Another computer is sharing my IP address

I have tried the above advice of changing my iP address, running a networks troubleshooting. When I tried to go to the page to reset TCP/IP the computer just grinds but won't pull up the page.
My computer is running so slow and my yahoo email is sending out spam and malicious emails even tho I changed my password.
Ran a Microsoft Defender full scan and a Malwarebytes full scan and found nothing
My son who is home from college is appalled at how slow our internet has become and said he received the same message I did. Namely, that someone else is sharing our IP address.
We live in the country near no one so it's not a neighbor. Could our computers have been hijacked? Many times the courser is moving around as tho by itself.. Thanks

to get a new ip address you can go to start type cmd and open command prompt and type in:
ipconfig /release
this will release your current ip address
next type:
ipconfig /renew
this will get you a new ip in case you have conflicts with someone else on your own network. From time to time i would get that same message if my brother or any other household member takes my IP address due to not logging in for some time or whatever reason.
I would also advise that you just power cycle your router/modem. turn it off and then back on again. Sometimes they can glitch if left on for very long and if areas where they can overheat or get warm. I tend to reboot my wifi router once a week but its a
feature that comes with mine.
Next for your viruses, I would advise taking the laptop/desktop offline. What antivirus do you use? I would advise installing AVAST (www.avast.com) they have a free version. When its installed make sure to do a full scan and also a boot time scan (this will
scan while booting up) when installing i believe it'll ask you if you want to run a boot-time scan please do so. Also make sure your malwarebytes is full updated before scanning again. these two should get rid of your problem if its not full infested. in which
case i would recommend a fresh reinstallation of the operating system.
I hope this helps.

My email address has changed and when I try to play purchased songs it asks me to authorize another computer under the old email address.  How do I play the music that I have purchased?  My account is current with the new email address.

You may have already done this, but try de-authorizing your computer (through the iTunes:Store menu) and then re-authorizing it.

    Hey there Toni D.,
I suggest the troubleshooting outlined in this article here:
Wi-Fi: How to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628?viewlocale=en_US
Does the symptom occur with more than one Wi-Fi device?
Wi-Fi issues may be related to the network in question or they may be related to the Wi-Fi computer joining that network. Usually, if other computers or devices (such as the Apple TV or iPhone) are able to get on the Internet without issues, then your Wi-Fi router is probably fine.
If you only have one Wi-Fi device, proceed with this article.
Make sure your software is up-to-date.
Install all software updates available for your Mac.
If you use a third-party Wi-Fi router, check with the manufacturer to confirm that it has the latest firmware installed. If an update is available, follow the manufacturer's instructions for updating the firmware.
To determine if your Apple Wi-Fi base station firmware is up-to-date, see Updating your software.
    Check your connections.
Some networking issues may be caused by loose or disconnected cables. Verify that all Ethernet and power cables connected between your modem and your Wi-Fi router are correct. Checking that devices such as your router and modem are on, disconnecting and carefully reconnecting Ethernet cables, and/or replacing damaged Ethernet cables may resolve the issue without any further troubleshooting.
Verify that you are using the recommended settings for your device.See Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points.
Restart your network devices.Powering your modem or router off for a few seconds and then on again may resolve network issues without any additional troubleshooting. If you have phone service through your ISP, power cycling your modem may interrupt that service. You may need to contact your ISP in order to restore your phone service if your modem is reset or powered off. Ensure that you have alternative means to contact your ISP (such as a cell phone) to avoid unnecessary delays in restoring your Internet or phone service
And if this does not get the network connection going again I would use the troubleshooting from down the bottom in the section labeled Symptom: My Mac does not connect to the Internet.
    Take care,
    Sterling

  • HT2433 what does the error message that says " You are logged out because another computer is using this IP address." mean?

what does the error message that says " You are logged out because another computer is using this IP address." mean?

Some other piece of network ghardware on your home LAN (Local Area Network) is using the IP address your Mac is trying to use.
Reboot both your modem and router, or the Modem/Router combo box you have, and all pieces of networking equipment, computers and printers, you have connected to your LAN.
If you continue to get that error then it is a bug in OS X or you have your Mac set to a Static IP address that is being handed out by the routers DHCP server to some other device.

  • Warning that another computer is using my ip address

What do I do if I receive a warning that another device is using my ip address on the macbook air?

Simple solution would be to renew your IP address and you might get issued a new (different) one.
However, in some scenarios this will not work as the conflicting machine could have that address statically assigned and the dhcp server could have no idea of this.
Does this happen at your home? school? work? If its at home, check all the other devices on your network and check to see if any of them have a static. If at school or work contact the network admin and let them know - personally I'd be a little upset if someone was using an unauthorized static on a network I was responsible for.

