*Mozilla dropping 10.4 support with next Firefox release*
Users of the open source Web browser who are still using Tiger will be able to continue to use Firefox 3.6 for as long as they want, but the browser will stop receiving updates "several months" after the release of the next major update. This means that any security issues found in the browser after that date would be unlikely to be addressed by the team, and, in turn, left unpatched.
As far as I can tell, this means Firefox 3.7

So, how much longer will Mozilla's Camino support Tiger 10.4.11?
I think Camino's developers are a relatively small, independent assortment of dedicated individuals for whom it's more a hobby, spare time activity; although, I'd imagine some of them put in very long hours. I think they get some help from Mozilla for such things as the code for and use of the gecko engine and some forum space. My impression is they don't get too much more than that, or much development help, if any.
They only just brought out a rather nice, speedy 2.0.1 which uses an updated gecko version (compared to the 1.6), and it took them a rather long time in beta before that shipped. My guess--and this is only a guess--is Camino, especially since it's Mac targeted, will not be in danger of dropping Tiger support any time soon.
If Firefox really becomes insecure, Camino could be a real option. But there's no NoScript for it--only a very limited NoScript wannabe that seems to be nothing more than an on off toggle for Javascript.

What matters is the version of iPhoto you have on the different machines. Can you tell us what they are, and what exact error message you get.

I bought the Tiger woods 12 game for my ipad and also paid the 19.99 for the $2M. It has crashed my ipad a few times and when it restarted last time, it had no history of my progress or the $2M. How do I get my history back or my money back for the game and the in-game expenses?
The only one that can issue a PUK code is a carrier, which you've already made clear you don't have.
If itunes does not recognise your ipad that may be another issue. What version OS is on your computer and what steps did you follow to uninstall itunes and then reiinstall itunes on your computer?
And, do you at least see the sidebar on the left hand side of itunes?

IBook died. Panthr. Can to save/transfr info to another Mac? with Tiger?
Let's say a person for some reason didn't have a back up.
And then his iBook G4 stopped working and was advised not worth fixing cuz could buy a better, upgraded, but used Mac computer.
Can his info, all his docs and bookmarks and favorites, etc., everything, still be transfered from broke iBook to another Mac (a better mac, tho used.)?
Just take out the hard disc with all the info and somehow transfer that to a better mac?
And could he do that even tho his old Mac was Panther, and if a replacement mac had Tiger or Leopard on it? Would that work? Or would he have to remove Tiger or Leopard from the newer Mac and replace it with Panther to accept transfer of his older contents. And then assume he would have to go through normal upgrade procedures from Panther.

But so thankful for your help.Some of the answers depends upon the "better mac". The other big question is why did the other computer die? Was it the drive that failed, in which case there is no point?
To keep it simple, in all likelihood you couldn't just swap the drives and expect it to boot another computer unless the new one happened to be identical to the first. What would be easy would be to put that drive into an external enclosure, or get one of those adapter things that don't need an enclosure, and copy off all your files, or just turn it into an external drive for backup, etc. Since this drive is coming from a laptop I don't think it will fit in a desktop without an adapter, and laptops don't have room for two drives (I don't think, never having owned one myself). You can have two drives attached to a computer, or even in a computer. The format of your old drive is compatible with Tiger and Leopard for the purposes of reading files, but as I said before I wouldn't try to boot from it, especially not if the new computer is a new Intel machine.
If it were me, I would get an external firewire enclosure, and put the drive in it. I would then attach it to my new computer and copy off my data files. I would then wipe the old drive and use it for backup or data storage. Some of this will also depend upon the size of the old drive. If it is a 20GB drive it is hardly worth the trouble of continuing to use it and the expense of an enclosure and I would just find (maybe borrow) a suitable enclosure for long enough to copy off data files. -
The Tiger 10.4.10 Musicians Thread
Dear fellow mac users,
I have an unopened macbook dual-intel sitting at home, my first mac, bought soley for music recording purposes. I bought this mac as they have worldwide acclaim in this field.
So I'm currently out of the country and am leisurley deciding on audio interfaces and music software. Looking at ProTools LE systems on my favourite hardware site i notice the following in capitals above product description : **WILL NOT INSTALL ON 10.4.10 OR HIGHER**.. I think 'that's odd', but shrug it off as no drivers available yet.
So I do some more sleuthing and:
In the last 2 days I have read many distressed users (including music professionals) saying that the latest Tiger update, 10.4.10, will not accept ANY (as far as I can see) audio interfaces including ProTools and the ever popular M-audio line. Even reports of system failure from reputable music institutes who rely on Intel-based macs for ALL music recording purposes!
I'm very worried that my unopened macbook won't see the light of day, I'll have to pack it up, get a refund and buy another PC for the job.
Could somebody please tell me im blowing this out of proportion and it will be fixed in a few days??
I urge everyone to post their audio based problems with 10.4.10 on this thread, then maybe Apple engineers will notice them - I've not yet seen any articles or noticed any activity to fix this problem.
I'm going crazy here!

