Another Overclock is failed thread! X

Hi all,
As usual a first post from a newbie who "hopefully" has a simple problem.
I have seen several threads with my board and the following text.
" Warning!!! the previous performance of overclocking is failed, and the system is restored to default setting. press any key except "del" to enter setup....."
And I have done most of the recommended things, 1 stick of memory etc. etc.. and I am now thinking that its the bios....
I'm pretty sure all is plugged in correctly, I have found that there are two types of E8400 on the MSI website, one is supported in bios 7.0 and the other says 7.2 or under test. I can't find the page at the moment to confirm.
I got the error message straight away once plugged in, so I have tried all the usual tricks like "underclocking" to see if that does any good and I did manage to get the system to start installing windose, right up until It needed to reboot, now I get the overclock failed message every time no matter what it try?
At the moment the board is not in a case, just sitting on the desk with the bare minimum plugged in to get it working.
So my questions are
1. How can I tell what version of E4800 I have or if the chip I have needs 7.0 or 7.2?
2. if its 7.0 what am I doing wrong?
3. if it is 7.2 how do I flash the bios without being able to boot to windose and without an a: drive?
If I have missed any info please ask as I am really please with this board, its about 5000 times quieter than my last one!

You can tell by looking at the sSpec-Number:
E8400, C0 --> sSpec# = SLAPL [supported since BIOS v7.0]
E8400, E0 --> sSpec# = SLB9J [supported since BIOS v7.2]
The sSpec-number can be found on the CPU itself or on the sticker of the CPU box:

I have a program that sends information(analog output) to lab windows cvi in the form of a text file or user input.
The program runs on the computers that I have the field point explorer and lab windows cvi installed on. In order to run the program without always installing labwindows/cvi and field point; I wanted to create an executable file that could be load on another computer.
I used the create distribution kit part of labwindows/cvi to do this.After creating the distribution kit, I then installed it
to another computer.
My user interface appears on the screen, when the user clicks on the exe. file, but no data is sent to the field point module. I know that the data is being read from the user and textfile because in it appears in the uir.
The following are some details about the problem:
1. On another computer without labwindows/cvi and field point explorer not installed - no data is sent to field point module
I know this because a current is being read on the current meter connected to field point module.
My questions are the following:
1. What are the possible reasons for the data not being sent to the field point module?
2. Do I still need to create an iak. (Installing Field point Explorer) file stored on any new computer that I install my created distribution kit file too?

1) If you do not install FieldPoint Explorer, the FieldPoint Server is not installed so there is nothing on the target computer that knows how to talk to the FieldPoint system.
2) Yes, you need an IAK file on the target computer. Assuming the settings (i.e. com port#) are identical you can simply include the iak file as part of the distribution.
3) You also need to include as part of your installer the file "fplwmgr.dll". If this file is not installed, your program will not be able to access the FieldPoint Server. Alternatively, this file is installed automatically if FieldPoint Explorer detects LabWindows/CVI or Measurement Studio Development versions on the target computer or if you choose to do a custom FieldPoint Explorer installation and
choose to provide LabWindows/CVI support.

I get this error almost everytime i turn off or restart my computer. Thats after I restart my computer 5 times because all I have is a black screen. I read about it and I have to restart that many times as a safety feature for when you overclock and something goes wrong. But my problem is, I am not overclocking, I have reformatted and reset my bios SEVERAL times, so what must i do to make my computer "stop overclocking" its self everytime I restart my computer?
I have a K9N Platinum SLI motherboard
Running Windows XP home
AMD X2 6000.
Corsair 620Watt PSU
One Maxtor 160GB HD
MSI 8800 GTS 640MB
Oh yes, and I have updated all drivers and flashed/updated bios to the latest version per MSI live update.

Don't listen LiveUpdate.. 1.10 = 1.A0 its the same BIOS version...
What memory sticks you use? Provide full details brand, exact model. Have you tried with just one memory stick in 1st DIMM close to CPU socket?

