Another Mountain Lion Crash
Hi,
I have just had Mountain Lion crash, and not for the first time in the last few weeks. Neither the keyboard or trackpad were responding so I had to do a hard reset.
There was no crash report, but I have copied the following from the console report, there are a few recurring errors, but can anyone suggest what may have gone wrong?
Thks

Hi,
I think these were the last messages before I rebooted. The Mac froze just as I was opening an incoming mail (ironically it was from Apple Support re another issue). The only programmes I had open were iTunes, Mail and Print programme.
The only devices connected were the wired keyboard and printer and NAS connected through network.
It initially crashed around 7.40pm, but I didn't reboot until around 20:20 after dinner. I have posted some of the messages around the time of reboot (immediately below) and other messages further down when it crashed around 19.40
All help gratefully received.
Russ

Mountain Lion Crashes on resume from sleep
Is anyone else having problems with Mountain Lion crashing frequently on resume from sleep? I have tried using both the default "sleep and hibernate" mode and switching to hibernate only. In both modes, OSX "gray" screens just after it appears to finish resuming from sleep mode. This is an Early 2011 MBP 15" with a clean Lion upgraded to Mountain Lion.
It is starting to look like another failed upgrade, "sigh". I haven't had any luck with OSX OS upgades and always seems like I end up rebuilding.Same happening here. I also have a problem with Mail.app crashing when I close the window with cmd+w. My upgrade to Mountain Lion was applied Lion that had been migrated from my old MacBook.
The migrated setup was working fine for just over a week before I upgraded to Mountain Lion. Unfortunately I didn't check that Time Machine was backing up my machine and it turns out I don't have that as an option of rolling back to Lion.
Hoping that a fix is found to both problems. Fairly confident given that other people are reporting the same, even on a clean upgrade. -

My brand new Mac Pro running Mountain Lion crashes when installing updates or new software.
My brand new Mac Pro running Mountain Lion crashes and re-boots when installing updates or new software. I can only perform these operations while in the safe boot mode. I have reloaded OSX twice. Does not solve the problem. The machine is brand new. It replaced a previous MacPro that would not support the new Mountain Lion. When my new machine came in. I swaped the dirve out of my old unit into the new and ran the new Lion update. The machine has had this aforementioned problem since that time. Also, I had the Legacy version of File Vault running on the old machine/drive, which I also turned off(thinking that was the problem) but that did not fix the problem either.
Here is my panic log entry:

Mountain lion crashes, with firefox as well
Hi,
having seen others having problems with crashing Mountain Lion, my issue seems to be slightly different. I am running 10.8.3, so the alleged Safari 6 issue should have been fixed already. However, Mountain Lion keeps on crashing horrendously often in Safari (which I now have stopped using), but, annoyingly, it also crashes in Firefox (version 19.0.2), even if not as often (but still often enough to be incredibly irritating). The screen just goes black without any warning in the middle of using a website. Initially, I thought it was an issue with Flash (fully updated as is Java), but the problem persists even on websites with no videos running.
Would really appreciate help on this.
NMIf you are having the same problem with multiple browsers, then the problem is probably something common to both browsers. Like something in your internet plugin folders, which are /Library/Internet Plugins and ~/Library/Internet Plugins. You could remove the plugins and see if the problem is fixed. Here is a reference: Safari 6 (OS X Mountain Lion): If you need to remove a plug-in
if that doesn't work, I suppose I'd try some routine maintenance/troubleshooting maneuvers, like a safe boot, a test user account, repairing permissions, and repairing my hard disk.

