions, or just some direction would be GREATLY appreciated!Sounds like Ralph is the official answer man. Ralph, maybe you can help me with mine as well. I am having new issues that I didn't have a few months ago. I have been using my iMac to video chat with family on a PC running AIM. This was working successfully for me for a few months(after I did some port forwarding in my netgear router). Recently (within the last 3 weeks) it quit working altogether. An added issue is that I can no longer connect with another family member's MacBook (same error message -8) that was working previously. Any help?
I am attaching my error log.

1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo iMac 1GB RAM Mac OS X (10.4.7) -
I decided to switch my PC to a Mac a year ago -sick of viruses etc. I bought MacPro, 2 30" cinemas and a few months later Macbook Pro. I run a financial trading business - Filemaker, Quantrix (financial modeling), and Excel and Firefox all day. However, I've never seen the throughput and speed that I expected. 40% of my commands produce the pinwheel - often for a simple search command in firefox. I've spent hours reading these forums with the understanding that anything nevative is delected by Apple. I have spent hours with Apple techs, who in most cases don't seem to know much about their own machines. I have a current clean install with all updates on the mac. No VM - Mac too slow to make it worthwhile.
Real question is how can such a highly touted machine be so slow in a workstation environment. I recently put together an Intel i7 920 machine with 6 GB Ram. I can be in Firefox on the mac, type in a google search & hit enter. Then go to the intel box, start Firefox, type in the same search, get the search results and click and be on the site - the speedy Mac Pro is still spinning pinwheels trying to do the search. Both machines connected to the same router going to the same IPS.
I know that the word slow is relative, but the secenerio above shows a 20-30 second difference between the 2 machines - Obviously, I ran the test multiple times. I know you folks love your Macs and believe me I did 6 months of research before taking the plunge, but it appears that I've made a $12,000 mistake.
The above is but one of the speed problems I'm seeing - financial modeling, spreadsheet - everything is slooooowww on the Mac. Any suggestions?
< Edited by Host >OK. Let's try to get some things straight. You have a 2007 model, not 2008, if indeed it's got the machine ID of 2,1. There's no i7 CPU in that model. There are no internal connectors for separate power, although there is a free drive power connector for a second optical drive. SATA SSDs can be installed in any of the drive trays. There are third-party products that enable mounting multiple SSDs in the trays to be used in RAID arrays (I can't give you a reference, but you can Google for it or perhaps someone else will pop in here with the information.) The only other motherboard connectors are the two for use by video cards for power and the additional SATA drive connectors.
Application slowness is frequently caused by too little RAM, but you haven't provided any information on just how much RAM everything you have running is consuming. Your 8 GBs may be too little. We also don't know how large your boot drive is nor how much free space is available. Also since you have a used computer we don't know if you've reinstalled everything or are using an operating system that came on the computer. All this information would be helpful to know.
You might start by downloading and installing AppleJack - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - and reading the documentation, then run the software. Select About this Mac from the Apple menu and verify your machine recognizes all 8 GBs of installed RAM. Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder, select All Processes from the Processes drop down menu, then click twice on the CPU column to display in descending order. Is there a process using a large amount of CPU time? If so the force quit the process to see if that helps improve overall performance.
I'm not really familiar with your router, but if you have an Airport Extreme Base Station I would suggest using it for compatibility. However, if you change routers, then suggest you first power off the modem, router, and computer. Wait at least one minute. Turn on the modem and wait for the status lights to indicate connection to your ISP. Next turn on the router and wait until the status light shows communication with the modem (the green light on the AEBS.) Last turn on the computer. Check Network preferences to be sure you are getting a valid IP address. I suggest turning IPv6 configuration to OFF. You also might try adding a different DNS address such as 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. This is done in Network preferences for the Ethernet port. For best speed don't use wireless. Wireless is at best 1/3 as fast as Gigabit Ethernet. -
This is yet another Yosemite speed issue. I've done some reading around and read the FileVault can cause an issues, I took a look and I've always have FileVault disabled. I installed EtreCheck and the results came up with a lot of RED and "FAILED". Unfortunately, I have no clue how to being to read this and was hoping someone could shed some light onto this for me.
Here are my results: (Just trying to right-click and paste this took almost a minute)
Problem description:
Installed OS X Yosemite and now Macbook runs extremely slow. I have had FileVault disabled the entire time.

Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash. Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder. Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space. If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application. In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder. You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder. You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder. Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item. Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder. Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences. Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab. Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS. Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term. Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default. You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder. Usually with the same name as the program or the developer. The item generally has a ".pkg" extension. Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications. Here is a selection:
1. AppZapper
2. AppDelete
3. Automaton
4. Hazel
5. AppCleaner
6. CleanApp
7. iTrash
8. Amnesia
9. Uninstaller
10. Spring Cleaning

Mid 2010 15" MBP i5 A1286 POWER ISSUE-PLEASE HELP-
The MBP works fine when mains connected but the only issue is every time I take the charger out it shuts down on me!!! So I have checked with a multitester & looks good the only thing i find hard to check for power is the battery itself as its hard to get a good connection, also I took to local Apple store & they checked with a new battery but said its still same issue so the guy disconnected nearly all the connecters off to check if they causing issue & he said now the battery is charging.
So they still have the laptop to do further tests etc, but I’m not sure what could be the problem hear as maybe there is some component which is bad so the battery’s not charging or what else could be the issue please help & advice as I’m really confused as if it was something to do with the logic board then surely it would not even charge even after checking with the multitester or like Apple genius done by disconnecting other components...
ANY HELP OR ADVICE WOULD BE HELPFULL,
THANKS GUYSTHANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS!!! BEEN AROUND 5 DAYS & NOT ONE PERON HAS HELPED...
BUT YEAH THANKS AGAIN...

Trackpad Issue - Please Help!
Hi there,
Hope you can help me out here.
I've recently purchased a 15" i7 Macbook pro. The machine is but 3 weeks old &, of course, very well looked after.
A few days ago, the built-in trackpad started behaving eratically. Cursor moving by itself, not responding to touch, clicking and opening things involuntarily. Not good at all. Many users seem to have had this exact same issue.
These problems seemed to miraculously stop after a few re-boots and possibly a software update? I really couldn't tell you what resolved the problem.
Unfortunately I now have a totally different problem.
There is a thin, possibly 8 to 10mm horizontal strip across the centre of the trackpad that no longer responds to touch. If I move my finger from the botom of the trackpad upwards (or vice versa), the cursor will stop momentarily as it passes over the horizontal strip. The buttons are fine and the rest of the trackpad is fine. For the moment, I've increased the cursor acceleration so that I can at least navigate round the screen with a smaller area of the trackpad. USB magic mouse seems to work fine.
If anyone else has experienced this &/or found a solution for this issue, please help me out here. I have rifled through endless threads about MBP trackpad issues with little success & do not live close to an apple store/genius bar.
This is a 3 week old machine that cost me a small fortune. To be getting software/hardware issues so early on in it's lifespan is really rather worrying for the future.
Appreciate your help here.
JI'm not sure what caused this, but I extended my lunch break and drove the machine down to the Westfield apple store. I didn't have an appointment with the Genius Bar but I managed to persuade one of the staff to speak to a technician in the workshop. She came back into the store and told me that they had replacement trackpads and that , considering the machine was only 3 weeks old, the technicians kindly sandwiched the repair into their timetable at zero cost. 2 Hours later, I now have a perfectly functioning trackpad/machine.
I can't thank them enough.
My only gripe is that I couldn't speak to a technician to find out what the problem was, how they resolved it or what causes these issues for future reference. Understanding why these problems occur often helps to build your own framework of understanding. Most of the threads i've read about trackpad issues are largely unresolved with people only speculating the problem/solution.
The initial issue I had with the trackpad's erratic behaviour seemed to be a well known problem that many are associating with a trackpad firmware update. Unless by pure coincidence I had an immediate & major hardware fault after it, which is unlikely, my personal guess is that the two issues were related. -