EDIT: I assume my unopened mac will have 10.4.10 pre-installed? It's only just arrived and was ordered directly from apple last week.

They go on to say that the only known issue at this time has to do with Pro Tools failure to launch in some cases due to improper pre-binding. For more information, see this web page.
As to any other audio software, that would be something to take up with the vendor for details. I've not heard of blanket problems with 10.4.10, though. -

That only works if the printer is itself a network printer. You can't do it if it is directly connected to another computer on the network unless it is configured to be a Shared Printer on the other computer.

I tried to download a movie on my iPod touch but due to limited space, it did not download. Then, I checked my credit card online, and I found the money was already taken. How will I get it to download on another device with the same account? Also, I was wondering why they took my money even when it did not finish downloading let alone get downloaded?

Load another sound in the same sound object

I am loading a sound like this:

When an event occurs (button click actually) I would like to stop playing the first sound and playing another sound in the same object. So I try doing this:

but it does not work. The first sound keeps playing. I havent understood something probably.. Can someone help me ??ok, i solved my problem. It works like:

How can I eject my ipod when neither itunes not the "safe to eject" button will allow it. Itunes says "...cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." The safe to eject button says "The device 'generic volume' cannot be stopped because a program is still accessing it." The has never happened before. The only thing new is that I added an iPad yesterday. Thanks.
Go to your computer's System Tray and try ejecting. If you can't eject, there is an application that is trying to access your iPod.
Go to http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx and download ProcessExplorer.
Go to http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555665 and follow the instructions under Resolution.
Note that this is a good, general process any time you can't access any file.
In my case an update to RealPlayer installed a program called RecordingManager that was accessing my iPod. -
While trying to copy one of my iPhoto libraries to an external hard drive I get the following error message "You can’t copy “iPhoto Library old” because it has the same name as another item on the destination volume, and that volume doesn’t distinguish between upper- and lowercase letters in filenames." There is no other file on the external drive with this name. I have asked this question before and was told that there are some duplicate photos (files) in my library and I needed to go to "show file contents" and look at certain files to find duplicates and delete the duplicates. I did all of this and the library will still not copy and always stops copying in the exact same place on each attempt. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
You've been deleting your actual Photos.
Don't change anything in the iPhoto Library Folder via the Finder or any other application. iPhoto depends on the structure as well as the contents of this folder. Moving things, renaming things, deleting them or otherwise making changes will prevent iPhoto from working and could even cause you to damage or lose your photos.
Best way forward now is to recover the surviving Originals from this library and start over from scratch.

Radio group in classic report based on another column on the same row.

How can I have a radio group column based on an LOV utilizing another column on the same row of the report?
For example: what if I had a survey application and depending on the likert scale that was assigned to the question there would be different possible answer choices:
Question 1 on row 1 of the report: The class instructor was friendly?
Likert scale choice is Agreement.
Choices on Radio Group: Strongly Agree, Agree, Undecided, Strongly Disagree
Question 2 on row 2 of the report: The class offered good materials?
Likert scale choice is Quality.
Choices on Radio Group: Excellent, Below Average, Average, Above Average, Excellent
The radio group can change per row depending on the Likert scale assigned to the question which is assigned to a different column on the row.
Can LOV utilize the column? :

I switched on my PC and there was an update for realplayer. Since then firefox will not open as a window. It is running according to Task Manager. I've downloaded a another copy of the programme using IE but whilst it loaded as a programme, does not open a window.

Helps if I give the correct link ! <br/>The press shift button appears to still work, but the option to start in safe mode from the programs listing of a standard install I do not think exists anymore.
Safe mode will start from a command line, (or a shortcut) and in some circumstances you may need to enter the full path name on a command or shortcut detailed instructions are at http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode
Remember (at least at this stage) do not make changes when you get the options list, just click on the continue button.
If you think that RealPlayer is causing the problem you could uninstall that for now.
Firefox recent versions are 3.6 4.0 (and 5.0 in beta). There is some debate as to whether creating new profiles or re-installing Firefox is the simplest method of troubleshooting and solving some of these problems, personally I use multiple profiles and multiple versions of Firefox, and tend to forget the required procedures are less than straightforward. For now at least try [[safe mode]] again.

