Another succesful Superdrive fix

Like some of you I had troubles reading some CD (mostly the ones burnt on PC) with my Superdrive. I read on a post that a cleaning CD could help. It did. Everything seems to work fine now.
However I also read that the problem might be due to dust so I decided to open my good old machine. It was REALLY dusty. This may explain why some people successfully cleaned their Superdrive lens, and saw the problem reoccuring a few month later.
It may be advisable to clean your lens, but also the interior of the iMac. It is really easy.

Mine was rejecting some CDs, mostly PC burned ones but not only. Maybe it was just the beginning of dust invasion, and you're at the end.

The only way is to connect the iPod to a computer with has an internet connection and iTunes and restore the iPod. Use as friiend's computer or make an appointment at ther Geniuds Bar of an Apple store.

Photo Booth iSight "in use by another application" - possible fix!!!

Hi everyone.
I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.10 and a few days ago I developed the problem of the inbuilt iSight camera in my new 20" iMac failing to work with Photo Booth, iChat etc. I kept getting the dreaded message "in use by another application".
After trying various fixes and tips from elsewhere I finally came upon a website which had a hint saying you could disable the iSight camera by moving the "QuickTimeUSBVDCDIgitizer.component" file from the System/Library/Quicktime folder.
Even though this wasn't related to my problem I checked to see if I had the file and realised it wasn't there! So I downloaded it from another source, popped it in the folder mentioned above, and hey-presto! My iSight is now working again. I have no idea why the file was missing originally.
If anyone else has had this problem please check this out, it may just work for you too!

When I change the color using windows 7, apparently firefox runs slower. The videos I watch are spotty and looking like it's in slow motion. Sometimes I get a prompt to use firefox colors and this fixes it. But why can't I use other colors, and are there settings to help me fix this problem? Thank you for any information you can give me. I have 8.1 and iTunes and its working. My cloud doesn't so I had to remove the 'sync contacts and calendar to the cloud' and to back to the old say, but I just synced my iPad and iPos (both running 7.0.3) last night and it worked.
There are features with 8.1 that may be messing things up. For example there's a setting when you upgrade to 8.1 where you can turn off the automatic install of drivers. With devices, every time the iOS and iTunes updates there is a new driver to make your device visible on a computer. If you turn off that auto install then you may have blocked your computer from getting that driver.
In addition, with iOS7 there came the 'do you trust this computer' which is a choice you have to make on your device. If you tell your device no, then it may have issues connecting to your computer.

I should also point out that when I connect my iPhone, it DOESN'T appear as a connected drive on the desktop. Not sure how this can be so, since the iPhone also has a drive and also functions as an iPod if I want it to. I must have changed some setting to achieve this non-appearance, but don't remember what I must have done.

Is MBA's superdrive fixed to a certain dvd region?

I used my superdrive to watch a dvd for the first time with a foreign region (zone) while traveling.
Is this foreign region now the default region on my Mac? Can it be changed?
I read elsewhere online, that a pop-up appears when inserting a a dvd that is not of the default region. The region could then be changed only four times. No pop-up has shown for me, but I've only used it with dvds from one region. I found no info about the Air specifically. My previous Windows based PC locked the region after a certain number of viewings.
Could it be that it does not make a difference, since the Air in itself does not contain the dvd drive, but that it is extenal?
So that I could freely insert dvds from all regions? Or does the computer register the dvds nonetheless?
Any help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Another non-official fix for LR2's non-exporting keywords

