Another CS4 bug?

Hey, I'm wondering if anyone else is having this issue...
I will be in design workspace adding some components to a
form, then I switch to developer workspace to add the code. Then
when I need to go back to design, all the workspace options are
grayed out.
This does not happen immediately after I switch, sometimes I
can switch 3 or 4 times with no problems, but it always happens at
some point.
This then causes me to open designer panels on my developer
workspace...something workspaces were meant to avoid.
Any help?

This is horrible... I was waiting for Flash CS4 as a miracle,
but I must turn back to cs3. Or use Eclipse to develop AIR
applications. I just write a simple AIR application and wanted to
draw an Exit button. All the time I getting spammed with "Multiple
constructor definitions found. Constructor may not be defined in
<Script/> code." and my mc disappear.
I read that adt.exe not exits and some Animator workspace
causes the problem, but it is just workaround and there is no
solution. It is unusable and disappointig.
I thought that AIR 1.5 and Flash updates solves this problem
but isn't.
I just wondering what takes so long. I payed 236 USD to
upgrade my CS3 product but it seems that wasn't a very good choice.

BT Cloud, another curious bug

Another curious bug to add the the BT Cloud chamber of horrors.
BT Cloud somehow decided on the Web Interface that my main device contained two separate top levels, 'D' and 'd'.
Most things I had backed up from my D drive showed up under 'D', with just a few under 'd'.
On the PC client, everything showed up under 'd'.
The extra 'd' was a bit irritating on the web interface, and none of the files saved in it was significant, and so I decided to delete it in the web interface.
Result:
1: 'd' correctly deleted in the web interface (they seem to have fixed the bug where you couldn't delete folders in the web interface)
2: 'd' deleted from what shows up in the PC client. As the PC client never showed anything under 'D' but everything under 'd', when I look at my main device it now shows 'This folder does not contain any files.'
3: All the files still showing up correctly under 'D' on the web interface
4: PC client still knows what it is trying to back up from the D drive:
- the auto-backup folders show up correctly when I look in 'Add to Backup' (usability bug: 'Add to Backup' doesn't admit to what path it thinks they are from)
- it correctly backs up new files added to these auto-backup folders
- it still knows about the backed up files if I look under 'All Files'; and remembers correctly what directory they came from. (usability bug: but not easy for the user to see what directory they came from)
5: No files actually deleted from my PC.
I don't trust BT Cloud at all yet, so I am only experimenting and waiting till it is ready as a backup solution. Meanwhile, all my files are backed up elsewhere. I didn't trust BT Cloud not to make an even bigger silly and delete lots of my original files; I trust it even slightly less now.
BT Cloud still has the makings of something that might be useful eventually, so I still keep hoping and trying ....

CS4 bugs that remain or are new since CS3

So far CS4 is proving less of an investment and more of a frustration.
NEW BUGS
1) The package function no longer works for me, it saves links that are PDFs but none of my TIF file links. Similarly, the new "copy link(s)" command in the LINKS palette fails in the same way.
2) When swapping between programs, I can no longer click on an Indesign window to open it if I was in another program, only clicking the very top of the window works now.
3) If I am working with a text box, and I make the text box too small to fit the text in, I can not double or triple click the text to select it and I can not choose "select all" to select the text, now all objects are selected.
OLD BUGS
1) Indesign and Illustrator both fail to quit when I restart causing me to "Force Quit". This problem has persisted since CS3.
Has anything improved? It just seems to have gotten slower. So far, this is a huge disappointment. The program crashes just as much - if not more.

One trick that sometimes works for me when there is a file that causes indd to crash is to copy all the objects on a page (note the X,Y coordinates) and paste them into a new document. I would also try converting the table into text while in CS3 in case it is the table that is causing the bug.
It is usually one object on the page that is causing all the grief. If it still crashes, try copying half of all the objects on a page into a new document, and see if it crashes, then try copying the other half of all the objects, that way you can weed out which object is causing the problem.
Rather than do a reinstall of my OSX and CS4, I'm just limping along with the problems. I don't notice them any more except for having to force quit. Sometimes the programs will actually quit when I ask them to but it can take several minutes. To restart my machine, it takes over 5 minutes to quit out of indd, illustrator, photoshop, acrobat and dreamweaver.

