Another remote speakers question!!

Ok, I've done a search of the forum but can't seem to find any answers to this one!
I have a mac and two laptop pc's and an Airport Express all connected to my network. The mac is connected by ethernet and the PC's are wireless. The Express is set up in client mode and connects with no problems to my existing network.
When I run iTunes on the mac, all is fine, I see the remote speakers connected to the Express and the same also on one of my pc's. The other pc does not see it in iTunes but it can see the Express in the admin utility.
I'm very confused as to why it works on iTunes on one pc and not the other. They are almost both set up identically.
Are there any other settings that can affect iTunes seeing remote speakers? I've tried the check boxes many times and also wiping and reinstalling iTunes but still no luck.
Any help would be appreciated as it's very frustrating not being able to get it working from al my computers!!
Thanks!
Rob.

OK, I'm getting a little closer to what I think is wrong. It seems iTunes uses a piece of software called 'Bonjour' for it's sharing applications such as airtunes and shared music.
This little annoying piece of software seems to have hidden itself within the pc somewhere and I can't find it to check if there is some conflict somewhere. I think I might possibly have two versions of it running somewhere.
I removed all the apple software from my pc and also as many of the apple registry settings that I could find and reinstalled iTunes and quicktime.
To my annoyance it still doesn't work but iTunes seems to have remembered my shared name settings so there must be a reg setting somewhere that I have missed.. I'm guessing it's something to do with 'Bonjour' again.
So if anyone has any advice they can give me about 'Bonjour' I would really appreciate it!!!
Thanks!
Rob

  • ITunes 8.01, Error -15000 can not stream to Remote Speakers

    Hello,
I need some help on this error which started to appear with iTunes 8.
The error is the -15000 and I can not play music via my AppleTV (remote speakers)
I have just installed iTunes 8.01.
and instead of solving the problem, it now actually says hat the firewall is set wrongly. (must have been a Genius who came up with that idea)
Question: what are the correct firewall setting ?
    Cheers,
    B

    Hey B,
This article has general tips that may resolve the issue.

What Firewall settings do you have selected in System Preferences> Security> Firewall?
Are you using any other security software like 3rd party firewall software?
Also, does this happen in another user account?

  • Using a PC running iTunes as remote speakers

I have two Airport Express in my house, which are great for playing music in different rooms remotely, powered by my primary PC in my office. However, I also am buying a PC for my living room to put above the fireplace. There is no room for another set of speakers for another Airport Express there, and I don't want to buy another one. What'd I'd like to do is use this new PC running iTunes as a set of remote speakers, recognized in iTunes like the Airport Express speakers. That way I could play the same music at the same time in many rooms of my house.
Does anyone know how to do this?
If not, consider this is a feature request, i hope Apple will give it consideration.

    Hello.
Any feature requests can be submitted to the following links below
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/airportexpress.html
*With Airtunes you are able to stream music to multiple speakers meaning
    1. Multiple Airport Expresses connected to Multiple speakers
    2. Multiple Expresses connected to Speakers & also hearing the audio from the computer it is broadcasting from.
Now the bigger question I believe you are asking is can other computers pickup on this broadcast of sound?
Never tried it myself. I am not aware of iTunes being able to pickup the broadcast from the speaker selection in the bottom right hand corner. I am aware of it being able to broadcast it's sound to other speakers on the network though.
Hopefully other users can post their thoughts and how they got this to work. At this current time I know you can connect multiple expresses, and have it broadcast throughout the house based on where each express it is and the speakers they are connected to.

  • Cannot get iTunes to recognize remote speakers via Airtunes

I have the option checked under iTunes preferences to look for remote speakers. The Airport Express device is "up and running" and glowing a continuous green which tells me it recognizes the wireless Belkin Pre-N router which is the central router for 2 windows laptops, a mac mini and this iBook. The mac mini is hard wired to the router; all others are wireless. A couple of items worth noting: Airport Express has worked previously on the iBook. Prior to running the Belkin Pre-N...I was running a Linksys 802.11b router. In addition, the motherboard on this iBook was replaced by Apple earlier in the summer. The iBook was returned with no problem and the hard drive remained intact. I tried to follow D.Lovell's link (hats off...by the way, nice job) but did not get very far.I hardwired the iBook to the Belkin Pre-N router and established an internet connection. I then tethered the Airport express to the router via ethernet cable and powered up Airport Express. Flashing yellow ensued....no green. Per Lovell's instructions, I opened Airport Admin Utility and nothing is recognized here. If I hit rescan or find other, another window pops up asking for IP address and password. Perhaps I am wrong here but I enter the IP address the router assigns to the IBook but I have no password to enter as Ive never associated a password with this router. This is as far as I can go in the process. Do I have an Apple issue? A Belkin issue? I feel as though I am close to solving this ....and its all the more frustrating that it worked previously...No firewall software runs in the background. Help????????