So I woke up this morning and my computer was cycling on and off. I unplugged it, waited a minute, plugged it back in. I booted up and got the "Warning!!! The previous performance of overclocking is failed and the system restored to the default settings...." and it gave me 2 options. So I chose the revert to default and enter settings. The main problem was it kept not recognizing my SSD drive as primary boot. So I changed it to primary, rebooted and got the quick on/off cycling.
So I get on my laptop and google it, I find it's a common issue. Seems like there is a memory issue, sure enough I log into settings and switch it to 1600 speed, enable XMS, reorder the boot priority again, enable ACHI, I also turned off the OC genie. I reboot again and it takes a while but it finally boots up. It takes a few minutes to get into the desktop and load the various start up items.
I can tell it's very sluggish though. Normally if I open any windows it's instant. I open up Chrome, and it's slow, it won't scroll up/down smoothly, it sorta stutters. I tried to open a video and it won't play it, like there's not enough CPU to handle anything. When I reboot it takes a little longer to get into Windows as well. Any suggestions? Did I maybe miss a setting in BIOS? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When you tighten the screws of the cooler pump do each of them a little at a time in a crisscross pattern. Do not tighten each screw all they way down one at a time. Do not tighten screws in either clockwise or counter clockwise pattern.

I just built this computer two months ago and it was running perfect. Then I started getting a black BIOS screen when ever I turned the computer on. It said "Warning! Previous overclocking has failed. Press F1 to go to set up. F2 to reset settings and continue." This confused me because I have never put it into overclock. Soon after when I tried to turn my computer back on it would not boot. It tries to boot up several times and only the fans spin. The only way to stop it is to turn the power switch on the psu off. After all this occurred my psu would no longer work either. I sent both my mobo and psu in for warranty and just now got the new ones back. I put it all together and it was working perfectly. A few days later the same message came up again "Warning! The previous overclocking has failed. Press F1 to go to set up. F2 to reset settings and continue." I reset it to the defaults and all the BIOS are updated but it has happened again. My computer will no longer start up but my psu is still functioning at least this time. I have reset the CMOS, tried one stick of RAM, took the comp apart made sure everything was firmly in place and put it back together, and tried unplugging everything but the basics but still the same issue fans run and it keeps trying to start up over and over and never boots. I refuse to believe that this mobo is broken because it is brand new. I was wondering if there is some sort of compatibility issue or voltage problem but I can't figure out what to do. Please someone give me some help. It is very much appreciated.

Thanks but I finally figured out the problem. The socket is set to 1333MHz and I have my RAM at 1600MHz. I just had to manually clock it higher becasue that is overclocked.

I have read this forum and found some topics with this same problem. There is often recommended set clocking values of DRAM. I have set DRAM Timing by SPD do disable and set clock for following values:
4-4-4-12 (Auto V) – recommanded by manufacturer (A-Data)
4-4-4-12 (1.9V)
5-5-5-15 (Auto V)
5-5-5-15 (1,85)
5-5-5-15 (2,1V)

This attempts was failed. When I turn off Pc and wait about 20 minutes - PC again twice reboot and then it appears massage about overclocking is failed.
I have tried to Load Optimized Defaults as well as Load Fail Safe Defaults, but the situations is the same.
I have tried to flash bios to the latest version 1.9, but the situations was worse – when turn on Pc, it reboot about 7 – 15 times and then appears again massage about overclocking is failed. So, I downgrade to version 1.8.
Could you give me pls somebody some sugesstions?

Ok, I will do a test and give here results.
Maybe I find a solution of my problem. During testing PC I found out following: when I turn off switch on PSU immediately as soon as Windows shutdown PC (I do it always), so at next time booting, PC twice reboot and then it appears massage about overclocking is failed. But when I wait about 10 seconds after Windows shutdown PC and then turn off switch on PSU, at next time booting, PC once reboot (normal state) and everything is OK.

