Another IOS6 blunder or a Virus?

I am having a weird experience since yesterday, i have to double click on icon on ipad to open it (even to slide to open i have to double click on the slide button on the screen), it looks like i am using a keyboard to operate ipad. is it a virus or due to IOS6 update?

Check with Kaspersky as to what versions of Firefox their programs are compatible with. It is up to Kaspersky to keep their stuff up to date as Mozilla releases new versions of Firefox. And if they are unwilling or incapable of doing it, they should inform their customers of such and maybe refund their customers instead of stringing them along.

After upgrading to ios6 my iphone will not open .xls files in emails with the default viewer. Is there a fix for this? The same emailed .xls files still open on my ipad using ios5 while viewing email like they did on my iphone prior to upgrading.

The attachment is an .xls excel 97-2003 spreadsheet. I viewed the file in the email and did not edit it with any software. I can forward the file to anyone that is may want to check it out to see if they can help me. I was wondering if there was some way of forcing another ios6 install on my phone and maybe that would solve it.

IMac Duo-CORE and virus'?

I just picked up a new iMac the other day and as much as I would love to stick with just Apple software, classes will have me needing to use Window's also.
Does simply owning this machine make me more prone to virus' because it is Window's compatible?
Does using Window's open me up to a host of virus' found in everyday life for PC's?
More than likely, my PC partition will be kept from internet use and use more for using products needed for class like: JCreator, Photoshop, SolidWorks, etc.

Just being compatible with Windows doesn't mean that you'll automatically get a virus.
But, you do need to understand that when you are running Windows that there is absolutely no difference between your computer and any other PC running Windows.
So, your machine is just as likely to get a Windows virus as it would be if you were running Windows on any other computer.
Just keeping your machine off the network does not mean that it cannot get a virus. When my wife was in college the first time, she brought home viruses a couple of times just from using her disks on the college computers.
So, if you do your homework on your machine, then take that work to a PC for work or to turn it in, and then you bring it back to your computer, you very well could get a virus if the other computer had a virus on it.
Basically, any time you share files with another computer, you risk getting viruses from that computer (if it has one).
So, you should still observe all the same precautions you would if you were using any other PC. That means an anti-virus program, a good firewall if it will be on the network, and any other precautions that would apply to any other PC running Windows.
When you use Windows on your Mac, there is absolutely nothing different about the Mac. For all intents and purposes, it is a PC.
With Mac's running on Intel processors now, the only thing that really distinguishes them now is their appearance and the fact that they will also run Mac OS X.
But, other than that, you will find that they are just as much a PC as any other PC. They just look different and will also run Mac OS X.
Now, Windows cannot read a Mac OS volume without special software. So, unless you have a program installed that enables Windows to read your OS X partition, then Mac OS X will remain unaffected by any Windows virus you get.

HT201328 An unlocked Optus iPhone 4s which accepted a Telstra SIM whilst on IOS6 failed to accept the Testra SIM after an upgrade to IOS7. Many visits to the Optus Shop and the Apple Store have failed to resolve the issue.

An "Out of Contract" Optus iPhone 4S accepted and worked perfectly with a Telstra SIM.
Following an upgrade to IOS7.0.4 the iPhone 4S will no longer work with the Telsta SIM.
The following error message is recieved
“The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported”
Apple Store Genius Bar on checking the 4S iphone in the Apple database indicate that the Service Details Policy is assigned to “Australia Optus (Singtel)” and only Optus can unlock it.
Optus indicate that teh iPhone is unlocked and I have a stalmate as noone is able to advise how to rectify the issue.
A checkof teh Telstra SIM was undertaken on another IOS6 Optus 4S iPhone and it functioned correctly.
I am aware others have had this issue as there is a reference to it on the Optus Support Community.
It means that an international SIM cannot be used in teh iPhone until the issue is resolved
I am of teh opinion teh it is an IOS7 software upgrade issue not a problem with teh harware or the carrier

Since the iPhone is carrier locked with Optus, the only way it could work with another carrier's SIM card and service under iOS 6 was by hacking/jailbreaking the iPhone to unlock it. Installing an iOS update on an iPhone that was hacked to be unlocked re-locks the iPhone to the carrier it was sold as carrier locked with when new.
All Optus carrier locked iPhones are not unlocked with iOS 7.
Only the carrier an iPhone was sold as carrier locked with can officially unlock the iPhone, or send the unlock request to Apple on the owner's behalf. Since Apple's database shows the iPhone as being locked with Optus, Optus must send the unlock request to Apple for the iPhone. When the unlock process is ready, the unlocking is done with iTunes on your computer. This is the only way a carrier locked iPhone can be officially unlocked.