But then there was still no Internet access even after I have disconnected all other home computers (a total of four including the Macbook and one iMac desktop. For simplicity, I shall categorically called them Mac hereafter unless otherwise specified. The Macs are operating on WiFi.).
The window message recommends changing the IP of either the Macs or the other device. The latter of course does not apply because I don't think the other device is one of my computers.
My questions:
(1) Why did that happen suddenly since the Mac and other computers on the WiFi was working fine in the morning (as well as days before) and then all of a sudden an unknown device is using my computer's IP? As far as I (we) can remember, we did not do any thing unusual this morning nor had we downloaded any special programs.
(2) How do I change the IP since it requires Internet acess to do it and since I can't access the Internet on the Mac?
(3) I am almost sure the problem is not caused by the Internet service because when I connected the Ethernet cable from the DSL modem to an old Windows PC, I got Internet via Internet Explorer. [I am actually sending out this message via IE on my PC.] However, when I cennected the Ethernet line from the modem to a WiFi router (Airport Extreme) and then connect the router and the old PC, I did not get Internet on either the Mac nor the PC. Similarly, there was no Internet on both Mac and PC If I connect Ethernet only between the modem and the router but not between PC and router. So, the question is whether a third unknown party has gotten hold of my Mac IP address and is trying to break into the Mac? Can it steal my personal info?
(4) How can I repair the Mac now and prevent future recurrences? Is changing the IP address the way to do it? (But like I said before I had tried but could not change the IP because I did not have Internet access on the Mac. Is there an alternative method?)
(5) I wonder if a computer's IP address remains constant if you don't change it. The reason I am asking this question is because the aforesaid window message on the Macbook--not sure about the iMac--shows a different IP address--a few numerical digits were changed--almost every time it pops up following every failure trial of mine to access the Internet. Was the Macbook trying to change the IP for me or was there some thing not right?Re: Another device on the network is using your computer's IP address.
This message/problem was occuring intermittently for me in a household with two MacBooks accessing one Airport extreme. Rebooting the modem and router would only temporarily fix the issue for me, so I spoke with a friend who works for Apple and it seems that the Airport Extreme settings were at the root of our particular issue.
The router(Airport Extreme) recieves only one IP address from the modem and in order to allow it to share the IP address with two computers at once, the solution in my case was through:
Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility>Manual Setup>Internet
under Internet Connection- Select "share a public IP address"
under NAT, check the box for "enable NAT Port Mapping Protocol"
(this will allow the sharing of one public IP address with multiple devices)
if this is a new setting, then click "Update" and the Airport Extreme should reboot itself with new settings applied.
When all else is working properly, this is a satisfactory solution in my case. -

Mountain Lion: Copying mailbox from one user to another user on the same mac
When I bought the mac I had only one email address. Since then I have accumulated 3 more addresses. I created another User on the same MAC to seperate the personal emails from the 3 new email addresses, that I use for business.
There are some mailboxes from the 1st account that has business information in them that I want to move to the 2nd User account (with the 3 e-mail addresses). I though that I could save them in the dropbox and then save them into the 2nd User accounts like I did with the documents and spreadsheets, but this does not work.
I really need to separate the Family Personal email information from the Busines Information and I do not want to just send lots and lots of emails to the accounts to get them there.
I am not using Cloud at the moment because it created some syncing issues. Because the 1st User Account and email account is synced with an iPad and iPhone that my wife uses with an Apple ID. The 2nd User (and 3 mail addresses) are synced with my iPhone and a separate Apple ID. We have separate ID's because she did not want my personal & business contacts seeping into the family email accounts
I know that this is long, but I wanted to provide as much information as possible, so that I can resolve this.

Select Mailbox > Export Mailbox. This asks you a location to export the mailboxes to. It just uploads the exported mailboxes into Dropbox.
Then change the User that I want to import the mailboxes into. Select Import and select the location of where you placed the folder in Dropbox. This then imports the mailbox into a folder called Import. You then drag and drop the copied mailboxes from the Import folder to the folder in the structure you have. If you decide to delete the folders from the import folder list, do this. You can also delete the copied folders from Dropbox if you wish.
Took a while, but I got there and I'm happy now....
