Another iPod not showing up problem

Greetings,
I'm having a problem similar to the ones described on here. My iPod 5G is working fine, as is iTunes. The iPod isn't showing up in iTunes or in My Computer though. Before I uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes and the iPod from my computer for the bajillionith time, I was getting the "USB device not recognized" bubble, but that is no longer happening. When I connect my iPod to my computer, the Autoplay window pops up, and scans for a few seconds, then nothing happens. The iPodservice.exe is running. Any suggestions? I am contemplating sending it in for service, but as I'm leaving for France in less than a week, I'd like to have it while I'm gone. Any help would be very, very appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

Try making sure that the iPod is connected to a USB port in the rear of your computer. Try to use one of the original ports that came with your computer, not an added in card, or through a hub, or anything like that.
See if you're able to restore the iPod

Also, have a look at this article, and see if you can find anything useful in here:

If you're able to get your computers to recognize your iPods, but you're still not getting it set up in iTunes, have a look at this article:

Uninstalling your iTunes will not erase any of the music that you have saved on there. Music that you download from iTunes, or import from a CD, saves as a file in:
Start > My Music > iTunes > iTunes Music
If you downloaded a song from a different source (such as Limewire) and you edited the information so that it shows up correctly on your iPod, you may need to go back and re-edit this information. But, if you imported from CD or downloaded from iTunes, this will not be necessary. When you open your newly installed version of iTunes, it will automatically pull your music from that location and bring it up in your library.
If you're having this problem when installing a new iPod on your computer, but an older one works without problems, you might want to try to make sure you have updated software
iTunes 6.0.4
Open iTunes > Help > About iTunes
If you need to update:
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
iPod Updater 2006-03-23
Start > All Programs > iPod
If you need to update:

If you are indeed having a problem with your iPod itself, have Apple replace it for you:

  • IPod not showing up on computer or in iTunes

My iPod mini (It's the older version of iPod mini in the darker colors) recently stopped showing up on my iMac and iTunes. It charges, but since it doesn't show up, I can't add music or anything.
I already looked at the support page Apple has for this problem and I tried everything and nothing helped me. The only thing I didn't try was resetting my iPod, which I don't think will work because not only does my iPod not show up, but neither does my sister's and my mom's.
My sister has the same model of iPod mini as mine, and my mom has the slightly newer mini (with the brighter colors).
Does anyone have any suggestions how I can fix this problem? I gave up on it for awhile, but now I really need it resolved. Thank you in advance.
    Power iMac G3 Mac OS X (10.3.9)

It sounds like the port or cable is having a problem. First try a different cable.
If the cable doesn't fix things then try resetting the PMU (Power Management Unit) then see if the iPod will show up.

  • 7th gen iPod not showing up in Windows 8 anymore

7th gen iPod not showing up in Windows 8 anymore. Tried all the apple troubleshooting. Help?

I have tried all the 'Rs' that Apple recommend. As said, I can't hook up the iPod to my computer. I have tried to reset the iPod manually (holding the select and menu button) - but this doesn't work.
If there is another (manual) way to restore the iPod, I would love to hear about it.
As said: as for restoring the iPod - I can't get any contact with my iPod with my computer at all.

  • Updated iTunes and iPod software  iPod not showing up under devices in iTunes

Updated software since computer said there were updates.  Now I'm having trouble with iPod not showing up under devices.  Have gone through all the steps under troubleshooting.  Nothing helped.  Had this same problem periodically in the past, as well.  Itunes also says I have an app I reinstalled today due to it not working properly, and it won't synch with iPod.  (earlier today, iPod was showing up and synching properly, but this app wasn't getting downloaded to the iPod.  Just shows up in iTunes.  HAve tried restarting computer, iTunes and iPod, but no luck.

Thank you but I have tried this and it still does not show up.  I even tried to delete itunes and reload it but the computer says that it is not able to delete itunes.

    Hey there,
A file or some files may have become corrupt somehow during connecting or disconnecting the unit. Try putting it into Disk Mode and see if that helps. To put it into Disk Mode, hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears. When it does, immediately press and hold the Center an Play/Pause buttons until you see a confirmation that your iPod has been put into Disk Mode.
If you are able to do this, it may be a good idea to restore the iPod to its original settings. Keep in mind that by doing this you are erasing all the music and files from your iPod so make sure they are backed up on your computer somewhere. More on restoring your iPod can be found in the Apple document below.
    Hope this helps.