If when the Airport Express is cabled to one of the ethernet LAN ports on your Belkin wireless router, and the Airport Express doesn't within a short period of time show a solid green status light, then the next thing I would do is a factory default reset of the Airport Express per:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=108044
If the problem persists then one of the following has happened:
    - you have a defective Airport Express
    - you have a defective ethernet cable connecting the Airport Express to the Belkin router
    - the LAN port the Airport Express is cabled to on the Belkin router is defective

  • ITunes doesn't connect to remote speakers on my Airport Express?!?

Can you help me solve this technical issue? I have a Linksys wireless router with another device as a wireless repeater (to extend my wireless network). On the other end of this wireless network is my AirPort Express with the AirTunes enabled.
I can ping my AirPort Express from my iMac. But, my iTunes is not successful connecting to the speakers. Can you suggest some remedies for this? Thanks in advance.
    James

Thank you for the quick suggestions. Here are the facts:
    1) iTunes host are on the same network subnet as the AX. I can see both of them on my router. The iMac which the iTunes is running can ping the AX. In fact, the remote speaker is listed in the popup window that shows the built-in Speaker as "Computer" and the name of the AirTune on the AX.
    2) No firewalls between the host and the AX...as far as I know or can tell, all ports are opened within the home network.
    3) The AirPort Utility can see the AX and let's me update the configuration without any problem.
    4) OS X Firewall on my iMac is set to Allow all incoming connections
Again, I'm stucked and confused because my iMac can find the AX thru the AirPort Utility as well as from the iTunes by listing the AX's speaker in the Remote Speakers list.
Why then it cannot connect to it to play music is very big mystery...help! I really like to play music in my backyard.

  • Can't connect itunes to my remote speakers thru airport express

After having updated the latest itunes 7.3 my itunes does not recognize anymore my remote speakers and does not connect to them.
Have resetted my airport, to no avail. still, itunes does not recognize it.
please advise what to do as it is very annoying, when you make updates that your old configuration stops working.
    many thanks

I had the same problem. It used to work without any problems but then stopped for no apparent reason. I tried resetting and hard-resetting the Airport Express (AX) many times, but no success. Plus the Airport Utility would never show the Airport Express once I configured it to join the exisiting wireless network (in my case a Airport Extreme).
Anyway finally this worked for me:
    1) Hard-resetting the AX
    2) Start Airport Utility and find the AX. But instead of going throught the guided steps to set it up, double click on the AX symbol and to set it up manually. Yo will see 5 icons in the meny bar - Airport, Internet, Music, Printers, Advanced.
    - Airport --> Base Station: In give it any name and password.
    - Airport --> Wireless. Wireless Mode: Join a wireless network. Select it below and the appropripate security settings and password.
    - Music --> Enable AirTunes. Leave the rest alone.
    3) Click Update. Close the window and wait until the AX restarted. (solid green light)
    4) Let the AirPort Utility rescan the network.
    5) Restart your wireless base station/router (as I said, in my case Airport Extreme. If you have another base station you may have to do it manually)
    6) Start iTunes and presto you will see the remote speakers
    7) Let AirPort Utility rescan the network. Presto, you see both the AX and the base station.
My setup: MacBook OS 10.4.10, Airport Extreme and Express, HP with WinXP Pro. Can also stream music form iTunes on the HP.

  • Using Bose system to drive remote speakers via Airport Express / iTunes

I want to connect my Airport Express which is configured for remote speakers in iTunes to my Bose system. My question is which input on the Bose Lifestyle 50 system do I use; ie which input on the "multi-room interface" do I connect to the AE. I think it must be the "aux" but before I buy a suitable cable I would like to be sure.

Use a mini-jack to double RCA. That is all that I used. In the past I have used my APExpress and used the audio out port and all I needed was a mini-jack to double RCA.I have a TV, and a DVD player interfaced through my Denon AVR driving Bose Acoustimass 10 speakers.

