Another Spotlight Doesn't Work Thread

I've been told I should start a thread with my specific Spotlight problem.
So... the story so far.
Spotlight is broken on my Mac Book Pro. I don't remember exactly when it started but I get junk in search results, for example:

At first this would happen after a few successful searches. Restarting would solve the issue usually. Then I added the Macintosh HD to the Privacy Pane of the Spotlight prefs pane. This was in line with recommendations for using Pro Tools and following Apple's guidance on stopping Spotlight from indexing a disk, volume or folder.
I subsequently uninstalled Pro Tools and removed the Mac HD from the Privacy pane. Since that point Spotlight hasn't worked at all.
I've checked the disk and repaired permissions. The Mac is working perfectly otherwise. I've tried to reset the Index with Spotless, Onyx and Terminal. Each time Spotlight rebuilds the index it only takes a few seconds! I note from Spotless that the index is only 4.4mb in size after rebuilding.
Just to reiterate, Spotlight wasn't working correctly BEFORE I installed Pro Tools. I have no third party add-ons, hacks or whatever installed.
I don't want to search the contents of some obscure HTML file, I just want to search for a file on my Mac.

The microphone has to be selectet as prefered input device. What you hear is selected by default. Use the vollume-tab from windows.
It makes no sense to disable the onboard to set your soundcard as the primary card. All this is configurable in windows audio configuration. You can have as much audio-cards as you want. Sometimes i had three cards: AWE32 for MIDI-Playback, Onboard for Mic-Input, Audigy for audio-playback and AWE32-MIDI Output per SPDIF. Even today im using the Onboard for MIC-Input because in Vista there are problems if youre playin some games with alchemy because teamspeak looses connection to the microphone-input from my X-FI.

What exactly are you trying to copy and paste?
If it's MIDI data from one istrument track in Arrange to another, this should work.
If you're trying to copy settings (ie a particular sound) from one software instrument to another, that's obviously not possible as all AU's (Audio Instruments) have different parameters and are unique, so their settings will only work for each instrument.

You can't do what you want with iCloud. You will need to setup remote access to your main computer with VPS or some similar remote access application. With VPS you have an application running on your main computer turning it into a server and an client app on your laptop so you can access it remotely. There are many such apps out there, some probably more feature filled than VPS. You might post in the system forum that you're running and ask there.

IPhone 3G ver 3.1 - spotlight doesn't work with accessory connected anymore

I've been using iPhone 3G for quite a long time now and everything was fine until a recent update to OS ver. 3.1... I've noticed, that spotlight doesn't work now as it worked before... The thing is that I'm using iPhone as a phone and a source of music in my car. I connect it to Pioneer car audio system via USB. Before 3.1 update I was able to search for a song in spotlight and when I tapped it - it just played via car speakers. Now it doesn't do anything. I keep tapping, but nothing happens. The only way to play a song - disconnect iPhone from Pioneer, find song in spotlight, tap on a song to launch it and connect iPhone to Pioneer while the song is playing.
Well, I have a workaround, but it requires both of my hands... But it's kind of unsafe to do so while driving... Could someone confirm spotlight working while connected to any accessory?.. Maybe I'm the only one having this issue and iPhone restore would help?.. I just don't want to restore without any reason...

Hi to the forum. This is my first post - ever!
It's taken me 25 years of Apple equipment purchase and enthusiastic advocation to get to this point.
And what has got me here? 'The GPS on my iPhone 3G has doesn't work'. If you Google this statement you get 12 million hits. It seems to me that's probably 12 million people who have a problem with an Apple product they've purchased.
I've read a lot of the solutions that other users have come up with - dozens of different ones. I've updated the iPhone software as soon as I can, I've been patient, I've given Apple chance to sort it out. I've even gone back to printing out Google maps onto paper (remember 'paper') and taken those out with me in the car to find my way around town.
However - the southern hemisphere summer is coming and I want to use the (totally brilliant) Navionics chart/GPS App on the boat. No chance. According to the iPhone we're in Africa not New Zealand.
So what to do? I can't find any 'official' info from Apple. I've no idea how the politics of these situations work - and I don't care! 12 million hits can't be wrong. Apple needs to tell it's users what is happening (even if they're still working on it), and when we can expect a fix.
Come on Apple, keep us in the loop - we love your products - and we want to keep advocating for you!
PS - this is the best place I could find to have ths little discusion - if anyone has a more direct line to God (err I mean Apple) please let me know!

