Another Question about the "Notes" Folder from Kevin_Ahab

Okay, thanks to [I forget my helper last time], for his help getting my TEXT (you can not use non-Microsoft Word Documents) Documents to the "Notes" Folder in the Extras Menu of my iPod Nano White 4GB English.
Is there a limit to the size of the notes? My documents were ~8 KILObytes each, and the whole did not show up. If there is some sort of limit, tell me, or maybe I just screwed something up. Because some people have text documents over the 1 megabyte mark (I believe I have some), and if that can not be stored by iPod Nano, that is un-good.
Unless, and tell me if this hunch is correct, it is only for a "to-do" list, not for long, drawn-out documents.
Anyways, any help is GREATLY appreciated, thank-you in advanced.

Hey everyone,
After asking questions here and after 3 months of having my iPod, I figured out how to use my notes file on my iPod. I know( rolling eyes across the nation), but seriously, I got it to hold and open a file, but when I opened a document in that file, the file holds i'ms for me- is it supposed to have a bunch of computer text next to it? Such as text><?:::: Is this because there i'ms or what?

Question about the shared folder when backing up audio

Hello, kind Mac folk. I've read a lot about using Itunes to backup Itunes libraries onto multiple CD-R's and it seems that, right now, this is the best option for me. However, I've also read that it's a good idea to also backup the "users/shared" folder from the HD because it contains some invisible information regarding the authentication of music that I purchased using my .Mac/Itunes account. So is it possible to burn this folder in the same burning project I'll use accross the CD-R's on which my tunes will go? Or do I need to place this folder in a burn folder and back it up that way? And, if the latter is the only way possible, will it matter that the information is on a separate disc if I ever need to restore or upgrade my hardware? Thanks so much for your help and advice.

If you create your backup CD-Rs from within iTunes, it's not possible to include the Shared folder.
You have to burn that folder as a separate project.
The size of the folder can be fairly large (mine is about 1.9 GB) depending on the applications and specific use of your computer.
If your only goal is to save the authorization info in case of a HD crash or other failure, it won't help. After repair of a logic board or changing RAM, you will be asked to authorize again anyway.

The authorization info is stored in the 'SC Info.sidb' file inside the 'SC Info' folder in Shared.
You can 'unhide' invisible files by tools like Tinkertool or OnyX (you can find them on versiontracker.com)

Question about the trash folder

Is there a way to find out where a document that is in the trash folder originally came from without using the put back option? Normally this would not be a problem since the majority of files that go into the trash are the ones that I told it to delete but if I have a program that puts a file in the trash bin after the program exits, is there a way to see where the program in the trash bin came from. This doesn't happen very often but every now and then if I see something in the trash that I didn't put there, I would like to know where it came from. The files are usually files that can be deleted anyway but it would be nice if there was a way to see the original path. Obviously the original path is still there somewhere because you have the put back option so it has to know where it came from in order to put it back.

That might be in a logfile. Your Console application might help.

DFSR Question about the DFSRPrivate folder

Hello all and thanks in advance for any info you may provide.
I am using DFSR for first time and I face an issue with the replicated data and the source data. I want to clarify that I am using DFSR only to migrate data to a new file server and after the replication is completed I will decommission the olf File
Server.
My problem is that when I go to check the source and the destination data, they don't have the same size (which is expected, as I thought that some files, if they are opened or in use, they cannot be replicated). Well, it seems that this is not true,
because I checked it in a test environment. So, after I tested it and I saw that everything is replicated, even the opened files, I was wondering why the source and the destination data are not the same. I believe that there's not any problem if
I miss 500-600 files, because these files may be temp files, or bak files. When I run the report, I see that the files that are not replicated are basicaly pdf,docx,xlsx files. So, why these files are not replicated?
A colleague explained me that the difference between the source and destination data occurs because I have left the DFSRPrivate folder which contains the staging folder in its original location in the replicated folder. He advices me to change this, which
is a huge workload for me now. My question is, does my colleague have right? Shall I change it? If you leave the staging folder to its original place, will this cause any trouble?