  • Cannot connect to remote speakers through Airport Express

Please help me! Please for the love of the mac guy on tv who encouraged me to switch.
I've been a happy mac user. I am not all that technically saavy and hence switched to a mac because "it just works." I bought the airport express and hooked it up through my WIRED network so that I could play tunes on my stereo from iTunes. Things have worked amazing and have had no problems until now. I don't even have the option now to look at remote speakers.
I know this is a common problem. This issue was even posted on Engadget for crying out loud. I've been reading these forums for the better part of the day trying things and I think I've actually made things worse.
I've resetted my airport express (now my iMac can't even find it). The AE still works though because my work computer can still see it and hook up to the internet through it. I've enabled IPv6 and have disabled IPv6 (have seen some conflicting information on that). I've went into the firewall settings and even added a port (5353) from another post I read. I've checked and double checked my iTunes settings and the option to check for remote speakers is on. I believe all of this happened since my iTunes was upgraded to the latest. For a computer that is supposed to just work, well, it just stopped working (the one issue).
I don't know if it shows, but I have an iMac G5 with OS 10.3.9. I know that's kind of old now, but the computer has been doing everything I've needed it to do. I like it. I just want this to work. So, I am begging anyone with any knowledge to pleeeeease help me out. Don't crucify me for not reading the other discussions. I have. I put in a great effort. Now again, I plead, help me - even if it takes a back and forth effort for a while. I thank all in advance for trying.

That's the other thing, AirPort setup assistant doesn't allow me to get very far. I get to the introduction page and click continue to begin. Then I get an error message saying I have no AirPort card installed (which is true, but not necessary because I'm on a wired network to get to the airport express base station).
Unfortunately, the AirPort Setup Assistant requires a wireless connection to work so the error you are getting when using it would be normal. Your options would be to use the AirPort Admin Utility or use the newer AirPort Utility on the Dell to administer your 802.11g AirPort Express Base Station (AX). The latest version of this newer utility can be downloaded from here: AirPort Utility Setup 5.3.2 for Windows
If I click New then an error message pops up saing No new AirPort networks were found. Click continue to scan again. I can keep doing this with the same result.
When having difficulties accessing the base station from the AirPort Admin Utility, try the following:
o Make sure that you connect to the wireless network, created by the AX, before you attempt to access it with the utility. The default Network Name (or SSID) will be something like Apple Network xxxxxx, where the x's are the last six digits of the base station's AirPort ID.
o If the utility still doesn't find the base station, try temporarily connecting your computer directly, using an Ethernet cable, to the Ethernet port of the AX, and then, try accessing it again.
o If the utility still can't find it, the I suggest that you perform a "factory default" reset on the AX. Note: You may have to try this several times, but be sure that you get the rapid flashing status light to verify that the reset took. After successfully resetting the AX, and while still connected by Ethernet, try to access it with the AirPort Admin Utility again.

  • Cannot connect to remote speakers using Airport Express

Yesterday I was able to connect to my hi-fi using remote speakers in iTunes 6.0.4 through my Airport Express (AE) and take full advantage of Front Row, however later in the day the speaker selecton pop-button in iTunes disappeared. I did a hard-reset of the AE unit, shutdown the computer, checked the preferences selection in iTunes etc, all without success. I checked the discussion boards of both iTunes and Airport for a solution. Found something interested where someone said that they shutdown the computer and went to bed and in the morning, hey presto everything was working. He thought that having a good night's sleep was the solution. So, I shutdown the computer and went to bed. The next morning, the light on the AE was green and after booting up my iMac Intel the pop-button reappeared (I still don't know what solved the problem) but now it will not connect to the speakers. It tries but gives us after 30 seconds or so.
Here is what I have done so far: I used Airport setup assistant to set up the AE. During that process I selected to join an existing network that is provided by my Airport Extreme base station and I selected to only use the AE to share a printer and play iTunes using WDS bridging. This process works every time.
Right now, the light on the AE unit is flashing amber. In Airport Admin Utility both the Extreme and the Express are listed but the Extreme has an IP address of the 10.0.x.x variety whereas the Express has an IP address 169.254.x.x variety! Strange. If I double-click on the Express it takes an age to get a response and when the response eventually comes - asking for the password I then get an error saying that "the airport admin utility was unable to read the configuration of the selected base station.
I have tried resetting and repeating the above without success. Therefore, any other ideas or help would be greatly appreciated. I want to boast about Front Row to my Windows friends without the embarrassment of connection problems