Another workaround for Failed: 3x crash service down

For some of us still using Final Cut Pro Studio 2 with Compressor 3.5, there has only been a couple of workarounds with varied success. I stumbled across another one after spending many hours trying to convert an MPEG4 into Apple ProRes 422. (It would either loop continuously or fail. 4 other clips from the same source)
I had compressor set to "never copy files to/from cluster" and had my original clip on an exterior drive. I set qmaster to use my Mac Pro (2 Dual Core Xeon) as a virtual cluster. (See http://www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/using_compressor_with_multiple_cores. html to get more info on setting that up.) As I watch the progress, I noticed that all the clips had finished transcoding then the error popped up. When I looked back on my hard drive I saw that all 8 instances were there in the correct format. I simply opened them in Quicktime 7, then starting with number 2, I copied and pasted it into number 1 window. I continued until all instances were copied into one window. I saved the movie. When I opened the movie, there was my complete clip in the correct format.
For the second clip that was troublesome I had set compressor to " copy source to cluster as needed". When I submitted it, it started copying it, then transcoding and again, when the instances were complete, then the error message. I noticed that my hard drive had lost a large amount of space so I used OmniSweep to check it out. I saw a private file was stuffed with gigabytes. I went to finder, entered the following path: </private/var/spool/qmaster> and there all eight instances. I dragged them to my external drive, then used quicktime 7 to stitch them back together.
I did test and found that this was not the case when selecting "This Computer" cluster. The scratch clip was visible unitl the failed popped up, then it disappeared. It does seem to be consisten when using a virtual cluster though.
While this does not solve the problem, it may let you get your clip and move on much faster.

This means the Compressor transcoder has crashed. A common cause of this is conflicting third-party codecs.

vbscript. Any thoughts?

To do this, you'd have to be able to capture the value of the variable on the task that failed but since your error catching code happens in another task, you'd actually have to be able grab the value for a different step which isn't possible. It sounds
like it could be of value though just not possible with the task sequence engine today. You should file a design change request on connect.

Neo Platinum overclocking tips & discussion thread

OK the reason i'm making this thread is so we have place to discuss overclocking on the Neo Platinum and share tips and hints about what settings are working best, and tweaks to get the max from your board.
The overclocking results thread is also getting a bit cluttered with chatter when it was designed to be a resource with specific information inside, so people could browse the thread at a glance and see what overclocks people were getting, and people thinking about nuying Neo Platinum will be able to use it to see what they can expect.
So let's use this thread to discuss what works best for our systems and help others tweak their boards to the max. Shared knowledge is better knowledge, and it'll be nice to throw ideas around in one spot as opposed to all over the place.
Try and keep it specific to overclocking and tweaking, no posts about hardware issues you're having or why you're USB isn't working etc, let's work on getting the max Mhz and FSB we can. I've bought this board and I want to squeeze every last drop of performance I can get!

ninjastyle, I can't fault the sense in what you're saying there, good to see someone on the right wavelength who's as fed up of the sdenseless whinging as I am. I'll get a mod to clean this thread up.
Anyways back on topic. After re-installing Windows onto SATA ports 3 & 4 I have an astonishing break through in overclocking results, 900Mhz HTT!
Only kidding obviously, heh, the re-install made not a shred of difference to my overclock, and I have now found that even with relaxed memory settings and PC4000 memory that the board completely freaks out at 240Mhz FSB 1:1, no matter what multiplier it is set at, even 7x for goodness sake!
This is in stark contrast to my Gigabyte NF3 150 K8N-PRO which could manage 9*250Mhz HTT 1:1 stable. This is why I don't think it's that much to do with my CPU, as the board I used previously coped FAR better with higher HTT. And don't forget i'm using the supposedly "uber-BIOS" 1.25 here.
I have a 3400+ CG revision coming next week so i'll wait till I try that before getting rid of this board and going back to my old Gigabyte. I'll either return this board or sell it on Ebay, then wait for DFI's offering and possibly ABIT's if they can get their arse in gear.
Until then i'll keep fiddling around with the board and see what I can do to solve some of the issues i'm getting, if at all possible.

