Another keyboard?

hi all,
i am thinking about buying an imac when leopard comes out. I have been to the apple store, and have used an imac. One thing i dont like is the keyboard. It feels really weird. Is there another keyboard for mac not made by apple?

After mavericks updating ,i cant pair my wireless keyboard keyboard working but just not pairing  , plus my mac is logged out for logging in to reach the preferences  i need my keyboard back any help would be here? Ps: i dont have another keyboard to connect .

    For the both of you.
Turn your Mac on, wait until the login screen appears.
Turn off your keyboard, wait several seconds. Hopefully a "Keyboard turned off" or "Keyboard disconnected" comes up. Then remove the batteries.
Turn the Mac off then turn it back on.
When it turns back on, it should say missing keyboard or something of the sort. Put the batteries back into the keyboard and turn it back on. Hopefully it should start talking again.
It sounds like you two have a Mac that doesn't have a built-in keyboard. So you could easily reset the SMC...

  • Another keyboard bug

    Hi,
While the "dead key" bug is still not fixed in LR2 (although already
reported in LR 1 and LR2 beta), there's another problem with the Tab
    key.
I use the Alt-Tab combo under Windows to switch from an application to
another. If I use Alt-Tab to switch from LR to another app, LR ignores
the Alt key - which is currently depressed - and just see the Tab key,
and therefore it modifies the user interface layout accordingly (as if I
had hit the Tab key only) just before Windows switches to the other
    application I have selected. Irritating.
It's another sign that LR installs its own keyboard handler, which is
far from being perfect (at least under Windows).
But the "dead key" bug is from far more annoying and I don't understand
why they are unable to fix this - but well, it's just affecting those
not having a US keyboard layout, so maybe it's not a problem for Adobe?
We are just paying more for less quality :-( .
    Patrick
PS: For those who are not aware of it: The "dead key" bug makes
impossible to enter any character that requires a dead key to be
produced. For example, to enter " ê " on a french keyboard, you need to
    hit " ^ " and then " e ". In LR, this yields " ^^e " instead of " ê ".
Same problem with other european keyboard layouts and other special
characters. So you have to use the old Alt + Code trick in order to
enter those characters (and you also have to remember these codes - very
    modern UI, indeed).
I find surprising that a software that has reached this high level of
quality is still suffering from such a stupid bug that has been reported
    since a very long time.

  • Another keyboard issue

"Clumsy fingers" might explain it, but I'm constantly hitting a wrong combination of (various) keys.
Often, in writing email, I'll touch something I shouldn't, and the system opens another reply, and hides the one I was working on. I have to close the new one, minimize Email, and find my original.
Other times, I'll be typing along and suddenly the cursor jumps somewhere (again, my clumsy fingers I'm sure), and the recent set of letters I type will appear in the paragraph above, in the middle of a line. I have to erase, come back down, restart where I left off.
The key combo(s) I'm hitting are probably considering a "feature." But not by me. I would really like to relax my fingers and hands and wrists a bit rather than constantly having to worry about hitting wrong keys.
Q: Is there any way to turn off, or at least minimize, this "feature?"

I think this is exactly what is happening. But with the new "feature" that allows me swipe one, two, three or four fingers on the trackpad . . . the "ignore accidental input" is now gone.
Is there a list of such shortcuts? I sometimes pull up the visible keyboard on the desktop, but I'm not fast enough to catch my mistakes there. Seems it could be added. As a new feature.
I also downloaded Key Cue, which gives me a tantalizingly short view of shortcuts available, in different programs, each time I hold down the Command key.
But I haven't found (1) a list that will stay long enough for me to use it, and (2) an explanation of how to kill lots of keyboard shortcuts that I don't use.

  • Another keyboard lock issue: 8800, upgraded to 4.5

    Evening folks,
I'm having a problem with locking my keyboard. I can assign the Convenience Key to lock the keyboard, but Alt-Enter won't do the job. I've removed the Alt-Enter option from the Language menu. I've also removed the battery, sim, and memory card for over 2 minutes and that didn't work either. Having the Conv key lock the keyboard is a pain because I have large hands and am always hitting the Conv key (and I'd rather have the Conv key load Google Maps). Anyone have any suggestions?

I have the same issue. It drives me crazy. Sometimes it goes away and sometimes it comes back. But when phone is in sleep, when I press a button, it takes sometimes up to 5 seconds before the screen turns on!

  • Another keyboard thread...