I am having almost exactly the same trouble with an Airport network I recently set up in my home. I have a G5 with a brand new Airport card, an Airport Extreme Base Station (also brand new) in the same room acting as my internet portal, and an Airport Express (yup--brand new) downstairs piping iTunes to the stereo.
I could get the G5 and Extreme base to talk without a hitch--they are right next to one another, after all. When I tried to link the Express into the same network, the Express vanishes. When I tried moving it into the same room with the Extreme, I could find it, and play tunes through a set of headphones. Moving to an outlet in the hall outside the room, it still worked. Moved to an outlet on the far wall of the room across the hall, it would play only sporadically, dropping out about 4 seconds out of every six. Anywhere else, and it wouldn't show up at all.
However, when I set up the Express to be a separate network, my G5 was able to access it and play music without difficulty, anywhere in the house. I've been playing iTunes on my stereo for weeks, with the downside that I can't do that and surf the web at the same time.
Last night I tried the experiment of moving the Extreme Base Station around. With my G5 in the living room, in the approximate center of the house (1/2-level above the basement, 1/2-level below the office--it's a split level), I was able to access the Express and play tunes on the stereo as usual. With the Extreme Base downstairs, right next to the Express, my G5 could not even locate its signal. Fifteen feet closer to the center of the house (but still downstairs): couldn't find it. At the base of the stairs: couldn't find it. At the top of the stairs (20 feet from the G5, but just around a corner): couldn't find it. Three feet out into the foyer at the top of the stairs (and now in a direct line of sight to the G5): 20-30% signal. Keep in mind that during all this, I could switch over to the Express network at will (75% signal) and play music downstairs without a hiccup.
It seems to me that there's something wrong with the Extreme Station itself (or at least, with the way it's trying to communicate). If it were external interference due to an outside network, a microwave oven, or a 2.4 GHz cordless telephone, I would expect it to effect both networks equally--but it isn't. The Express seems impervious. I've noticed in another set of posts that some people with wireless connection problems have found that switching from the most recent version of the Extreme Base firmware (5.7) to an older one (5.5.1) has fixed the problem. I plan to give it a shot myself. I'll let you know how it turns out.

  • ITunes can't connect to remote speakers PLUS Airport Express p/word problem

I am running iTunes 7.4.1 and have previously been able to play iTunes through remote speakers via an Airport Express . After upgrading iTunes some time ago, I am unable to connect to the AE any more. The AE shows as an option in my iTunes window, but when I select it from the drop down option box bottom right, it just doesn't choose it.
I have read other discussions pertaining to this, and have followed all of those solutions, but to no avail.
I have done a hard reset on the AE restoring it's factory settings thinking I should just start again, and it has been renamed "Base Station Oa369f" so I know this has worked, but when I try to reconfigure it through Airport Utility, it asks for a password. I tried it's old password, and also tried the generic one "public" as stated in the AE setup guide, but it rejects both.
I am keen to figure this out as I'm about to buy a new printer and another AE so I can print wirelessly, but don't want to have the same issues if it's an AE bug that can't be fixed, I would be left with no printer!
I know this is two quite separate problems, but if anyone has any ideas for either I would be really grateful.
    Thanks very much

I have exactly the same problem which has been driving me nuts for the last couple of days. However I am able to access the dropdown list of speakers. I have mine set to multiple speakers, and now it WILL play through my Airport Express again, but only when playing through the internal speakers at the same time. When I try to play solely through the Airport Express it just hangs.
Come on Apple, you need to be regression testing your upgrades far better than this, for something so basic to go wrong.

  • ITunes no longer allowing use of remote app or recognizing remote speakers

Weird problem as all of this worked as of 24 hours ago. I am no longer able to share my music (either via the remote app or between two computers on the same local network) nor will iTunes recognize the existence of remote speakers (again, all worked fine as of yesterday).
I've made no changes to firewall, etc. I've confirmed the network is functioning, the Airport express is connected, all current versions, etc. Firewall allows incoming connections for iTunes. Further, i've tried:
    1) Restarting iTunes, the iMac in question and the iPad
    2) Using remote on two different devices
    3) hard rebooting the airport connected to my stereo
    4) reinstalling iTunes and remote
Home sharing is turned on however the iPad's remote app cannot find any libraries. When i try to add a library outside of home sharing, iTunes doesn't see any device trying to connect.
I'm well stumped. Anyone else finding this issue and are there any suggestions?

