Another glitch in LR 5? - import dialog much slower then LR 4.4

when i import from my memory cards i normaly don´t have to wait long to see the thumbnails.
with LR 5 it takes aprox. 5-8 times longer compared to LR 4.4.

what i mean is, i see the gray squares of the the thumbnails in the import dialog.
then it takes seconds... 6-10 seconds before the first image previews show up (20-30).
then it stops and i have to wait again and then at some point the next 20-30 images appear.
it´s annoying as hell....
with LR 4.4 the previews appear instantly and it takes not as long until all previews are shown.

The response time of wifi in ios 5.0 is now much slower then in iOS 4.2.
It takes sometimes 30 sec till 1 minute that something happend.
    I have an iPad 1 64gb with 3G..

Looks as if it is to do with your iPhone, if it can't find any Wi-Fi networks and they are turned on and set to discoverable, even after restarting the router it's still unable to find it my recommendation is to do a restore through iTunes, the update may not have installed properly, I have an iPhone 4 16GB (Black) running iOS 5.0.1 and it finds my Wi-Fi networks and log's onto them no problem, so clearly the software works, just seems that your iPhone is having a bad time
You've done everything else I'd reccommend, normal re-boot, soft reset, reset network settings.
Think it's time to do a full back up in iTunes and do the restore, then see if that resolves the issue, be sure to let us know how it goes if you do decide to do this.

  • Start to import, but it slows then stops halfway through one song

That's pretty much it. I put a (non-burned) CD in my disc drive, hit 'Import' and it starts to import it into iTunes, but then it slows and then stops importing. Then, when I try to stop it from importing, iTunes freezes and I have to force it to quit.

I have been having this same problem for about 2 weeks. When it happens, I have to actually re-boot my computer to get it to rip files again. After that it will rip approximately 3 or so CDs before freezing up again. I have been searching the forums for any news on this and it seems a lot of people are having the problem, but no real good iTunes solution. I am not running Vista, and would prefer not to rip files in some other program to use them in iTunes.

  • Why is the SSD on 2011 Macbook Air much slower then 2010 Macbook Pro with Samsung 830 SSD (less then half the speed) ?

Why is a laptop designed from ground up to use flash slower then a older laptop with a upgraded SSD from a 3rd party?
My old MBP is more then 2x the speed (read/write) with a SSD upgrade (Samsung 830) then my Air.
Any fixes or mods to boost the flash speed of the Air?

We would like you to show us how to do that.......Especially when the Samsung 830 will not fit the Air.....Please don't say duct tape....
Ok, scratch that idea.  Let me think for a moment,,,em,,,em.  OK I got it.  Sell both units and buy a mid Macbook Air 2012 version.

  • Lightroom won't open Import dialog box

Lightroom was working fine, but recently started locking up as soon as I click on import to bring up the import dialog box.  Other than that, lightroom appears to be running fine and zippy, but as soon as I click the button or go through file menu it freezes.  I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on a Core i7 with 8 GB of ram.  Things I have tried are below:
Restoring Windows to before last critical update.
    Uninstalling Antivirus SW
Uninstalling and Reinstalling Lightroom (reinstall was fresh from Creative Cloud to make sure it was the most recent version)
    Creating a new catalog
    Updating HW drivers
Tried with cards/reader/usb devices in and out
Any ideas because my next step is to format the HD and try a fresh install of windows and everything else?
    Thanks,
    Matt

  • LR5 Import dialog does not list any images

Lightroom 5 is not seeing that a folder of images I'm trying to import has any images in it. The folder is question has well over 5,000 jpegs (it's my iPhone image depository). While I was able to import images from this folder with no problem in LR4, LR5 is telling me that there are no images in the folder. I've double checked that all my import settings are normal and the same as LR4 and it doens't matter. No matter what I do, I cannot get LR5 to see that there are any images in this folder to import.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    Antonio

"If the folder already exists in the Folder panel, select it and Choose Library > Synchronize Folder."
It doesn't exist in the Folder panel. It never has. It would mess up my workflow to have it as such. I only import from this folder.
Try (via finder) moving a few of the images in the folder to another folder that has been cataloged. Then synchronize that folder to see if the images show.
I did this and the images showed up fine, so there is nothing wrong with the image files.
Instead of invoking the Import Dialog first, drag an image from th Camera Roll folder onto the Library module or the Lr icon. That will bring up the import dialog. see if you get the same results.
Did this and it did not work.
Why this is strange is that I have no problem importing from the same folder in Lightroom 4. Something has changed here in LR5.

  • LR 3.3 Import Dialog - Can imports be filtered by file type?

I sometimes use a Canon S95 point and shoot and a workaround to have RAW images AND a certain aspect ratio (such as square) is to shoot with the RAW + JPEG setting. This allows me to shoot in any aspect ratio with out cropping in post. For this reason, my import dialog in LR shows both the RAW images and the corresponding JPEG images. Often I wish to simply dump the JPEGs and keep the RAWs.
Is there any way to selectively check or select just the RAWs other than having to hand check each and every RAW while avoiding the JPEGs. In other words, is there a way to filter or segregate just what you want to import by file type.
    Thanks for your help!

Ian, thanks so much for your reply. However that material in the link was WAY over my head. Now that I know that indeed I cannot filter by file type in the import dialog, I will simply import all and delete the JPEGs once in the library module where I can quickly filter by file type and delete the unwanted files there. Thanks for helping me out.

  • Doubled list of Develop Presets in Import dialog?