Spotlight doesn't work on iPhone 4 IOS5

spotlight doesn't work!!! It doesn't find contact using MAIL field or NOTES field or any other, expect NAME of contact!!!

No, changing the settings doesn't affect the problem. When it's working —for that one search you get after rebooting—it honors the settings and searches only checked items ... so I don't believe it's a settings issue.
But after that single search (if you get that) it simply shuts down and stops working. No results of any kind from any area.

I do have many apps and used the search as a way to quickly jump to an app instead of swiping through numerous screens. This is killing me. Hoping the fix is released soon; having searched the web on the issue, I see that it affects a great many users of ios5.

ITS 6.20 connect to another client doesn't work

We have an ITS 6.20 .
Glabal service belong the caracteristics of connection to SAP server (login, pasword, client, systemnamme, systemnumber).
I want to connect to another client but all the others parameter stay the same as in global service definition.
The idea I have is to put the client in the URL as parameter but it doesn't work
example of the URL:

The connection doesn't hold in count the client parameter. It is connected with the client of global parameter.
Is there anybody who can help me ?.

You'll need to remove the ~client value in the global.srvc file (and service file of the service being called). Than the ~client parameter in the URL should work.

Menu bar date and time is flashing and spotlight doesn't work

Help! My menu bar date and time in top right corner suddenly started flashing and Spotlight doesn't seem to work. It would normally appear just below the date and time. Is this a known issue? 10.4.7 on a 1 GHz G4 (eMac).
Any ideas - I tried restarting with no difference.

Create a new account, name it "test" and see how your Finder and Spotlight work in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.

Pdf links inside another Pdf doesn't work

Hi,
I am using Adobe Pdf Reader X(10.1.0). I am creating a PDF with html links embedded in it.
Links to normal files works properly (Like server/idcontent/new/ir.html)
But links to another pdf file doesn't work(Like server/idcontent/new/ir.pdf). When clicked on a .pdf link nothing happens. But where as other links works perfectly.
Can any one help me whether I am missing any setting in my Adobe Reader.

Spotlight doesn't work with Time Machine?

I'm trying to use Spotlight to find specific files in my Time Machine back-up but it doesn't work. Is this right?

The Time Machine Tutorial shows how to find things in Time Machine (about halfway through).

Spotlight doesn't work at all

Since I have had my G4 iBook Spotlight has never worked.
The icon is in the menu bar but when I type in something like Safari which I know is there no search results show up.
Furthermore the Spotlight in Finder does not show up with any results for any searches either.
I have everything checked in Spotlight Preferences.
I have also tried adding my harddrive to the Privacy Plane in System Preferences and then deleting it, as suggested by many forums, but the harddrive does not show up in the first place.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

Something that I completely forget all the time.
If you install or update your OS or any application, immediately repair the permissions before you do anything else. It's in the book.
Just this past weekend, we upgraded one of our machines that we seldom used and while trying to transfer some files from a firewire drive we found that Spotlight wasn't working. It was so bad that we ended up erasing the drive and reinstalling Tiger. Actually it was a good thing, because the machine never worked better. However, after reinstalling one of the apps, the spinning wheel of death appeared the minute we tried Spotlight. This time, instead of trying to refresh indexing, we simply ran Disk Utility and repaired the persmissions. Voila. Spotlight worked perfectly.
Then, as a test we uninstalled the suspect app, checked Spotlight. It was ok. Reinstalled. Spotlight not working. Tried using the Privacy pane to reindex the drive. No such luck. Ran Disk Utility. Still not working.
So we uninstalled the app, ran Disk Utility. Restarted. Checked Spotligh-ok. Reinstalled the app. Ran Disk Utility. Everything working.
Moral of the story. Don't forget to repair permissions after a newly install or update.

Help please!! -- Another iTunes won't work thread.

My iTunes has suddenly stopped working, here are the details:
-Windows XP Home Edition
-Norton System Works
There are some VERY strange 'symptoms':
When I run iTunes, the task manager shows it in the PROCESSES list (itunes.exe), yet not on the APPLICATIONS list.
ALSO, when I try to end the process, it doesn't end. NO error messages, no nothing. The confirmation comes up, I hit ok, and the process just stays there.
Another problem is that after I run iTunes, I can no longer launch any other application. Even things that were once running (ie firefox.exe), once closed, can not be opened. (By this, I mean they become like iTunes, and appear only in the processes list). I am forced into completely restarting the computer to use any program that is not open.
-Steps already tried-
1. Scanned for Spyware/Adware using fully updated Spybot S&D, Adaware, and SpywareBlaster.
2. Full System Scan with fully updated Norton System Works (Norton Anti Virus)
3. Disabled every part of Norton, then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes.
-same exact problems still arise-
Quicktime works fine, just the iTunes which causes problems, all other applications open and close fine.

There is no firewall, as in no "personal firewall" feature.
When I disabled Norton to try and reinstall, I completely disabled every feature including "Internet worm protection" and "Spyware Protection" (which is a part of Norton Antivrus)

Sending multitrack Project from FCP to STP on another computer doesn't work

I attempted to search the forums but can't find my specific problem mentioned. I apologize if I overlooked it!
I am attempting to send a Soundtrack Pro Multitrack Project from Final Cut Pro 6.01 to Soundtrack Pro 2.01 on another computer. When I do, the video comes through fine but the audio fails to transfer over.
Here's what I did:
First I open the Final Cut Project, highlight all the clips in the sequence to send and click "Send to Soundtrack Pro MultiTrack Project". I select all options including the "Fully Rendered Video" Option. This project opens up great in Sound Track Pro on the original computer. In Soundtrack Pro I "save as" and make sure I select "Collect Audio Files", "Collect unused audio files", & "Collect Video File". As far as I have read, this should be all I need to make sure all of the audio and video clips transfer together with the STP file.
However, when I place this folder (including the media files) on a external hard drive and transfer it on to our other computer (set up for audio recording and editing) and open it up in STP I get no audio. The clips visually transfer and all the clip lengths match up with the video, however there is no waveform showing. A straight line at 0db is all that shows up. I check the clips in the bin and they show the same file size as on the first computer. When I select an audio clip and take a look at the actions tab it shows the name of the clip and under it it says "insert silence" (which was not there on the original computer). When I de-select the insert silence the audio still does not play (the straight line on the waveform disappears). I try deleting the "insert silence" action and the same thing happens.
I have tried doing this operation mulitple ways with the same result. Am I doing something wrong? The only thing I can think of is the file starts out on OSX 10.4.11 and is transfered over to leopard 10.5. I just tried doing the reverse operation (creating the file from the audio computer and sending it to the video computer) and everything works fine. No idea what this means. I need this to work the other way around so I can begin the extremely intensive audio work on this film while our editor continues the video edits so thank you very much for any help that you can lend me. It is greatly appreciated.

Could be a difference in OS's causing the problem, but I can't say for sure. You could try using the OMF export option instead. I almost guarantee it will work.