Illustrator CS4 bug?

I don't know if this is a bug or what but I find it quite annoying: Illustrator CS4 sometimes slightly (1 or 2 'millipixels') changes the size or location of my artwork without any reason. Examples:
- I save using the .ai format. When I open that file later, the artwork is not centered anymore. Instead of being centered at 512x512 (I often use a 1024x1024 artboard), it is like 511.999x512.
- I move an object. Same problem, its size has slightly changed.
- Just happened, that's why I'm posting this: I have a 176.724x176.724 px object selected. I'm resizing it to 510 px using the bar at the top, with 'constrain proportions' enabled (the little chain symbol). So after resizing it should be 510x510, no? Well, no... it is 510x509.999 (or 509.998 I can't remember).
Am I doing something wrong or is it just a bug?
[edit: I forgot another thing that might be related: cutting and pasting an object doesn't center it to the artboard. It's close, but not at the center.]

Not sure what's going on with the first part of your question--the units in AI.
But as far as copy/paste or cut/paste is concerned AI never centered a pasted object on the page, even before multiple artboards were introduced in CS4. The thing that it could do was "paste in place" which would put the pasted object directly on top of the original area that it was copied or cut from.

A lot of CS4 bugs I need help with....

The list of bugs I am about to post that are ongoing issues with my CS4... I have tried searching for solutions but to no avail...
Corrupt frames Sometimes for no reason, a frame in the timeline will corrupt. everytime you 'scrub' or try to edit a certain frame it crashes. even if you restart flash, open the fle again, without fail that frame will cause it to crash. meaning you
have to back step and get rid of the offending frame. and start again. I knows so many people that ths has happened to. resulting n drasticlly closely missing deadlines.
Ghost frames: It will, for me, CONSTANTLY leave ghost frames. a solid 'onion' frame as if you have accidentally copied and pasted a previous frame
over the top, there is no way of getting rid of it unless you leave the symbol and re-renter, but it will shortly return.it's a solid image that doesnt move, you just can't see what you're doing.
The onion skin often refuses to work also. - I worked out for myself this was a problem with other layers being locked below it. which is ridiculous. I can work around this but it still shouldn't happen.
Deleting fills: When I move shapes with more than one fill, it will often delete a fill, or fill some in a different colour. If I am drawing with the brush tool it sometimes will delete other sections I have drawn with the same tool.
Not to mention the thousands of times it will crash unexpectedly. and I mean this happens a LOT.
These all happen with no correlation to previous things I have done.
I'm a professional animator and I'm sure everyone has heard this all the time but I think it's very important. I rely on Flash as my main piece of software. As a freelancer affording software (as everyone knows) is VERY difficult so when you shell out the thousands, you expect to be given
good quality software that you can rely on. I can't afford an upgrade right now. and certainly don't want to upgrade purely because Adobe has decided to issue a faulty product.
I am close to missing deadlines because of the bugs. I have downloaded EVERY update hoping they will fix this stuff but it doesn't. CS3 was mainly fine, why is this so bad? I really think they should offer a free upgrade to CS5 for people with CS4 issues. I am reduced to tears with stress when working on projects that are corrupting and crashing for no apparent reason. If you bought any other peice of equipment that was faulty you wouldn't be expected to pay for one that works.
Anyone know of any answers to any of the above bugs? MAINLY avoiding the corrupt frame problem?

iWork is probably not the best way to keep track of photos if you want to have clickable thumbnails and links to full size images. I say that only because I once had such an idea and after playing with it for some time I reverted to using the tools in iPhoto; Events, People, Keywords, etc.
As an adjunct to iPhoto or Aperture to reference events and photos it might be useful to keep track of photo shoot sessions in Numbers. What types of information are you seeking to track?

