Another DVD Problem

I have been working on this for 6 hours over 2 days and have gotten nowhere so I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction.
I have a HPdv2000.  My DVD stopped working.  I replaced the DVD with a new one and still not working.  The light comes on for a sec at power up but that's it.  I do not have DVD/CD device listed in Device Manager.  I have no upper/lower filter settings.
I have tried to access the BIOS to see if the drive is listed there.  I was able to access the BIOS but have not been able to see a listing of IDE drives including my hard drive.  Perhaps it isn't in the BIOS anymore.
I am not sure where to go from here.  Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Trip

If I got the results you are describing and given that is a dv2000, I would conclude that the connector on the motherboard for the optical drive is bad. The dv2000, and particularly but not exclusively those with model numbers dv2499 and lower, has problems caused by a bad video chip on the motherboard. The wireless stops working, drives disappear and the video stops working, among other things. There is an nVidia class action involving some dv2000 models and you can google dv2000 nvidia problems and see what I am talking about. Sorry.

  • Mat**bleep**a DVD problem

    Hi,
I have a Toshiba equium psaaqe vista laptop it has a mat**bleep**su DVD drive. All of a sudden it stopped working, it wont read or write or recognize any CD DVD. I have researched the problem and the nearest I can get to a solution  can be found here.  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929461/en-gb
Problem is I can't locate  default data value DVD/CD-rom and the class data value cdrom? As this is alphabetical it seems its not on my system. And as the CD drive isn't’t working I can't reformat any ideas solutions much appreciated.
    Cheers

So no replies surprise surprise! I have trolled the internet and find lots of mat**bleep**a DVD problems, I also note many complaint's regarding Toshiba support. All I can say is I will never ever buy a Toshiba product again. My equium failed after I removed the tempro product support program, Toshiba sent me an email informing me my hard drive was over 50% full buy a new laptop, it then suggested a model costing over £1000. I concluded that the program was there to spy rather than help its customers. Toshiba got my money and ran off like a thief in the night!

  • In anticipating upgrading to Premiere Elements 13, I need to know what "gotchas" there might be in loading project files from version 10 (in case someone needs another DVD/Blu-Ray)

Particularly, can I load project files from version 10 (in case someone needs another DVD/Blu-Ray)

    cbjameson
What computer operating system is involved?
There is no guarantee that a project created in an earlier version can be opened in a later one. Many times it can, but...
If you do try this, then please consider working from a copy of the project 10 project file and then trying to open that in 13/13.1.
Reason: projects created in an earlier version and then opened and edited in a later version cannot be opened again in the
    earlier version.
And, there is always the issue of maintaining the connect of the source media with the project file. Is this move from 10 to 13/13.1
happening on the same computer and are the source media in the same place where they were when they were first imported
into the 10 project. Disc menus consideration may enter into this depending on your details.

  • YAPP (Yet Another Printing Problem)

I've found another printing problem - this time with colour printing.
    To my
surprise, Forte (3.0.E.0) can print in colour (at least on a HP 690C,
    using
NT drivers for the 660C, the printer being connected to a Win95
    machine).
I can print OK with from my NT develpoment machine in colour, but when
    running
the same app from the Win95 client with the printer attached locally the
coloured text disappears. Has anyone else come across this problem?
Is this another of the 'Printing works fine as long as it happens
    non-locally?'
    features?

I wonder if this is related to the printing feature I discovered

  • Another burn problem (dvd studio pro 3)

have built my project, but when i hit the burn button i just get a message box telling me 'formatting was successful'. why won't it start burning a disc, what am i doing wrong?
    thanks

I am having the same problem. Have you recently upgraded to Leopard? It worked fine for me until I upgraded. I hope they come up with a fix. I would like to use DVD Studio Pro 3 more, but I don't use it enough to justify upgrading to 4.

