Another DRM Activator (error) question...

Hello gang,
I've got a user on a brand new machine this morning after the old one died abruptly.
We were able to obtain her ONE Adobe D/E document and just a handful of others docs from her old machine (not accessible any longer). But she only had this one Adobe Digital Editions file....... and now she cannot open it.....
We've installed Adobe D/E's latest (as of 2 hours ago) and are having one helluva time opening HER document citing the following error below....
The Meat Buyers Guide.PDF
Adobe DRM Error
System: 7
State: 4
Class: 15
Code: 57
Message: Error on request or response from server.
Please check your network connection and try again.
Scroll below or view error.log for more details.
Your Adobe software could not be activated.
The Adobe DRM Activator is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.

First it mentions not being available. But I can successfully launch http://adeactivate.adobe.com/  I grabbed from an Adobe KB, plus Library > Authorize Computer says she's OK (can't think of msg exactly, but it wasn't an error).
Suggestions???

Unfortunately that file is no longer recoverable.  That error code indicates that the file was encrypted using an ACS3 server.  Until Dec 15th 2009, it was possible to migrate ACS3 protected content using Adobe Digital Editions (1.5 or above - basically the past year and half), however on Dec 15th the Activation server for the ACS3 server was taken offline.  (see http://www.adobe.com/products/contentserver/migrate.html for details )
While this does not affect the ability to read content on a currently working machine, if that machine dies (as is the case for this user) you will no longer be able to read the content.
If the user thinks that they did migrate the file (by opening it up in ADE post 1.5) then make sure you are getting the correct copy of the file from the 'My Digital Editions' (it'll differ from the original by having the information needed to open it up in ADE now, added at the bottom of the file ).

The knowledge base states that Adobe is aware of this issue and I have to contact support.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the program a couple of times but I had the same error message.
I have open two open web cases (#0180655783 on 1/8/09 and #0201592044 on 12/22/09). They both state: "open pending response from Adobe", but I can't get a response (although my case do note that they have been updated???).
When I contacted Adobe via phone they informed me that I could only get assistance by opening a web case. I was assured that I would get a response within 24 Hours! What a bunch of crap!
I really have to have access to my ebooks. I have quite a lot of money invested in books that I cannot access. Some of them I need
    for school.

well I'm guessing this isn't a question about Adobe Digital Editions 1.5.. I'm guessing your using some older version of Acrobat Reader, yes?
Please post your ebook reader version, and also do you happen to have a Palm device?

  • Adobe DRM Activator error (client code 31); HTTP code 404. Fault location: 15

    dear all,
a few years ago I installed and configured Adobe Digital Editions. I bought some ebooks as well. Meanwhile I have switched my computer. And today I discovered my ebooks. I clicked on them and the system tells me that I have to install ADE and to activate the computer. So I successfully downloaded ADE installed it and activeated it.
ADE immediately shows me all the books I bought years ago. Then I clicked on the books I wanted to read. A window popped up which told me that the book is no more available - due to a changed path. I found no possibility to change an existing ADE configuration.
I opened ADE and added a book I bought by opening the option to add a file and openend the ebook on its new location. The ebook was loaded, authorized and I could read it. Clever - I thought. Thats the way to clean up my library. First lets delete all the ebooks in the library with the broken location. Afterwards lets add it via the option to add ebooks. Thats what I did. I deleted all the ebooks first. Afterwards I wanted to add all the books like I already did it with the first one. But - I no more could do that!
    This is what I get:
Your Adobe software could not be activated. HTTP error on Adobe DRM  Activator request. Adobe DRM Activator error (client code 31); HTTP code  404. Fault location: 15
Does this mean that ADE server does no more authorize my bought ebooks after I had deleted the broken-link-ones from my library?
I hope not ! - This would be awfull - all my books would be gone !!
I hope someone could follow my problem description and hope that there is a simple solution for that.
    Thanks,
    D.

