Another bug found in the search function, please fix.
If I search for *.ISO on my computer, trying to find the Windows 7 iso's I downloaded, it reports back with.
05 - John Lennon - Isolation.mp3
(2)Isolation.scx
09 - Dido - Isobel.mp3
arial-iso-8859-1
(As well as the Windows 7 ISO files)
What is going on here?? Do the programmers of Windows search not know what a file extension is?

Mastering the new search is not for the faint of heart. I guess they tried to make it useful for....I don't know who they tried to make it useful for. I doubt it was programmers and yet those are the only people to whom it makes sense. And I guess if you are one, then the new search is indeed way more powerful if too complex and inefficient for simple file-searches.
There is no point in searching using old style wildcard syntax, returned results are rarely anything but irrelevant garbage. What you need to do, like it or not is to get on board because that train is leaving the station and ain't coming back.

I don't know why MS does not put a hot-link to that page somewhere within the Search-box or when you press F1 while in it, it would help tremendously and save people a lot of (unnecessary) aggravation.
To give a direct answer to the OP, your search should actually be ext:iso or file:*.iso. Then you would get your list of ISO files. Otherwise, "*.iso" returns all occurrences within ALL metadata properties, which can obviously be more than just the filename. The AQS is extensive and it is a lot to remember.
On the visuals, it would be nice of MS to let us add our own Quick Filter sets for speedy access instead of the only two Date Modified: and Size: (sure, whatever). I'd love to have a File: and Ext: there instead which would save me time by not having to type that in every time - maybe it can be hacked, I dunno.

In OS Yosemite the search function in Mail, Finder, Spotlight… does not work. Messages or documents with the search criteria are there and one could find them manually, but the search function fails to find them. Following advice from Apple Support (728965377):
1. I applied an Apple protocol for adware removal (Remove unwanted adware that displays pop-up ads and graphics on your Mac); I had none, because I had formally utilized a similar protocol that I had found in Internet, actually an app that implemented automatically Apple's adware removal protocol.
2. I rebuild the post boxes in Mail (Mail (Yosemite): Reconstruir buzones); It took a while but it functioned properly
3. I re-install the System (OS X Yosemite: Reinstalar OS X); It took about 4 hours but there was no problem whatsoever with the installation.
Afterwards I searched for messages in Mail, and documents in Finder and Spotlight, without any difficulty. The search function in all of them was working properly. But the next time that I needed to search messages or documents, an hour later or so, the problem reappear and a couple of new issues occurred:
1. in app RagTime 6.5.2 (Build 1821), www.ragtime.de, the menu bar disappears (it is invisible), when one performs certain operations, e. g., calculating a value with a formula, whether it is in a spreadsheet or some other component (text, drawing, etc.). After touching with the cursor the menu bar is visible again.
2. after reading an e-mail in Mail or copying an address, this is seeing as a floating object in the finder and over every application. There is no logical way to get rid of the floating object and neither copying or deleting or cutting it. It is not a big issue but nonetheless bothersome.
3. In Mail, messages with Flag or in VIP contacts cannot be seen in the appropriate folders, only in the Incoming mail folder, together with other messages. It seems to me, this issue is part of same search function problem.
4. The preview function within Mail does not show the attached documents to a message, whether it is in the IN, OUT or Draft boxes.Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try again to re-index Spotlight. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

After the most recent firefox update I lost the search function in hotmail
After the most recent upgrade for Firefox the search function in my Hotmail account no longer works. When I try to search through my email for a specific item, I get a message, "It looks like there's a problem with Windows Live Hotmail right now. It should be fixed soon, so please try again in a few minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Also, when I load up my Hotmail account it pretty much seems to take over my browser. If I follow a link from an email to another website, I will often be pulled back to Hotmail...with or without a "hang" and I will get the "Warning: Unresponsive Script" message. It appears to be related to the ad bar that runs on the right side of the Hotmail page. It gets worse if I have more than two tabs open.
I have a similar experience with Facebook. It will often pull me back if I go to another tab. The "Warning: Unresponsive Script" message will come up. often after a considerable "hang" delay. This also can happen if I am participating in a thread. Often, when I am typing it will hang, sometimes for several minutes before my cursor resumes functionality. Try to use the keyboard if the buttons on the web page aren't working.
* Copy: Ctrl+C or Ctrl+Insert

I personally and professionally rely on text messaging extensively. Since upgrade, the search function doesn't work correctly. It only returns partial results. This has never happened with previous upgrades. All the old texts are there but it does not search the entire history. If i compose new text and duplicate the recipients from an old text, it will bring up string...just cant search for it. PLEASE HELP SOMEONE.