Same problem. I'm running itunes 10.1.2.17 under win 7.
Here's what I did to fix the problem. Basically you need to create a new exception in your firewall to allow itunes UDP communication.
    control panel>system & security>Windows firewall.
    Advanced settings>inbound rules
    New Rule> Program > browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes and pick itunes.exe
    Allow the connection>next>next
Give it a name like iTunesUDP.
Now click on your new rule "iTunesUDP" and select properties.
Click the protocals and ports tab.
    under protocal type select UDP.
    That should do it.
Let me know if it worked for you.

  • Remote speakers no longer show up in iTunes

I have recently had to send my DVD/surround-sound into the shop for repair. It used to play iTunes through Airport Express fine, but now I've tried hooking Airport up to both my TV and another stereo, but in both cases remote speakers no longer show up in iTunes. I've tried reconfiguring Airport Express, and have got 'look for remote speakers' checked in iTunes prefs, bit to no avail...can anyone help me?
Also, on a related note, last time I had probas, I chatted with a support guy online somewhere on Apple.com but I can't seem to find this anymore...anyone know where it's gone?

I had the same problem. I was using iTunes 7.0.2 with two Airport Express devices and it worked fine when the Bonjour service was running at the same time.
After I upgraded to iTunes 7.1 I was unable to connect to my Airport Express devices unless I disabled\stopped the Bonjour service. :-/
While disabling the Bonjour service is a workaround for iTunes, it breaks other 3rd party apps that use the Bonjour service to stream to the Airport Express devices. I have a WinAmp plugin that allows me to stream WinAmp to my Airport devices that doesn't work when the Bonjour service is turned off.
I hope Apple fixes this problem ASAP. I hope Apple didn't do this to intentionally to defeat 3rd party apps that figured out how to stream to an Airport Express.

  • Using apple remote with iTunes 9 and airport express/remote speakers

    Hi,
Does anyone know why the apple remote will control the hardware volume for the speakers on my mac, but when playing via the airport express connected to remote speakers why doesn't it control the volume slider in iTunes?
This would be really useful as at present I need the apple remote to control track selection and play/pause, but another remote to control volume.
If it isn't possible now, can Apple please add it to the pile of suggestions for the next version build of iTunes?
    Many thanks

  • Airtunes remote speakers not visible in iTunes

I had this actually working flawlessly for about a year now. Two Airtunes speakers in Living and Dining room, controlled wirelessly through iTunes on my WinXP laptop.
And two more laptops, one Win2000, one OSX working fine too with it.
So suddenly, and I'm not sure if this was due to a Windows Update or an iTunes update or something else, that WinXP laptop doesn't show the remote speaker in iTunes anymore. I can still ping the Airport base stations but don't see them in iTunes anymore.
The other two computers are still connecting fine to them.
Turned of the Windows firewall, just to check, still same issue.
Uninstalled iTunes completely, restarted, reinstalled, same thing.
I just don't have any ideas what to try.
    Anyone has an idea please?
    Thanks,
    Wolfgang

I may be having a similar problem. My remote speakers work great on one PC, but not another. On the other, when I connect to the remote speakers and click play on an mp3, iTunes crashes with a "Sorry, but iTunes has to close". The error signature doesn't make sense to me:
    AppName: itunes.exe AppVer: 7.5.0.20 ModName: itunes.exe
    ModVer: 7.5.0.20 Offset: 002d0671
This is my work laptop and I have no ability to change the firewall settings. Could that be it, or is firewall unrelated to a complete iTunes crash? Thanks for any input.

  • 5.5.3 and now difficulties connecting to remote speakers

Ever since the update to 5.5.3 I am having issues with my two airport express units which are both are set to stream music.
It often now takes iTunes quite awhile to connect to the remote speakers.  Not always both.  More often the one that is set up to extend the wireless network.  And sometimes it just can't connect at all to one of the AE units and I have to toggle some setting on the unit to update it and then it works again.  Seems that it just can't maintain a connection as well as before.
    I'm running a 5 ghz network.
And after its all connected and running smoothly, the audio will often cut out.  It has been years since I've had audio drop outs.
As well, if I awaken my iphone (which is connected to the same network) the sound will often cut out then.  As if it stalls the music stream when another device hooks up to the network.
Anyone else seeing audio drop out issues since 5.5.3?

Yes, this problem is known since iTunes 9 and Apple does not fix it yet. I am ****** off. I have tried everything, change settings, restart both mac and Airport, change settings of wireless connection, but still iTunes connects to speakers randomly and today I can not connect, I am really ****** off!
