Another Topic Post OVER A DEAD HP TOUCHSMART TX2 SERIES

I'm a college student, and for my highschool graduation my family was kind enough to get me a laptop. Now the school I attend recommended an a Tablet. So my parents get me the Hp TouchSmart Tx2.
Now the computer ran great in the first few mins, intill my lap starting buring from the heat of the bottom.
The computer worked fine intill about 4 months in....the hard drive starts clicking...i send it in....still under warrenty get the hard drive replaced.
Get it back works fine, 5months later, screen goes black, can't even log on....hp tells me the motherboard needs replaced around 500 bucks.....now i've seen the constant chatter about the tx series and I've read that the dv series has the same motherboard as the tx series and the dv series got recalled. NOW, i'm not going to let my parents hard earned cash go to waste.....WTF is the point of this forum if HP DOESN"T EVEN ACKNOWLEGE ANY OF IT......I'm already neck deep in student loans....I can't afford fixing a computer with a defect.....So Hp i better hear something from you soon
There is something wrong with these laptops, and innocent....already in debt families are paying the price.

Lets take a chance it is for W7
go here and download the correct version of W7 (home or pro, they don't have a starter edition), bit version 32 or 64, and language, it will be a very large iso file, once downloaded, burn it to a DVD+R blank disc as an Image, this can be done on a Windows 7 PC, by right clicking on the iso file and select "open with" > "windows disc image burner"
http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/
This will make a regular windows 7 install disc you can use to get Windows installed, use the key to see if it will activate.
Then you will have to download drivers for your particular model from the HP site and install.

    Hi,
If you both have iChat or Messages you can use it's Screen Sharing abilities.
You can do this AIM to AIM (Screen Names that are valid with the AIM service which includes some Apple Issued Apple ID names - although this can be version dependent)
You can also do it Jabber ID to Jabber ID.
Jabber IDs include Google Mail IDs set up for Google talk and Facebook Accounts with Chat Enabled.
Check you can Video chat with the person as it takes a similar amount of Bandwidth (the bit of the Internet Speed you computer gets).
You needs to Enable Screen Sharing in the Video Menu of iChat or the Messages app in Mountain Lion.
Highlight the Buddy in the Buddy list and use the icon at the bottom of the Buddy list (It will offer your to them  or them to you)
You can also use the Buddies menu when a Buddy is highlighted.
It is also possible to "switch" to Screen Sharing in a Video chat.
In reality it instantly closes the Video chat and Starts the Screen Share.
It does not have the ability to "Switch" back as closing the Screen Share close the connection.
Screen Sharing includes a Audio Chat alongside  (Technically it is an Audio  Chat with an Apple Remote Desktop type VNC connection.  The Apple Remote Desktop engine provides the "Desktop" "Pics").
To do this VNC part you router will need to be using UPnP (Or Port Mapping Protocol in Apple Base Stations)
AS Video chats and Audio chats use the same ports to connect it means that if you can Video your can Screen Share

i put the memory from auto to manual, and doesn't matter that if i change the timing from 2.5-3-3-8 2T to 3-4-4-8 2T....
The problem is the same when i set back the ram 200 to 166.... I tried clockgen, and it worked well until 240, but from 241 my win freezes and cannot boot until i press the button in the motherboard
It's working now on 11*235 @ 1.4V + 6.6% overlock.... i'll  change at weekeng my memories to kingmax hc 2x512mb 500mhz, however i dont mind this will change the fsb problem...

i'm using a box cooler, which was given to a x2 amd64 cpu... heatpipe version, holds cold the cpu, really good one.
maybe there is a misunderstanding between everest and my bios , becouse i use 1.4V + 6.6% overlock which is near 1.5V in BIOS, but everest shows only 1.2V cpu voltage.

  • Will people stumble across off topic posts on a blog?

In Summary my question is this: Have I ANY chance of people stumbling across off topic posts?
Let's say I have my website with a specific subject as far as domain and title and content are concerned.
    I.E: John's Tech Blog at techblogger.com
The content is pretty much all about tech stuff.
But then I see a film I like and want to review it...and put a review on there.
    OR
I want to discuss something I find interesting on the Psychology Today website (something less mainstream).
Have I ANY chance of people stumbling across either of these or similar?
I know a bit about SEO, and know...basically the more I mention something (keyword-wise) the better. Aswell as density, proximity etc of course.
Now, because 'movie' and 'review' and the title of the movie are only mentioned in close proximity on that one page...does this mean nobody will find it?
Let's also assume I re-post these posts on 5 other article sites linking back.
So basically again: Have I ANY chance of people stumbling across off topic posts?

