Another iTunes Freezing / Crashing Problem

So I have an iMac running Leopard and the newest version of iTunes. I always leave my iTunes open so I can use it with my Apple TV. Once every couple days iTunes wont open. The light is under the dock icon but you cannot bring it up by clicking it. When you right click it says not responding. When you force quit, it wont close. Worse of all, when you try and reset the computer, it freezes and wont reset or quit. After holding the power button and turning it off, the mac wont reboot the first time, I have to hold the power again and the second time it loads the OS. This has happened consistently for 3 times now. After it loads, everything works fine for the next couple days. By the way, when iTunes is not responding, everything else on the mac works, so I am sure this is the problem. Any help would be appreciated because I am sure that this hard resetting is not good for the mac. Thanks. Ian

I followed apples steps in “ipod is recognized in Windows but not in iTunes”. The only one that worked was stopping the iPod helper object service and restarting it then opening iTunes.
just doublechecking something. if you switch Fast User Switching off altogether on the PC (in your user accounts control panel, click "change the way users log on or off", and then deselect "Use Fast User Switching"), do you get more reliable recognition for the ipod when you connect it to the PC?

  • Another Illustrator freeze/crash plea...

I have reviewed all the questions and answers relating to Illustrator's crashes and freezes I could find on the forum. I am running CS4 on a Vista 64 bit pc.  There is nothing wrong with my new video card or any other hardware component.  I changed the scratch disk to non-OS disk.  I reduced the size of the files I'm using.  I now close all other programs when working in Illustrator.
I haven't changed my preferences because I don't find them-- I do not have the file names listed inthe Windows 7 or XP answers... some of those routes were listed in answers for Vista 64, but I think those were incorrect... (Oh, and yes, I've set the hidden files to be visible...).
So here are my first questions:
Can someone reply with the location of the preferences for Vista 64bit?  and can someone tell me how to tell if a font is corrupt?  (this is unlikely, but would like to check).  And any other suggestions you can offer.
I'm not a skilled Illustrator user.  I am trying to create the vector files I need for a deadline submission and this is making me suicidal. Help!
    Thank you.

Thanks.  I put up some Illustrator info.  Will add PS info later.

  • ITunes 7 crash problem work-around

Until Apple fixes the never-should've-been-released iTunes 7, this is what I've come up with as a work-around: Go back to iTunes 6.0.5
    Simpler said then done.
    1) First thing is remove that godforsaken iTunes 7 from your Applications folder.
    2) Next thing you need to do is delete your iTunesX.pkg file from HD>Library>Receipts so that when you try to install 6.0.5 your computer doesn't block the installation because it thinks iTunes already is installed.
    3) Third, go to your Music folder and create a new folder (call it "For when Apple fixes iTunes 7" or something like that); move the iTunes folder into this new folder, otherwise when you start up iTunes 6 it will tell you that all your music is formatted for iTunes 7 and the program won't even open.
    4) Fourth, go here and download iTunes 6.0.5
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/itunes605.html
    5) Install iTunes 6.0.5
    6) Open iTunes 6.0.5
    7) In iTunes, Click on File>Add to library... go to that iTunes folder that you stuck in that new folder called "For when Apples fixes iTunes 7" in step 3. Highlight all the albums you want and click Choose or Open or whatever it says
    8) Depending on the volume, it will take a while to copy all the music files. It's a two-step process: first they appear in your iTunes library greyed out, then eventually they are fully copied and become live.
    Good luck!

Somehow the audio output setting in audio midi setup got set to 96000Hz. I changed back to 44100Hz and this seems to have fixed my crashing problem.
I hope this helps some other frustrated peeps.
Normally, you only have to worry about this changing when 3rd party apps are installed, but it sure seems like either the iTunes 7 or Quicktime update were the culprits this time. Another symptom that this setting may be incorrect is that you get no sound at all from flash content.

