Another stolen iPhone 4s

I know this subject has been beaten to death on every forum on the internet but I am doing it again!
My wife's iPhone 4S was stolen at Universal Studios Orlando. The thief knew what they were doing because they turned it off immediatly so it cannot be tracked. I guess their next step is to do a clean restore and I'm sol.
Here's my issue. I called AT&T after hours support number and was told that they could put an IMEI block on the phone and tag it, so that if the thief ever tried to register it, it would not allow it and would tell AT&T that is was stolen. They would try track it. Fantastic, this is exactly what I wanted. However, the operator told me that I should wait a few days to see if they switch it back on, so I could track it with Find My iPhone as this was a more reliable method.
I did that and then decided to go ahead a block it. Now when I call AT&T, nobody (and I have been though 5 levels of supervisors) is able to do this block. They claim it is not something that they can do.
Why on earth would this after hours support operator be so knowledgable about the workings of this IMEI block, if it was not possible and not something they offer ?? This makes no sense.  If this guy was just blowing smoke about it, then why in the world don't they offer this (apart from the obviouse profit center in stolen iPhones).
This being my 2nd iPhone stolen and both times both Apple and AT&T's complete lack of interest in helping have left a very bad taste. In my case, the phone is covered by my Amex insurance and the money is not the point (Although I am sure it is for lots of others who have had their phone's stolen).
The point is that I don't want this thief to get away with this. Both of these companies have the ability and infrastructure to block stolen iPhones (they've done it in the past for illegal tethering etc.), however they choose not to as it is a huge profit center. Almost all overseas cell providers do this. What is required to get Apple and AT&T to do the right thing ?

Apparently everyone else at AT&T have never heard of it either. I'm just telling you what this first guy told me in great detail and I would love to know if the calls really are recorded. Then again he was probably from India, where (like everywhere else) they do block stolen IMEI numbers, so who knows ?
To you're 2nd point, it's only in the US where the providers and manufacturers don't do anything. It's big money to providers and I bet they have lobbyists fighting things like this.
The Privacy Act argument is ludicrous. If you have a police report and case number, you can use any legal method to find your property. A thief attempting to register a stolen phone should be immediatly tracked. However, if that is too "Big Brother" for you, then simply not allowing them to register it, is all that is required to deter the thefts. It is still your property and you have the right to disable it.
Also if Privacy was the issue why are companies allowed to sell laptop tracking software, lowjacks etc. I don't buy that argument at all.
The point is that they can stop these thefts if they want to, especially smart phones that need to be registered to used.

  • I reported to Austin Police Department about my unlocked iphone was stolen last week. I'm ****** off that Serial number of my stolen iphone is on another Apple ID.   IMEI still is not added into blacklist.  How can I contact to Apple Inc??

I don't understand why Austin Police are not doing to detain theft when I showed an location with valid address according Find my iPhone on icloud.com.  They said that it might be wrong location but few blocks were correct location. I stopped at Apple Retail Store to get another unlocked iphone. I explained an employee whether they would add both IMEI and serial number into blacklist to make useless for anyone. They said they have nothing to doing.
I'm shocked today that IMEI number is still not added into blacklist. Serialnumber of my stolen iphone is already on another Apple ID, after restoring it.
They let me down because unlocked iphone is EXPENSIVE, it costs $800 in Canada.
How can I deal with Apple Inc to add both serial number and IMEI into blacklist UNTIL i get my stolen iphone back

What blacklist? There is no universal blacklist in the US. They're working on it, but it does not exist as of this writing.
Apple can't do anything about it. They are not a law enforcement agency.

  • My stolen Iphone 4S is registered under another apple ID (not mine). Help to stop Chiefs of our Iphones!

My stolen Iphone 4S (DNPGN90ADTDF) is registered under another apple ID (not mine).
I have Apple ID but I have never registered my Apple products on this web site. One of them Iphone 4S has been stolen and I wanted to inform the administration and users about it.  I was trying  to register it  under my ID and found out that it has been registered under another apple ID.
I have papers from the French Police about the stolen Iphone, I have Iphone's box with serial number and if it's important I can request the check.
How can I find out information about the Apple ID who registered my stolen Iphone?
P.S. My very expensive bag was stolen where were the Iphone and a lot of documents and very important things.