Well, I've read many threads as to a similar problem I'm having, but nothing exactly like it...
I'm working on a MacBook Pro, and when at home I use one of the new Aluminumem keyboards, but am not too happy with it, here's why:
I want to use the function keys as their defult settings - no volume control, no exposé, whatever. So I turn on that option in the system prefs...
But with that option turned on, my Arrow keys work as Pg Up, Pg Dn, Home, and End keys, the "backspace" delete key works backwords - a frontwaty delete. Basically it works like the laptop keyboard if the fn key is constantlly being pressed. Very cannoying, I just want to do an insert edit without holding the fn button.
Note: I delibertlly left words misspelled as a tribute to my frusteration of the afore mentioned problem...

I forgot to mention this only is an issue with "Sticky Keys" turned on, due to my physical condition this is an option I cannot operate without...

  • Eject key not working - Tried another keyboard

Suddenly my eject key is not working. I have tried holding it for several seconds. The eject logo shows up on my desktop. Itunes can open the drive, toast can open the drive, eject menu can open the drive. A second aluminum keyboard will also not open the drive.
Since the drive can be opened by software, I need to know what system file to open and what code to look at so I can fix this thing I have read lots of temporary fixes in the forums here (use iTunes or the menu extras eject script) but I want a real solution. It used to work and I want to know why it stopped.
Is there a way to examine keyboard mapping or something??
    Thanks

Apple authorized service provider has replaced the logic board due to various weird problems including sudden loss of startup chime, freeze on waking from sleep and memory issues.
During the repair event (it was an event let me assure you!) the service people noticed the Superdrive was plugged into the number 2 position on the ribbon and since there was nothing in the number one spot, the eject key didn't work. I had tried holding the option key while pressing eject (for drive position 2) but that didn't work either so not sure if switching to connector #1 or new logic board solved this problem, but the DVD tray now opens and closes using the Media Eject Key!!!

  • Another keyboard questions

I know this question may have been ask a lot. But, I can't seem to get my garageband to recognize my yamaha YPG-225 keyboard. Any ideas?
    thanks

I think the experts here will be asking you for more information, such as what interface you are using, etc.
I had a similar problem with getting my Roland FP3 to speak to my iMAC using Cakewalk MIDI-interface. It turns out that the driver software that came with Cakewalk does not support Snow Leopard so had to go to Roland's website to download the appropriate software. Worked perfectly after that.

  • Another keyboard question.

I am looking for a way to play the software instruments included in GB and the JamPacks. I have tried the onscreen keyboard, and muical typing, but some chords simply are too diffacult to play on a computer keyboard. Would something like the M-Audio Oxygen 8 v2 25-Key USB MIDI Controller work?
If so, is it easy to use? I already own a Casio keyboard that is not compatable with a Mac, so I am looking for something that is fairly compact and relatively inexpensive. Anyone have any ideas?
MacMini (intel)   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If I might offer an alternate suggestion that's actually cheaper than the one you were looking at, this keyboard is the most popular one in these forums. It is plug and play, no drivers, no power cord, just plug in the USB cable and it works. I've had mine for more than 2 years now and love it.

  • Another keyboard problem!

Hi. Unfortunately, I broke the return (enter) key on my keyboard off and when i tried to put the scissors back on they broke. I bought a replacement return key from a powerbook site but i realized that i don't have the rubber part under the key cap either. What can I do to fix this? Does my 1 year warranty cover my keyboard? If so, do I bring it in to an apple store? If I do, do they replace only the keyboard without affecting my data? Thank you!

They can replace the keyboard without affecting your data, yes. It won't be covered under warranty because you inflicted the damage as opposed to it being a manufacturing defect.

  • Another keyboard Finder related question!

My keyboard stopped working in Finder last week.
I see a number of other discussions were going about this but either thier problem was not the same as mine or the solutions given were not available to me, such as rebooting from a disc.

Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • Another keyboarding issue question

Hello everyone. I have had my macbook pro for a little over a year now and have had no problems with it until now. Today I was on the internet and realized that the click function on my track pad doesn't work (the function I mean is actually tapping the track pad, not pressing the long click button on the bottom). After i find this out, I also realize that my b button doesn't work. So i try typing some things in and along with the text I type, my text is full of b's making it seem like my b button is stuck, but i didn't even press the b button. Just recently the same thing happened with the v button. This problem is off and on and any help is greatly appreciated

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The first thing to look at is your battery--is it bulging? A bulging battery can press on the MBP from below and cause the sorts of problems you are having. Bulging batteries are a known issue, and if you have one, you can get a free replacement from Apple.
    Good luck!

  • How do I change an apple bluetooth keyboard to a different computer?