CS4 bug: Rectangle Marque Tool unwanted off-set

I feel like there are a lot of annoying bugs in CS4. The latest and greatest bug is with the Rectangle Marquee Tool (Selection Tool). When the tool is selected from the tool bar I get the cross-hairs/bar cursor icon, which is totally fine... instead of drawing the axis point from the very center of the cursor, it's off-set to the bottom of the cursor icon. In other words, It will always be 10-20 px off from where I actually want to make my selection...
May not be a big deal to most people, but when you're trying to select small pieces and move them, this should be accurate.
I dump my preference files, toggle workspaces. It's a temporary fix, is anyone else noticing this?

Yep, Ann has the band-aid solution. Unfortunately, it won't cure the disease but it does work to quickly get rid of the symptom.
You might also see this annoying behavior with other tools like offset brush cursors and the path tool. Same (temporary) fix - hit F a couple of times.

Well 2.0.1 is out and i was hoping for a fix for the second monitor color profile bug ... but no, not yet.
But guess what .. i think i have found another little treat.
Ok here we go, click on the Exposure, Recovery or Black Point sliders (but don't move them), notice anything?
On my system as soon as you click, the shadows block up. Take your finger of the button and they shadows go back to normal.
Next .. click and slide, when the button is down... blocked shadows again, release the button and shadows open up.
This also happens in the White balance panel.
Also we still have the tint slider problem, click it and it jumps the tint.
The exposure and white balance problem only happens in full screen mode.
It happens on my second monitor when running in mirror or alternate (or any other of the settings)
If i press the F key and go full screen on my macbook pro, the same thing happens on the macbook's screen.
Press the Z key to zoom to 100% and the problem goes away on either screen.
But get this ..... click any of the sliders in the Enhance panel before going to the Exposure panel (you don't have to move them), then go back to the exposure panel and...EVERYTHING FINE.....whaaaaaaat.
So now i have a second monitor with dodgy colors and an exposure panel glitch.
Thought this was an update!!!
Anyone else got this problem?
Oh, just to add, i have deleted pref files, deleted aperture altogether, re-installed 2.0 and 2.0.1, rebuilt library, tried on another library...all with no joy.

Another Minor Bug in SQLDev

I discovered another minor irritant in sqlDeveloper.
Steps to recreate the bug:
1) Create table t ( n1 number); (table created)
2) insert into t values (1); Commit; (Record Committed)
3) Goto Explorer on the left pane and click on the table to view the table t on the right (table will be displayed with a single column); Click on the data tab to view the data.
4) Alter table t add (n2 binary_float); (Table modified)
5) insert into t values (10, 10); Commit; (record committed)
6) click on refresh button to view the data.
You would expect to see two columns and two rows of record. But you would see only one column and two rows of data.
7) click on columns tab and click on the refresh button. (Two columns are displayed).
8) now go back to data tab; you would still see only ONE column and two records. Clicking on refresh does not display two columns
Only alternative is to close the tab and click on the table t again. You can now view the records with two columns

I am having a similar problem in 2.1.063.10. When I put in a filter I need to use the enter key and not the refresh button. Nothing happens to the data grid when I hit refresh button. When I enter a filter that causes no data to display, then blank out the filter and hit the refresh button, no data is displayed in the grid. Then I hit enter and the data grid is refreshed.

IMovie 09 voiceovers silent - another iMovie09 bug

Hello,
in addition to all the iMovie bugs reported, I now observe from time to time, that iMovie changes volume of the latest voiceovers on its own. I did the following:
1. I changed some things in my iMovie project. Especially I added some voiceovers.
2. I closed iMovie
3. I made a backup copy to another drive
4. I re-opened iMovie again
Result: Some voiceovers are randomly very very silent and the volume an not be changed anymore.
5. I check my backup copy on another Mac: Same result.
What happened? Who can support me?
Apple works always on new fancy stuff, but seems to forget the simple things.

Sorry to post again, but I can't find any other post about this problem. Have you found a solution for this. I have the same problem. Can't change the volume of voiceovers in some projects...... but had no problem doing it before.