  • I got a notice saying that another computer is using my ip address

I'm not sure what this means, or what consequences it could have.  Also recently our internet usage also spiked- and we've not changed our internet habits, could this have something to do with it? I have no idea about any of this kind of thing, should I be worried?

Where did this notice come from?

  • Another computer using IP address -again

    Hi,
I have had to reset my network due to electrical work being done on the house. I am using an AirPort Extreme 802.11n 3rd gen at the base and a second AirPort Extreme 802.11n 5th gen to extend the range of the network.
When I called my service provider, Bell, they had me enter an IP address to establish the modem connection. I entered it on my laptop and not the the main computer (iMac) which is the one the network was initially set up with.
After that, with apple support, I was able to set up a new network using an AirPort Extreme 802.11n 3rd gen at the base and a second AirPort Extreme 802.11n 5th gen to extend the range of the network. Since then when I would use the iMac I was told 'another computer is using same IP address'. sometimes the internet would still connect. Sometimes when I would use my laptop I got the same message. None of the other computers or iPads have been affected.
After connecting the iMac directly to the base AP Extreme by ethernet and then disconnecting the ethernet net and restarting the computer, the iMac connects with the network. right now the iMac IP is 192.168.2.11.
While sitting in the same room as the Extreme base station I was able to go online with my laptop -macbook pro- and the IP address was 192.168.2.24
I then closed the cover on the laptop and went into another room about 15 ft away and I was unable to go online when the computer awoke as 'another computer is using same IP address' and my IP address on the laptop had changed to 192.168.2.13.
I restarted the same laptop and when it opened the first message was 'another computer is using same IP address' 192.168.2.13
When I went to apple support this time I was told that I would have to pay for support as opposed to my call of last week. That is why I have not called them yet. Hopefully someone can help me get things back to normal.
    Thanks in advance
    Kim

the Router Mode : Off (Bridge Mode)
    Thanks for the checking that.
This setting confirms that it is your Bell modem/router that is in charge of providing IP addresses for every device on your network.
In Bridge Mode, the AirPort Extreme might be providing a wireless network signal, but it does nothing active as far as providing IP addresses to devices on the netowrk. The AirPort Extreme simply passes through the IP address settings that it receives from the Bell modem/router.
For some reason, the Bell modem/router is having problems keeping track of the IP addresses that it is assigning to devices on the network. I cannot say why.
Sometimes, an issue like this will go away if you power off the entire network....in any order that you want. Wait a minute, then start the Bell modem/router and let it run a full minute by itself. Start the AirPort Extreme next the same way. Keep starting other devices one at a time about a minute apart until the entire network is up and running.
This simple reset will give the Bell modem/router a fresh start to get things straightened out. If you continue to see the same problems, then you have to go to the cause of the problem..the Bell modem/router. Perhaps a replacement may be required.
If you need to call your Internet Service Provider, you now have the information that you need. Unfortunately, ISPs tend to try to find a way to place the blame on any problem on any product other than their own, so you might expect to hear some creative things from them.

  • IP address used by another computer

New to iMac. Keep getting msg that says IP address is being used by another computer. Have read Mr. Bob Timmons posts.  His post are very helpful.  So far, still haven't been able to solve on my own.  I have an AT&T combo modem/router configured to operate as modem only.  This is connected to AEBS.  Old windows machine connected to one of the AEBS ports. Wireless devices are, ipad, iphone, itouch, apple TV, iMac, and printer.
Airport settings are; connect using ethernet; connection sharing off; using DHCP; wireless mode- create a wireless network; wireless security, WPA2 Personal; MAC address access control, not enabled
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Unfortunately, this information confirms that the 2-Wire device is not configured as a "bridge only" modem...which it needs to be.
If it were, you would not even be able to Connect Using = Ethernet on the AirPort Extreme.
Instead, your only way to connect would be to Connect Using = PPPoE on the AirPort Extreme.
But, your second post confirms that it is the 2-Wire device that is supplying the PPPoE service. This again confirms that it is not acting as a bridge mode modem.
Sorry, I don't have a 2-Wire gateway here to try to see if it can even be configured as a bridge modem, but having worked with a number of users on similar subjects in the past with 2-Wire products, I doubt that it can be configured this way....despite what the 2-Wire support folks might say. I think it is likely that the version of the 2-Wire that AT&T offers has limited functionality.
Your best option might be to configure the 2-Wire normally as a gateway device and then configure the AirPort to Connect Using = Ethernet and configure the setting for Connection Sharing to "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Or, perhaps you want to explore the possibilities on the 2-Wire further?

