Another Error -21 problem

I have been trying to connect with my parents (they're dying to see the grandkids) with iChat AV and have been unsuccessful. I've read the many helpful suggestions from this forum, but still no luck.
We both have iMacs, mine is a G5, theirs is a new intel both with X.4.7. My setup is cable modem with linksys router, and their setup is DSL direct to the iMac. From my end, I can connect to appleu3test01, appleu3test02 with no problem. From their end, they are unable to connect to me or the test site with error -21. The error log is at the bottom for an attempted connection to me (it's their error log).
So far I have checked the firewall settings, checked the quicktime streaming speed, checked bandwidth at both ends (8000Kbps down, 386Kbps up for me, 480Kbps down, 283Kbps up for them). It would seem the problem is at their end.
One other bit, we can do text chat just fine, but no video or audio.
Things I have not yet tried, but will if it might help:
1. Set the iChat server setting to 443 (Is it ok that theirs is set to 443 and mine is left at 5090?)
2. Have them request a new screen name (their current name is brand new, maybe they messed that up somehow or there is a waiting period before it works? If the screen name is messed up, would I still be able to see that their on-line in the buddy list? (I can) )
3. Checked their modem for any faulty firewall settings (It's an actiontec GT701 modem and I know nothing about it or how to modify anything on it)
Please help. It's either this or it's going to cost me lots of airfare.
Thanks!

iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

Dave,
Thanks for your suggestion. I did have a look at the portforward site, and tried it out, but the pages didn't exactly correspond to his modem for some reason. The sequence of steps didn't take him to the port-forwarding section. I've tried to talk him through it to find that spot, but he just couldn't find it.
I agree that it's probably a modem setting issue. If it helps, there's more bits of info. He took the computer to the local shop and they could connect to test sites with his computer from there (therefore his mac is OK). The local ISP claims the modem is configured properly to allow iChat. He double checked his connection speed and it's not blazing, but it's at least 250Kbps both ways consistently. Now to add to this, we are now able to do audio chats, but not video. I would think that if port-forwarding on the modem were messed up, then audio wouldn't work either? The first apple tech he spoke with seemed to think it might be his AIM account, so he set him up with .mac.
Anyway, he's got some tech from apple trying to help him within the next 48 hours. So here's the challenge: can anyone else here come up with a solution before the apple tech support does... :^)

  • Yes..another error (-50) problem

Hello people at apple ive got a real tricky one for you. I am currently using Mac OSX 10.3 on an iMac. I recently (5 minutes ago) bought Lewis Black's- The End of The Universe Album from you and when it tried to download it gave me an unknown error (-50) please try again later. I have looked at the other forums on this error and everyone has said that they use Windows and they get this error. Anyways, I turned off all known firewalls on my computer and then had to restart my computer in order for them to take effect. The only problem is that now htat i restarted my pc, the album dosent appear to have been purchased and I dont want to charge my credit card again to see if it even works. Anyways, my question is, a)why do i get error (-50) on a Mac? and b) What happened to my purchased album???!!

Ha i found it, if anyone has this problem, go to your system prefreneces and click sharing, go to your firewalls and enter a new port. choose other and enter 3869 for the port # and iTunes Sharing. This solved my problem maybe itll help the rest of you

  • Yet another error 8 problem, please help!

I've read a lot of the archives on this topic, but still can't figure it out.
I got an iMac and my father got one too. He has adelphia with ip phone system, and his machine is hard wired to the network. I have comcast with wireless Belkin N router and ip phone. We both can connect to each other with text chat. We can both connect to [email protected], and we get the video, so it seems to connect and work properly. When we connect to each other, we always get the error 8. When I call him, first is says it's trying, he gets the request and accepts. Then we get the communication error, and I get a message saying that I didn't respond.
I checked all ports, and even created a special firewall setting under preferences --> sharing for ichat, allowing all the ports, based on what I found on these discussions. We both set the preferences --> Quicktime to 1.5mbps.
At first I thought the issue was due to his ip phone system, but if that was the problem, would he be able to connect to the apple test server? I don't think so. So, why can we both connect to the tester, but not to each other?
Please help! I talked him into getting the Mac because of the sweet video chat system, and now it won't work. He's getting really frustrated, and so am I.
Is anyone willing to try a chat with me to see if we can connect? Or can someone try to help me troubleshoot this problem?
    Thanks!

    Tony,
I was able to connect with you a week ago. I've tried to connect to my dad once again, and got error 8. He tried calling me, and I got this message:

Yes another user with problem with Apple Mobile Device Support, I am getting the error message: Service 'Apple Mobile Device'(Apple Mobile Device) failed to start. Vertify that you have sufficient privileges to start system service....I hit retry and it came up again. I hit ignore and it prompted me to hit finish so Itunes can open.   I looked thru alot of these posts on here to try and resolve this problem myself but it's not working too well...I downloaded Itunes to my desktop so I can right click it with the program i downloaded called WinRAR. I extracted it and then went into the folder called Itunes64setup. I saw the file called AppleMobileDeviceSupport64 in there so I began to try and download it on it's own. Well that didn't work as I planned and got this error message:
Apple Mobile Device Support wasn't installed on your computer. The installer encountered errors before Apple Mobile Device Support could be configured. Your system has not been modified. To retry these operations at a later time, please run the installer again.
Well I tried to run it again and came up with the same message...I see that some people got great support to help them so I am hoping someone can help me as well. I know "b nor" is very qualfied and hopefully can help me! Please advise what I can do. Thank you

    Hi Iss9243,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
You've already tried some great troubleshooting steps, but the article below gives you quite a few more for this issue.  Hope it helps ....