Another iMac G5 failing to start up

I'm writing for my 84-year old neighbor, whose computer has given her much stress since last summer. I believe she purchased it in 2005 (Serial #W8445*PP6). Last summer the power supply died, and was replaced; last month the hard drive died, and it was replaced with a Seagate 320GB 7200, and Leopard was installed.
Since then, periodically there was a loud whine coming from the unit. Today, upon startup, the gray screen with the Apple logo and spinning gear appeared, stayed for about 10 seconds, and then the screen went black and shut down.
I read through the iMac G5 forum posts regarding similar problems, and from the tips contained there I tried the following:
- Started up from the Leopard Install disk; this was successful.
- Used Disk Utility to attempt to Repair the disk; 'Repair' wasn't an option, only 'Verify', so I attempted that; after about 10 seconds, the following message appeared:
Disk Utility stopped verifying 'MacIntosh HD' because the following error was encountered:
File system verify or repair failed.'
Within the progress window, the following appeared:
Invalid key length
Volume check failed
Error: File system verify or repair failed.
Perhaps of note is that last week I used Disk Utility from within the installed OS to Repair Permissions, and when about 1/4 of the progress bar was filled and 'about 1 minute' remained, no further progress occurred, even after 15 minutes. I repeated this two more times, with the same result.
Today, after unsuccessful First Aid from the Install disk, I then wondered what would happen if I took a few steps into an Installation of the OS; I got to the 'Select a Destination' screen, and there were no destination possibilities - just an empty window.
So, might the new hard drive have failed? Or something else?
Based on the serial #, it seems that this unit qualifies for the Repair Extension program; do the issues with this computer correspond with that program?
One further question: How do I get the Leopard Install disk out of the computer?

If the drive was replaced only last month, the repair should still be under warranty, it would be best to contact the repair shop and take it in to have it properly fixed.
Using Disk Utility can take an enormous amount of time, almost 3/4 of an hour in some cases. The progress bar bears no relation to reality.
You should also certainly call Apple and see if they will help, although the repair extension isn't valid for computers that were bought over three years ago.

Another Log & Transfer Error Thread

I have read over all log and transfer threads. I have done everything I could find that was previously described in other threads by deleting the pref. files and all that jazz. Followed everything in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2672530#NoData . I am certain that all my setting are set correctly. I am still running across the error when transferring telling me the clip has no data. My specs are the following:
Camera: Sony HDR-AX2000
Filming in 1080i60 (all setting in FCE reflect this)
I do not know what else to do to fix this problem. I am transferring directly from the SD card plugged into the stock port in my computer. I have not tried transferring with my camera plugged into USB 2.0 but am pretty sure these are both the same methods, as I have read. Am I missing something? Any help would be appreciated. Please let me know if there is any vital information I may have left out to get proper help.

Don't know if this is repeating advice you have already applied but:
1) Make sure you are editing with the latest update to FCE, FCE 4.0.1
2) Make sure you are recording HD with your camera. SD will not transfer by Log and Transfer - only HD.
3) There are reports of difficulties using Log and Transfer if you Camera Storage Card also contain clips in other video formats and/or if it contains still images.
4) Open the Log and Transfer window.
Click on the little gear shaped icon towards the upper middle of the L&T window
Select Preferences from the drop down menu.
When the preference window opens, set the AVCHD Plug-In audio format to Plain Stereo.
5) When you are navigating to the Storage Card, navigate to the top level of the card only. Do not drill down into the card structure. Log and Transfer needs to see the Card Structure to ingest properly.

during my intense googling and trial and errors using various links with various players I have only been able to make a small amount of progress, and the fact that I have bothered to write this is testament to my anger and building frustration at nokia and the so called flagship n97. it is especially painful when my previous phone the n95 did almost everything asked of the device, ok you get the point I am very very angry.

As an update to this post, I've just loaded a beta version of the Skyfire web browser (S60 v5 - http://www.skyfire.com/), which plays the video content on the BBC Sport internet pages & the Listen Live media player on the Talksport.net website. Definitely worth a go!