  • In ITunes when I'm using home sharing if I play the songs on another computer it cuts the songs off maybe 10 seconds plus from the end why is it doing this?

So I have ITunes Home Sharing on my desktop computer on.  When I go to another computer and play the songs from the Home Share computer the songs get cut off maybe 10 seconds + at the end of the song.  In other words it will not play the last 10 seconds of the song sometimes it's last 5 seconds sometimes its the last 15 seconds it seems to vary.  I can't really find a pattern on the timing but I just don't understand why this is happening please help!

Delete and redownload them if doing so is free in your country.

  • HT3819 Can I transfer music from one computer to another via home sharing?

Can I transfer my music from one computer to another via home sharing?

So long as they are on the same wifi network, yes.
Have both computers running and have iTunes open on both computers.
Now, in the iTunes on the computer you want to transfer music to, select the library that you want to transfer music from, as per the following screenshot:
Once the other library loads, go down to the bottom of the screen and in "Show:" select "Items not in my library":
If you want to import all of the songs you can now see, head up to the iTunes menu bar and go "Edit > Select all". Then head down to the bottom of the screen again and click the "Import" button in the bottom-right-hand corner.
If there's a lot of stuff in the library you're transferring from, the transfer may take some time.

  • HT3819 I can use remote on my iPhone to connect with my iTunes library, but i can't connect to another computer using home sharing to access apple tv.  I have used the same access ID and password that is used for the apple tv.

I can use the Remote app on my iphone to connect with my itunes library on my computer, but I can't connect to the Apple TV using home sharing with another computer in the house.  I am using the same ID and password that the apple tv uses to connect with the other computer.  Also how do I check what version of IOS that my iphone is using?

    Version:
iOS Settings>General About (or it'll say when you hook it up to iTunes)
Are all the devices on the same physical network?  I think you're saying all are set up using the same home sharing credentials.
If you've not done so restart all devices and your router.
If you can get any of the devices connected by ethernet to reduce the wifi burden that may help but to be honest I would not expect simply beoing on wifi to prevent devices/computers appearing in the list.
Does the other computer have any firewall or port blocking software running?

  • TS2972 How do I use home sharing to move a movie to another computer

I am trying to move my digital copy of The hunger games to another computer through home sharing is this posssible?

The short answer: because Home Sharing isn't designed for sharing apps, and apps aren't designed to be shared.
The longer answer:  Think of it like this...
You download some music in iTunes.  With Home Sharing, another user can listen to it by streaming it over the network.  But the data itself is on your computer.  If you turn off the computer or take it off the network, the other user can't access it.
But if you send another user the app, they aren't just streaming the data- they installed it on their iOS device.  Because they weren't the one that purchased it, such a transfer could easily be considered "piracy" or "stealing," and nobody likes that (least of all, Apple).
When iTunes sees this app, it obviously recognized it, as if saying, "Hey, how did you get this app on your device, if I have no record of you purchasing/downloading it from the iTunes store?"

  • Can I use home sharing to watch a rented movie on itunes on another computer

can I use home sharing to watch a rented movie on itunes on another computer (I already have home sharing with other computers set up, but I don't see it.)?

Please be aware of the movie rental's time limitation that you have 30 days from the time of rental to watch your movie, and once you start watching it, you have 24 hours to finish watching it. You may watch it as many times as you like during those 24 hours. It may be helpful to make sure the download completes successfully before you begin watching the movie.
Once the download is complete you can watch it without an Internet connection. However, an Internet connection to the iTunes Store is required to authorize playback or activate the 24 hours time-limit of movie rentals. This means, only during the starting of the movie. Once you have started playing the movie rental, internet connection is not required. You can play anywhere without internet connection.
You may need to validate the rental prior to watching so it starts the rental period timer and for that you will need an internet connection. You can probably do that by starting the rented movie while on the Airport Wifi or right before leaving home. You'll have 24 hours to watch the movie after you start it.
For more information on movie rentals, you can visit:
iTunes Store: Movie rental frequently asked questions (FAQ)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1657
Note: 24 hours time limit is for United States customer only, while 48 hours for other countries.

  • HT4527 The computer that has my i Tunes library has crashed, How do I turn off Home Sharing on this computer and tranfer my files to another computer?

How do i turn off home sharing and transfer my ITunes library to another computer?

Your music will only be where you put it.  You can download the itunes program and sign into your account on any computer, but your music/content will not be there unless you put it there.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer files/docs/pics/music/etc.
Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to maintain a backup copy, not good, then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod.  File>Transfer Purchases
