Another Photo Question... May be useful to travellers!!!

Ok, so I have worked out a way to use several computers to update my photos! All I do is store the original files on my iPod using it as a hard drive, then sync them to my iPod using iTunes (obviously not storing the full resolution images by unticking the box). Thing is, it takes bloody ages to optimise the 800+ photos I have so far, and that number ain't going to get smaller...
So, the question is, can you get iTunes to recognise the fact that an iPod already has certain photo albums on it, and thus only update the new ones so it only needs to optimise a few?
Ta very much to anybody that replies, even if it's the news i think i'm going to get...

  • Yet another photo question -- better to stream or sync?

I plan to purchase an ATV this weekend and need help choosing between the 40 and 160 models. Though I've read dozens of posts, I'm still confused whether streaming or syncing photos will work best for me. My understanding is that I will only need the 40GB if I stream (ignoring other HD uses).
My photo setup: I currently have about 10,000 pix stored on a NAS drive and add to them weekly. My itunes runs on a PC (sorry) and I manage photos with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop.(I do not have Photoshop Elements). Network is hardwire 100MB.
    My goals:
    1. To view my pix on ATV with the least additional workflow relative to my current habit of downloading and managing images in Lightroom (i.e. need to transfer or rename files to view them in ATV, etc.)
    2. To have the best possible viewing performance (i.e. no lag, easy to find pix, etc.)
    3. Spend as little as possible (i.e. no new software, 40HDD)
How does streaming compare to syncing given my needs?
    What size drive?
Thanks in advance for the help. Sorry if the answer is obvious.

Welcome to the  Discussion Forums.
In most cases setting up your itunes as a syncing or primary library is a better option, it gives you much more functionality. What you should remember is that even in the role as a primary library you do not need to sync all your content as you have the option with a primary library of syncing or streaming your content.
This doesn't apply to photos though, so if you set itunes up as a primary library you must sync your photos, if you set it up as a secondary library you can only stream them.
Question to ask yourself is how many of the photos will you want on the tv, I have about 14,000 photos but only have about 4,500 on the tv. Many of my photos were taken on digital cameras as far back as 1995 when photo file size was quite small hence I have about 4 GB of photos on the tv.
I sync very little else and 4 of my 5 tv's are 40 GB and the other tv doesn't really have anything different on. You do use a little space for temporary storage of purchases and rentals you make via the tv, but I rarely ever have more than 10 GB of such content at any one time.

With the updates came iTunes 11.1.1 and Quicktime 7.6.6. I am still using Garageband 2008 and iPhoto 2008. When I create music in Garageband I usually adjust the volume and save it. Even now when I share the Garageband created files with iTunes 11.1.1, the volime I previously set in Garageband is retained. However, when I use the music to create a slide show in iPhoto 2008 and export to Quicktime 7.6.6, the volume level I previously set is lost and seems to default to a low level. The problem seems to be either in the slide show export from iPhoto 2008 to Quicktime 7.6.6 or in Quicktime itself. Is there a work around, so that I can retain the volume level I had previously set in Garageband, a volume level that seems to transfer without problem to the new iTunes. But then iPhoto 2008 (slide show) possibly or Quicktime 7.6.6 do not cooperate. Before I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard, the new iTunes and Quicktime I had no problems with the set volume being retained in the old Quicktime. The reason I need control over the volume is that all these music files are uploaded to YouTube.

My question is that if I am using Mac and another friend of mine is using Ipad mini and her skpe isnt working and we want to share screens how can we do it through Ichat? Since on facetime screens cant be shared!

    Hi,
    You can't.
Messages - the replacement for iChat in Mountain Lion and beyond will  do Screen Sharing  but only to the accounts it did in iChat 5 and 6  (actually it includes iChat 4 as well)
That is to say in earlier version of iChat you could login to AIM and Jabber servers as well as enabling the Bonjour option to chat on your LAN.
All these will do Video and Audio only chats which in turn means they will Screen Share.
At iChat 6 an Yahoo option was added but it can only Text chat (it can't even send Files or Pics)
This means only the Internet able accounts that login in to AIM or to a Jabber server  can Video and therefore Screen Share.
The iMessages account will Invoke FaceTime if you use the Video icon during text chat.  (I.e. it is not Video inside the app like the AIM or Jabber accounts can do)
    NOTE.
AIM includes Apple Issued Apple ID as Valid AIM Screen Names.
Google Mail ID s can be used and Google Talk IDs with Messages as they run a Jabber server.
Facebook allow you to create a Chat ID (Facebook Chat ID) which is also a Jabber server.