Formatting my HD very slow after Mountain Lion crash
Hello everyone, I downloaded Mountain Lion and everything was great. Suddenly, all my apps crashed at the same time. I couldn't even Force Quit so I decided to turn the mac off by pressing the button. After that, when I turned it on it never started the OS, what I had was the Apple Logo and a spinning icon.
I backed up some files I needed into another computer via Firewire (those files were very very slow when copied, like for 600 MB 2 hours).
Now I am trying to erase the disk so I can do a Clean Install of ML but it is taking forever. I am afraid it's a HD issue. I read this problem was caused by Sophos antivirus so that makes a little bit happier.
Is it normal that it takes so long to erase the disk? It has been like for 15 minutes.
Thanks in advance for your help guys.It depends on what options you chose for erase. If you chose any kind of overwrite 15 minutes may not be unreasonable (certainly no on a 7-pass overwrite, but even on a single pass overwrite 15 minutes could be used up depending on the size of your disk and how full it was).
From your description, I have to say I'd suspect a HD failure rather than Sophos. Still, if you're wiping the disk we'll never know till you try to reinstall and see how you get on. If you choose to migrate from a backup, you'll have to start up in Safe Mode (hold down the shift key while powering on) to make sure Sophos gets bypassed. Actually, try 'shift-command-v' while you power on, which will show you the log as it boots up. You might get some clue as to where its hanging, if it hangs. -
Mountain Lion crashes regularly on my MacBook Pro (2010)
Hi guys,
I am really frustrated as my MacBook Pro crashes almost twice a day since I updated to Mountain Lion. Either I doesn't wake up when it's in Sleep Mode (I have to restart it via the on/off switch) or it just crashes, while I am working, showing a grey screen.
After the last crash I've copied the report, which is sent to Apple:

Can anybody please give me a hint? I cannot completely reinstall Mountain Lion as I am currently writing on my final thesis...
Thanks so much,
downundersurferI would start by removing whatever application you are using from Rogue Amoeba. Audio Hijack has caused issues in the past so if that's the app you have from Rogue, then uninstall it for a while to see if this helps to stop the crashes.

Mountain lion crash when opening logic photobooth and lost all my music in itunes.
Why are apple apps crashing in Mountain Lion. Logic, Photobooth, iphoto and lost all my music in Itunes?
you might need to reinstall ML from the Recovery Partition.
To get to the recovery partition restart your computer, hold CMD+R down when you hear the boot up chime. Open Disk Utility first (verify your boot disk and repair if needed) and then close it and reinstall ML. -

Well this is the report, wish you can help me and tell me what I need to do, its quite difficult to find a support in Argentina for Mac!You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. You might be able to resolve the problem by reinstalling OS X. Try that first, if you haven't done so already. Otherwise, you may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching in the Energy Saver preference pane, but that's not a solution. -
Mountain Lion crashes when going into deep sleep?
Hey guys,
I recently upgraded to mountain lion from lion on a late 2011 MBP.
I have no problems during the day time with anything, but when I leave the computer to sleep overnight it doesn't wake up in the morning.
It shuts down and when I try to turn it on it gives me a pattern of 3 consecutive beeps. Sometimes it doesn't give me any beeps and just gives me a grayed out login screen and a bar loading on the bottom. In the latter case, it does eventually wake up but with the beeps it's a no go and I have to hold the power button to restart it. I never had any of these problems in Lion. Any thoughts as to what this could be?
I tried PRAM, SMC Reset and creating a new user account. I also ran an extended Apple hardware test which reported no issues.
This is the log preceding the crash/shutdown:

I can't deal with this issue, because I like to use my macbook to charge devices overnight and that's not possible with it shutting down. So if there is no solution what's the best way to go back to Lion?
Am I the only one with this issue?
Thanks for any help.It sure would be useful to be able to look up these Failure codes. Searching apple's site like this produces strange, useless results.
I see Failure code:0x1F006500, like the OP; googling for it brought me here.
Similarly:
I recently upgraded to mountain lion from SL on a MacBookPro4,1 -early 2008 MBP (expired AppleCare), and switched to booting off an SSD in the ExpressCard/34 slot.
When I leave the computer to sleep overnight it doesn't wake up in the morning. It is completely off, and boots from scratch when I turn it on. It can sleep briefly.
I have NOT tried PRAM, SMC Reset or creating a new user account, or run an extended Apple hardware test.
From the output of pmset -g log
9/27/12 7:39:04 AM PDT Sleep
Sleep (Failure code:0x1F006500): Using BATT (Charge:48%)
Strangely, there's no mention of 'hibernate' in my log files after 19:03 last night, even though I was up 'till 'round midnight.