Another HDV to DVD thread..Bonsai! please Read

Hey guys,
So I just finished my first HDV edited project. I shot it with a Z1U, edited it nativiely and its a 45 minute video, its huge. I have a ton of graphics from livetype (great little program) throughout the video as lowerthird fonts for here and there and lots of graphics over video. I have multilply video tracks and audio tracks. I showed my client the footage and she was so floored she feels like she owes me more money which she said she would give me.
Anyways. SO it looks good in my computer (powermac g5 quad latest everything, have no external monitor, just 2 23inch cinama displays)
but now i have to get it to DVD.
I just got back from my hospital where they remade my brain after it melted reading everything and anything on this site.
Now the only reason i am posting a new thread is that from what I read the only projects being discussed is for simply cuts and dissolves project and i wanted to know if the same guys for projects such as mine?. and most importantly, i couldnt find anything on the type of DVD I should be using for burning.
Quality is very important to me, but am aware of the money I spent. I want this DVD to look good. Ive read some guys talking about bitvice? to do my encoding? since im new to everything, would it be wise to buy something that does the hard stuff for me? or can it be done without that stuff? is there software out there that will do this for me?
how come apple can't realize there are hundreds of FCP editors and producers going bald early because they can't get off there *** and get one of their techies to write a book on this stuff?

P.S. Time is not really an issue, I mean it is, but I can talk my way out of it. My clients perfer quality over time, so even if the 1 thing that truley works takes 6 days, then it will take 6 days. I dont need a quick method if quality is sacrificed.

well, i'm a bit confused. first you claim your clients don't care about quality and wouldn't know it if hit them upside the head. now, it has to be the best. fine.
in the idvd and dvd studio pro forums there are countless threads regarding media. personally, i like tdk and taiyo yuden 8X discs, i've not burned a coaster since getting a new burner last summer and i've not burned a lot, maybe around a hundred.
regarding cuts and dissolves and layers, i'm not sure i understand what you're asking. are you asking about compression issues or presets or methods or what? if you've been following bonsai's threads, then i'm not sure why you're asking for more info as he's been very comprehensive.
i don't work with hdv, but the format is becoming more popular. how about if you test your ideas and methods and report back? you could become the hdv expert that is needed around here.

Motion 3.0.2 was working fine and dandy and now suddenly quits out whenever I try to do anything with the file browser. Dont think I installed anything other than Apples latest security update so no idea whats changed.

heres a guess in the dark, you have Flip4Mac demo version, and ther are .wmv files in the folder you open up when Motion crashes?
if so this was discovered recently. The only solution is to never open a folder with wmvs in from within motion, or to buy the full version of F4M. actually its only the cheapest version you need.

Another Airport Express problem thread.

Hi Everyone,
I got a Powerbook recently and like many on these threads I am beset with Airport Express problems.
Here's my story. I purchased my Powerbook about a month ago and popped into the Apple Store to ask about the best way to have wireless internet access at home. They recommended the D-Link DSL-300T ADSL modem and Airport Express. I purchased these items and set everything up at home. This didn't work. After a week of talking to Apple, I got the answer to my problem from a Mac message board. Supposedly the ADSL modem recommended by Apple and stocked in their online store wasn't compatible with the lastest version of Airport Express 6.2.0. So I dowgraded the firmware to 6.1.1 and everything worked fine. My next problem was after running an OS X software update which I can presume also updated the Airport Express back to 6.2.0. So again I downgrade to 6.1.1 and it works again. Then I have to get my Powerbook replaced as the refurb Apple sold me didn't have the superdrive in it that Apple advertised, so I transfer my settings and files and i can go online for a couple of days and then it stops working again. I do the downgrade again but this doesn't help. So I take it to see a genius at Apple who performs the AE update 2005-001 which he says will solve the problem of incompatability with 3rd party modems. Take it home, it doesn't work. Powerbook almost gets thrown out of the window.
Why is something that should be so simple so difficult.
My questions are does anyone have a D-Link DSL 300T modem that works with the update 2005-001 ???
Why do Apple recommend an ADSL modem which doesn't work with their products ???
What ADSL modem for the UK does work with Airport Express ???

Hi Bollard, not sure whether this would work with the current model of the modem, but I ran into problems with the DSL300+ when first using it wit an airport extreme, back in 2003.
I eventually resolved the problems by using the modem in bridging mode. Not sure if this would be applicable with the new model, or whether it work if you are needing PPPoA rather than PPPoE, but for what its worth my experiences and solution can be found at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=607296&#607296 I've had a fair bit of positive feedback from people who found it worked for them, at least with similar equipment and connection protocol.