I use an Imac and a Macbook Pro, and recently my laptop broke. To help with the problem, Apple unplugged my trackpad and internal keyboard. I have a bluetooth mouse I can use instead of my trackpad but I don't have another keyboard. I decided to use my blutooth keyboard that came with my Imac, I just have to move my files to an external hard drive.
Here's my question: How do I make it so my bluetooth keyboard (which currently is being used for my Imac) will disconnect from my Imac and connect to my Macbook? I'm sorry if it's kind of a stupid question but I couldn't find any pages on it so I have to ask here. I just have to do it for a bit until I can get my mac properly fixed.
    Thanks,
    Dan

You must go to System Prefernces, Bluetooth in the iMac and unpairing the keyboard.  Then go to the same on the MacBook Pro and pair the keyboard.  You must do that back and forth every time you want to switch computer.

  • Use the new aluminium keyboard on a PC with Windows XP

    Hello all,
That post is describing the problems I have when using the new apple aluminium keyboard on a PC using the windows XP keyboard drivers found on the boot camp CD (1.4)
This is my first post here so please be kind with me
First, let me know in case there is a better section where I should post that post.
I know that what I will ask here may not be a supported scenario. I understand that. But anyway. Here it is.
I am using Windows XP on a PC not a mac computer.
I bought one of the new aluminium keyboards. I love it, it's excellent. I know that the box says it requires mac os X 10.4 and up... I understand al that.
Because it is an USB keyboard, I thought I like it, let's try it on a PC. It worked but the letters on the keyboard are not placed like those on a PC.
Then I tought, why not use the driver for that keyboard provided on the bootcamp CD. I bought the keyboard. I own all my licences, so why not?
First I had a lot of troubles extracting those drivers from the bootcamp CD. I use Transmac for that.
A long story short. It's working and I'm typing that post right now on my cool keyboard.
so why am I here? Because it's not working perfectly.
All the keys are working perfectly, only the companion softwares are not.
I'm unable to launch the bootcamp dashboard, I have the icon in my systray but when I try to open the dashboard I get:
    Boot Camp
An error occurred while trying to access the startup disk settings.
You may not have privileges to change the startup disk. Make sure you have administrative privileges and try again.
    OK
I understand that. I guess this is related to the boot camp dual boot feature.
I guess that if this was working I could access to the bootcamp option panel and eventually have the opportunity to get access to the keyboard options? maybe I'm guessing wrong.
So, what I'm asking here is for the apple developpers working on the windows drivers for the apple hardware.
Do you think that you could test your drivers on PCs ? I'm pretty sure you could sell some more keyboard to the PC peoples as your keyboards are trully excellent.
The 'problems' I have are the following:
    - I cannot lock or unlock the fn key, what I would like to do is use the F7 to F12 keys by default and press the fn key if I ant to access to the scpecial features, like for sound and CD eject
    - kbrd.exe does not always start automaticaly. And when I start it by hand my computer freezes for about ten seconds
    - the keyboard layout should only be changed for the apple keyboard, not for all the keyboards connected to the PC. Because I have two keyboards attached to my computer, my previous pc keyboard and the new apple keyboard. The layout on the PC keyboard is now the same as for the apple keyboard. this is wrong as it renders my previous keyboard useless. why do I need another keyboard? because that other one is cable less, meaning I can use it to control my PC when I'm not in front of it. But now, with the apple keyboard drivers this is not longer possible
    - an option to have to press fn+eject to eject the CD would be nice. this will avoid me pressing eject by accident when I try to press the back delete key
    - also as the drivers exist, why not let people like me download them outside of bootcamp for the kind of scenario I'm describing here?
That would all be very nice.
If you need a tester for that scenario, count on me,
Thank you for your comprehension about me asking such a question
I love that keyboard and do not intend to stop using it,
    John.

    Hello spidermains,
Happy to see that I have a friend in that adventure
Look I have a blog entry here:
    http://www.happytocode.com/post/Can-I-use-the-new-Apple-USB-Aluminium-keyboard-o n-Windows.aspx
That post describes all the steps I followed to extract the drivers from the dual boot camp CD.
I'm using a PC, only a PC. I do not have any Apple computer (yet).
When I mention boot camp, I mean the boot camp CD on one side and the boot camp utilities on the other side. To be more specific the tool I'm talking about is the kbrmgr.exe
That tool sits in the systray and is handling the special keys of the keyboard.
If you have other questions... let me know,
    John.

  • IPhone 6 Plus - remove extra keys on keyboard in landscape mode

is there a way to remove the extra keys that appear on the keyboard in Landscape mode? I would rather the extra keys are not there so that the letter keys are larger? thanks

There is no way to modify the existing keyboard. However, iOS 8 allows for adding third party keyboard. Search the App Store. Another keyboard may better suit you.
