Another stuck SNR margin problem

I had been running my Draytek Vigor 2820 router for some time quite successfully, with a SNR margin of about 6, and a download speed of between 5,500 and 6,000 bps. In June, we had a thunderstorm and powercut. When everything came back, the SNR margin was 12, and the speed between 3,000 and 3,500 bps. Eventually, the SNR margin went down to 9, and the speed up to about 4,500 bps. I can't get it back to the original values.
The current router stats show:-
Up time:- 213 hours
Up speed:- 992000 bps
Down speed:- 4512000 bps
SNR Margin:- 9
Loop Att.:- 47
TX CRC Errors:- 3
RX CRC Errs:- 0
I am only creating this thread so that I can then raise it with the Moderators, because there is no point at all in trying to get India to understand what I am talking about.
Mike.

  • Recovery of speed/target SNR margin after resoluti...

I have had a line fault on my phone line (noise due to a damaged pair near the exchange) for the last couple of months until I finally got around to getting this fixed. This had resulted in many many frequent disconnections of the ADSL rounter and as a result the target SNR margin for the service currently seems to be somewhere around 12. Since the line has been fixed (perfectly clear phone line now) I was hoping that either a) BT could manually reset the target SNR margin or b) failing that the recovery would not take too long. I raised a fault and was informed that "something has been done" but there was no evidence of this. Having been away on business for the last week I thought I would see what happened over this time but it seems that after a week of no disconnections on the router the synchronisation speed still has not improved. Here is the current status of the ADSL connection

21CN adsl2+ connections can suffer profoundly from banded profiling.
If the line has seen frequent problems, as is the case, it may take from 3-5 days to see an improvement.
The dynamic line management of 21CN pays a lot of credence to connection history, and coming out of banded profiles can often be lengthy. Your connection even though now fixed has to recover, unfortunately your throughput for the BRAS profile, something totally different ... is not good.
You can either wait and look for improvement over the next few days .... or drop an email in to the moderators.
They can get the banded profiling lifted ... and see how you go.
I'm a little surprised it wasn't requested after the line repair, sometimes it is .... sometimes not.
The noise margin at 12db is not too bad, but should get better with time, if BTw don't reset it.

  • Slow speed/high SNR margin after upgrade to ADSL2+...

I have an issue with slow speed that I am suspecting is caused by a high SNR margin (about 12dB) which has come about (I believe) due to the fact that my router was repeatedly reset during the first few days of the upgraded service. The exchange was upgraded to ADSL2+ on 3rd January.
I have a US Robotics 9108 which has worked fine for nearly six years. I was getting around 8Mbps before the upgrade which isn't far off the theoretical maximum.
There was a problem with my router and I only found it to be my router at fault over the last few days. Upgrading its firmware has cured the problem which was that requests weren't being fulfilled once connection had been established, (seemingly particularly when this was ADSL2+ or ADSL2 mode). Consequently, I reset my router in these instances and I believe that this will have been interpretted by the exchange as being due to line noise. In general, I disabled ADSL2 and 2+ modes on my router to force it back to G.DMT and it usually worked fine (albeit slow sync rate relative to that I had before 3rd January).
During fault conditions, the connection synced OK. I recently borrowed a router and tried it and it immediately connected faster than mine had done previously and I could access the web without issue. This confirmed that my US Robotics was at fault, and after downloading its latest firmware, it fixed the problem.
There is no bell wire as there are no hard wired extensions from the master socket. I use a single filter which plugs directly into the master socket (i.e. no extension lead to the filter).
I was using a BT filter (MF50) I got in 2004 when I first got broadband. This came with a Voyager 100 modem and is a rebranded YCL one. I have since replaced this with a Z350-UK which I have borrowed. The US Robotics didn't come with any filters.
With the BT filter, caller display does not work at all when the router is connected in ADSL2 mode. In G.DMT mode the problem with caller display was intermittent. The Z350-UK has rectified the problem with caller display not working when in ADSL2 mode. I have ordered a Pressac Interstitial VDSL Faceplate as a perminant solution.
Do I need to contact the support helpline to get this fixed? Or will the SNR margin drop over time? As I say, I got around 8Mbps before the upgrade.
I am presently connected in 2+ mode and stats are:

  • SNR Margin Reset?

For some time now I have been concerned that my broadband speed was quite a bit lower than all of my close neighbours. Tried all of the usual things, filters, internal wiring, faceplates etc with no improvement. My connection appears to be quite stable, just slower than it should be at 2600m from the exchange. Having read several of the messages on this forum regarding SNR Margin, it seems as though a reset to 6dB may be the solution to my problem?

  • Yet another stuck profile?

I think I too have a stuck profile. When I first connected using this modem/router (8 months or so) I was getting between 12 and 15 Mbps. about three months ago it dropped (gradually) down to its present speed. I recently renewed my contract and was told I should be getting around 14Mbps.
I have run all the line tests and they too indicate I should be receiving about 14Mbps. I have tried connecting direct to the socket and done the noise tests and everything else suggested on the forum.
I have included the speed test results plus the stats from my modem. Any suggestions would be welcome.

