Another issue related to safely disconnecting/cutting off power to an iPod
Greetings I just received my first iPod (as a Christmas gift).
I followed all of the setup instructions and was happily synching and charging it for the first time when my laptop decided to go wonky on me. Specifically, the laptop screen has gone black. (The computer isn't frozen; all programs & applications continue to run.) This has happened to that computer before, and though I can't be 100% sure, I don't believe the iPod or iTunes caused it this time.
Normally I try closing the laptop to briefly send it into hibernation, then open it back up again. If that doesn't restore the display, I'm forced to do a hard shutdown and reboot.
My iPod is now fully charged.
However, without the ability to view what's going on, I have no idea if it's done synching.
More importantly, I can't see the Eject iPod button, so I cannot safely disconnect it.
So, my questions are:
Should I attempt closing the laptop to send it into hibernation and then fire it back up again? (Seems like an unsafe measure... And at this point, doing a hard shutdown - as always - sounds like it should be reserved as a last resort.)
Or, does anyone have any other suggestions for my situation?
I would be ever so grateful for any advice about this problem.

the ipod was synching and at this point you don't know if it is still synching. the only thing that can happen if you disconnect the ipod while it says, "do not disconnect" and it is synching is that the song that is currently synching onto the ipod will get corrupted and the ipod will skip over it when trying to play it on the ipod.
the safest thing to do for the ipod is to power off the computer, if it is safe for your computer, and then the "do not disconnect" will go away and you may safely disconnect the ipod. hope this helps : )

Not all of them. Just a few.I am having the same issue on my iPod Touch. I restored it (for other reasons), after having had to replace the HD in my desktop (which became a different computer). Bottom line, what used to work now doesn't. One of the things I found is that, if I redownload a tune that is cutting off from iTunes and delete the old one, the new one is OK (or, was the case in this particiular experiment). This is by no means efficient, however I think I can make it work.
The question is, is there a tool available that would allow me to scan the library on my iPod and flag the tunes that are cutting off? Note, my main iTunes library on my desktop is fine.

IMessages to an iPhone occasionally appears with words cut off from end
When sending texts from iMessages to an iPhone, the text occasionally appears on their iPhone with a couple words cut off from the end. It appears fine in the iMessages display/history. Here's a few things I've noticed:
- It's repeatable. For example, the following message always causes the issue: "man, why are you here? Two are in testing places". On the iPhone it appears as "man, why are you here? Two are in testing".
- It's a problem with iMessages. If I send the exact same text from the iPhone, it goes through just fine. The message has to originate from MacOS iMessages. (I'm using the latest Mountain Lion and all updates as of 12/21/12)
- The full message is actually being successfully transferred to the phone; it just does not display correctly. There are two pieces of evidence for this. If on the iPhone, the user copies the truncated message and pastes it somewhere else, the full message is pasted! Moreover, on the top level the messages app (where you see the last message from all the recent people you texted with), the full message displays.
- It can happen with both short and longer messages. Here's another longer message I noticed got cut off: "That's funny that you though I was joking when I said I was debugging. Why is that so weird?"
- It has something to do with the length of the message or how it is being wrapped. I can create modifications of those texts with the same length, and they will cut off. (That said, some modifications will not cause the problem, so it's more than just length. Maybe it has something to do with how it wraps the words?) Usually adding a few words to the message will allow it to go through.
- It always cuts off at a space. In other words, it will not truncate something in the middle of a word.
- I have only seen it cut off one or two words before.
Apple really needs to make this a high priority fix. Unreliable messaging of this sort is a deal-breaker for iMessages, IMO. My guess is that they haven't had more reports for this because people simply don't notice unless the last word or two totally ruins the meaning of a text and the other person points it out.
Can people try to recreate this on their machines? If so, please do so and file a bug report (http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html). All you have to do is get on your iMessage app and text one of those two messages to your phone. If it appears truncated on your phone, you've confirmed it. I had seen these in Quicklook at the point where the Message appeared to show double spaces after a Full Stop or Question Mark.
You are right that it have not dawned on me that I had not seen them between words.
It was TextEdit as well (Not sure why I said QuickLook)