I have Vista SP2. Every time I open Firefox (3.6.13), I get three consecutive error messages:
1) Windows Mail could not be started. The application was unable to open the Windows Mail message store. Your Windows Mail mailbox data is currently being used by another program, such as a virus scanner. Close the program or wait for it to complete its operation, then open Windows Mail again (0x800C0155).

This series of messages continue to recur during my Firefox session and eventually will freeze up my session.
I use Gmail. I do not use Windows Mail or Outlook Express and deleted Windows Live Mail. There is a a file named msoe.dll using the path C: /Program Files/Windows Mail. I also found C:/Program Files/Windows Live/RemoteActiveX even though I thought I deleted all Windows Live programs.
I have set Firefox as the default browser. Also, in Firefox, if I click on "File=>Send Link", it triggers the series of three error messages above.
I don't understand why Gmail would reference Winmail. Any ideas how I can fix this? Can I or should I delete the Windows Mail and Windows Live folders?

I have had many problems with permissions on Windows Vista, 7,8 & 81.1. It is usually after an update or installation, especially one that requires a reboot to finish (some AVG, Windows Live, Windows Updates, etc). Once File(s), Folder(s)
and Registry Key(s) permissions are screwed up, it can take days to work them out if ever.
After having spent several hours on a clients PC and online forums with this problem. I transferred her user profile with a free program called
Transwiz (run as Administrator) to a zip file on the HDD. I renamed her user in manage User Accounts to "Username old". I then ran Transwiz again to restore the profile but telling it to create a new user using the original Username.
After it completed restoring the profile, I logged out of "Username old" and logged in to Username and all wass well, I only needed to supply the email password which is not transferred. When you move profile data, all the old permissions
have to be removed and <st1:personname w:st="on">new</st1:personname> permissions added so the data and files belong to the <st1:personname w:st="on">new</st1:personname> user. This cleared up all the permission
problems.

Windows 8.1 Pro Pack fails to install

Been trying to install Windows 8.1 Pro Pack on my Dell XPS but it continues to fail, indicating 'something went wrong'. I worked with two different Microsoft support techs on this. The first executed a number of scans and started dism.exe /online
/cleanup-image /scanhealth, which finished successfully. They then started dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, which started and remained at 40%. The first tech later disconnected. I worked with another tech that performed
a virus scan and then indicated that I would have to pay for premium service for him to scan the laptop again.
There are no errors listed in the system log that I can find and no way to determine what 'something went wrong' means. All of the non-Microsoft services have already been disabled by the first tech using 'msconfig' so there is nothing running other
than Windows. Does anyone know where there might be a log or trace that I can check to determine why the Pro Pack won't install?

ITunes 9 not allowing most smart playlists to automatically sync with iPod

Oh dearie me. This is another major blunder for iTunes 9 - which I cannot see anyone else has noticed yet (but sorry if I couldn't find an existing related post).
Since upgrading to iTunes 9- almost all of my smart playlists (whick worked perfectly before) have disappeared from my iPod. They have also removed themselves from the list in iTunes where I choose which playlists to sync. Yes- I use the 'sync only checked songs & playlists' option (but please don't suggest I manually manage music, as I've been there before).
The problem seems to happen when a smart playlist references 2 or more other (smart or normal) playlists in iTunes. This excludes about 95% of my playlists from syncing in iTunes 9.
Before the upgrade I noticed that iTunes posted an exclamation mark next to any playlist on my iPod that had a rule referencing a playlist in iTunes- but they still sunc perfectly for years. I mean if Apple allowed us to make our own smart playlists only for the iPod- then I would understand- but its the only way I can see to have a playlist for example that plays all favourite but not recently played dance music (regardles of actual genre); nor anything I have moved to a manual playlist called 'not for syncing'.
As a test, I tried an experiment with a new smart playlist which said so long as the song appears in (all) 2 smart playlists- to see when it would become 'syncable'. As would be expected- it was not available to sync. As soon as I deleted the 2nd playlist rule- ie it only had to be in 1 playlist, it became 'syncable'. As soon as I added a 2nd rule again- be it a smart or normal playlist- it became 'unsyncable' again (disappeared from the sync list).
Apple please fix this ASAP. I cannot see this as being desirable behavior in any way, shape or form.
And while you are at it with the new improvements with iTunes 9 playlisting- please add an option to exclude certain 'match' parameters- eg match x and y, but exclude anything that matches z. Besides allowing for much better playlisting, that would (to a degree) also provide a workable workaround to the problem above.