  • Stolen iPhone serial number associated with another AppleID

    Hey Guys
If I give one of you my stolen iPhone's serial number, would you be able to tell if it's associated with another persons AppleID?
I would love to know who is using my iPhone...
    Thanks
    -Bruce

You should assume it's stolen, though there's also the possibility you or someone else in the house used a different Apple ID to register it when you first got it, and don't remember.
Find my iPhone will still work regardless of who it's registered to. No one can sign out of iCloud (and therefore Find my iPod) on the device without entering your Apple ID and password )the one used to sign into iCloud).

  • Stolen iPhone 4 and follow-up Call from Apple

    Hey guys,
My girlfriends iPhone 4 (32GB locked to Rogers) was stolen about a week and a half ago. She had Find My iPhone on it and we used it to lock and clear the phone right away, but since the phone was already turned off we were not able locate it. We get an e-mail the next day from the app saying that the lock and message were sent, which means the person who stole it probably turned it on. We still weren't able to locate the phone using the app so we just assumed they re-formatted the phone, cleared it, and logged out of iCloud. We thought end of story, we lost an iPhone, but there's nothing we could do. We go to an Apple store, tell them the phone was stolen and they proceed to use Find My iPhone to clear and lock the phone again (they say they weren't allowed to brick it and we weren't given the option to report it stolen).
Anyways, fast forward to a week later (night of Monday, Nov 5, 2012). We get a call from apple (call center 512-674-2000). The caller is Betty who works for Apple and she asks us if we have sold an iPhone on kijiji/eBay recently. We tell them that we've actually recently had the phone stolen and ask if someone's returning it. They say not quite, just that someone was tryign to contact apple with the iPhone's serial code. Unfortunately at this point the phone is very low on batter (<10%) so we ask if they can call back at another number. Betty says okay. We don't get a call back.
We call back the apple number that called us, but the call center is closed (it was around 8:15 EST). So we call the Apple Canada Hotline (we're from Toronto). The issue gets escalated to a manager and they're pretty much saying there's no notes on why the call was made. There definately has to be a reason for apple to call us asking if the phone was sold right? They tell us to call the number that called us earlier the following day to see if we can contact Betty who called us earlier. However, they do tell us that they ahve on their record that Betty called us, and prior to that, someone called with an issue about the stolen iPhone's serial code (we had not called in).
So we wait until the next day can call the 512 number. Pretty much we keep getting passed around with people telling us they can't do anything since there's no notes on the file and they can't redirect us to Betty.
My question is: There HAD to be a reason why they called us right? The phone was stolen at a friends house, where we thought we knew everybody. If we can get any information on who the original call was from maybe we can find out who stole the phone? Has anyone had a similar experience or does anyone have any advice on what to do? I'm sure apple knows something, but they are just not telling us. Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to get all the details out there! Thanks for any help!

But if an issue is reported using the serial code of the stolen product, could they not tell me what number it was called from?
I understand that they can't do much, but I just wanted to know the original reason why Apple called us in the first place to ask whether we sold the iphone on kijiji or eBay recently.

  • STOLEN IPHONE - IS IT POSSIBLE TO FIND IT?

Is it possible to find my stolen iPhone through the imie code? using iphone makes sense when you have an Apple ID. Is it possible to find my iPhone through IMEI if someone restored the pjone and connected it to a new Apple ID? That would mean that one IMEI is in two Apple Accounts. Is it possible to find out that?
Second question - I didn't have Find My Phone software on the stolen iPhone, but installed it on another (old one i have) and it showed both iphones the old one i am using now and the stolen one. The fact that the stolen device appears in my account means that the phone has not been restored or it could have been restored and now works in another account?
    Thanks for information in advance.

    Dear AnaMusic,
I read the infomration in the link you sent me, but there is no information about the option 'report a stolen device'. I can't see any option like that one. I can see only that I can look for it through 'Find My iPhone' application, which, I heard, is useless if the telephone has been restored.
Where can I report a stolen iphone?
    regards,
    Martin

  • How can I get my stolen IPhone 4 serial Nom.?

How can I get my stolen IPhone 4 serial Nom.?

Another option is if you synced the iPhone with iTunes on the computer. If you did that, go into iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Devices, and locate your last backup. If you hover the mouse over that backup, it will display the serial number, phone number, IMEI, and UIUD.

  • Why doesnt apple report stolen iphone activations

why doesnt apple have some way of reporting a stolen iphone mine was stolen and i have the find my phone app and its been online once and nothing since that was in december it was stolen in november of last year.  I paid cash for had no insurance on disablility cannot afford another one.  I paid cash when I got my back pay now I have no iphone and nothing i can do.  apple should have some type of system to see that a phone is stolen or not.