  • ITunes Freezes/Crashes On MacBook Pro When Connecting iPad

iTunes (v10.7) crashes on my new MacBook Pro Retina (OSX 10.8.2) almost all the time when I connect my iPad Retina (IOS 6.0.1). When i connect via USB, iTunes comes up but the iPad does not appear as a recognizable device. This problem started about a week ago and prior to that there was no problem connecting. What can I do to correct this problem? Is it related to iTunes 10.7? Is it related to a MacBook Pro Retina problem? Is it related to an OSX 10.8.2 problem? Is it related to an iPad Retina problem? Is it related to an IOS 6.0.1 problem?
I have tried using a different iPad-to-Mac USB cable to connect with no success.

Turns out all I had to do was reboot the Mac and the problem was cleared.

    Hi Tom,
My whole computer is crashing and when I run Techtools pro 7 to repair permissions, there are so many files of the latest version of iTunes that are detected to be repaired.

Most likely. These "antiviruses" often cause more harm than they prevent.

  • ITunes freezes/crashes

I bought an iPod Touch (16gb version) for quite a few dollars today for my son. We've been trying to import videos too it for the entire day, i've reformatted all of the videos too MPEG-4 format, downloaded the latest quicktime and everything else the site reccomends. However even after all this each time I attempt to "import a file" to the iTunes library and that file is a video (in any format) iTunes immediatley become unresponsive and stops responding (i've tried waiting 25 minutes).
All of these videos work on WMP and NONE work on Quicktime, i've already tried using Videora and those videos STILL work on WMP but not quicktime. I'm on Vista Home Premium.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

Ugh I feel your pain, I am in the EXACT same situation, whenever trying to add my newly converted videos to Itunes it results in locking up the entire system (only solution is to power off manualy) and the same goes for just trying to view the videos using quicktime.
This is very frustrating as I've wasted an entire day trying to get this working. It is ridiculous that I should pay $15 to download a video from itunes when I already own it. Surely buying from itunes is not the only way to get videos on the touch as that would be completely riduculous. I've used itunes in the past and have always cringed and the thought of having to use it again, this is just another reason why I avoid it whenever possible.
Overall the Ipod touch itself is very nice, but I've been VERY dissapointed by the software.

  • HELP: iTunes 6 unable to sync songs with ipod - hangs freezes crashes

    Hi,
This has been posted before, but a search of 500 messages have turned up no solutions. Anyone who has any idea of a solution please help.
    PROBLEM:
iTunes 6 and ipod 5th gen unable to sync songs or manually move more than 50 songs at a time to ipod. It hangs / freezes / crashes when updating the ipod. It will stop at 50 songs, 100 songs, sometimes even 2200 songs - out of 8000.
The "Beachball of death" comes on, and there is no way to force quit or stop the now frozen update. The only thing that gets a response is pulling the ipod from the dock or powering the computer down manually.
    TRIED:
    1. Repair permissions
    2. Update ipod with latest ipod update software
    3. Restore ipod " " " " '
    4. Used Activity Monitor to see where program hangs - no added info, it will stop randomly at different songs, and next time around it will pick another son to hang / freeze at
    5. uncheck "put hard disks to sleep when possible" in Energy Preferences pane
I am at my wits end with this..... will try anything.... even Voodoo at this point as long as you tell me it worked for you!
Anyone ever solved this long standing problem (which seems to be present with iTunes 7 as well) ?
    Thanks !