The iPad cover lock is for when you use a cover with magnets in it to lock and unlock the iPad when you close the cover or open it. Try running a refrigerator magnet along the sides of the iPad and see if that trips the iPad Cover Lock back into the settings.
That is not the same thing as the iPad Auto Lock setting which allows you to set an allotted time before the iPad goes to sleep.
You can try resetting all settings to see if the Auto Lock feature retinrs to the iPad.
Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. This can be a little time consuming re-entering all of the device settings again. -
I go to LinkedIn and type in a name in the search box, for instance "Peter" and hit enter.
Normally, this will return with a list of people with the first name "Peter", listed according to degrees connectivity.
Instead the web site never loads the next page. It appears that it keeps loading the page over and over again, but with no result.
In the end I have to press back or use another browser (Safari) to load the page and use the search function.When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
1. Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Command+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server. Any difference? If not...
2. Clear Firefox's Cache Completely
Edit > Preferences > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
3. If needed, remove your linkedin.com cookies
While viewing a page on the site:
Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
Remove each cookie then try reloading the page. You probably will need to log in again. Does that help? -
Using the search function in PP CC
Using the search function in PP, can the newest software create a new bin with ALL clips the search finds, instead of just one-by-one? I know PP isn’t FCP7, but FCP has a simple function when searching... put in the search parameters, it searches, finds clips, and asks if you want to create a new bin with those clips. Click “yes” and all found clips appear in the new bin. Wonderful! So can the new PP now do this? I can’t seem to find out, so I’m asking the community. Thanks in advance for advice.

The search function in mail has virtually stopped working
What's going on???? I can no longer find anything using the search function in Apple Mail Version 5.2 (running on OS 10.7.4).
If I put in the name of someone I have exchenged maybe 500 emails with, it only finds one or two, or maybe none. The same with key words. And I can suddenly no longer search for partial email addresses (like @bankofamerica.com).
I tried rebuilding some of my bigger mail boxes, and a) it took a LONG time and b) it didn't help.
I have not made any chenges in my software, and a week ago I seemed to be searching just fine.
Any idea what might have happened and how to fix it?

Where is the search function in the iTunes store in this latest version?

Since downloading the latest version of iTunes, I cannot find the "search" function in the ITunes store, to search for apps, movies, etc. Can someone please tell me where this is now located? Frustrating and really hate this new version. Why did they change a perfectly decent product?

After installing iOS 7 camera stopped working normally. I can't take pictures with the back camera only the front camera. All was good before the update. Please fix this bug.

The troubleshooting steps for the camera on the iPad are similar to the iPhone: I've highlighted the pertinent steps below:

Camera
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Third-party cases can interfere with the autofocus/exposure feature and the flash; try removing the case if you have image-quality issues with photos.
Try turning the iPad off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try switching between the front and the back cameras to verify if the issue persists on both.

The search function and up next option on mini player has dissapeared?
I don't know what I've clicked, or maybe not touched anything but in the last few weeks the search function and up next playlist has disappeared on the mini player. I'm using OS Mavericks, anyone else having this problem or know what to do? Thanks
With the exception of the occasional Russian and German questions that appear here... If the manual is written in English, and the questions posted here are predominantly written in English, I'm not convinced that language is therefore the problem.
I think it kind of works like this... When newbs come here, they:
1) have no prior experience to realize how often a similar question's been posted
2a) aren't familiar with the "etiquette" of searching for similar questions befor posting
2b) aren't familiar the lameness of the search engine on this forum in order to even get answers; or, they've tried it and come up with years' worth of posts to sift through and quickly move to...
3) ...posting a question because they want a quick fix -- they're probably excited about getting up and running quickly with Logic
I have always had problems with the readability of the Logic manual, and I still find it difficult to comprehend because it's really poorly written (IMO). Most, sentences in, it read, like, this. And there's a wont of illustrations (pictures are worth...).
I think some questions are so basic that they don't behoove a response moreso than "spend some time with the manual first". Occasionally I've indulged a total newb (not to single anyone out). It's maybe 75/25 that I felt like I had actually made a difference to their understanding, the poor ratio due to the fact that they simply needed to read the manual first.
Yes, it's frustrating to see newb posts dominate for a while and push more serious questions to the bottom. The occasional OT post is OK, IMO, but what bugs me more is when they predominate.
BTW, can anyone recommend some good strings for a 3-string backpack-style dulcimer?

Using Firefox 5.0 with Windows 7 on a laptop, whenever I click the 'Group Tabs' icon to the right of my tabs, the search function immediately comes up over my grouped tabs, preventing me from using any of them. When the search function comes up, the screen goes semi-dark and the search bar appears - any text I type at this time is entered into the search bar (the search function works normally). If I click any section of the screen at this time the search function disappears and the screen regains color - but only for a fraction of a second, and then the search function comes up again, along with the darkened screen. Hitting 'escape' or 'backspace' produces the same effect. Is there any way to disable this unceasing search function?
This is something you need to report via the Feedback button (or use the link on the Help menu).
Firefox 5.0 is still in BETA and not slated for release until June 21.
Reinstall the full version of the current release which is v4.0.1, download link at the top of this forum. -
Tech support seemed to understand the question but had no answer. Why would an album with only one artist show the artist but an album with multiple artist not show any of them. The album art show various in iTunes. That makes sense but on my iPod I would expect to see all artists.
Wish I did. I tried the group function but that didn't help in iTunes. The search function is the best I came up with. I can answer the question do you have susch and such artist. But I can't browse for an artist I don't remember exactly or have misspelled. Fortunately I don't think I've bought anything from iTunes that i already had. If you can't see an artist it's possible you think you don't have something you actually do have. Sorry, still hoping for a better work around or better yet a fix.