Spotlight doesn't work

I have a problem with spotlight indexing.
It fails on me in a number of different ways.
Sometimes, when I try to reindex, it will never finish (Estimating indexing time... appears forever).
Sometimes, when I try to reindex, it will never finish (100 hours left ... appears forever).
Sometimes, it finisches indexing, but will not index any new file that I create,
or find out that I actually changed the location or the content of some of the already indexed files.
I write sometimes, because I really did not find out when happens when.
I tried everything available on the internet of course:
Reindexing by adding/removing the entire harddisk from the privacy tab,
using the commandline tools
mdutil -i off /
mdutil -E
mdutil -i on /
removing /.Spotlight-V100
in a number of combinations,
unmounting the disk, booting with an external disk, then mounting and repairing the disk,
in addition repairing permissions on the disk,
resetting the pram/nvram of my macbook pro early 2008,
adding a huge number of folders to the privacy tab before starting to index,
then slowly removing them...
Nothing helped.
I am absolutely stuck.
No hint on the internet how one could lead spotlight to reindex just a specific part of the
filesystem. No hint how spotlight behaves and why.
Every help appreciated.

You are right, these are pages explaining a bit how it works.
However, my special problem seems to be that spotlight, at some point,
stops indexing. And I did not find out which is the switch that tells
the spotlight indexing machine to restart indexing when a new file is created or an old one is changed, or to continue indexing yet unknown files. It seems to me that this is somehow the fundamental thing that's broken in my case.
When doing what you propose (as I already wrote above), spotlight does start
to index again, but somewhere down the road justs stops.
Right now, it has indexed for over 24 hours, and when searching for something,
I just get "estimating indexing time".
mds and mDNSResponder are the only processes that start with "md", and both run
at quasi 0% CPU.
No mdworker process has been running for over 22 hours.
The size of /.Spotlight-V100 is 3.4 MB.
Now, I have a standard macbook pro early 2008 running standard 10.6.3 with a standard 500 GB drive, more than half of it available.
What could be wrong with this structure?

Another subscription - doesn't work

Hi! I am new with Skype. I first bought "Thailand 120 min" package on 3 June as a try. Now I have used all of 120 minutes. Today I wanted to buy another "Thailand 120 min". However, I did a mistake, I bought a 10-euro Skype credit instead. Later, I used my Skype credit to buy another "Thailand 120 min" for me. However, I found the message "Your subscription has been suspended as you have exceeded your allocated free minutes.Your free minutes will start again on Jul 3, 2012". After reading the FAQ, I clicked on 'Get another subscription'. Later, I got the mail notified that the order was derivered. However, I found only one subscription in my account that has no minute.
Now my Skype credit is only 5.02 euro left, so the buying is successfull, but I have no minute to make a phone call. I have no idea what I did wrong.
Please give me a suggestion how I should do to get minutes to phone to Thailand.

You should have purchased a subscription with different number of minutes. For example "Thailand 60minutes".
What happened now is you just extended your service for additional month.

Search / Spotlight doesn't work properly with my notes

hi together,
i have a strange issue with my iphone.
when i search with spotlight or use the search field in the notes app it doesnt seem to recognize all notes. some found some not. never experienced that issue in other apps than notes. really annoying cause you can not rely on the results.
is there a way to reset the spotlight db or any other tipps how to tackle that.

Here:
1. Delete ALL your controllers from your controller setup page.
2. Quit Logic.
3. REMOVE all drivers for your old controller. Ask Tascam if you don't know where they placed them.
4. Unplug the Mackie MCU from the MIDI.
5. Go to your Audio Midi Setup, and remove all controllers from this application.
6. Quit AMS Setup.
7. Plug in your MCU.
8. Turn on your MCU, while pressing the channel 1 and channel 2 select buttons (the little ones above the faders).
9. The MCU MODE is now on the LCD screen, you need to select "Logic Control" by pressing the LAST encoder knob, number 8. then the MCU should re-start.
10. Open AMS setup application, and add the MCU device, and connect it to the right MIDI ports. Test by using the test button, and click on the MCU. All the lights should go ON on the MCU when you click on it.
11. Quit AMS setup.
12. Open Logic Pro, and open the controller setup page. If Logic does NOT scan automatically, do a manual scan, so Logic finds the MCU.
13. Once it's set up, you're done.