Part of this means the iMessages sent out.
The "repeat" is the sync back from the the ID the iPhone is using.
I am presuming the leading numbers are the iMessage identifier that iMessages uses to tell whether it has been Synced

I understand this has been reported previously, (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2152205) but I wonder if lately, there has been any updates to this issue of Screen Shots being cut off? When I use <⌘-Shift-4-Space> to take a screen shot in Safari, when the Window gets large, the right side gets cut off:
Should I file a bug report with Apple?Do you look at the file that is created or the screenshot that you plug into MS word? It cut-off my first lines of an Excel workbook screenshot but I could fix it using the "overlay" option for displaying it in Word.

Sync failures / songs cut off?!
Bought it used (I KNOW...) sometimes sync fails saying something about 'required file missing, Restore your Ipod, try again'. Does this about every 3-4 syncs.
Playing music in shuffle mode, cut off middle of song, starts the next on. Does this maybe every 20-25 songs. Also shufle seems to have a favorite band. it is shuffling, burt it will play 5-6 in a row from the same artist, then something else, back to original artist, even though they only acount for about 10% of the music. weird huh?
Hard drive seems to make a fair amount of noise when it is looking for the next some and when it cuts one off.
Tried the 3 Rs.
forced to disk mode, synced OK, but still having play / shuffle issues.
Are there any diagnostics to run that will shed some light?
- Tim-Aoh forgot to mention- for me the songs are cut off both on my Ipod as well as on my computer, which makes it a really annoying glitch. For my friend it happens only on his ipod.

Someone please help! song cuts off
I bought a cd from ITunes store, downloaded it, synced it to my nano & 1 of the songs cuts off half way thru, the next song starts (while still under the previous title) plays all the way thru then starts again under its own title.
I recommend to convert all your Music with iTunes itself. A lot of people had the problem (see earlier threads), that songs cut off during playback on iPod, even if they do play in iTunes.
The Reason is, that iPod nano has problems to read the MP3 Encoding of some converting programs. So just convert all of your songs (which wont play correctly) with iTunes itself. So go into your library, highlight these songs, right-click, choose "convert to AAC" (this is standard. You can set MP3 in the preferences in iTunes also...I've done so....thats better for other players then iPod )
After the new converting, you can delete the older (double) songs. Than just sync iPod again and you're done.

Apple TV cuts off when open Macbook. WHY IS THIS STILL AN ISSUE!!
The issue is not fixed with Apple and it's really annoying. It affects all devices. Here is what I have found so far and I'm pulling my hair out. APPLE!! why have you not had a fix for this yet? You come out with the latest and greatest devices but you can not keep what you already have running? Come on this is frustrating. Look at the number of times this question has been asked on here, heck look at the number of views its unreal at over 10,000. This is a huge issue and should be worked on ASAP. At least make us think you are trying to fix it. If there is some magical fix I have not been able to find it.
And because many people while trying to help ask the same questions to all these post I will try to answer all the typical questions now to save some time.
- Yes, I have tried it with Itunes off and it still does it so it is not an Itunes issue.
- No, I am not watching a movie from my Macbook to ATV and I shut the lid etc. Nothing is streaming from the Macbook to the TV when I have the issue.
- The ATV works perfectly fine so long as the Macbook lid stays closed or the WiFi is shut off.
- Yes, I have been able to watch ATV while the Macbook was open, Itunes both on and off, WiFi on and ATV played fine. The issue seems to be intermittent but now has gotten worse.
- It has done the same thing with two completely different routers.
- iCloud off - no change
- Homeshare off - no change
- iTunes off - no change
- I turned off Wifi while no show was playing on ATV. Turned WiFi back on then started a show on ATV while the lid was open. Show ran fine. I turned off WiFi on MB show still ran fine. I turned WiFi back on and it killed it. ATV went back to main menu. Tried to restart show without making any changes while lid open and show would not play.
- Logged out of iTunes account on ATV, tried to watch show went back to main menu, would not play.