  • Another pixelation problem in DVD SP

    Hello All:
I've been getting some severe pixelation in a DVD Studio project.
I received 1920 x 1080 mp4 files from 2-4 hrs in length which needed editing. I transcoded those to 720 x 480 Pro Res files in MPEG Streamclip.
Imported said files and let Final Cut 7.0.3 create sequences for me. Did the editing. All sequences are between 2-2.5 hours in length. Used DVD 150 minute setting in Compressor to create the assets. The test DVD Imade looks very pixelated.
The client says they had another vendor do the same files before, and they looked great--no pixelation.
So, Is there a flaw in my workflow, a setting or settings I need to make, or is WYSIWYG?
Thanks for any help, advice in advance!!

I totally agree with both of you.
I'm going to try one more time--stay 1920 x 1080 ProRes 422 (not LT) and keep the frame size until I send to Compressor. There's almost 20 hours of content, and while 150 minutes is at the hairy edge of things, I'll still try it, because I've edited all my sequences that way.
One thing--does Final Cut X handle mp4 natively, and therefore be able to export a cleaner file?

  • Problems with playback of dvd on another dvd player

When I playback a dvd I've created, once in awhile I'll get a little stutter in the picture and sound. Not too often, but it occasionally happens. If I reverse the dvd picture to somewhere just before the stutter and play again, there is no stutter.
I'm thinking it is an issue with the dvd player and not the burned dvd itself. Am I correct or could it be something else?

Need more info on the DVD Player like brand and model number.
Also what media are you using?
Might be as easy as using a quality DVD Lens cleaner kit from Maxell or 3M.

  • Export to DVD problem - another possible fix.

If you have or had Roxio installed, and then uninstalled it or uninstalled Drag-to-Disc, there are two DLL files that may not have been uninstalled.
    C:\Windows\System32\CDRAL.DLL
    C:\Windows\System32\CDRTC.DLL
Those belong to the Drag-To-Disc feature. My theory is that Premiere Elements looks for those files, and apparently it then does something that sometimes causes an error if it finds them, even if you have uninstalled Drag-to-Disc.
If you have the Drag-To_Disc feature installed, first uninstall it through Add/Remove programs in the Control Panel. Then look for those two DLL files in the System32 directory. You will need to adjust the Explorer Folder Options so that you can see "protected operating system files and "show hidden files and folder."
Drag those two files to your desktop.
    Reboot your computer.
Start Premiere Elements 3.0. Try exporting to disc or folder like that for a while and see how it goes.
    Sidenotes:
The other "Drag-to-disc" files that shouldn't be on your computer are
    C:\Windows\System32\TFSWAPI.DLL
    C:\Windows\System32\DLAAPI_W.DLL
    C:\Windows\System32\CDR4DLL.DLL
Those should have been uninstalled the regular way when you uninstalled Drag-to-Disk or DLA using Add/Remove Programs.

I discovered that Roxio Disc Copier needs those files, otherwise when you try to launch Disc Copier, you will get a message to reinstall Roxio. By copying the files CDRAL.DLL and CDRTC.DLL to C:\Program Files\Roxio\Disc Copier 9, then Disc Copier will function, and Premiere Elements won't look there for them.
I don't know if other Roxio modules rely on those files. Hopefully you will remember this post and remember what to do.

  • Another crash problem with Adobe Premiere Elements 4

another crash question!  burned a dvd of project, saw something i needed to change as i watched the dvd, tried to get back into project, but crashed time and time again.  have tried any and all suggestions in the forum for other crash problems, but cannot fix.  can anyone help?  below is error message and my equipment.  using Windows Vista.  I want to go back to Windows XP, never had a problem.  thanks to anyone who has an idea.