  • ITunes keeps crashing and won't let me update to ios 5 + many more problems with iTunes

Here is alist of all my problems:
Whenever I try and sync my iPhone     to my computer it doesn’t work and then my iTunes crashes, there are no     error messages it just freezes and crashes.
After I have done this my iTunes     doesn’t even open and crashes strait away.
My iTunes also crashes     sometimes when I am just trying to move from (for example) music to     movies.
My iTunes also refuses to     access iTunes store (no errors it just doesn’t work).
Sometimes I can get past the     backup issue by cancelling the back up and letting it sync, but no it won’t     even let me do that it freezes and crashes before it can even transfer my purchases.
All thishappens if I can even open up my iTunes.
I amcurrently running ios 4.3.4 as I can even update to ios 5 I am running (tryingto) iTunes 10.5.
I have trieduninstalling and reinstalling iTunes about a 1000 time and it hasn’t doneanything (done as instructed on http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923). I havebeen trough tones of pages on the community and on the other support pages thatapple has but I have found no answers. I have also tried to install an olderversion of iTunes but it just comes up with an error message saying all myfiles are configured to iTunes 10.5 and noting work on that either.
This hasbeen going on for ages and I know there is a lot to deal with in this post butplease if anyone has any ideas, knows, or has dealt with any of the above please help.
    Thank you

I am having the same problem. I'm wanting to update to iOS 7, the 'Update Now' button is available, but it says I can't download due to no Internet connection. I DO have an Internet connection, but either way it won't let me update. Help!

  • I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab.  Everything else seems to work okay in itunes.  I have uninstalled it and reloaded it 4 or 5 times, but still freezes up.

I have Windows 7 and just recently experienced a problem with itunes freezing up when I clicked on the "apps" tab which shows the apps that are loaded on my phone.  Everything else in the itunes software seems to be working okay.  The problem is in the part where you sync the newly purchased apps.  The apps will all be blank that are downloaded and that part of the software crashes itunes or freezes up.  I can get out of itunes okay after the freeze up, but it just stops me from syncing anything that I have newly added.  If anyone has had this problem before or knows someone that has, please let me know how I can fix it.  I have uninstalled and reloaded itunes 4 or 5 times, but the problem is still there.  I might add that I have been using itunes and purchasing apps for 2 to 3 years without any problems.  HELP.

You would get better response from the iTunes community forum.
    Have a nice day!

  • 160gb iPod Classic causes iTunes to freeze/crash

I have a 160gb iPod Classic and when plugged in the USB, it causes my iTunes to crash. My computer recognizes the iPod when plugged in but iTunes does not recognize the iPod and immediately freezes until I force shut down iTunes.  I have an updated version of iTunes, running it on Windows 7.  The iPod works when I am listening to it; however, there seems to be lagging and slower than normal controls compared to when I first purchased the iPod.  I have an iPod Nano that works while I plug it in the computer and iTunes does not crash.  iTunes also works normally when there is no iPod plugged in as well.

Having essentially the exact same problem. I have an iPod Classic 160GB but everytime I connect it to my laptop, iTunes freezes and I have to close it through Task Manager. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on an Acer Aspire 5551 with an AMD Athlon II P320 Dual-Core Processor.
The iPod plays music fine, although it is a little slower and less responsive than when I first had it (no track skips, just browsing menus). iTunes recognises my 8GB iTouch and remains responsive with that but for some reason it freezes when the Classic is connected. The Classic appears in My Computer but doesn't appear to be recognised by iTunes. As far as I'm aware my iTunes is up to date and it runs fine when nothing, or even my iTouch, is connected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Touch persistently crashing - problems with USB/iTunes/Windows 7?

    Hi!
I received a 64gb Touch for Christmas and have a persistent crashing problem. The Touch appears to be randomly crashing across any app or even just playing music - there seems to be no common link. This could be once in a few hours or repeatedly 4/5 times in succession.
It's possible I have a faulty unit but wonder also if I may have an issue with updating/syncing as any sync that takes a reasonable amount of time disconnects and reconnects several times. I had this on my 1st gen Shuffle also - it's almost as though something is disconnecting the USB port and then reconnecting it. I'll mention at this point that I have no other USB related issues - I can run a backup of several hours to a USB harddisk and have no issues and no other USB device has had any sort of problem. If there is a USB issue, it's only happening with iTunes and my iPod(s).
My theory then is that the initial upgrade of the Touch to 3.1.2 on first sync is being corrupted in some way because of the disconnecting issue and that then is causing the crashing as the os is unstable. The Touch has been reinstalled 3 times since purchase and each time having the disconnection issue appear and the resulting persistent crashing.
Hopefully someone can tell me I'm wrong/right in my theory and maybe suggest a way I can fix the disconnection problem so I can at least try a clean reinstall of the Touch and see if that solves the crashing problem before I send the unit back.
    Cheers!