  • SNR Margin reset after water ingress

    Hi all,
we've had some water ingress in February, which made the broadband connection drop frequently.
As a result, the SNR Margin has shot up to 15db.
The problem has been fixed, and I've had a stable connection for over 16 days now.
I was hoping the SNR Margin would self-reset, and have just rebooted, however, it's still at 15db.
How can I get it reset?
150 customer help have absolutely no idea what I'm talking about...
    thanks for your help,
    T

if your connection is dropping frequently and is therefore the cause of your high 15db noise margin then you need to find the cause of the drops before you can get you noise margin reduced back to normal 6db.  it is pointless with a manual reset as the constant drops will just set you back to square one with15db or higher in no time
if water ingress then you need an engineer to try and find the source of the problem.  getting engineer after it's been raining could be a problem

  • Default Target SNR Margin

I was wondering if I could request that the MODS can arrange for my default SNR margin to be decreased back to the default 6dB.  After their help via this forum at the beginning of the year I have experienced a stable connection at 6dB for 50days+ without any resets but during early June the power adapter on my router intermittently failed (sparking sounds) which caused my router to power-cycle thus, I guess, forcing the exchange kit to increase my SNR up to the current level of 9bB.  Having now fixed the fault with my router I have currently been constantly synced for 13.5 days but the target SNR has not reverted back to 6dB.  As my line length is getting on for 6km from the exchange I am lucky to get 2.4meg downstream at 6dB but now that I am forced to 9dB then the speed has reduced to 2meg.  The difference may appear a small one to most but in my case this has a significant negative effect on my ability to use TV on demand, etc.
The stats are shown below.  The connection is really stable at both 6 and 9db.  I would just like to see the 6bB target reinstated please.  It's also worth noting that due to the high attenuation, interleaving has always been forced on by the exchange and this certainly improved things but for some reason the systems have recently switched interleaving off so I am now on fast path and I guess this also demonstrates that I experiencing a reasonable stable connection time.
Is there any particular algorithm used by the exchange kit to automatically reinstate things like the target SNR or interleving status on a connection?

  • HP 2600n's margin problem with driver 2.3

After installing the new driver v2.3, my printer started to have a margin problem. Even if I setup any margin correctly (on any software...) the page printed has borders cut off and it is shifted on the left (or, left margin is less than the right). Obviously, this problem was found with files that previously were printed correctly.
Only by reducing by more than one cm margins, the print is not cut, but the page continues to be shifted to the left.
    Any help?
    Thanks.

Try downloading and re-installing the Snow Leopard drivers and seeing if that fixes anything.

When printing in week view all 4 margins spill over the edge.
This occurs whether printing to paper or PDF.
Any fixes to this or is it a bug?

    Hi,
While playing with the values of ImageableArea I'm getting changes in printout
but can't really find the correct combination of values because I'm just guessing
what the values mean..ImageableArea provides the bounding box of the area in which the printer may print for the page size named mediaOption. There will be one statement for each named page size supported by the device. DefaultImageableArea provides the mediaOption name of the default imageable area. Since there can be only one default page size, this value should be the same as the value of DefaultPageSize, DefaultPageRegion, and DefaultPaperDimension.
The syntax for defining imageable area is as follows:
*ImageableArea mediaOption: "llx lly urx ury"
    *DefaultImageableArea: mediaOption | Unknown
ll stands for lower left corner and ur for upper right corner. The bounding box value of ImageableArea is given as four real numbers, representing the x and y coordinates of the lower left and upper right corners of the region, respectively, in the PostScript language default user space coordinate system. The x and y axes of a given page size correspond to the x and y axes of that page size in the PaperDimension entry.

    Hello:
I must apologize  .  I should have checked here first:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669#HP
According to the list, there is no driver for your printer included in OS X 10.7.
There are a couple of options:
    1.  Contact HP to see if they have a workaround.
    2. If the model of printer is not listed but your printer is a PostScript printer or PCL Laser printer, try the "Generic PostScript" or "PCL Laser printer" drivers.  Generic printer drivers may not let you access all the features of your printer.
I have not tried #2, but some people have had success.

  • Creative Vision W : Stuck on "Firmware Problem" scre

I've had my Vision: W player for about a year now, with no big problems (except for the fact that when I shut it down, it gets stuck on the "shutting down" screen for about 5 minutes, where I think it closes only because it's the idle shutdown. Any help on that, also?)
Yesterday I tried teh Sync for the first time, seeing if I could syn DVD movies onto it. (I couldn't.) This morning, when I wanted to use it, I turned it on and it said "Firmware problem"
This was before coming onto the forums. Well I decided to "Clean Up" and after that it still didn't work. I tried rebooting a couple of times, but nothing. Then, it being a firmware problem, I decided to press reload firmware - not knowing what i was doing. I decided at that time that it would be a good idea to back up my files before proceeding to any other ste
    ps.
After connecting it to my computer, it simply said "Storage Media - 50 GB of 50 GB" and was completely empty.
I, being devastated and helpless, found this site and decided I'll download the firmware then try reloading it again. Unfortunately the first time I tried updating it, it stopped updating near the end. I waited about 0 minutes but it still didn't finish. I disconnected my player and removed the battery because it wouldn't shut down any other way. After replacing the battery, connecting the player, and turning it on again, it simply got stuck on "Firmware Problem" on the screen.
    What do I do now?

I tried doing that but it doesn't work. The firmware upgrade screen doesn't see my player as connected. I've tried having the palyer off, then turning it on, and disconnecting/reconnecting but even while it's connected the player isn't docked and still has the firmware problem screen.

  • Linksys X2000 SNR Margin

I am very glad the Firmware version v2.0.05 has been released to address and rectify the bugs on the previous firmware release.
I am wondering if this update brings any hidden features like checking the SNR and Attenuation statistics of the DSL line?
Sometimes its vital to check and monitor those numbers so it would be great if there is a way round to it or if a future firmware release will add the possiblity to check the SNR and Attentuation.
    Cheers!

I can acces my SNR margin now, after installed Router Stats, Thx