In addition to all of the reasons already given, Apple is not in the business of tracking and listing stolen property.  Theft of iPhones, and other smart phones, has reached epidemic proportions in most large cities.  The only people who have a real reason to keep records of stolen phones would be the cell service providers.
The new iOS version 7 has an anti-theft protection feature - the Activation Lock.  Using that feature makes the iPhone useless to the thief.  But the user must turn that on for it to work.

  • My stolen iphone ?

Can my stolen iphone be activated with another company if I suspended with mine?

If you didn't set up Find My iPhone and hence Activation Lock, then yes, it could be used with another carrier. In some countries the carriers cooperate so that a phone blocked on one will be blocked on all, but that won't prevent the thief from selling the iPhone to someone in another country.
    Regards.

  • How to know if someone has jailbroken my stolen iPhone 5

My iphone 5 was stolen 1 month ago. I think the guy who stole it must get it jailbroken. How can I know who is using my phone?

You cannot tell that and all they need to do is restore it to factory settings and it is a new iPhone...however, some carriers can/will block a stolen iPhone based on the iMEI if it has been reported.  In that case it would have to be jailbroken to be used on another carrier.

My iPhone 5was stolen but unfortunately I installed the find my phone app after it was stolen and now have another iPhone. I can still track my stolen iPhone on my iPad and it is in my neighborhood but I can't exactly knock on the door and demand it back. If I play the sound and send messages they appear on my new phone, however. If I can't get my old phone back I want to make it impossible for the new user to operate it. I have erased all the data on the old phone to the best of my knowledge. I don't want to erase it as I'm scared all the data on my new phone will be erased.please help. I am in Indonesia.

But did you enable Find My iPhone in settings on your stolen phone before it was stolen?  If you didn't, you can't track it or do anything else using Find My iPhone.
    Trevorlucas wrote:

How are you doing that if you didn't enable Find My iPhone on it before it was stolen?  Are you sure you aren't tracking your new phone rather than your old one?
If I play the sound and send messages they appear on my new phone
That's an indication that you are tracking your new phone, not your old one.

  • Stolen Iphone. Is there ANY way to recover photos!?

Like many other people on these discussions, I have been the victim of a stolen Iphone 6 very recently. I've erased the phone via Find My Iphone and let my service provider know. The only thing that is concerning me are the photos. Before the phone was stolen, I had about 1000 photos in the photostream on my Ipad. Right after the phone was stolen, the photostream just deleted off the ipad. The only photos I can see on my ipad and when I login to Icloud are the photos that I had saved onto the ipad (like screenshots and stuff. No one actually takes photos on Ipad so I basically have no photos at all.). I'm so confused.
Until now, I had NO idea that the new IOS 8 now only keeps photos in the photo stream for 30 days. This is ridiculous. I've had 3 generation of Iphones and my photos have always just been in the 'cloud' and always just transfer to my next phone without any issue. I'm traveling in Asia for 3 months without a computer, so of course I haven't been transferring my photostream photos to itunes every 30 days. The theft happened in Cambodia, leaving absolutely no chance of my phone being found.
So does this mean that literally every photo I've ever had in the photostream is gone?! Does anyone know if there are any programs to restore photos from the photostream? Even if I could somehow recover the photos that are from the last 30 days on the iphone..
    Thanks!
    Caitlin

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Photo stream has always only kept the last 30 days photos. If you haven't maintained a back up, there is nothing you can do about any photos over 30 days unless they had already been uploaded to another device.

Please help me at least to secure my information on my stolen iphone as soon as possible

"Could any one help me to find my stolen iphone? "
No.  There is nothing you can do, but report it to the police and change your passwords.
The serial number will not help you find it, but you can get the serial number:

  • HT4993 stolen iphone 5

    Hi,
I'm currently our of the USA. My phone was recently stolen. I use Sprint and called them to block and filed a claim (I was paying insurance)That's all done and I'm expecting another phone. Is there anything else I need to do in order to let Apple know about my stolen device? I registered it online but not sure if I have to do anything else.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:
This link, Re: Help! I misplaced / lost my iPhone 5 today morning in delta Chelsea hotel downtown an I am not able to track it. Please help!, has some good advice regarding your options when your iDevice is lost or stolen.