a few years ago I bought a "C++ Primer" programming book from Amazon. The book is no longer downloadable from Amazon... the DRM version has gone to some other DRM format. THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST DIGITAL DRM BOOK.
I have not been able to read it although I shelled out a whoppy $45.00 USD. Adobe Digital Edition is stupid and find it awkward to use. I found one copy of the book on my old laptop that appears to be not corrupt. I'm now trying to read it from my desktop (its a 23 inch screen. Adobe suppport SUCKS, I've been at trying to open this DRM book for several Years now. The last time ADE kept kicking back "No internet connection" when I clearly have a one.
Now I'm getting this error pasted from ADE after adding the book to my library (<---stupid term for this but it is what it is). I JUST WANT TO OPEN THE BOOK I PAID FOR. I'm suppose to be able to open this book on SIX different PCs...WTF

  • DRM Activation Error "Number of activations exceeded" (Android reader)

I received this error "Number of activations exceeded" when entering in my Adobe ID in my Android device.  I have owned several Android phones and tablets and probably have activated on all of them over the years.  How do I reset the activations?  Thank you.

It is a vicious cycle.  I spoke with two different people by phone (no chat is available that I could find, nor an email address0.  The first person said they could not help after keeping me on the phone 20 minutes.  I called again and after speaking to two people, my "case" was referred to the Diginal Editions department and someone will contact me within 24-48 hours.  No contact so far 30 hrs later.  This seems to be a frequent issue according to these forum comments, but Adobe does not seem very customer sensitive or efficient in resolving these fairly simple issues.

I had to reinstall Adobe Digital Editions after a hardware failure.  Now I get this message.  I can't read any of my purchased PDF books.  I hate Digital Editions.  Hateithateithateit.  Can't escape it however.  Too bad there isn't a better alternative product out there.
Does anybody know what in the world this error message means and how it can be fixed?

    Hello,
There is a similar discussion in
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/314591?start=50&tstart=0
Also it's worth checking your firewall isn't blocking visits to the activation server at http://adeactivate.adobe.com.  If you can see a 'Welcome to Digital Editions' message then your firewall allows access.
There may also be more information in your firewall logs.
    Good luck!

  • Ebook DRM activation problems

I was attempting to activate reader for a mobile device running Windows Mobile 6 (unsuccessfully) when I decided to stick with Palm. Because I had so many Adobe Reader programs loaded (updates since version 4), I decided to clean up my software by deleting all Adobe Readers and Acrobat 6 Professional. I then reloaded Acrobat 6 Pro and updated it through the program. At that point I tried to activate the program so that I could borrow library ebooks. Since then, I've called Adobe Support at least 10 times and get someone who tries to help, transfers me to Tech support (even though I tell them they don't offer help with Reader), or am told straight out there is no help. Those have tried to help have; 1) deleted all my activations, because they claim that was the problem; and 2) had me load various different readers - either 6 or 7. Still no activation, though I can download books. The problem is I want to transfer them to my Palm OS phone. At the moment I only have version 7 of Reader installed and get "Your Adobe software could not be activated - Adobe DRM Activation error (server code 9) fault location 5." I believe this has to do with how I signed on when last activated, and it's looking for me to use the same sign on. But Support assures me there was only 1 sign on used; regardless, all activations were deleted. I tried to delete all the ebooks in my ebook folders, but still get the same message.
I also get the message (different numbers, but same problem) with the mobile device.
Why does the message say to contact Customer Support if they aren't equipped to solve it or if Adobe doesn't offer support? Is there a website where all these known messages and fixes can be found?
I know that there is a way of looking into my profile and changing/deleting things, so why is this becoming so hard to fix? I've spent 6 days working on this and now can't get anything to work. Please help.

You may want to post your question also in the ebook forum,

  • Network error that prevented DRM activation

I have 4 purchased e-books that will not activate using digital editions on my mac. The error reads
"There were some documents that were not imported into your library during Rebuild Bookshelf.
There was a network error that prevented DRM activation on your system." The log says there was an "Activation Server error".
These books still open in Adobe reader 7.x fine.
Anyone having this problem? Any ideas on how to fix it?
    thanks

Please try again. The server which controls activation has, on occasion, gone offline and this is exactly the error you will see. Please post back here if that does not resolve the issue.

I am not able to download an ebook to my PC. I have windows 7 x64. I get a "Check Activation" error. The question is that I have 2 Adobe users. I have the ebooks associated to one of them but every time I download Adobe Digital Editions, independently from what user I download it, it always create the Adobe Digital Editions associated to the worng user. If I try to delete the Authoritation it says that it is nor posible and recommneds me to try later, but I never get it.