  • Ipod not showing or playing songs, but is showing gigs being used

    Hi,
I've got a 4th generation ipod. I sent it back to
    have the battery
replaced. when it came back, it looks as if my
    music was all wiped
out. But... if you go under menu --> about, it
    shows that i am using
    about 14 gigs of space.
I can even hook this ipod up to my computer and
    'explore' it through
the drive letter and see the hidden files and
    actually play the music
using Microsoft Media Player or RealPlayer.
I am trying to get the music off of the ipod into
    my external hard
drive so that i can reformat the ipod to fix it,
    but i am not having
any luck. I've tried copypod and ephpod2 with no
    luck. It starts to
copy it, but is never able to finish it.
If you know of anyone that can do this, please
    let me know.
    Thanks,

I don't know if the ipod still works with my old windows laptop- wouldn't it erase all the data if I plugged it in to an empty itunes library? :/
And uhm... no, basically. It's not showing up on anything on the macbook, though on the ipod screen it says it's charging, which is what's quite puzzling.
Yeah, my ipod was transferring music until about a week ago or so, so I thought it probably wasn't that, but better safe than sorry!
The ipod itself seems to be fine- I was listening to it this morning, no problems at all. I guess it could be the cable- but I don't have another ipod to try on my macbook, if that's what you meant.
I'll see if I can go into the nearest Apple store sometime this week and see if they have anything to say about this!
    Anyway thanks for the reply!

  • Ipod not showing on the computer, but still charging

Basically... I plugged my iPod into the computer a few days ago, and nothing happened- usually itunes opens automatically, but it didn't this time, so I opened up itunes to see what was happening, and the ipod wasn't showing. I checked in Finder, but there was no ipod there either.
I've read through all the literature about these sorts of problems, but the strange thing is that my ipod is showing as charging- so it's obviously got some sort of connection to the computer going on, even though it's not shoing up on the computer screen.
I bought my MacBook not long ago, and before, I had a PC... so my iPod is configured for running on Windows... I don't know if this affects this problem or not, but I figured it was worth mentioning.
Any help would be much appreciated, cause I'm totally lost here! Thanks in advance

  • Ipod not showing in itunes or windows/my computer

I have a brand new 80 GB ipod classic and have the latest version of itunes but cannot get it to work.
It does not show up in itunes or my computer. I have tried everything in this list:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61711
But nothing has worked. My partners ipod works fine on this computer.
    Does anybody have any suggestions

I had 80 GB ipod before and it used to work fine , then last week I upgraded from 80GB to 160GB video classic and also i updated itunes to 7.4.1 , the first 2 days it was working excellent and on sunday morning my laptop did not recognise it , neither did itunes. It was unable to detect it . I was frustrated , so on monday i thought lets try on my office pc , also office pc did not detect. Then I did a hard boot of my ipod by pressing center button and Menu button simultaneously for few seconds and the apple logo comes and after that the menu comes , then i plugged in the ipod to my pc and now it detects as a drive. My office pc doesnot have itunes so i could not check wether Itunes detect it or not. I will check today evening that. but atleast now its detecting as a drive . I guess there is a serious problem in Ipod classic , also I found one other intresting problem. My previous 80 gig ipod was to work as a charm on my laptop external 2.0 USB device , but this 160GB classic doesnt work on external 2.0 USB device , I have to plug to my 1.1 USB port on my laptop which is very disappointing. My external 2.0 USB device shows error saying APPLE USB DRIVER NOT Found. I seriously know this is problem from ipod classic. Since my preious 80GB use to work like charm. I guess I have to update my laptop now.

  • Ipod not showing up in itunes or on computer

after updating to itunes 9.1 my ipod will not show up anywhere on my computer. It doesn't even do anything when i plug it in. Although everytime since then a message comes up after logging into my computer about the applesync notifier had some sort of error and CoreFoundation.dll was not found. I re-installed itunes and that didn't help so i uninstalled MobileMe and now the message does not come up,my ipod still doesn't connect though.Any help?

  • Windows Service Manager 32-Bit Has Stopped Responding/iPod not showing up in iTunes

    Hello,
I've scoured this forum for answers but I cannot find any result that works. I have an iPod classic that I've connected to my Gateway running Windows Vista for over four years without issue. When I was using iTunes 9 the other day, I plugged my iPod into my computer, but it only connected to My Computer and didn't connect to iTunes and update my iPod accordingly. So, the iPod is charging and the iPod is showing the "Connected, Eject before disconnecting" screen, but it isn't adding new music (which kind of defeats the purpose of buying new music). I thought it was because I was using 9, so I downloaded iTunes 10, but the issue still popped up.
This hasn't pop up today after I installed 10, but back when I was using iTunes 9 the following error came up on my computer: "Windows Service Manager 32-bit Has Stopped Working." Now, no error messages pop up, even though the problem persists.
I've tried suggestions in this post as well as in this post. Also, with the fix being recommended in those threads to change the code in Notepad by clicking "edit" under the System tab under My Computer? There's one problem - there is no edit button on my options. I've included a screen grab to prove this.
I don't know if the relative age of the discussions makes any difference - maybe a new fix has com up and i'm just not finding it? Plus, since this issue began with iTunes 9, I can't help but feel like getting rid of iTunes 10 is going to help the issue, either.
This is incredibly frustrating, not being able to add new music to my iPod, so if anyone can help me out, I would greatly appreciate it, as previously recommended ones aren't useful.