I had bought iPhone 4 from OLX. When i had deleted iCloud account and restored my iPhone it is still asking me about Apple I.D to activate my Phone.. Why is it so..?? Suggest me a possible reason for my Question so that i may continue using my iPhone...
I dont have any contact detail of that person whom i had bought this phone..

If you are trying to activate an iPad or iPhone and it is asking for a previous owners Apple ID and password, you have encountered the Activation Lock. This is a security feature that prevents thieves from setting up and using a stolen or lost iPad or iPhone. You have no alternative. You must contact the previous owner to get permission to use the device. If you cannot contact the previous owner return the device to where you bought it and get a refund. You will never be able to activate the device and no one can help you do it.

  • I am currently using an ipad overseas to put photos to icloud whilst travelling.  If I lose the ipad will i still be able to access the photos given I don´t have another mac device (but could use someone elses)? Thanks

I am currently using an ipad overseas with the hope that I can backup photos to icloud in case I lose the camera and ipad.  I don´t have another mac device but could use my girlfriends when I get home. Would it be possible to access my photos on her macbook using my icloud?
    Thanks

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Assuming you are logged into your iCloud account and have enabled photo stream on your device, then any photos you take on your iPad will be added to photo stream and can be shared to any device that is logged into the same iCloud account.
If while away, you lose your iPad, then upon your return you would need to log into your iCloud account on your girlfriend's computer and enable photostream, by doing this you would then be able to download all the photos you added to photo stream whilst you were away.

  • When I double click on a photo in Photoshop 10, Organizer, it is replaced by another photo.

I am using a free downloaded trial version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 10 on my new computer with Windows 7.  Not every time, but often enough, when I double click on a photo in the catalog, it will replace that photo with another photo.  Then I have to search all over to find the original photo.  Additionally, I was in an album and right clicked on a photo, then asked that it be rotated 90 degrees right, and instead the photo was replaced by another photo.  I've been through my entire catalog twice and cannot find the original photo.  Now, as I page down through the photos, it seems to be mixing in different photos about every other photo.
    Am I doing something wrong?
Is this a Windows 7 issue?
I realize I'm just using a trial version and that this problem may not exist in the real thing (if indeed it's a problem and not a user issue), but if I can't get the trial to work any better than this, I will not be purchasing the actual version.
    Any help?

I don't know what happened but as soon as I posted this request for help it immediately is working fine.  Thanks whatever.

When they un-upgrade iPhoto email templates? Along with Apple Maps, another software I won't use anymore.

You can go back by restoreing your backup of the iPhoto library from the previous version a installing the previous version for its original source
Of course I use iPhoto - and I have not idea what
Do you use iPhoto? What version are you using and have you sent photos using it from the iPhoto and used the older templates?
    means
one last time if you want help you have to start by being percise and shaing information - for example "older version" is of no help since there are 40 or 50 older versions
    again
Sorry but if you have a question then you need to provide information  - what are you talking about? What version of iPhoto and what OS version do you have? What upgrade are you talking about? what e-mail client are you using?

  • I photo Questions

    I have version 8.1.2 of iPhoto 09.
I am now scanning old slides and negatives into iPhoto using Ion's scanner.  I now discover that some photos may be reversed and it is tough to figure out before loading the jpgs into iPhoto.  Is there a way to reverse these horizontally using iPhoto?
Secondly, what happens to the deleted phtots once I click on "delete" while looking at a specific photo?  I click on iPhtot's trash but it is empty.  I do not want to clog up my hard drive with unwanted photos just becuase I cannot find them.
Thir question pertains to a folder in my albums called "Recovered Photos".  It has about 50 photos that exist (or at least some form of them) in their specific albums above.  Is it safe to select all and trash them?  As with the above paragraph, where do they go as I want them gone to save space.
Thank you for your help to any who will advise me.  Any additional tips would be appreciated as this is going to be a LONG process with pictures dating back to 1965.

iPhoto does not have a "flip" operation, but the Preview.app has; use Preview to flip your photos horizontally before you import them to iPhoto. The command is in the "Tools" menu in Preview:
    Tools > Flip horizontally.
If you already imported the photos, set Preview up as an external editor in iPhoto (in the Prefrences > Advanced panel: Edit photos in ... set this to "Preview").
How are you deleting? If you are browsing the photos in their events, use "Photos > Move to Trash ⌘⌫"
Emptying iPhoto's trash will mov ethe Photos to the System Trash.

That is really for you to decide. The "Recovered Photos" contains image files, that have been found in the iPhoto library and are not referenced by any photo version. If you are sure, all of them have high quality, editable counterparts in your library, you can trash them. Delete them with ⌘⌫.