I bought my iPod Touch 32gb last week and as soon as I plugged it in iTunes told me to update to v3.1.2 (came with v3.1.1 installed.) I accepted to install v3.1.2 and it finished installing then restarted. It flashed up in iTunes then disconnected and the ipod went blank, then came up with the apple log for about 1 or 2 minutes, then flashed up again in itunes. It then kept restarting and dissapearing. I left it doing this for about 15 minutes then unplugged the usb lead. It then restarted and all seemed fine.
I had put a couple of albums on. Then I sorted out some more music and done another sync & the **** thing got stuck in the restart loop again.
This was on my laptop which has Windows vista.
I then thought maybe the update to v3.1.2 had gone wrong so i reinstalled it on my main pc. It didn't get stuck in the restarting loop so I thought I had solved the problem. I put my music on my main pc (Windows 7) and done a resync and the blasted thing got stuck in restart loop again.
My son bought his 8GB touch this week and his came with v3.1.2 allready installed and he hasn't had a single problem with it. I hadn't downloaded any apps for mine but he has loads of them and it hasn't crashed once.
I am taking mine back to the shop tomorrow as i have had it less than 10 days.
Am not sure what it is but it is very annoying. I hope the replacement i get works properly.

  • ITunes freezes then crash when accessing iTunes store

I have this problem since a couple of weeks ago.
When I try to go in the iTunes store, iTunes freezes, then it closes unexpectedly (it takes a couple of minutes to close).
I don't get an error message but it slows down my computer a lot.
    iTunes version 10.3
Using iPod Touch & iPhone 4 on it (crashes occur whenever my devices are connected or not)
    Windows XP (up-to-date)
Videocard NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti (latest driver installed - 275.33)
Antivirus bundle : Norton 360 Premier Edition (up-to-date)
I tried searching for an answer, but the only things repeated as a solution is the "videocard driver" and mine is the latest NVIDIA version.
So I'm lost and, let's say, very unhappy as I cannot search or download anything.
    Any help would be welcome.

It seems that no one at Apple is willing to start working on this as I haven't had any feedback from them...
    This is disappointing.

  • Hard drive crashed on my MacBook pro and had to replace drive and logic board.  When I connect my iPhone and try to sync I get a dialog box stating iPhone is synced with another iTunes library, erase and sync?  How do I sync with iTunes without erasing?

Hard drive crashed and had to replace drive and logic board on my MacBook pro.  After Install tried to sync with my iPhone and a dialog box pops up stating "this iPhone synced with another iTunes library, erase and sync?".  I checked the manually manage music and videos box because I don't want all my wife's pics and music on my iPhone.  How do I Sync without erasing what I have on my iPhone???

    How crap is that?
    It's not crap at all.
It's not that simple. For example, I've 3500 songs on my MacBook but don't want them all on my phone, so I have to manually select each song again???
There has to be a solution.
Why not simply make a playlist with the songs you want on the iPhone?
and maintain a current backup of your computer.

  • My computer crashed and I lost everything on it. Got a new computer and when I plug my Iphone in it says I this phone is already with another itunes library erase and replace.. I don't want to lose everything on my phone cuz there is nothing in my itunes

My Computer crashed and I lost everything on it. It says I must earse and replace with new itunes I don't want to lose everything on my phone by doing this is there anything else i ca do

That's what backups are for. Use Time Machine. It's free and external drives are cheap. To recover your iPhone's content requires the use of third party utilities. Success is not guaranteed. Read:
