I am getting the strangest error. I was wondering if anyone has seen this.
Environment: Source server is NW 65 SP8 with eDirectory 8.8.4. Target server is Sles 10SP3 OES2 PS2 eDir 8.8.5. Installation of OES was done during the install of SLES not as an add on afterwards.
Problems: Migration of files went smoothly. iPrint migration failed with an error about not being able to find the ACL obect. DIB Copy fails with error saying the source server default language could not be determined.
I installed the source server myself a few months back and the default language is English. Anyone have any ideas? Please help!

eDirectoty Migration tool uses SYS:SYSTEM/CONFIG.TXT to determine the
source server language and code page. can you check the
SYS:SYSTEM/CONFIG.TXT for the line "DOS code page".
You can delete the SYS:SYSTEM/CONFIG.TXT from the NW server and run the
command "load config" from the NW server.
you can re-try the DIB backup step after that.

  • Yet another transfer/sync question...

    I've authorized my new laptop.
I know how to transfer "purchased" songs to it.
I CAN NOT access original hard drive which also holds songs burned from CD (but most of my library is on the iPod as well).
Q: Will connecting iPod to the new laptop, sync its song list (including the non-purchased songs) TO the new lap?
    Thanks

    NO.
To copy songs from an iPod to a computer, you need 3rd party software. Search this forum for a very informative post by Zevoneer on the topic.

  • When transfering tracks across to ipod a sliding panel appears on the right hand side of itunes. after acknowleadging the transfer the panel does not slide back out of the way to alow another transfer.

When transfering tracks to an ipod a sliding panel appears on the right hand side of itunes. This allows the selected track to be transfered. After registering this action the panel does not slide back out of the way to allow scrolling and more song selection. Any solutions..Help?

I have an even simpler method. I use MyPublisher to print my books. I select their page layout for a two-page spread, drag and drop the image. DONE!  I understand that most people have their favorite places to have work done. I have been extremely pleased with MyPublisher.com, so I haven't even tried the book module in Lightroom.

  • How to transfer hosting to business catalyst

    Hi
I recently transferred a website's hosting with another provider to BC and there was a 'how to' tuition guide in the BC tutorial section.
I need to do another transfer for another site but can't find the same tutorial anywhere!!
I've searched on Google and nothing comes up which is very strange.
There is a tutorial for domain name transfers but nothing for hosting transfers.
Can anyone help with this please?

  • Transfer function + controller + Bode plot and root locus

    Hi
I am trying to plot Bode plot and root locus for trasfer function
    TF = 1/(s^4 + 2s^2)
Then I want to implement Ideal compensators (PI , PD or PID) or lag/lead compensator to get the required stability
I am trying to do this Labview 8.o in control design and simulation loop. (V2.0)
I have done some simulation but I am not understanding as to how implement controller on this.
    I need little help.
I am attaching my VI. but you will find rootlocus not there and feed back loop control to implement controllers not there
    Thankyou

I have one typical controlers question where I am using feedback control
alongwith compensators. My transfer function is like fourth order
    TF = 1/S^2(S^2+2)
but  rootlocus and transfer function in labview  do not let me write equation more than 3rd order.
How can I write this 4th order equation.
Next I want to make one feedback control on this transfer function and then want to plot bode and rootlocus.
I have made one vi of fourth order by placing transfer function in series and then for feedback gain I have placed another transfer function with feedback. I have also attached rootlocus vi but it does not show me rootlocus since rootlocus Vi can not take more than fourth order transfer function.
I want to plot my step response, bode, and root locus for step input
I have also tried to  make another VI with tansfer function VI which has feed back terminal in it, but I donot know how to get bode and rootlocus out of that.
I am attaching my both VIs for you.
    see my two Vis please.

  • Transfer files from old computer, use old hard drive?

I've just purchased new HP Pavilion p6-2120 Desktop.  I need to transfer files, programs, etc from my 6 year old Dell desktop.  I realize I can use Windows 7 transfer program with flash drive, transfer cable or external hard drive to move the files.
As another transfer method, can I take the old hard drive from the Dell desktop & install it in the new HP Pavilion?  Is the old hard drive (80GB serialATA, 7200rpm, DIM2,XPS2) compatible with the new HP where it will even work?
Since I'm not transfering that much is it best to just purchase a  Windows 7 transfer cable?
    This question was solved.

    mikesimms,
Your theory is correct. If you want all the settings, email, documents, photo's, music, and other data files, use either the Windows Easy Transfer program. It will accept an external device or use the transfer cable.
If you want only the documents, photo's, music, and other data files then you could add the XP drive to the system (temporarily use the p6-2120's DVD drive cabling). You can copy files to the new folders.

  • Transfer limit

I am writing regarding license transfers. Some time ago I purchased Adobe master collection cs3 second hand, and the license was transfered to me. I later sold this. A couple of years ago, I again purchased master collection cs3 but I'm now considering selling it. I understand there is a limit to 4 license transfers. I would like to know if that is four transfers to me, from me or in total. If I transfer this to another user, will I then be able to do another transfer or will I have reached my limit?

Thanks Mylenium, and apologies for how formal my original message was - I was trying to message Adobe support from my phone browser but couldn't get to an email form - ended up writing that about three times on the chat window but as it didn't work, I ended up pasting it into the forum.
Sadly I've pretty much given up now and put Master Collection on eBay. I love the Adobe software but I'm only a hobbyist. Since Adobe went subscription only, my choice of second hand upgrades (perpetual licenses) are non-existant and, as a home user, even with a discount I can't justify creative cloud membership if I don't get to keep the software at the end.
I'm going to hope that you're right and I'll be able to do another transfer in if a second hand Premiere/Production/Master CS5-CS6 shows up. If not I guess my Adobe days are up.
Anyway, all the best and thanks for the advice.
    Regards,
    Stuart.

  • Fresh install, transfer information seems endless at 3 min. support apps.

    Greetings Apple Discussions:
I did a fresh install of Leopard on a 250 GB HD. The working system on my primary 250 GB HD is Tiger. I prepped by verifying and then repairing permissions on Tiger before the install. During the install I opted to "transfer information", setting, files, etc., from Tiger to Leopard. The transfer went through all the stages in about a hour. Then it got to the point of "transferring files to support applications" about 3 minutes remaining. It has been here for maybe five to six hours. I am assuming this is my huge library of Soundtrack Pro and GarageBand loops. I think I have about 19,000 loops totalling maybe 14 to 19 Gigabits. I can't be sure about the size in Gigabits. Is this the point in transferring that the loops are transferred?
If it remains at this supposed stall, could I power down, reinstall Leopard, after another transfer, then manually transfer the loops and index them in GarageBand, which seem to be quicker than this process?
    Aubrey

If you can stand it, you may want to let it run overnight If it's transferring that huge amount, then technically it may not be a stall at all. I'd let it run overnight personally. Powering down in the middle of an install is only asking for trouble......

  • Had to get new hard drive and need to reinstall iTunes

My very new PC went beserk and I had to get a new hard drive. Everything off the old drive is irretrievable. I have my iTunes library backed up to an external drive (everything is also on my iPod). However, I don't want to have to "count" the new computer as one of the five machines on which I can copy my iTunes library, since it's not technically a "new" computer but just a replacement of my not-so-old one, which was barely 9 months old before it went kaput. Is there a way to reinstall iTunes and my library without getting dinged for yet another transfer of the library? Thanks.

Hi I can't figure out how to post a question of my own, so I'm asking it on this one because it is close to mine.
I just switched from a Sony Viao to a MBP, and tried to transfer my ITunes library from the Sony to my new MBP using a USB stick. I put all the music in my music library onto the stick, it said that it used 4.99 GB, and when I tried to put the music onto my MBP it only added 1.98 GB.
I thought that maybe the music it wasn't transferring was the music I purchased on my earlier laptop, but it transfered a few of my movies that I purchased off of ITunes. Please Help?