Need to Resume download to complete the ongoing Process.
Last Resort, put the iPhone in DFU mode (Google How to do that). Connect in iTunes. Follow on-screen prompts to Restore. All Data would be lost, if not backed up earlier.
To save the photographs you may have to use third party software. Google is your friend. -

SamitHi Venu,
We can't add authorisation objects on Individual servers.We need to add authorisations on BWD ie Dev system and transport to BWI QUA system.This is the Process we need to follow as per our rule set.
So,As the problem mentioned above if i add some auth. objects on BWD DEV system and transport it to BWI QUA system,it is getting transported Successfully to BWI,but the auth.objects what i have added on BW DEV system is not found on BW QUA system.
What could be the problem for that,Is that the problem with transports like TP error or is it related with some tables of auth.objects...................
Could u please analyse the problem and tell me the solution for this..........
Thanks Much

Headerrenderer issue -Please help
Headerrenderer issue -Please help
hi
I have a datagrid and I am doing a custom sorting on the grid(by getting data from DB).
I achieve this by capturing the headerrelease event of datagrid .In thee venthandler I will query from DB and do event.preventdefault to prevent standard grid sorting.
Now I need to display my own custom ascending/descending arrows in the header.i have created an header renderer for this,
In the headerrenderer I am lsitening to the headerrelease event of datagrid and in the eventlistener, as per the sortfield, i am trying to make the sort arrow visible/invisible.
But somehow making the sort arrows visible/invisible is not working.The initial arrow works fine.it is shown the correct column(Name) as done in the init() method.
The eventhandler is invoked on clicking the column headers and all the alerts are shown.
Please see the headerrenderer code below and help me.(code is not complete only the relevant part is included)
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?><mx:HBox
xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" width="100%" height="100%" horizontalScrollPolicy="off" creationComplete="init()" implements="mx.controls.listClasses.IDropInListItemRenderer">
public function init():void{
headerLabel = dataField.label;
_dataGrid.addEventListener(DataGridEvent.HEADER_RELEASE,sortChanged,false);
if(_dataField.localeCompare('Name')==0)asc.visible=true; }
private function sortChanged(e:DataGridEvent){
var dg:DataGrid=e.currentTarget asDataGrid;
varcolumn:DataGridColumn = DataGridColumn(e.currentTarget.columns[e.columnIndex]);if(_dataField.localeCompare(e.dataField)==0)
if(asc.visible ||(!asc.visible&&!desc.visible))
Alert.show(
'in..');
asc.visible=false;
desc.visible=true;
else if(desc.visible){
asc.visible= true;
desc.visible=
false;
else{
asc.visible=
false;
desc.visible=
false;
]]>
</mx:Script>
<mx:Text text="{_headerLabel}" />
<mx:Image source="{ascIcon}" id='asc' visible="false">
<mx:Image source="{descIcon}" id='desc' visible="false"/>
</mx:HBox>I got the solution!!
i need to assign the headerrendereer to the columns dynamically inorder for this to work:
if anybody wants to know details of solution let me know -