I would not move the staging folder. I have NEVER seen a Microsoft document that recommends that, for any reason.
Have you checked the DFS Replication logs in Event Viewer (under applications and services logs)? Do you see a lot of 4304s? That may be the reason that the pdf, docx and xlsx files aren't getting replicated, they may be in use. (the same file
on more than one server)

Also, to check what state the replication process is in, use this command:

Question about the Contextual Event from task flow to portlet

Hello, experts,
I am studying the webcenter portlet and 11g Task flow. in fact i have tested on the Jdev TP4 about the portlet communication.
As we know, in 11g ADF task flow, can communicate via contextual events. My issue is if I use the bridge to convert task flows to portlets, How can I still make the contextual event communication works in portlets.. If not what is the best way to keep these converted portlets communicated? (I test it on TP4 but failed.)
Or I can not do this by task flow way, i need to rebuild my portlet in webcenter and use the portlet parameters in web center to let portlets communicate? Is there way can transfer the inter-taskflow communication to the portlets communication after they are converted to portles via bridge? Can new version 11g webcenter support this?
Seems very hard, I appreciate your web center development experts can enlight on this.

Each user has the option of his own application folder. Looks like you do not have one.
Disk sweeper sounds kind of scary, what does it do?
When you invoke the program it first lists the files. This is very safe. Note: it only lists the files you have access too. Did you create other id's?

Be careful when deleting files. A lot of people have trashed their system when deleting things. Place things in trash. Reboot & run your applications. Empty trash. Go after large files that you have created & know what they are. Do not delete small files that are in folder you do not know what the folders are for.

A few questions about the iQuiz game from 2007.

There. I am starting off with proof this AWESOME game once existed. it was called iQuiz. Actually it still exists on my 5th gen iPod. I'm sure it would work on the Classic iPods as well, but sadly I do not think many people have them as this game is missing from the Click Wheel Games page of the iTunes store.
Why is it missing? It is a great game. It was so wonderful because not only did it have this amazing battery burning music quiz that had graphics and great sound, it also had this other aspect that allowed you to write your own quizzes.
The disappearence is an incredible mystery.
Why has no similar version shown up in the iTunes story for the iPod Touch or iPhone?
Why have they stopped selling it?
It's not like printing more copies of it cost Apple money. It's data that they used to sell and now they don't. And no one seems to be making a program for the Touch or Click Wheel that comes close to being as good.
I feel like that guy in Invasion of The Body Snatchers who knows that something is going but doesn't know exactly what it is yet.
I hope there is another person out there who remembers iQuiz from 2007 or 2008 for the 5th Gen and Classic iPods. I hope this person can tell me what has happened with this great program and how we can get a version for the iPod Touch or and get it back into the Click Wheel Games section of iTunes.

Another question about the pitch slider problem

Hi everybody!
Anybody can answer me with the solution for my pitch slider? When i import a MP3 from itunes, press ctrl + alt + G and go to the track editor, check the 'follow tempo & pitch' and the pitch slider won't move.
I see answers to use the AUPitch Effect, but i think it's not 'sufficient' for me... if there's an functionality, I want to use, else it's a critical bug for me...
I'm a developer too and a bug without a solution is very very bad for the developer...
Searching in Google, apple support threads and nothing.... anybody else?

What do you mean by "not sufficient"? The AUPitch plugin can be tuned a lot finer than the pitch slider - the only downsides I can see are (1) that it takes up one of the effects slots and (b) that two regions on the same track can't have different pitch corrections.

I was planning to ask for an IPad2 for Christmas. Right now I read only on my Kindle. Can I read my kindle books on the IPad2? And is there a Kindle AP for the IPad2. Can I download my Kindle books right to the IPad2?
I'm not very computer or "tablet" savy. But I think if I can get my Kindle books on the IPad2 and also be connected to the internet and read email wherever I go would be great.

Hi there,
I have just successfully installed the Creative Zen Micro Firmware .02.05 on my 5GB Zen Micro but I have a question regarding Windows Media Player. The Set up Sync button and some of the properties still appeared greyed out. I thought the upgrade would solve that problem.

Please forgive me if this has been asked before, but I've looked at many threads stating how to remove the macprotector and macdefender from our computer. I haven't yet found an explanation as to how this scam/virus (whatever it is) is getting on certain websites that I thought were once safe? I love my mac, but have been quite depressed that I'm now wary to visit any site. Also, if this has been downloaded (against my will and I have done my best to remove it), what are the negative effects that can happen to my computer? Like are they getting information or slowly destroying my laptop?

What is does.
Depending on the version it just creates a bunch of random fake notification and claims your infected. If you keep getting it then most likely you have Allow popups and "Open Safe files" in safari on. The only damage is if you give the criminals that created it your Credit Card.

Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