  • Excessive Wait Times and No Resolution

I am posting this out of sheer frustration. We had a minor issue (as yet unresolved) that should have been fixed quickly. Even though it shows we are connected to our WiFi we can't get internet. The first time it happened we called and they did something on their end and it was fixed in a matter of minutes. The second time it happened they sent a tech over who told us it had to do with hardware in the building (We are in an apartment) and didn't even have to access our apartment to fix it. The third time it happened the light finally came on -why hasn't this been truly fixed and how many more times is this going to happen? So called Thursday night and they tell us they can't be out til Monday. But call back tomorrow and maybe they can bump that time up.
So my husband calls bright and early at 0830 and has to navigate the phone tree for 5 minutes before waiting another 10, 20 (?) minutes before getting a live person who is of no help so transfers my husband to a supervisor. Another wait. And my husband is getting mad, and asks for a credit on our account. Another transfer, then gets disconnected. So what should have been a quick phone call has just escalated to "what do I do? This is terrible service. Should we cancel Verizon outright and switch to another company?" Calls back, phone tree, on hold ... 30+ minutes, then gets an automated voice menu that doesn't recognize the prompts and disconnects the call. By this time it's after 1030. Wasted 2 hours for NOTHING. Meanwhile I'm trying to log on thru the mobile app. Log in and the first message I get is to call Verizon customer service. So I try the live chat and the page won't even load. In desperation I go to the "I want to order" page and lo and behold I get a live person. I admit I made some catty remarks (Basically you'll answer when I want to buy something but not when I need help. - only not quite so polite, sorry to that person I know she's just doing her job) That person was nice enough to transfer me to someone so I could explain the situation better, and she says I will get you to the right department, and so I explain the situation one more time to get the response of "you were transferred here by mistake" so while I'm waiting yet again for help I went on a little tirade raising the points:
    1. I am paying for a service I'm not receiving. Not only that I'm paying for the extra data we used not realizing the WiFi wasn't truly connected
    2. This isn't the first or even 2nd time this has happened? How many more times does it need to happen before it's truly fixed?
    3. It's really a minor problem but because of the bad customer service it turns into an ordeal.
    4. The phone tree is ridiculous. Doesn't matter which option you choose you still wait on hold for an unacceptable amount of time. 5 minutes is too long let alone 10 or 20.
    5. Hold times. See #4.
    6. When you finally get a live person they have no autonomy, are obviously following a script so if you mention anything they can't find in their answer book they have to transfer you somewhere else instead of being able to use common sense and make their own decisions. So you wait yet again on hold.
    7. Then out of the blue the call is dropped? Really? Isn't that Verizon's area of expertise?
    8. Online isn't any faster. The first response I got was to call customer service. Then the chat screen wouldn't even load.
    9. When I contacted Verizon as if I were a potential new customer guess what? I got a live person right away. In fact, even though it wasn't their jobs, 2 of them actually either tried or did a great job of pretending to try to help. But when it got down to the actual issue, they stopped responding. So 10 minutes after the final response I left a message to call either me or my husband and left 2 numbers. Still no call.
I posted a comment on facebook and almost immediately got multiple responses echoing the same thing - Verizon's customer service is terrible. My sister in law stated her record was 3 hours. We have been Verizon customers since 1998 (back when it was Cellular2000) and loved it. Never outages and only came across 1 dead spot. When everyone would say "such and such is cheaper" we'd always say we're sticking with Verizon. But in the last couple of years the service has declined and it really isn't that much better than the other options.

Your issue has been escalated to a Verizon agent. Before the agent can begin assisting you, they will need to collect further information from you.

We are using Handling Unit Mangement and Warehouse Management . Each Piece has a HU Number and we created an outbound delivery with 5 items. 5 Transfer orders are created  and  4 transfer orders are confirmed for 4 items and we had only one unit of stock for the other item and we found that the item is damaged and cannot be shipped, so I need to cancel the Transfer orders created for other items so that i can remove the delivery off the shipment. we do not ship partial. so we will ship the delivery in the next load,
The Transfer orders are created with movement type 601 & When i tried to unconfim the confirmed transfer orders using
    1) LT0G with movement type 602 I got an error message : "Delivery 80001495: Function not yet supported for TOs for HUs"
2 ) I tried to create another Transfer order through LT01/LT10 using movement type 602  so that i can bring the stock from 916/001/0080001495 to some other storage type and some other bin, but i got an error message stating that "Enter Requiremetn Number and type"
Can any one of you suggest how to canel the confirmed Handling untis for an OBD.

  • Single-statement 'write consistency' on read committed?

Please note that in the following I'm only concerned about single-statement read committed transactions. I do realize that for a multi-statement read committed transaction Oracle does not guarantee transaction set consistency without techniques like select for update or explicit hand-coded locking.
According to the documentation Oracle guarantees 'statement-level transaction set consistency' for queries in read committed transactions. In many cases, Oracle also provides single-statement write consistency. However, when an update based on a consistent read tries to overwrite changes committed by other transactions after the statement started, it creates a write conflict. Oracle never reports write conflicts on read committed. Instead, it automatically handles them based on the new values for the target table columns referenced by the update.
Let's consider a simple example. Again, I do realize that the following design might look strange or even sloppy, but the ability to produce a quality design when needed is not an issue here. I'm simply trying to understand the Oracle's behavior on write conflicts in a single-statement read committed transaction.
A valid business case behind the example is rather common - a financial institution with two-stage funds transfer processing. First, you submit a transfer (put transfer amounts in the 'pending' column of the account) in case the whole financial transaction is in doubt. Second, after you got all the necessary confirmations you clear all the pending transfers making the corresponding account balance changes, resetting pending amount and marking the accounts cleared by setting the cleared date. Neither stage should leave the data in inconsistent state: sum (amount) for all rows should not change and the sum (pending) for all rows should always be 0 on either stage:
    Setup:
    create table accounts
    acc int primary key,
    amount int,
    pending int,
    cleared date
Initially the table contains the following:
    ACC AMOUNT PENDING CLEARED
    1 10 -2
    2 0 2
    3 0 0 26-NOV-03
So, there is a committed database state with a pending funds transfer of 2 dollars from acc 1 to acc 2. Let's submit another transfer of 1 dollar from acc 1 to acc 3 but do not commit it yet in SQL*Plus Session 1:
    update accounts
    set pending = pending - 1, cleared = null where acc = 1;
    update accounts
    set pending = pending + 1, cleared = null where acc = 3;
    ACC AMOUNT PENDING CLEARED
    1 10 -3
    2 0 2
    3 0 1
And now let's clear all the pending transfers in SQL*Plus Session 2 in a single-statement read-committed transaction:
    update accounts
    set amount = amount + pending, pending = 0, cleared = sysdate
    where cleared is null;
Session 2 naturally blocks. Now commit the transaction in session 1. Session 2 readily unblocks:
    ACC AMOUNT PENDING CLEARED
    1 7 0 26-NOV-03
    2 2 0 26-NOV-03
    3 0 1
Here we go - the results produced by a single-statement transaction read committed transaction in session 2, are inconsistent the second funds transfer has not completed in full. Session 2 should have produced the following instead:
    ACC AMOUNT PENDING CLEARED
    1 7 0 26-NOV-03
    2 2 0 26-NOV-03
    3 1 0 26-NOV-03
Please note that we would have gotten the correct results if we ran the transactions in session 1 and session 2 serially. Please also note that no update has been lost. The type of isolation anomaly observed is usually referred to as a 'read skew', which is a variation of 'fuzzy read' a.k.a. 'non-repeatable read'.
But if in the session 2 instead of:
    -- scenario 1
    update accounts
    set amount = amount + pending, pending = 0, cleared = sysdate
    where cleared is null;
    we issued:
    -- scenario 2
    update accounts
    set amount = amount + pending, pending = 0, cleared = sysdate
    where cleared is null and pending <> 0;
    or even:
    -- scenario 3
    update accounts
    set amount = amount + pending, pending = 0, cleared = sysdate
    where cleared is null and (pending * 0) = 0;
We'd have gotten what we really wanted.
I'm very well aware of the 'select for update' or serializable il solution for the problem. Also, I could present a working example for precisely the above scenario for a major database product, providing the results that I would consider to be correct. That is, the interleaving execution of the transactions has the same effect as if they completed serially. Naturally, no extra hand-coded locking techniques like select for update or explicit locking is involved.
And now let's try to understand what just has happened. Playing around with similar trivial scenarios one could easily figure out that Oracle clearly employs different strategies when handling update conflicts based on the new values for the target table columns, referenced by the update. I have observed the following cases:
    A. The column values have not changed: Oracle simply resumes using the current version of the row. It's perfectly fine because the database view presented to the statement (and hence the final state of the database after the update) is no different from what would have been presented if there had been no conflict at all.
    B. The row (including the columns being updated) has changed, but the predicate columns haven't (see scenario 1): Oracle resumes using the current version of the row. Formally, this is acceptable too as the ANSI read committed by definition is prone to certain anomalies anyway (including the instance of a 'read skew' we've just observed) and leaving behind somewhat inconsistent data can be tolerated as long as the isolation level permits it. But please note - this is not a 'single-statement write consistent' behavior.
    C. Predicate columns have changed (see scenario 2 or 3): Oracle rolls back and then restarts the statement making it look as if it did present a consistent view of the database to the update statement indeed. However, what seems confusing is that sometimes Oracle restarts when it isn't necessary, e.g. when new values for predicate columns don't change the predicate itself (scenario 3). In fact, it's bit more complicated I also observed restarts on some index column changes, triggers and constraints change things a bit too but for the sake of simplicity let's no go there yet.
And here come the questions, assuming that (B) is not a bug, but the expected behavior:
    1. Does anybody know why it's never been documented in detail when exactly Oracle restarts automatically on write conflicts once there are cases when it should restart but it won't? Many developers would hesitate to depend on the feature as long as it's not 'official'. Hence, the lack of the information makes it virtually useless for critical database applications and a careful app developer would be forced to use either serializable isolation level or hand-coded locking for a single-statement update transaction.
If, on the other hand, it's been documented, could anybody please point me to the bit in the documentation that:
    a) Clearly states that Oracle might restart an update statement in a read committed transaction because otherwise it would produce inconsistent results.
    b) Unambiguously explains the circumstances when Oracle does restart.
    c) Gives clear and unambiguous guidelines on when Oracle doesn't restart and therefore when to use techniques like select for update or the serializable isolation level in a single-statement read committed transaction.
    2. Does anybody have a clue what was the motivation for this peculiar design choice of restarting for a certain subset of write conflicts only? What was so special about them? Since (B) is acceptable for read committed, then why Oracle bothers with automatic restarts in (C) at all?
    3. If, on the other hand, Oracle envisions the statement-level write consistency as an important advantage over other mainstream DBMSs as it clear from the handling of (C), does anybody have any idea why Oracle wouldn't fix (B) using well-known techniques and always produce consistent results?

I intrigued that this posting has attracted so little interest. The behaviour described is not intuitive and seems to be undocumented in Oracle's manuals.
Does the lack of response indicate:
    (1) Nobody thinks this is important
    (2) Everybody (except me) already knew this
    (3) Nobody understands the posting
For the record, I think it is interesting. Having spent some time investigating this, I believe the described is correct, consistent and understandable. But I would be happier if Oracle documented in the Transaction sections of the Manual.
    Cheers, APC

  • New-ish Macbook booting/running extremely slow after 10.6.3?

    Hi all,
I bought a refurbished Macbook in March 2010. A few days ago I installed the big updates along with 10.6.3 and everything was fine. I was then trying to play an .avi with VLC media player with some other programs open (Firefox, iTunes I think). VLC started not responding along with the other programs and I got the spinning wheel for a little while. Eventually I forced quit everything and restarted. Upon this restart (and, incidentally, this would have been the first restart after the initial install/restart of the above updates) my Macbook was running really slowly. Extremely long boot up times (like 10-15 minutes), constant spinning wheel in OS X (takes about 1-2 minutes to load the system drop-down menu, longer for apps like disk utility). Everything runs fine, just massive load times and spinning wheels when doing anything.
I hadn't installed any new programs, widgets or any other stuff aside from the update last week.
The laptop's memory usage seems pretty normal (about 1.2/2.0gb free RAM, no page-outs) and nothing seems to be bogging down the CPU. All my processes are Intel. I have about 40gb free on my 120gb hard drive. Checked my Font Book and I have no duplicates.
I tried resetting PRAM (no change) and I verified/repaired the disk with DU (no trouble found).
I ran the Apple Hardware Test and everything came up without problems.
I ran repair permissions from the OS X CD and it repaired a whole bunch of Airport stuff and I got a ton of "Open Error 1" for keyedobjects, etc but the latter is normal?
What should I do next to resolve this? Is it an Airport issue given the repaired permissions? I'm guessing it's likely software/update related, since all my hardware SEEMS fine... Any help would be very much appreciated. Please let me know if you need more info.

    Hi again.
So after my above fiasco I decided to completely reformat (zero-out-data) my drive and do a clean install. After doing this, I began reinstalling all my previous software, and everything was back to normal, very fast, smooth, etc.
Today I decided I'd grab all my music and other files over from my PC's external hard drive to put it on my Macbook. I copied all my separate, misc. files like photos and .psd files and text documents first (about 5gb), and then copied my music folder next (70gb or so). After copying exactly 48gb, the computer froze and I got a spinning wheel. I couldn't click the X to stop the transfer and I let it sit for a good 30 minutes spinning away before trying force quit, and Ctrl - Option - Command - Eject to restart. Nothing worked. Eventually I just gave up and held down the power button.
Macbook restarted fine but then trying to resume the transfer of the rest of my music files kept giving me errors. The first time it copied an album or two and then hung up, this time allowing me to hit the X on the transfer. I tried one more time but it hung up after the first file, and more spinning wheel. Again, the computer was completely unresponsive with the spinning wheel, so I was forced to power button.
Now I get a similar experience to the first time (OP comments), but the start up is much faster. Still spinning wheels, but not as frequent. More importantly, I can't move any data currently on my macbook back off of it, using FAT32 USB sticks or anything. I tried once but I got another transfer hang-up so I don't want to try again. I can hear the hard drive "slip" or whatever, when I try, and then it just churns and spins around trying to find itself. I get similar sounds on start up, but eventually it seems to kick in and be fine.
(For the record, I had this same inability to write data from my macbook the first time this happened.)
Is this just because I had to force shut down the computer? Again, the computer was running fine until the freeze-up + force shut down.
Is it possible that the files I'm copying over were the cause? I had copied the same files over from the same NTFS hard drive right when I got the computer back in March, and they were working fine on the Macbook up until the first issues started a few weeks ago.
It seems to me like a hard drive issue, but Repair and Verify still comes up clean.
    Thanks in advance!

  • IPhoto pictures appear grainy

I am new to this forum and am in no way an expert on computers or photography- so excuse any stupidity in my questions.
All photos that I have uploaded to iPhoto appear grainy, blurry and appear to have problems with highlights and just appear very bad. Not just the thumbnail versions, even when viewed at maximum size. The pictures look the same when viewed with Preview too. I use a MacBook Pro, Mac OSX 10.5. iPhoto version is the '08 version. Wondering if updating it to the '11 edition will help?
This first happened when I transfered all pictures to an external hard drive and emptied out my iPhoto library. Now, any new imports seem to look grainy at all resolutions. The pictures all appear fine if uploaded onto a PC [rather than my MacBkPro] from my camera which is a 12MP point and shoot Canon. The problem is I have deleted the originals from my camera's SD card, so I need to find a way to get these pictures on my Mac back to looking good. I cannot just do another transfer from the camera SD card to my PC- wish it were that simple!
I'd appreciate any input! Thank you in advance.

How did you transfer the photos to the EHD?
What are the pixel dimensions of one of the "grainy" photos?
    Do you have a backup?