I suppose that means something sent it the kill -9 signal. I wonder what. -
Hi all.
I have discovered another bug in Mountain Lion.
I have Adobe Creative Suite 6 Installed (including InDesign CS6) and have had to also install my old InDesign CS4 to work with clients that use it.
I have chosen an InDesign document that was created in CS4 (and hasn't been opened in CS6) and right clicked - 'Get Info'
Changed the 'Open With' default from CS6 to CS4.
So far so good.
I then clicked "Change All", I get the confirmation message box, and as soon as I click "Yes, please change All to CS4" It immediately changes the default setting back to CS6.
If I change the "Open with" default for a file to CS4, and leave it at that, it works fine for that file,
but the "Change All" function seems to be broken.
The Change All function seems to work fine on Leopard and Snow Leopard. I haven't tried Lion, but I suspect that is where the trouble starts. (It has with other bugs.).
Any light that any of you could shed on this, or even fixes involving the Terminal and the Unix commands, would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for your time.
Also this forum has a problem with the question form.
below it has asked me for my product - "Macbook Pro"
Then Operating System - and it gives me a choice of iOS from 4 to 7
As far as I know, Apple hasn't inflicted mobile phone operating systems on computers. yet.
perish the thought.Change All works quite well for me for every version of Mountain Lion and on several different computers. It's not an OS X problem. You have some other problem such as possible file permissions' issues. You might try repairing ACLs and permissions in your Home folder by using the "resetpassword" Terminal command that you may access via the Recovery HD. You will not be resetting passwords, btw.
Reset User Permissions and ACLs in Lion/Mountain Lion
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
From the Utilities menu select Terminal. At the Terminal prompt enter: resetpassword. Press RETURN. When the window opens select your startup drive where it says "Select the volume containing the user account:" At the bottom of the window you will see, "Reset Home folder permissions and ACLs." Click on the Reset button. -
Montaigne lion crashed my MacBook I get nothing but a gray screen
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Press Option key on boot and press Macintosh HD. If you don't see that, press Command and R keys on boot and reinstall OS X Mountain Lion -
Safari on Mountain Lion crashes constantly
Hey Guys,
since I upgraded to Mountain Lion, safari crashes. Not like sometimes, but rather like 5-10 times a day.
I've read a lot of apple discussions about this problem and tried a few things, but no solution seems to work. I don't run any extension except for a plugin from my antivirus (avast!), which does not seem to be the problem, since safari also crashes when I disable the plugin.

This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of steps 1 and 2. -
here with chronological review of what happened
26/7 downloaded Mountain Lion, which took abt 20 hrs
very happy with the new features
after about a week, things on my computer got slower. So via checking the internet, I managed to find a solution and reloaded Mountain Lion after using first the recovery Disk.
Everything worked fine again for a week, then started again. I tried to do the same thing again like last time it crashed, but now I cannot reload because error message says that HD is locked and I dont know how to unlock.
2ndly I cannot reboot, after 1 min, seeing the apple logo and a "loadbar" the computer shutsdown again.
I tried option/command/p/r but I dont get any further.
Any suggestions from your side?
I have my Imac since medio July 2011 and was happy with Lion but excited to have an improved Mountain Lion. But now I am stuck and not that happy anymore.
Hope someone can give a suggestion which solves my problem. If not I have to bring it back to the shop.
Tks, Gfind a solution and reloaded Mountain Lion after using first the recovery Disk.
And it no longer boots from that either?
If not I think you'll have to take it in, but one last thing to try...
Does it boot to Single User Mode, CMD+s keys at bootup, if so try...
/sbin/fsck -fy
Repeat until it shows no errors fixed.
(Space between fsck AND -fy important).
Resolve startup issues and perform disk maintenance with Disk Utility and fsck...

Preview using Mountain Lion Crashes
Issue: Double click on a jpg and it opens in Preview just fine. Go to File/Print and it immediately crashes.
Only started this after I updated to Mountain Lion. Have checked Software Updates but no updates available.
Any suggestions? The same file opens fine on a co-workers mac who is still on Lion and hasn't upgraded yet.Can you post the crash log?