Just last 2 days started getting an APS Daemon.exe-System Error saying my MSVCR80.dll file is missing when booting up my PC with Windows 7.  I tried to reinstall itunes, but got another error message.  Anyone having this problem or know how to fix it?
I now see the message from tt2 and will try that.  Thanks!

    Read this:
    MSVCR80.dll missing, cannot install iTunes

  • Getting same error message - 1st time ever having a problem witn iTunes.  Tried to re-install iTunes but that just got another error message.  Does this mean I have lost everything.

  • I try to open Firefox. Get error message saying Firefox is already running and needs to close - another error message say Firefox can't open

Turned on laptop (rebooted) after being away from it for a few hours. Went to open my home page. Error message popped up saying Firefox is already running and must be closed. I closed it and another error message popped up saying Firefox can't open - incomplete or missing files.
I went into Processes to close Firefox. Selected 'end process' but nothing happened.
Tried to use Internet Explorer but it just gets hung up. Cannot access anything.
    And, because I can't open Firefox, I can't go a refresh.
Everything was working just fine a few hours ago.
    Any thoughts?

What is the computer system and Firefox on the bad computer?

  • ColdFusion Error Variable Problem

We are currently upgrading from CF5 to CF8, finally. We have
a site wide error handling form, that captures the error
information, and saves it into a database, for an issue log
application. The problem we are seeing in CF8 is that the template
information is missing. We get the original template, but if the
error is in an included template, then we don't see that info - we
get the line number, but only the base calling template name is
    shown.
    We are using error.diagnostics, error.template,
error.querystring. This used to be sufficient, but is now
apparenlty now. Is there anyway to get this information out of
another error variable, or step up the level or reporting on the
current process? It's painful tracing problems to their source, as
we have a lot of includes.

Well that's all good news, in a way.
OK, so in the test environment stop CF, blitz all the CF and JRun logs, start it, run the script via a browser, run it again.  Inspect logs.
I can't believe nothing goes into the logs.
And do you have a <cflog> entry as the very first line of code in the script file?  And that log entry never gets made?
If the <cflog> entry never shows up, put an Application.cfm file in the same dir as the script, with a single <cflog> entry in it.  Does that <cflog> entry get made?

  • Error out problems with measuring frequency VI

I am having some error out problems with measure frequency VI. The instructions is change error out from indicator to control but does not work. Anyone can help? The VI is attached
    Attachments:
Measure Frequency VI error.vi ‏27 KB

This VI does not have an error out. Obviously, you replaced a subVI that did have an error out with this one, otherwise you would not have been able to create this wire.
Simply remove the wire or save the subVI with another name then modify it to have the error out that you are looking for.
    Hope that this helps,

  • Follow-up to archived thread "Another Error (I think) In the 12.1 New Features Guide"

I hoped to be able to add a reply to the most recent reply on March 8 in the "Another Error (I think) In the 12.1 New Features Guide" thread (https://community.oracle.com/thread/3526588), but since that thread has been archived, I am doing what was suggested elsewhere: create a new thread referencing the old one. My reply is:
Thank you for your explanation about preferring PDF over HTML. That is perfectly fine and understandable. Also, we very much appreciate your documentation feedback in this forum, and encourage you to continue to report any issues here.
I apologize for not replying much sooner. I either didn't get or overlooked an original notification about "Recent activity" after your reply; otherwise, I would have replied then.

Thanks for that comment. I have sent a pointer to it to the writer for that book. Note that with the New Features Guide, most of the content is automatically drawn from an internal system that tracks projects and features; so if a change is needed, the writer will notify the owner of that content (typically a developer or a product manager) to investigate and (if necessary) modify the underlying data, after which the changed information will be picked up for a future revision of the book.
Also, while anyone is welcome to enter documentation comments in this forum, another option that may be more convenient for comments on specific sections is the Reader Comment area at the bottom of each HTML page (such as http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E16655_01/server.121/e17906/chapter1.htm#NEWFT495 for the page containing Section 1.5.9.8). Any comments entered in a Reader Comment area go to someone in our documentation production group, who forwards them to the appropriate writers.
However, if a comment involves multiple HTML pages or books, or if you want the matter to be in a public forum for visibility and searchability, posting in this forum is a good option.

Sometimes occurs a problem: in OWA may appears error "A problem occurred while you were trying to use your mailbox" when selecting interface elements (such as "Options", "Public Folders",

Have ideas to solve the issue?

    Hi,
Event 9646 occurs if a MAPI client opens more than the default value. You can follow the steps below for troubleshooting:
    1. Run regedit, and then click OK.
    2. Expand the following registry subkey:
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\MSExchangeIS\ParametersSystem
    3. Right-click ParametersSystem, point to New, and then click  Key.
    4. Type MaxObjsPerMapiSession, and then press ENTER to name the new subkey.
    5. Right-click MaxObjsPerMapiSession, click New, and then click DWORD Value.
    6. Type Object_type, and then press ENTER to name the object.
Note: Object_type is the name of the object type in the error message that is mentioned in the "Symptoms" section.
Hope this can be helpful to you.