This is a user-to-user forum, and although Adobe staff make occasional appearances here, there is no guarantee that you will get any "officila" Adobe feedback.
If you have difficulties to install the online installer from http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/, then download the offline installer http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe; save it to disk, then run it after closing all browser windows.

  • Question about Reader DRM activation

    Hi All
I got a paper "FAQ ACS Discontinuation of Sales, November 30, 2004"
I have a question about ACS.
As I konw, ACS is discontinued effective November 30, 2004.
and I read a section in paper below:
    Q. Will Adobe Reader and Acrobat users get support from Adobe for eBook issues?
    A. Support is not available for the free Adobe Reader, however, assistance for user activation is
    available until December 31, 2006.
Does it mean Reader activation service will be stop until December 31, 2006?
That's a big problem for our ebook service!!

Adobe communicated in January to ACS customers that the DRM Activator service would remain operational until December 31, 2007, one year longer than previously announced.
If you didn't receive this announcement, send your contact info (email and surface mail) to "[email protected]".
You'll receive an autotmated reply that your email bounced but it will then be manually confirmed.

  • How to retrieve comments from one OfficeTask activity and use them in another OfficeTask activity for Multi level Approval sequential Workflow

I'm designing a sequential site workflow using Visual Studio 2010 for Project Server 2010. In my case, I have following 6 stages in the workflow:
    1. InitialProposal Stage
    2. Approval Stage1 -- Needs approval from Approver Project Security Group Members1
    3. Rejection Stage
    4. Approval Stage2 -- Needs approval from Approver Project Security Group Members 2
    5. Execution Stage
    6. Completed Stage
Requirement is workflow should move to Approval stage2 from Approval stage1  if approved by all members of Approver Project Security Group1and it should move to Rejection Stage even if a single member rejects it.
Workflow should move from Approval Stage2 to Execution Stage if approved by all members of Approver Project Security Group2 and it should move back to Approval Stage1 on rejection by a single member of the group.
I'm using inbuilt PSWApproval content type and OfficeTask activity for creating approval task for the group members at both stages.
On task rejected in Approval stage2, task will be assigned again to Approval Stage1 and I want to show comments given by members of Approver Project Security Group2 to the members of Approver Project Security Group1 with this assigned task
but I'm not able to retrieve comments from officeTask activity.
My question is where exactly these comments are saved? how can we retrieve them and use them in another officetask activity? If this is not possible then what is the possible solution for meeting above mentioned business requirement?

    Hi Paul,
    Thanks for your suggestion.
By comments field I'm assuming OfficeTask.Comments field. Problem is, this field is always null. I tried accessing this field in CheckExitCondition activity as well as in OnTaskCompleted but in both the cases, it was null only(I wrote comments while approving
    the task).
I used a code activity within OnTaskCompleted activity and following code for accessing Comments and Description fields:
    public string officeComments;
            public string officeDescription;
private void TaskCOmplete(object sender, EventArgs e)
                CodeActivity Sender = (CodeActivity)sender;
                Microsoft.Office.Workflow.Actions.OfficeTask ofctask1 = ((CompositeActivity)Sender.Parent).Parent as Microsoft.Office.Workflow.Actions.OfficeTask;
                officeComments = ofctask1.Comments;
                officeDescription = ofctask1.Description;
Please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong here, I'm very new to Workflows. Also, do I need to set any specific property of officeTask for retriving comments?
    Thank you

  • Help please - cannot restore due to Activation Error message??

I have my husband's iPad and he has recently passed away. His iPad and iPhone say the following message" Activation Error: This device is not registered as part of the iPad developer Program...I've tried to restore them but they won't allow me. Help??
I don't want to lose any of his photos, am pretty sure he backed up before he passed away.
I can't use any of the devices because they are disabled.
I've tried setting them into Recovery Mode but it keeps stopping halfway through and telling me that the iPad cannot be restored.

    Error 1604:
This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, uninstalling and reinstalling USB ports, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections, device not recognized properly, computer won't recognize a FireWire or USB device). If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the USB 30-pin dock-connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for error 1604.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and re-open iTunes while iPhone remains connected.
iPhone should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.