1. ATV is running a show and roommates come home. Cuts out starts giving me issues. Have not confirmed if they are opening a mac or not but they all have iPhones.
2. Listening to podcast on ATV from my iPhone using Airplay to ATV. the broadcast will play perfectly fine until I open my macbook. At that point it cuts off completely and switches to phone output from ATV back to what it iPhone. Itunes on my Mac is turned completely off. If I turn off the WiFi connection on my MBP then the ATV Airplay on my phone works just fine. The audio will play to my ATV and will not switch back. The second I turn WiFi back on it kills the Audio and the phone goes back to normal mode. It does it right in front of my eyes. So something is causing it to switch back overriding it but it is not iTunes. Also one other thing I noticed if I try to force it by hitting the airplay button every time it try's to switch back the podcast info will flash on the ATV for a second like it is trying then it kills it and goes back to the phone.

IN our application, We are uisng quicktime plug in to play MPEG4 vedios. But in internet explorer, the vedios are not fitting into the quicktime plug in. The edges of vedio is getting cut off (like vedio is bigger than quicktime window..). Please let me know how to fix this.

Another problem - phone cuts off incoming calls
Has anyone else had issues since upgrading to iOS4 or at any other time with incoming calls being cut off just a second or so after the phone starts ringing? I've had this happen twice to me today although I've never had the problem before. I know there've been issues with 3GS handsets cutting off calls since the upgrade but I've not seen it mentioned with regards to the 3G. Anyone else experienced this at all?
I'm sorry for misunderstanding you, but you said she went to the Apple store and the third time she bought a new phone. Did the new phone work then? Is the issue still persisting on the old device? That's where I'm confused. Did she get the device replaced or just buy a new phone and the problem is still happening on the old device.

I have a 6th Gen ipod nano that will randomly cut songs off before they are finished. It also will randomly replay a song before moving on to the next. Why?? Help!!

Thank you for the details of the two issues you are experiencing with your iPod nano. For issues like this, I recommend resyncing the music to your iPod.
If you are syncing automatically, resync content to the iPod by unchecking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply," then checking "Sync Music" and clicking "Apply" again.

The song I downloaded (Slayer, Criminally Isane) cuts off about 3 seconds before the ending, I have tried re-downloding per apple support directions with the same results. What further actions may I take to fix this issue?
I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item. -
I'm using Big date theme but the numbers on the date is cut off on top. I'm on iphoto 11 and OS 10.8.2. anyone else having this issue??
OK try the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto. You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder. -

you need to turn off and turn your phone on again or wait overnight for the calendars to appear after using the link.

Phone cutting off - screen sensitivity issue?
When I am taking or making a call, as I hold the phone to my ear, it can cut off and start dialling someone else - its driving me mad. Is there anyway to alter the screen setting or is there something I'm not doing right. phone seems fine in all other respects it just seems crap at being an actual phone. I don't think its a signal issue btw as reported in other discussions? Help! Someone??
The iPhone includes a proximity sensor that should prevent this. When holding the iPhone up to your ear and face, the proximity sensor should turn the iPhone's screen off. When removing the iPhone from your ear and face, the screen turns back on.
Which iPhone model?
Are you using a case that may be blocking or partially blocking the proximity sensor? If you are using a case, remove the case to see if the same occurs without the case. -
Notes cut off when printing, issue with margins
When I print a slide with notes, the notes complete cover the width of the page, flush left and right. My printer cuts the margins automatically (not a bleed), so those portions of the text in the notes gets cut off.
Any way to control the margins, left and right, when printing notes from Keynote?Keynote print layout is a bit of a mess, and is well commented on by users, it prints differently than previous versions, eg in handouts the slide image is much smaller than previously, in grid, the slides are off the printable area on the left.