  • Questions concerning the use of Adobe Interactive Forms

    Hi All,
I have two questions that I would to see if I could get an answer to.
    1) Has or can one use an Adobe Interactive form on a Tablet PC to allow a user to draw, say a small diagram or map, and have that image then stored in an R/3 database?
    2) I may already know the answer to this, but want to verify it anyway. Can Adobe Interactive forms be used to provide data to other applications outside of SAP using NetWeavers J2EE or .Net API?
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Mark

    Hello!
    1) As far as I know (and can see in Adobe Designer opened at my PC right now) there are no standard controls
in the library that can be used to add drawing (ink) area to the form. Maybe external are available, but unlikely.
Even more, googling shoes that Adobe itself is not eager to support ink in their Acrobat products... Pity but so.
So my answer for the first question is "NO".
    2) That depends on what you mean on "providing data to other applications outside of SAP using NetWeaver J2EE and .NET".
If you are using NetWeaver J2EE than you are still using SAP.
If you want to install SAP's ADS server on J2EE server from another vendor, than it is not a good idea:
First - it should be merely legal to use SAP software like this.
Second - Adobe's standalone forms solution (Link: [Adobe LiveCycle Forms ES|http://www.adobe.com/products/livecycle/]) should be cheaper.
On the other hand, if you create a simple form in LifeCycle Designer not inside SAP, but launched standalone and
set this form to send data to let's say XML-service, than there is no problem to use any other server application / platform.
It's just have to be a web-service like: support HTTP-requests with XML inside.
In the last case still the question persists "why use SAP in this case?"
Just few ERP 2005 licenses will cost more, than entire Adobe product line, so maybe you have to change the platform?

  • Is there a tool to sample a photos texture and apply to another photo ?

    Hi,
I am bringing into an old photo which is in fact a scan of a printed photo, an item selected from a recently taken photo and I need it to look as if it belongs to the old photo.
The immediate difference is in the texture, best shown with a photo here. try viewing it also by moving head laft and right !  I can even see a regular pattern of something within the cruder pixels. I could take days to try out various filters, it may be it requires a combination of filters and given the variables involved the chances of hitting upon the right settings and the right filters is remote and it would take days. Is there a way of sampling the recipient photo and then applying the effect it sees to the cleaner looking modern photo ?
I come across this situation all the time when one photo, even a modern digicamera one, taken by someone else, differs from another photo, unless the 'textures' can be made to match, the added in pics stick out like a sore thumb !  A photo with jpg artefacts receiving a cleaner photo is one common occurrence, try geting the cleaner one to look very jpegged, not easy.
With all of Adobes gizmos something like this 'texture match'  is high priority for such basic tasks.

Hi and thanks for the replies.
    C.pfaffenbichler
This has gotten a bit confusing with trying to merge two techniques following the define pattern edit you added.
Talking this through as a step by step, is this the way ?
    1) on source image for pattern, use selection tool and make a selection of the pattern. You say rectangular, Trevor says square, which one  matters and why ?  It seems that I have to try and find an area of uniform colour to select, what if its an odd shape ?    Trevor says use an area with an even tone, what if such an area is smaller than the image I need to 'pattern up'
I then went edit copy and edit paste and get a new layer with the pattern rectangle.
Having done this, is this the isolating pattern stage , I think so.
If I follow your suggestion of  Define Pattern, I find myself following Trevors idea of making a SQUARE selection and ending up with a bucket tool set to the pattern I just defined, then to see this through, else why do it in the first place,  I dump the bucket onto a new layer and end up with a screen full of a repeating squares where I can see differences at the edges as opposed to a perfect wallpaper of the pattern..  Far more than I ned and a danger of getting the edge across my recipient image.
Ignoring that define pattern and continuing…
    2) With this isolated pattern of just one rectangle on a new layer, I go Filters>other and choose High Pass filter…you say use a rectangular part of it, I don’t see how high pass filter can decide on a shape ? I also don’t understand the offset filter instructions at all and clone stamping over the borders.
    3) Ignoring the offset and clone stamp, I then position the layer with pattern over my recipient image and choose blend mode linear light and reduce the opacity of the layer.
    4) I then see the effect I am after though its happening to the original image behind the recipient object also, so I guess I shal have to use the recipient image and make a channel from it then use that to chop out the pattern outside of the image or simply go round with the eraser.
Is there a way of applying the pattern to the image other than erasing away the areas outside of the image ?
Your way certainly picks up on the repeat pattern I see,Trevors didnt work so well. . Is it aimed at seeing that fine flecking in my image or also aimed at replicating the mix of colours that make up the colour as well ?  I have tried to use Noise filter to turn a new colour I make into one looking like its a photograph, as we all know that uniform areas of colour placed in a photo look false, but I can never get noise to match the pixel colours of the photo, again is this technique best for that job ?