Just as Zak Beck's fix, this is NOT an official fix! I'm sure Adobe's fix will be out soon, but for those who don't want to wait and are a bit adventurous, here's my fix :) You will need a copy of your old LR1 catalog and your new LR2 catalog. This utility will read each keyword from the old catalog and apply the same setting to Include On Export, Include Parents and Include Synonyms in the new catalog. FAIR WARNING!!! This is not tested rigorously!!! I did this for my own catalogs, and it works on them. It passes LR's integrity check, opens fine in LR2 and I have checked around 30 (of 9000) keywords and they all seem to be correct now. However, PLEASE MAKE A BACKUP of your LR2 catalog prior to running this. You never know... Needless to say, this comes with no warranty whatsoever, use at your own risk! OK, so I've updated the tool now. This is what's different:
-Separate packages for Win32 and OSX
-Output is more informative now. Note the levels: INFO, WARNING and ERROR. INFO is just FYI, nothing went wrong. WARNING means something non-critical happened and the tool should continue to process. ERROR usually means a critical error happened and the tool will quit. Also, if a keyword from LR1 was not found in LR2, it will tell you so.
-I actually check that the LR2 keyword is the same by complete name, case sensitive. So, e.g., if LR1 keyword was 'Los Angeles^California^USA', the LR2 keyword must be exactly the same, not e.g. 'los angeles^california^usa' or 'Los Angeles^USA', etc. This may be a nuisance for some but I felt it was better to be strict here. If really needed, I can add an option to let the user choose how strict the tool will be.

Another solution to fix MAIL

Finally, I somehow managed to fix Mail app from hanging, eating CPU, crashing and doing all nasty things well known in this forum.
I would not say that is exactly the cure, but here is what I've done:
1) Put ISP DNS in the Airport station
2) Cleaned up entire Mac partition
3) Installed Tiger, clean
4) Downloaded all updates
5) Set up all accouts (all IMAP, Gmail and .Mac)
6) Downloaded all my e-mails
7) Upgraded to 10.5
8) Had to download even more mails
But mail no longer crashes

Quick note, you'll also need VLC player to properly get the video off the DVDs you own with handbreak.

Device linked to another iTunes library fix with no restore needed

Very weird experience but had a happy ending!
I Set up a new iPhone 6 on the device itself (iOS 8, connected to MY iTunes account and iCloud etc.).
I then ripped a CD to iTunes on my MacBook to put onto the iPhone (again with MY iTunes account). Connected the iPhone to the Mac and iTunes told me it was a new device and wanted to set it up. I was given 2 options, 'New Device' or 'Restore from backup' (i have 3 backups on my system, my old iPhone, father in-laws and my mothers). I chose 'New device' and clicked next. iTunes then threw an error (I didn't catch what it said), I clicked ok and it took me back to the 2 options again, I clicked cancel and unplugged my iPhone.
When I plugged it back in, iTunes took me to the iPhone's 'Summary' tab (device file space etc), i click manual organisation of music and videos and clicked sync and received the error that it was sync to another iTunes library (my father-in-law's iTunes Library!! - No restore took place on the phone, the iPhone hadn't been connected to any other computer or had any other iTunes account set up on it other than my own) and that I had to erase and restore the device!
Solution (for me) -
This annoyed me big time but I bit the bullet and took the following steps towards erasing my iPhone as requested:-
1. Backed up the iPhone to the Mac (not iCloud)
2. Clicked the 'Manual management of music/videos"
3. Click 'Sync' in the bottom right
4. Got the 'Wrong iTunes library' error
5. Followed the steps to erase the device
6. Screen flicked back to the device 'Summary' page instantly, device didn't erase or restore and the library was now recognised and I could drag the newly ripped music to the device!!!
It was a strange and annoying hiccup but I searched for an answer online and couldn't find one. So incase anybody else gets this weirdness I thought I'd share my experience.

What that means, is the iPod is synced to a specific itunes database file.
C:\Users\~username~\Music\iTunes\iTunes Library.itl
If you didn't make a copy of that file before you restored your PC, then it's gone.
You will have to start over with all your play lists, play counts, ratings, etc.

i was in the middle of updating my ipad and of course the battery died, the computer doesnt charge up the ipad while plugged in (very stupid) and now it wants to restore i don't want to lose all my trophies in the games that ive played if i do a restore....can anyone help me

If you backed up the iPad before you tried to update, you can restore the iOS and then restore from the backup. If you don't have a backup, there is nothing that you can do about it now.
You will have to restore the iPad in order to make it operational again and you will lose all of your data. If you don't sync with iTunes and cannot recover your media again that way, you can download most purchased content again for free as long as you use the same Apple ID.