Cheers for chiming in- but I don't think that will solve this problem. I have no podcasts on my iPod- only mp3s. My problem is I have way too much music in my library- over 300GB. So I have all my iTunes smart playlists- eg genre Dubstep- but then I have an iPod version of each of these eg Dubstep iPod- which says match both criteria- playlist is Dubstep, & playlist is not 'Master not sync'. Every smart playlist on my iPod revolves around this playlist- whose rules are if any of the following 2 criteria match: rating is not between 1&2 stars; playlist is not the normal manual playlist called 'not for iPod sync'- where I drop any mp3s that I don't need on my iPod. This scheme worked perfectly before.
But I am gonna chew on what you said today- maybe there is a clue in there or maybe if I experiment with the 'music' rule. Either way- this is not an improvement- it's about 200 steps back. I still maintain that the problem I am seeing is not intentional coding. Something broke in the codebase & now iTunes 9 has playlist / syncing bugs which need fixing.
Either that, or Apple need to finally release a 500GB iPod- so I can get rid of my iPod specific playlists & sync all my iTunes playlists. Then I would even consider putting podcasts on there as well...;) Heck maybe even some video... crazy idea, I know.

Problem Connecting to Internet after recent Software Updates from Apple

I have an old iMac 15" flat panel, running OS X 10.3.9, just ran the Software Update an hour ago. Now my computer won't connect to my wireless network via the Airport. I tried to open the Internet Connect apps from Apple and it won't even load, it has this swirling beachball has been on for 15 minutes and it says "Loading Internet Connect..."
Anybody experience something like this! Could this be another Apple blunder with their software update?
I tried, restart, remove the plist of Internet Connect, all those did not help!

How to completely uninstall 1Password?

Hello! I downloaded and installed 1Password directly from the developers web site to try it out... well, I didn't really like it. Problem is, I can't figure out how to get it off my machine! They have an uninstaller which I downloaded and used.. but still the icon sits on my launchpad and fires up when I click it. I tried dragging the icon to the trash, but the trash won't accept it. I tried holding the mouse over the icon and click holding... the icon does the little vibrate thing but no little x to delete it. I went into the library and then into the application support icon, but there is not a folder for 1password there. Why?? That's where it's supposed to be.... but it's not... yet the icon remains on my launchpad, ready to open with a simple click. Oh yes, for those wondering.... I have restarted my computer about 12 times in between my steps! Argh! I would love for someone smarter than me to help me on this topic. Hopefully I am just making a dumb mistake here

That's the fault of the way LaunchPad is designed and nothing to do with 1Password. You can't drag 3rd part apps to the trash at all in LP.
Somewhat inconsistently, however, you can drag apps bought via the app store off LP to trash. So now users have to know where there apps came from in order to trash them. Yet another design blunder in the upgrade...

ok here goes
a while ago a friend of mine got satellite internet. hughes?.. the required technition came hooked the modem by ethernet to the laptop.. they ask since this instalation do you think it would be possible to connect our wireless router.. not hub.. they tried but favorably failed.. my friend called me. but because i am self taught i suceeded where they failed. my friends computer was only.. vista.. and i only know and worked on a vista for about a month.. but because i'm self taught im a huge problem solver. even though vista for the majority of the time asks for allow, continue, unblock yatta yatta yatta. with my revolations never use a wizard setting up networks.. im strongly against wizards. in vista the only wizard i accept is one that checks for checks and balance if the wizard is connected to internet or network. but the diagnose the problem i say no to. entering in information manually to router mac address and ip gateway and dns addresses for static ip address from your router and no dynamic hosting from router if it is not static ip for the ethernet or wireless card for your pc doesnt like a secure wireless section and become unstable if you use dhcp on your router. reason i say this is doing this method allows for clerical sence from router to router. my friend when i went there he had a router i have never heard of. but since its supported i downloaded the manual looked at how it was different and succeeded to hook him wirelessly not hard right?..well and another thing is turn dhcp and ddns off on the modem and just use its gateway address. so if later it gets confused you since manually doing it you can just unplug the modem and router ac cord wait 30 seconds plug the modem in wait 20 seconds or till the lights stop blinking then plug the power cord into the router just wait 1 minute then you should be connected. now because on the modem you turned ddns and dhcp and used mac address and gateway and ISP's dns address its that easy to reset them. another thing is that anti virus isnt compermised on vista you cant goto task menu in processes and end process on a installed anti virus. you must uninstall the program.. firewall is basiclly same.
story goes i hear best buy has geek squads. well do they know its verry handy to download manuals. know that manual installation of network is 50% faster and effective. you dont need to ever call ISP's for DNS addresses, but you do need dns from them but its just you dont need thier help. also i did it that way and i confirmed my public library internet is from the same ISP i have. and no i didnt hack. i just selected my wireless card adapter right clicked and went to status. if open system to dhcp and no passphrase to log onto your router they can get all this information no extra software needed. thats wireless anyways. so turn your mac address and router to shut off dhcp. but not static dhcp. and you will also need to know the names of your pc's -- start menu right click my computer and propertise and computer name or control panel yatta yatta yatta. or if my computer is on desktop. either one of the 3. on my friend router i was not happy. you had to go into web browser 192.168.yatta.yatta in router and any wireless you need to take thier registered computer name and mac address and check the box that said block this connection. i paid a little more at best buy than this cheep thing and mine wont negotiate with others unless previous enter information. this one loged you on and chose. my router is a dlink something best buy knows and i even belive linksys does the same type of stuff but i never looked at linksys if its more better if you make your ip address to static to turn off additional ip addresses handed out by dhcp or not with secure connection but test it.