GT72 - CONNECTIVITY ISSUES - PLEASE HELP!
Good Afternoon, I recently purchased an MSI GT72 2QD 216
I love the the laptop so far, but I am having 1 issue, I can't watch twitch streams. Everytime I try all I get is a sudden DROP in my connectivity
I usually am at a download speed of 50gbs+, whenever I start playing a video on twitch, or streaming pandora or even watching videos on youtube, I plumet to 3gbs (according to speedtest.net)
Is there something I need to do, or some setting I need to do to not have this? Its getting so bad I can't even watch anyone stream on twitch, meanwhile if I were to stream/play a game the connectivity isn't touched i'm perfectly fine.
p.s. I have also tried this on my older laptops and none of those have the problem. So its just on this laptop.
PLEASE HELP!Your laptop GT72 2Qx already supports 802.11b/g/n and 802.11a/c mode.
The MSI official driver will activate both modes (auto by default, you can check your WiFi card in Device Manager to see this).
So now it depends on the router you connected.
If your router also supports 802.11a/c, it should be able to establish two SSIDs at the same time, one is for 802.11b/g/n (2.4GHz) and another is for 802.11a/c (5GHz). The users can select one of them to connect under corresponding frequency.
Some older routers can only support 802.11b/g/n and establish only one SSID. Even if it supports 802.11a, you still need the privilege to access the router and switch it to run on 5GHz (requiring router rebooting). -
!!!Very Urgent-Production Issue -Please help
Hello IDMers,
We are facing an issue in production, we updated the AD Process form yesterday. Two fields- Employee Type and Employee ID field in AD User Process form got refreshed for all existing users. Those two fields are empty now for all users.
But these fields have appropriate value in the Xellerate User Table for all users. Now I need to some how populate the Employee Type and Employee ID field for all employees from User Table to AD Process form.
for example: Consider an Employee called Peter- His emp type is Full Time and Emp ID is 100; which i have it in OIM User Table, but this user is provisioned with AD and now i will have to update his AD Process form so that these two fields are populated. I need to do this for all users in OIM. I guess the prepop adapter triggers only when the form is created for the first time. Please suggest me some ideas.
Is there a easy way to do this task?
What my thinking is, I need to have a scheduled task that basically loops through all users and updates their employee type and id field in AD User Form from Xellerate User Table.
Please help me with this as it is highly important.
Thanks again every one for your support all the while.
Regards,
~VSNhey,
i was doing lots of migration from one OIM box to another during our last release. I guess something would have gone wrong while doing an import/export from one OIM system to another.
What I learned was while doing an import the vulnerable object is AD USER (or any resource of OIM) Object (both Process form and process definition), because those are the two objects which you need to import fully no matter how big a change you have done.
So when you do an import watch out for USER DEFINED FIELDS in the process form because for me the two fields which disappeared were user defined/custom created by me. So make sure you export the latest version;even if you didnt make any changes to them better create a new version copy of the form and then export it.
Hope that helps.

Drag and drop issue, please help.
I can no longer drag and drop photos within photoshop elements 12. When working with a layer, I want to move it to a layer within another existing file, and no longer have the option. The only way I have fixed the issue in the past is uninstall and reinstall the program. I've read other forum posts and followed the instructions by resetting preferences and it does not work.
Does anyone have any solutions to this issue? Please help!With both files open, simplest to tile them side by side, you should be able to drag the layer from the source file onto the target file. So long as it shows the 'grasping hand' you can release the mouse and it should add the layer to the target.
So what is happening now on your system? When you drag the layer to the target what icon is shown - 'grasping hand', 'no entry', something else?
Cheers,
Neale

Ipod says that files are being used by another application...please help!
My ipod lost all of my music but tells me that there is apparently still the same amount of memory used, i just can't access my music. To fix this, i'm trying to restore my ipod and just resync the music. However, every time i click restore i get the message "Itunes can not restore Ipod because it contains files in use by another application" even though there are no other applications running. I've ever tried restarting the computer to be sure that no applications are running. Please help!
I had the same issue with my new iPod 4gb nano. To be perfectly honest, I fixed it and I'm not exactly sure what part of the process actually did the job, so I'm going to attempt to explain it as best I can.
Basically I bought the nano to replace my 160gb classic aka paperweight. I'm currently deployed and the thought of traveling back to the US without a portable music player made me shudder. Within 4 days new nano click wheel decided to do the whole dying thing where I could click the buttons but not scroll through my music/change volume. I took the defunct iPod back to the BX and they exchanged it. I got home and discovered the "new" one they gave me was actually one that had been returned..because it popped up as "josh's ipod" when I plugged it in. So I'm on my third device and you can imagine when my computer informed me said device was corrupt and couldn't be read by my computer..I was pretty peeved. It took 7 or 8 tries to get the new nano update to install on my slow connection and when it finally did..I got the message that the files were in use by another application and couldn't be restored. I restarted the computer, made sure all other applications were shut down, checked my virus software. No dice. I ejected the ipod from my computer, plugged it back in and went into itunes preferences and clicked on "reset sync history". I think at this point it then treated the iPod as if it had never been plugged into my computer before. I then attempted the restore again, it did its thing and I now have a nice, new functioning iPod.