Hi all, I'm running a week-old trial copy of LR3.3 on Windows, and I seem to have a doubled set of Develop Presets in the Import dialog's 'Apply During Import' dropdown menu. However, I just get the single list in the Presets panel of the Develop module.
More specifically, in the Import dropdown menu, I get:
An alphabetical listing of all built-in presets (with no user presets), followed by another alphabetical listing of all built-in presets, this time with the user presets.
So for example, if there are 20 built-in presets and 1 user preset, my Import dialog dropdown has 41 lines.
    Any suggestions?

No, factory presets are embedded inside Lightroom and cannot be removed.
Well, actually, they can, but this is undocumented and you'll have to do it after each update.

  • Why can't LR import dialog see images on my flash drive or drive drive.

Everything was working great and now LR (version 5.6/camera raw 8.6) import dialog cannot see images on my flash drive or on my hard drive.  I'm using a MacBook Pro Retina running on OS X 10.10  There are no issues using the same flash card on my wife's MBP with LR for imports (uses the same LR S/W version and runs on OS X 10.10 as my MBP).  Also, iPhoto and Preview can read and import the Flashcard images just fine.  I'm puzzled.  Does anyone have a solution?

Thank you i found disk utilities... however i was reading in another area of the community that if I reformat it on my mac that it wont work on a pc.... The whole reason for doing this is so i can give my rough editted footage to my buddy so he can combine all the footage from our unit and make one big video, and he has a pc. Also if reformatting is the cure to this problem how do i know what to reformat it to. It doesnt tell me partition sizes for each option.

  • Crashing in Import Dialog

As I was forced to start a new catalog with LR4, I selected a few directories of photos to import (about 100 photos). A few seconds after import started and I saw photos appearing, LR4 quit.
Re-opening shows only about 5 photos in the catalog (I had seen more just before the crash)
So I import again to grab more...
Now, whenever I go to the import dialog, as soon as I so much as move my mouse over any directory of my hard drive, LR4 quits.
Really want to try this with my latest set of photos, but I can't do anything if I can't get my photos in!
    MacOS 10.7.2.

I had to delete and start a new catalog. It crashed again when importing multiple directories but this time did not have an issue with coming back into the dialog. I imported directories one at a time and everything imported successfully.
A few more crashing moving around or doing nothing.
But when I go to develop, I just get a grey screen with no photo selected (while it says 1 photo selected below).
So I still can't try it!
I will try the whole process again later when I have more time.

  • Feature refinement - Import dialog

While I have not seen LR4 beta yet, I would like to request that the import dialog be refined. I would like to see the choice of "copy, add, or move" seperated from the choices of file format that the images are copied into (dng or raw). The center top bar should only have "copy, add, move" choices and the right side dialog should have an additional drop down called something like "Target file format" with choices of DNG & RAW with an additional note in the box that JPG files will arrive as is and will not be converted to another format (not sure what LR does with TIFF files right now since I dont import that format).
As it stands now, I cannot Move a image file on import and have it converted to DNG which is my prefered raw format for LR import.

This settings stays selected for future import.
Keep in mynd that this is not a global setting, but a per catalog setting. So, you have to select "Copy as DNG" for each new catalog you start. Once you selected this for a certain catalog, it stays so.
For new catalogs, it seems to remember this setting from the last import of the last used catalog.

  • How can I expand the source panel on the Import dialog window (mac LR3.3)?

    Hello,
How can I expand the source panel to the right under the Import dialog window?

To a lesser extent, the same problems exists on all panels, whether they be in import window or elsewhere. Just look at the Folder panel in Library to see how much space is wasted in offsetting the subfolders. When this was pointed out to the relevant folk the reply came back that it was by design. Bad design, but we're pi...g into a head wind trying to get it changed.

    Hi There!
The camera is a Panasonic Lumix. I don't have a USB card reader. I did try and different port although not a different cable.
I did remember one additional thing. I plugged my camera in at work to a PC. It was after that, when I came home, that the iPhoto wasn't working when I connected my camera to our iMac/iPhoto at home. I think this may have caused the problem.
    Cheers!

  • Creating a new folder starts up import dialog box...

When I click the plus sign on the folders panel, it takes me to the create folder dialog where I can browse to the location of the new folder.
Sometimes, after clicking OK, LR then starts up the import dialog box with a heap of images to import which I then need to cancel. I should have checked where the images were from but have not thought to do so before this post.
Anyway, is there any functionality in LR that should import images when a new folder is created? I think this happens when I don't have a folder selected...not sure.. away from LR at the moment.
As an aside, I wish you could click the + on the folders panel and LR would create a subfolder at the selected location with the name ready to edit, rather than going to a new dialog and having to browse to the location.

    >"Anyway, is there any functionality in LR that should import images when a new folder is created? I think this happens when I don't have a folder selected...not sure.. away from LR at the moment. "
I can't duplicate this. Whether I have highlighted an existing LR folder or not, clicking the "+" brings up the create folder dialog, I browse to a location and create a subfolder. That folder then becomes a LR folder. If I do have a current LR folder highlighted, the process (or just right clicking on the folder name and choose "Create Folder") brings up the create folder dialog with the current LR folder as the parent. I can create a new folder and it will become a LR subfolder of the highlighted one.
    >"As an aside, I wish you could click the + on the folders panel and LR would create a subfolder at the selected location with the name ready to edit, rather than going to a new dialog and having to browse to the location."
Actually, the new dialog that opens for me (as described above) places me in the selected folder - all I do is click the create folder button in that window and a new subfolder is made. I think the reason LR won't just create a new subfolder without going to a new dialog is that the folders panel lists the "LR folders" which are a parallel universe to the "real folders" on your drive. Perhaps the LR engineers thought that by providing you with the browser/creator dialog, they were giving you more control. Who knows.