I'm not sure what's up at this point, if doing a Save As and deleting your render files doesn't fix your glitch (and assuming you've got adequate, freshly defragmented room on your drives for the program to work).
You can also try working through Adobe's troubleshooting steps:

Renaming the presets folder can help. (The program will automatically make a new one when you next launch it):

  • User specific DVD problem

Okay, I have a macbook running 10.5.8 with a Matshita DVD drive. There are 2 accounts on this macbook. The primary user of this macbook told me that the DVD drive is not working. Any CD she puts in the drive tells her that it's an invalid disc and ejects it. So I take the laptop log on with the other account and the CD spins up and launches iTunes. I'm still learning the guts of OSX but is there a preferences file in the users profile that I can remove to get this working again? I looked in the user's library/preferences for a plist file relating to the dvd drive but there was none. should I be looking at the iTunes plist files instead?
I also have another issue with the time and what it's displaying, but I didn't know if that should be a separate post or not?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

If the issue is limited to that user account try starting up Safe Mode (It will take more time to startup in Safe Mode because it runs a directory check.)
If your DVD functions correctly that way, go to System Preferences >> Accounts >> Login Items, and remove them. Boot normally and test. If not go to/Users/yourname/Library/Contextual Menu Items and move whatever is there to the desktop. Then do the same with /Library/Contextual Menu Items. Lastly, try moving/Users/yourname/Library/Fonts to your desktop and restarting. Log out/in or restart, if that sorts it start putting items back one at a time until you find the culprit.
If not drag /Users/yourname/Library/ Preferences folder to desktop and restart.
    Let us know.
EDIT: Wherever I have "yourname" just read it as the name of the problem account,

  • Automount with iso9660 dvd problem

    Hi all!
I have a problem with automount: I have two optical drives (an LG cdrw drive, detected and accessible from /dev/sr0, and a LG dvd+-rw, detected and accesible from /dev/sr1). I can mount and umount manually all kind of dvd/cd from each of them.
The problem is with automount: CDROM on sr0 and sr1 device are correctly automounted (on KDE I get the usual popup when I insert one cd into the drive). I have problem only with DVD, and only with ISO9660 DVDs on sr1: UDF DVDs are well detected and mounted (after mount I can query filesystem by "mount -i" command). Iso9660 are not recognized: no popup, no messages in dmesg, no automount. I can mount them by hand, successfully.
I tried to comment out lines in fstab regarding optical drives, with no results.

  • Another headache - "problem during multiplexing/burning - buffer underun"

    Hello,
After many iDVD issues, I finally got the burning process of my DVD project.. half way through it spit my DVD out and gave me these errors:
"Errors were found during the burning process:
The recording device reported the illegal request: Buffer underrun. (0x21, 0x02.)
There was a problem during multiplexing/burning."
What is this supposed to mean and how can I just burn my DVD?!
    Thank you
    Chris

It's been awhile since I had this error crop up, but I know 2 things that caused it for me.
    1) Bad DVD media. It happened a lot when I was using some cheap, off brand DVD-R's. More expensive Sony DVD's (white) are much better and more consistent. The time wasted with bad burns from bad DVD media is not worth the time.
    2) It could even be a problem with your DVD burner going bad, but not as likely. I did have one SuperDrive replaced because I started having problems even with good, recommended brands of DVD media. However, try getting some better media first. Don't buy a lot. Try out a small package of DVD-R's or buy a disc from a friend to try out a brand.
Another possibility: Lack of sufficient, free hard drive space. Here's what iDVD 6's help file states:
"When you burn a DVD, iDVD needs temporary space on your hard disk to store the encoded files for your project. To burn your iDVD project to a single-layer DVD disc, you should have 8-10 gigabytes (GB) of free disk space on your hard disk, depending on the size of your project. For double-layer discs, you need 15-20 GB of free disk space."
Apple's support forum describes "buffer underrun" in more detail at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25750
You might also want to defragment your hard drive (with a 3rd party utiility such as TechTool Pro) so that you don't have a fragmented hard drive when burning a project.
Speed rating of the DVD media- I've seen reports that some SuperDrives work best with media rated the same as it's maximum burn speed (e.g.- 4x, 8x, etc). I would recommend trying to find media that matches your SuperDrive burn speed, or no more than twice the burn speed.
    I hope this helps.
You didn't mention which version of iDVD you were using or which operating system. Sometimes other users have tips for you based on that info.