When you are behind a router , you will always get the 192.. whatever address. You can go to many sites to see what your real IP is , I personallly like dslreports.com or www.whatismyip.com

Can i refer remote server machine's exe file path in RunTime class's exec method?

It's not so easy to cause a program to run on another machine. In fact virus writers consider that a challenge.
If you want to run a program on another machine, you need that machine's permission, in the form of a server that accepts requests to run programs. An FTP server can be configured to do that, and there are other servers that can do it too. Ask the administrator of the other machine about setting one up.

Photoshop dissapears while in use

For the past couple of days I've had this continuing problem with photoshop CS4. It opens correctly, works just fine for about 4 to 5 minutes, then without warning, and I reiterate without any warning from my computer, it completely dissapears and closes. I then have to reopen it again, and at that point it works for the same amount of time, then dissapears. Usually a shut down of my computer for about 30 minutes will have it working again for a day or so. Then, it's back to normal. The file I'm working with is small and at one point I didn't do any work and it still shutdown. Anybody have any remedies for this problem? I already uninstalled and reinstalled and that was to no avail.
Any help will be appreciated.

I Googled your issue but most replies were for other software and not much about Adobe. The replies for adobe found resource conflict, spyware eating resources, faulty ram moduals and torrent sites. I am pretty much out of ideas.
You can schedule a RAM check before the OS starts to see if any modual shows defective. Also run a virus check in safe mode if you can or run another type of free online virus check. There are several out there.
Heat build up? Card cooling fan free to spin? Dust build up?
Maybe someone will chime in.

Lightroom 2.0 CD will not run

I have a brand new Dell Studio 1525 laptop with Vista Home running on the 64 bit.
I have installed Photoshop Elements 4.0, Acrobat, Home Designer Stuite 8.0, Microsoft Programs etc. from CD's and had no problems.
When I place my Lightroom 2.0 cd in the drive and allow it to Autoplay my whole computer freezes, until I finally manually boot it down.
So I turned off autoplay and chose to "Explore" the cd and I could get to the folder with Setup 32 or Setup 64 and by then my computer freezes, before I can click anything.
Tried copying the contents to the desktop, it copied all the way up until 2 files were left then froze, those two files Setup 32 and 64.
So next I tried run as administrator, froze. I tried every trick, safe mode, turning off ALL other programs. It will let me see the contents of the cd then it freezes, thought it was the Flash autoplay that was doing it, but I think I'm wrong. Anyone have any suggestions?
I thought maybe the person I bought it from gave me a fake copy (I bought it off of another website) so I ran virus check, checked the MB on the cd and even downloaded the trial version and registered it with the serial number on my box. Everything checks out just fine. The case cover and sticker on the cd was somewhat lower quality than I think it should be, but I have no other Lightroom case and cd to compare my copy too.
I'm at a lose, I'm new to vista and maybe there is a back door somewhere that I can trick the computer into installing the cd. It makes the noise of the cd drive spinning the cd and does this about twice then I never hear it spin again. But it locks up all of windows completely, even task manager won't fix it. All my other cd's work fine, I plan on trying the cd on another computer that is running windows xp to see if it is just Vista giving me problems. But maybe someone on here could shed some light on my problem.
I have the Trial version download working fine and registered, but someone said that not all the features are there that are on the cd, so I wanted to install the cd to get everything that comes with the program.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
UPDATE: I ran the CD on another computer that is running WINDOWS XP and it worked perfectly. So it is something with VISTA that is giving me trouble.

Thank you, I have been running the Trial 2.1 version with no problems. I just entered my serial # in, since I couldn't get the CD to work I had no other choice but to download the trial and enter the serial. Glad to hear they are the same, I'll just keep my registered trial version download, I just was confused that the CD was 695 MB and the download was only 64MB, I figured something major was missing from the trial version.
But still can't get the CD to run, hopefully I won't have this problem again with another cd, atleast with Lightroom I had the option to download, thanks Adobe!