Flash CS4 Bug saving to external drive?

I discovered last week when teaching my Flash class that in saving FLAs to my USB drive, and THEN testing/publishing, the AS3 code was ignored in the resulting SWF?EXE files. I duplicated the situation with multiple computers, mutliple external drives and multiple FLA files. I even tried it at differnt locations (home and campus). The problem is only related to CS4 with Actionscipt 3. Both CS3/AS3 and CS4/AS2 test/compile as one would expect. Save the CS4/AS3 file to the internal C: drive and then test/publish everything works fine. Go figure! WHy would the save location make any difference? I thought perhaps it was a PATH environment variable issue, but putting the external drive path in the PATH statement caused no effect.
Here's the information I'm providing to my class tonight. Anyone else encountering the same? BTW, I upgraded to release 10.0.2 but to no avail.
THE PROBLEM:
I think I discovered a pretty major bug in Flash CS4. When creating an ActionScript 3 file (with scripts written on the timeline) and saving the FLA source to an external drive (such as a USB thumb drive) and then testing (Control > Test Movie) or publishing (File > Publish), the AS3 code is ignored in the resulting SWF or EXE. If you save the file to the C: drive and then test/publish, it works fine. I tried this on several computers with several different FLA files and differing script, with several devices including a network drive – all with the same result.
I posted the problem to the ActionScript forum at adobe.com and contacted tech support (via email) but have yet to receive any useful feedback.
SOLUTIONS:
OPTION 1: Save your FLA to the hard drive before testing. You can create a temporary folder on the desktop of the campus computers or should have access to C:\TEMP. So save your files there and at the end of you session, be sure to copy the files (both the FLA and any published files) to your USB for safekeeping. When updating your FLA, first copy it to the internal C: hard drive, then make changes and test, etc.
OPTION 2: AS3 code written to an external .AS file does work when compiled. But this really is beyond the scope of this class and adds a lot of complexity.
OPTION 3: Use Flash CS3 – works fine in CS3, but of course you can’t use any of the cool new CS4 features such as new motion tweening, and inverse kinematics (IK bone structures).

CS4 bug - trouble with looping symbols

I really really need help with this. I am in the middle of a job and although this has happened many times before this is happening with more regularity recently.
When I simply select a symbol in CS4 and change the looping from 'loop' to 'single frame' or 'play once' it will sometimes change the symbols colour and give it a transparency (as if you have changed the alpha and tint of that symbol). I cannot get around this and if it happens and I haven't noticed it ruins that bit of animation and I have to delete it all.
if I go into the symbol the colours are restored but as soon as I leave it again it reverts to some kind of neon translucent version.
I am so desperate for help, it happens on other computers and with other files.
This is always a totally unreliable programme it has given me such stress!

Bumping this isn't going to gain it any attention... it will actually reduce your chances because postings with replies tend to be skipped over in favor of those with 0 replies. In any case, you are not likely to find anyone from Adobe waiting to hear from you here since these are user-to-user forums and are not monitored by Adobe. You might get lucky and have the one employee that sometimes visits catch your posting, but don't cross your fingers.

Though it sounds more like something that might be an installation or system-related problem specific to you since it hasn't come up here before as far as I can remember. And since you seem to only have posts regarding issues with using the program, it looks more like the problem is probably something in the installation and not the program's design.

Another keyboard bug

Hi,
While the "dead key" bug is still not fixed in LR2 (although already
reported in LR 1 and LR2 beta), there's another problem with the Tab
key.
I use the Alt-Tab combo under Windows to switch from an application to
another. If I use Alt-Tab to switch from LR to another app, LR ignores
the Alt key - which is currently depressed - and just see the Tab key,
and therefore it modifies the user interface layout accordingly (as if I
had hit the Tab key only) just before Windows switches to the other
application I have selected. Irritating.
It's another sign that LR installs its own keyboard handler, which is
far from being perfect (at least under Windows).
But the "dead key" bug is from far more annoying and I don't understand
why they are unable to fix this - but well, it's just affecting those
not having a US keyboard layout, so maybe it's not a problem for Adobe?
We are just paying more for less quality :-( .

