Another stolen ipad - what should i do to be sure my info is safe?

Just got back from a trip where my ipad was stolen. Few questions:
- what should i do to disable my itunes account?
- is there any other info i should be aware of blocking?
- ither than the police, where should i report its seriel number?
- it was a 3G model and as such has IMEI number, should i black list this too?

A few things:
1) Report it to the police and keep a copy of the police report.
2) If it was stolen at a hotel, talk to the hotel manager. A lot of hotels will say you leave items in the room at your own risk, but they need to know you hold them responsible. The manager 'may' cover the loss or at least the deductable. If not, go over their heads to the regional manger. Maybe the hotel's insurance will cover it. They will resist, because it makes them look bad.
3) Your homeowners insurance may cover it. Ask your agent. Deductable will apply and a claim could affect future premiums.
4) Your credit card used to purchase it may cover it. Read your contract.
5) Theft loss is tax deductable so keep the police report for the 2010 tax season.

4 months ago i bought what i thought was a new ipad. it was sealed, even had unbroken plastic wrap on the outside box. it was a wifi/cellular model.

As long as i can get my money back, i have no problems trying to get the device back to the original owner, but i don't know how. Since it has been 4 months the window for filing a claim with ebay is gone. Also, even if the claim was successful, all ebay would have me do is ship it back to the seller (which would probably flip it back on ebay) and the original owner would never get their device back. Anyone have any advice? I don't feel comfortable owning something like this, and yet it seems like my options are very limited.

The warranty is one year from the date of the original purchase from Apple or an authorized reseller. So, all that you know is that it was purchased, stolen and resold in a fairly short period of time.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

Connect the iOS device to your computer and try to make a backup ( I doubt you can)

Then restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased. Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode if necessary to allow the restore.
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

I installed iOS5 last night and was having the same problems described above with my iPad 1 32 GB + 3G. Unknown Error (1) and was unable to restore.
I took my ipad to the local Apple Store today and was told by the genius that it was a hardware issue, and because the warranty had expired, there was nothing the Store could do. He suggested that I try calling AppleCare. Then I asked to speak with a manager. He apologized again and said there was just nothing the Store could do. I was close to leaving, when I asked a second time if it would be possible to see a Manager.
After asking a second time, he called a manager. After explaining my issue to her, she immediately authorized him to give me a new iPad ! Anyone with this problem should definitely go to the store and be polite but adamant. You should get a new iPad.

TIPS first things have i should do for my stolen ipad:
- make police reporting
- send message and check ipad location on find my ipad/iphone (mobileme.com) follow all directions
- and remote lock or wipe ( but check and make sure that available to you to restore on new ipad before you wipe)

This is honestly, the second time it's been stolen and I'm SICK SICK SICK of it.