Most likely not to many, of course you will get a little google juice from the link.

  • TouchSmart tx2-1370us Recovery Disc Set Failure

I am posting on behalf of my sister.  Here is her story:
Her TouchSmart tx2-1370us notebook's screen broke a while back.  It was under warranty from where she bought it from so it was sent off to be repaired.  When it came back the screen was fixed but there was a note stating they had lost her Windows 7.  The computer loaded and ran perfectly fine but it had the 'this is not a genuine copy of windows' pop-up.  She claims she was unable to read the product key sticker under the computer good enough to get it to accept anything she entered.  When she called the store, they told her HP would be able to help recover it.  HP sold her recovery discs that were supposed to restore the computer.  It is a 3-disc set, 2 labeled System Recovery DVD Windows 7 Home Premium and 1 supplemental CD labeled Application & Driver Recovery CD.  The CDs were ran multiple times always coming up as unsuccessful after the first 2 CDs.  I won't get into her customer support experience but she claims she spoke on the phone with HP 6 times over the course of a week and nothing they had to say or offer helped.  Always unsuccessful recovery message.  She gave up, almost crying at this point, and I said I'd try.
After a little searching I found a patch on HP's web site which would supposedly fix the recovery discs issue.  The patch was installed correctly, green checkmark and all, and all 3 CDs ran through successfully.  The computer rebooted and the HP Software Installation screen ran for a while before another restart then the usual recovery unsuccessful message.  I tried it plenty of times with the same result everytime.  I saved the log from the last go at it and will post it below.  It appears the BIOS states Vista as the OS but she bought the computer pre-loaded with Windows 7.  Could there be something in that fact causing an issue?
Someone suggested to reset the BIOS to factory defaults but that didn't work either.
When saving the log to USB I could see all the files, there's 3 drives listed SDV(C Local Disk(D & BOOT(X
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

  • TouchSmart tx2 motherboard failure

    Hi,
Hoping someone can point me in a direction..  Turned my laptop on the other day and got nothing.. NUM lock and CAPS lock blink once...  Yay motherboard failure!
It's well beyond warranty at this point, so I'm at a loss..  Do I attempt to replace it myself?  If so is there a better place to get the part?  is it worth it?  Safer to bring it somewhere and have them do it? Risk of hard drive loss?
The internet suggests I remove the motherboard and throw it in the oven (325 for 8 minutes)  thoughts?  will a blow dryer (for shrink wrap, not hair.. more powerful) solve issue? (at least temporarily so I can run a backup that's not a week old?)
    Really frustrating...
    HP Touchsmart tx2 FR239AV running Windows 7 64 bit.
    Thanks,
    Joe

Okay, I have the fix for this and it is very inexpensive, but takes some minimal work.  This same problem you all have described and I have found on many other forums happened to me 1.5 years into ownership; the screen did nothing, the num and caps lock lights flashed, and the PC otherwise acted like it was on (though the fan did not always run).  The first time it happened--1.5 years into ownership--I checked around with some geeks and everyone thought it was the motherboard.  I sent it back to HP because I had purchased an extended warranty and they said they had to replace the cpu.  Almost exactly 1.5 years later, the same problem happened again; this time I had no warranty so I assumed it was the cpu again.  I installed a new cpu and it did nothing to correct the problem.  I, then, noticed that my GPU and Southbridge were after-market additions or, at least, re-solders (it is very clear that they were not original because the repair person had applied a red glue to keep them in place and the fellow I speak of below confirmed that the repairs were post-purchase).  Since I purchased the computer new from HP and I knew that the only time the PC had been opened was by HP's repair department, this means HP's repair letter was incorrect when it stated they just replaced the CPU, because they actually did major work to my motherboard by replacing the GPU and Southbridge.  I also researced online and found that the likely culprit was actually the Gpu, not the Cpu; others are catching on to this problem.
I asked my neighbor, whose business is hardware repair on PCs, servers, etc.  He said that these AMDs were notorious for overheating (which I've always known) and he enlightened me on what happens when they overheat.  THEY DO NOT BURN OUT.  They just rise up off of the motherboard and come unsoldered from the motherboard.  "That's great, but what can you do about it," I said.  "Do I have to replace my motherboard when I almost certainly have 100% quality parts that just aren't connected to one another."  He said "no" and educated me quite a bit further.  The hair dryer thing can work, but these motherboard repair guys have an infrared heat gun to do the repair.  He took my motherboard, wrapped it in aluminum foil, and shot BOTH MY SOUTHBRIDGE AND MY GPU (seperately) at around 150-200 degrees celcius, then pressed down on them until they cooled.  Apparently, this works most of the time.  The only exceptions would be if the GPU or Southbridge has risen so much that the connections touch one another and short out or the GPU/Southbridge did, in fact, burn out.  Neither of these happen very often, though.  A few notes on this repair:  remove the CPU and clock battery from the motherboard before doing any heating and cover the other parts of the motherboard.  The Southbridge is a processor that, on the tx2, is on the opposite side of the motherboard from the CPU/GPU.  When assembled, it is just under the palm rest for the right hand (just to the right of the mousepad).  It says "Southbridge" on it, but you might need magnification to read it.  It has no heatsink, fan, or other heat dissipation mechanism.  You should have both the Southbridge and the GPU shot with the heat and pushed down because the problem can be either one.  You might be able to tell which one is the cause of the problem because you'll be able to see little metal beads under them if they have risen up.
But, that's not then end of the story.  This reheat and press down repair worked for only a couple of weeks before the black screen problem happened again.  My neighbor had indicated that, if it happened again, I should alter my heatsink and find a way to keep pressure on the GPU and Southbridge to keep them from rising and coming disconnected.  Therefore, this 3rd time (once repaired by HP and the second and third by my neighbor) I put a little extra work into the reinstallation of the motherboard and took my neighbor's advice.  One big problem you'll find is that the heatsink over them GPU has a piece of metal that is not copper, like the rest of the heatsink.  In addition to that, that piece of metal does not even touch the GPU and HP just put a "cooling pad" between the two.  Essentially, someone failed in the original design of the heatsink or the design of the motherboard because the GPU and CPU are not anywhere close to level with one another.  The CPU is much taller, but the heatsink is level.  To correct this, HP could have easily measured the distance and added a copper piece to the copper heatsink.  Instead, they added some inferior alloy and a piece of fabric.  Both likely conduct heat okay, but not nearly like copper and, because of the fabric pad, they don't put pressure on the GPU.  The best fix for this would be to replace the non-copper piece, but I didn't want to bend the heatsink and not have it level (it needs good contact with the GPU).  Therefore, I got a piece of flat copper from my neighbor, doubled it over, and used that in place of the fabric "cooling pad."  I, of course, put Arctic Ice between all of the pieces.  Arctic Ice is a silver compound that should always be used between pieces that are to conduct heat; it connects them.  You can't let your copper pieces touch the resistors/transistors on the top of the GPU/CPU/Southbridge, or your short them out, so be careful.
For the Southbridge, since there is no heat conductor on it, but there is a metal heat shield on the underside of the wrist-rest, you can get some copper or take an old penny (you need a pre-1980s one for it to be copper) and bend it in half and in half again, so it is the general shape of a piece of pie.  This could also be done for the copper needed for between the GPU and heatsink.  After each fold, hammer it very well.  This can be done with a minimal amount of tools: two pairs of pliers and a hammer.  Grab the penny from opposite ends with the two pairs of pliers (with a little space between the noses of the pliers) and bend it as far as you can before the pliers touch.  Then, keep the penny in one pair of pliers and beat the penny with the pliers as far as you can like that.  Then, grab the folded penny with the pliers and squeeze it until the fold is flat.  Then beat the penny until it is completely flat.  Then do the whole process over again to make the penny 4 pennies thick.  However, make sure to beat the penny enough between folds to where it is really just about 3 pennies thick.  That way, it should be just thick enough to touch both the wrist-wrest and the Southbridge.  Put the Arctic Ice between the Southbridge and the folded penny and maybe between the metal on the wrist-wrest and the penny.
I have done most of the above.  I can't say that I've done the penny trick and you'll note that I wrote it as a hypothetical instruction, as I would never deface money.  What I have done above has worked so far and the GPU and Southbridge are cooler and hopefully there is pressure on them so that they will not rise off the board and cause the problem again.  Because the GPU is cooler, the CPU is also cooler.
I wrote this post on my repaired tx2!
As evidence that this works, search ebay and the internet generally for this motherboard (HP 504466-001) and see what you find.  You'll find a lot of suppliers that want you to send them your old motherboard when they send you a REFURBISHED ONE.  You'll also not that you can pay different prices for different lenghts of warrantly.  It seems that these companies likely only use the heat method explained above (one even has a photo of their heat device) and they just constantly resell the same motherboards.  It is a great idea because it is such little work to get it back in working order.  Remember, though, if you buy one of these to somehow put some solid pressure on the GPU and Southbridge or you'll just be buying a new board again.
Another thought to fix this problem is to drill more holes for the intake and exhaust for the fan to pull air through.  I tried this, but my drill bit didn't go through the bottom of the PC and I found that our tx2 bases are made out of metal!  I never knew that.  I did, however, remove some of the plastic from the underside of the keyboard, at the top-right of the keyboard, to get a little more air flow.  One day, I might drill or dremel some more holes in the based between the current air inlets and the back of the PC.

Doesn't it use an external AC Adapter? If so, all you should need to use in another country is an adpater plug to match the wall socket.

  • IS IT EVEN POSSIBLE TO UPGRADE TOUCHSMART TX2 1274nr TO WINDOWS 7??? Many issues!

Please...any expert have advice on upgrading the Touchsmart TX2-1274nr model from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium using the HP upgrade kit?
I have had several HP help chats since I bought this touchsmart model, and I've only had it for a little over a week and a half.  And, it seems the HPOP chat does not allow me to type my sentences out fully...always cuts me off and chops up my sentences.  Plus, it seems the agents that "help me" never seem to understand ANYTHING I am asking.  This is quite frustrating, irritating and perplexing.
I tried for the first time to upgrade yesterday, and I did not understand the compatibility report.  First, it says to update the "KEYBOARD FILTER" prior to upgrade.  I searched the computer and nothing comed up, so I have no idea WHAT EXACTLY this is so I can update the driver.  Secondly, it recommends uninstalling 11 programs...6 of which are games (which is fine).  However, it recommends uninstalling the ATI INSTALLER MANAGER and ATI CONTROL CENTER.  This is another VERY CONFUSING and VAGUE recommendation.  This is because only the ATI INSTALLER MANAGER is listed in Programs & Features list.  When you try to uninstall, it becomes confusing as to does one remove ALL ATI COMPONENTS...and, if not, how do you removed just the CCC and the INSTALLER MANAGER.  I managed to get the CCC uninstalled, by performing and "custom" uninstal of the ATI INSTALLER MANAGER in the Prgrams & Features list, but the INSTALLER MANAGER still remains on the computer.
These problems proved for me confusing.  So, I go yet again to HP Help chat and the "tech" was NOT HELPFUL.  A little sarcastic & vague and just kept saying follow the onscreen instructions.  The instructions have me confused, which is why I was asking so WINDOWS 7 INSTALLED CORRECTLY.
So, I went to another forum and asked for help.  I was advised that the Keyboard Filter most likely meant it was referencting the N-Trig DuoSense Digitizer, and I was provided the link to the manufacturer's site to download the Windows 7 compatible drivers.  HOWEVER, I could not find out why the compatibility report kept telling me to update the "Keyboard Filter" prior to upgrading.
So, I ended up removing all on the compatibility report suggested removals prior to upgrading EXCEPT the KEYBOARD FILTER DRIVER UPDATE & the ATI INSTALLER MANAGER.
I performed the full UPGRADE anyway.
Sure enough, when all was said and done, after the "UPGRADE" it seemed my system was running noticably SLOWER THAN when it had Vista.  Secondly, I LOST MY TOUCHSCREEN ability.  So, I went back to the link the 3rd party forum person recommended for the N-Trip DuoSense Digitizer Windows 7 drivers...and the touchscreen function returned.  However, I KEPT LOSING MY INTERNET CONNECTION.  Well, my wifi apeared to show a full wireless connection to our home network, but I would open up internet explorer and it would load my home page.  I was able to maybe retain my internet explorer connection for a miunute or 2, and then no matter what website I enetered or link  I clicked...NOTHING.  It would just keep indicating it was loading but minutes would pass and nothing would happen.  Plus, the windows system in general seem to be running slower.
So, I am highly irritated & upset over this.  And all my searching and researching on HP site and others seem to not giver SPECIFIC AND CLEAR ANSWERS to any of these issues.  WHY?????  Am I the only one to have ALL THESE ISSUES? This morning, I ended up performing a F11 Windows recovery back to Vista Home Premium.  What should I do?
Please, if anyone has had similar problems, sound off.  Moreover...PLEASE if you have updated your Touchsmart TX2-1274nr SUCCESSFULLY....PLEASE...PLEASE...ADVISE me as to how I may accomplish the same!
I thank any advice/suggestions any of you may have in advance.  Kindly, Jimmyb30ohio

I have the TX2 1012NR and its can upgrade just fine!  Here is a few recommendations "only if u have the HP Upgrade program disks"
If you have them you can install a clean copy and delete everything... Do not use the use me first disk included because it prompts you to install an older BIOS....  Just use the windows 7 upgrade disk and start the process.  The clean install clears your entire drive but does not void your warranty!   When you use the use me first disk after the install it actually loads everything else needed to get you up in running.  The touchscreen driver and the HP Mediasmart programs will have to be downloaded from the HP support site.  Once again its recommended that if there were any programs installed delete them do not try to update them!  This causes issues and countless errors.  Specifically with touchscreen drivers etc uninstall them before installing the ones from HP support.  I found this was not the easy way to do it but the best way...  I also recommend that when doing any sort of BIOS update that you remove your Battery and leave it connected to a power cord only!  Last but not least if you really mess up and its under warranty... Send it to HP they will set it back up to factory defaults under Windows Vista with the more up to date BIOS installed.  I hope my information helps! Sure you might loose some programs but in the end your computer runs faster and smoother because all the programs installed are made for Windows 7....  Also they did release the Touch Pack for download from the Microsoft website here is a link telling more about the features and benefits and how to get it as it is a totally free download...

  • Error installing N-Trig MultiTouch software for HP TouchSmart tx2 1270us with OS Windows 7

Hello. I would like to ask somebody to help me installing the Multitouch technology on my TouchSmart tx2 1270us Notebook PC. The original system came with OS Windows Vista. I bought an Upgrade for Vista from Microsoft and installed Windows 7. The problem is, that I can not use my Notebook as a Tablet( normally its working), because during the instalation of the file, downloaded from drivers&support page, comes an FATAL ERROR DURING INSTALATION, which says, that N-Trig HARDWARE was not found on my OS. The Multitouch technology does not work with WINDOWS VISTA. All I did before, was Windows reinstalation due to extremely slowed down system running, caused by too many installed programs and aplications. Exactly that reinstalation caused the whole problem. Now Im very sad about that and can not write on the display with a finger. Can anyone please help ME? If you want I can pay something. PLEASE HELP... Thanks.

    Hello DimtrijShal:
Sorry to hear about Windows 7 failer. Are you able to do a full recovery using your orginal recovery disk? If so please back up all the files you have before doing it. Write down the Windows 7 product code also. We will need it ounce you have vista windows reinstalled. You can find it in the package it came in or in the control panel displaying computers information. This number is also none as product key.
Now that your computer has been restored to original factory condition. You are now able to update Vista Windows to Windows 7 but this time you are going to use Windows Up Advisory open it up should be listed. This time just type in Windows 7 Product Code number and let it do its thing.
You can also goto your computers update web-page and see what's all involved in Up grading to Windows 7 they may have HP's Touchsmart software upgrades listed for downloads. Most Touchsmart software is listed. I have not yet seen any that did not display them. Yes you are in the correct section for your post. Some one need to realise HP Touchsmart tx2 are Touch computers also. So do not move your post from here. Let us know if you are still having troubles with your upgrade. Thank you frrw

  • Touchsmart TX2 cannot install software from HP??!!

I just bought this Touchsmart TX2 notebook (1250ED), but whenever I try to download  Touchsmart software or updates from HP,the installation process just stops and disappears!!!!!!!!! the installation has to be retried with recommended settings, which then also fails........
This has happened with all sorts of Mediasmart software. Also with Paint IT! touch by Corel. ( all downloads clearly state that my OS & computer are compatible at the requirement section)
If my touchscreen computer  ( and there aren't that many on the market) is not suitable for touchscreen-technology software then what's the use !!!!!!!!! I might as well sell it!
Can anyone tell me what the h... is going on with this?!!!!
I've installed the original software and upgraded to Windows 7 (32-bit). There is nothing wrong with the computer, it runs fine and passes all scans.

first download the programs on your computer then install them...
then tell us the results.. what happens...

    Hi,
If your PC is under one year old then it should be covered by warrany.  This model might be covered by a two year warranty so Contact HP Support.
HP's support number is 800-474-6836 or 800-HPINVENT or online here.
If you purchased your PC with a credit as most do and it's over one year old, then contact your credit card company and ask about extended electronic device protection (extended warranty).