PS: For those who are not aware of it: The "dead key" bug makes
impossible to enter any character that requires a dead key to be
produced. For example, to enter " ê " on a french keyboard, you need to
hit " ^ " and then " e ". In LR, this yields " ^^e " instead of " ê ".
Same problem with other european keyboard layouts and other special
characters. So you have to use the old Alt + Code trick in order to
enter those characters (and you also have to remember these codes - very
modern UI, indeed).
I find surprising that a software that has reached this high level of
quality is still suffering from such a stupid bug that has been reported
since a very long time.

CS4 bug - Selection tool yields random boxes

Anyone else experiencing this bug in CS4 - when starting a new selection (Marquee Tool), random sized boxes will appear BEFORE dragging and releasing the mouse button to define a selection. The boxes will often extend from the first mouse click to an image edge, but it's unpredictable. I need to release the mouse button, deselect (left click), and then start over again. Once this behavior begins, it can recur repeatedly, making marquee selections VERY frustrating. I have to shut down Photoshop and restart, but eventually the bug will return (typically after 10-20 minutes of use).
This same "random selection" can occur with other tools, such as Zoom (a single mouse click will zoom to a random magnification, just as if I made a selection).
My video driver is current (Nvidia 8600GT, OpenGL compatible), and I've swapped the mouse (and associated driver) with no improvement. I'm running Vista (32-bit) on a fairly new PC (9 months old) with 4GB RAM and fast (RAID0) drives. Photoshop CS3 (from which I upgraded to CS4 but left installed) doesn't exhibit this bug. (BTW, I'm an experienced Photoshop user, going all the way back to PS 3.0)

This bug has been driving me nuts for the past year. Clicking on the canvas with the selection/move tool will cause the active layer to randomly move somewhere else. When transforming an object or moving it, the current layer will jump sometimes a small amount but sometimes a couple thousand pixels off the canvas. It seems to happen more often after the computer wakes from sleep. I've seen this on two different laptops and a desktop. Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7. Logitech and microsoft mice. Wired and wireless mice. Nvidia and ATI video cards. HP and Dell computers.
It doesn't seem to be an issue with any particular hardware-- just bad coding on Adobe's part. The only way to fix the issue is to close down photoshop and restart-- this is killing my workflow. Please fix this Adobe!

Solo Track : another weird bug ?

Year after year, I find more and more annoying bugs in Logic Pro. This time it's the Solo Track button that act weird :
Take track with regions.
Activate the Solo button on that track.
Move a region from another track (that is not in Solo) to the Solo'ed track : this region WON'T BE PLAYED !!!
You NEED to un-Solo and re-Solo the track in order to include the new region...

I think I figured this one out. If you are soloing the regions, and you move a region that isn't soloed onto the track, that region will not become soloed. If you solo the track without any regions selected, then when you move a region from an unsoloed track, it activates....
I think. Don't have Logic in front of me right now to test.

Another Scrabble Bug

When the iPod is connected to an external speaker, For example, a Bose external amplifier/speaker for the iPod, switching music "off" actually turns the music off. This is good.
Um, not so with EA Scrabble for the iPod. When it plays its (annoying) background sounds, and one selects "off", it says, "uh uh, let me annoy you more fully" and turns the music back on.

I think i've found another bug with setBundledExceptionMode(true), this time regarding dates.
If you are using the oracle.jbo.format.DefaultDateFormatter then even with setBundledExceptionMode(true), a java.text.ParseException gets thrown IMMEDIATELY if the inputed date format is incorrect.
I got around this problem by subclassing oracle.jbo.format.DefaultDateFormatter and catching the java.text.ParseExceptionThis is not a DATE only issue. Formatting service as a whole currently sits outside of Bc4J runtime apis and thus "does not" honor Bc4J settings like exception mode etc.
JSPs need to "wrap" such exceptions and honor bundling of exceptions by going thru' the rest of the attributes. I'd log a bug for JSP code=gen for this.
