Another WiFi issue

I've been having issues for months with my Arris TG-862G  (although the modem itself says its just an 862, based on pictures its the 862G).   The hard-wired connection to my desktop computer works great, however the Wi-Fi signal sucks. I've been through 3 or 4 of these and I was just told by phone support I need that the wireless antena on the modem is bad and I need to take it to a Comcast Service Center to be exchanged. It's ridiculous that for Comcast Voice the modem they make you use is a horrible WiFi router.     Before I switched over to Comcast Voice, I was using my own router on the second floor and could get a WiFi signal in the basement of my home. Since being forced to switch over to the Arris TG-862G, I'm lucky if I get a strong signal on the first floor and need a miracle to get a WiFi signal in the basement.     Short of buying my own router to boost the signal, is there a better Telphony WiFi router I can go with?

  • Hmmm another wifi issue...

    Rite...
I wanted to help out my dad setting up his WIFI router with a security password so no unwanted people would use his connection...
I used his MacBook Pro to do this through a LAN cable like Belkin (router brand) recomented- and it worked- I tried it out with my Ipad Iphone and windows pc- they all found the WIFI connection and was asked to type in password when wanting to log on the connection... mission was a success so far!
Then I tried to log onto the router via WIFI from his MacBook Pro.. the computer I used to set it all up with- and rite up came a box saying "connection timeout"!
My question now is... what have I done wrong? why does it keep doing that when every other device logs on without any problems!! it worked before the password was set up, I wanna add- and it sees all the naighbours connections and logs on just fine to theirs- its only mine it dont want to go on... i find it very weird!!!!
    Please can anyone help me???

My dads WIFI works too just not with the one router its supposed to!! its a 2010 MacBook pro with Lion! and @shootist 007 I already tried that...
I tried my own macbook and it also works - mines bout same age and specs...
I think its because we used his computer to set up the router and then some setting has changed on his computer ... make any sence?

  • Another iPhone 5 wifi issue I guess.

I've seen the issue many are having not being able to connect to wifi, or connect and still getting no usage out if it. My issue is a little different. I can connect, but the range of my wifi is noticeably shorter for some reason. I'm getting less bars in the same locations of my house, and just dropping wifi in these locations where I never had any issue before. Also my iPhone 5 is significantly slower on on my wifi, versus my iPhone 4 on the same wifi. I'll include a video I put on YouTube to show how much. Downloading the same app, in the same place, on the same wifi... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfmoHrzjCWU .... This is just 1 test. I did about 10 in total,  6 YouTube video races, and 4 app download races. My iPhone 4 won them all, most by a lanslide like in the video.
I've commented on the other wifi issue post. But I didn't really see anybody else reporting this kind of issue. I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this or maybe you have a 4s or 4 and you can check yourself and let me know. Thanks :)

I think this is interesting because even if all the people who are having connection issues, do finally get connected to wifi. Are they then gonna have this issue? Maybe not even notice it, atleast for a little bit. Then it becomes super annoying!!

  • I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

I'm using a mid 2014 13" rmbp. I reinstall the Yosemite due to the wifi issue, when finished, the iMovie was not installed, I try to download it from app store, but it's not free. How can I get iMovie back?

It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.

  • WiFi issue after 6.1.2 upgrade

I upgraded my OS to 6.1.2 and now I'm having troubles connecting to the internet at work.  I did reset my network settings and inputted the appropriate password and still having issues.  It identifies the network but when open safari or an app requiring internet connection it goes nowhere.  Is anyone else having this issue.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem.  Keep in mind my connection works fine at home.

  • Still: Macbook Air 2013 Wifi Issues On Wake-Up (And Partial Solution)

I just got my new MBA 13" Mid 2013 last week (updated to Mavericks), and have been having issues with the wifi for a couple days now. Specifically, when I wake my MBA in the morning, it will have disconnected from my home wifi and will not reconnect again. It can see the wifi (and it did ask the WPA2 password after I deleted the network in preferences), but it will not connect due to a "Connection timeout".
I didn't have these issues with my old MBP 13' Early 2011 (also running Mavericks). Also, this only started after I had fully set up my MBA and replaced my MBP, that is, connected it to the external display, hard drive, etc.
Now, it turns out what I have to do is disconnect my external hard drive and reconnect to the network. What kind of architecture makes something like this even possible? And it's not just me, https://discussions.apple.com/message/23423481#23423481 had the same problem: needing to remove a USB device in order to be able to reconnect to his wifi.
This reminds me that with my old MBP, I had an issue where copying large data volumes to external drives via USB would render the wifi connection unusable. So apparently there is something about Macbook architecture that links USB and wifi.
But why does this only occur after a full night of the MBA sleeping? I guess it would have to drop the wifi for energy saving, which it doesn't do right away whenever it goes to sleep?
In any way, this is extremely frustrating. What is the deal with USB and wifi in Macbooks? I really hope Apple can fix this via a software solution, but to be honest, I don't trust them to anymore. I guess for them this is "working as intended".
    Cheers
    Nate
PS: Please, do not post any links to "troubleshooting steps I may find helpful". I do not, because they were not.

It turns out the MBA doesn't even have to go to sleep for this to happen.
Today i received a new HDD for my time machine backups, so some data transfer was necessary. I made a 600GB backup from my Mac and an external hdd I use for media files, then i started copying another 500 Gb from one external drive to another (USB to USB).
Now in the middle of this transfer (which is rather slow to begin with at around 46 MB/s) my wifi connection just went out. My iPhone, iPad and Windows PC can still connect to my router, but the Mac tells me to "move closer" to it.
It's interesting that my Mac can no longer see any other wifis besides my own, so I guess it's wifi range is somehow impeded by these USB transfers? How does that even work?
At around 50% the data transfer had come to a complete halt, so I interrupted the process. Two seconds after I had ejected AND unplugged both external drives, the MBA could "see again". All visible wifis were listed again and I could connect without problem.
Is there anyone with a similar experience? Is this a hardware defect or an architectural problem? Why have I had these USB/wifi-issues on two Macbook models spaced lmost three years apart?

  • Mac mini wifi issues

Had my Ipad mini for about a week. At first, the internet connection over my Airport/time capsule( which I bought a couple months ago, so it should be the newest generation)  appeared to be fine  although, I noticed  that the signal bar was always a single to double bar (if that's how it is called). Now, from time to time it even fails to connect.
I am now in my living room in front of my mac mini set, which is itself connected to the internet over Airport/time capsule. The Airport is about 20 meters (abt 65 ft) away. The Wifi signal of my mac mini shows full capacity. My Ipad mini signal bar...it just says" iPad".  While  (when) connected I also have issues with iPad's ITune Wi-Fi sync. Connected by cable, checked the sync over wifi, removed the cable and Ipad disappeared from the Itune screen. I reset the Ipad, connected and did the whole procedure with Itunes and the iPad icon sticked to the itunes screen for a while but after about an hour disappeared again.
Now the ipad won't even connect.
When this thing works, it is a wonderful item. When it doesn't, it is a source of frustration. Can anyone help to solve this connection problem (resetting won't work) ?
    thank you.

  • Wifi issue w/ HP Pavilion DV6

I've owned an HP Pavilion DV6 1030us for a couple of months now.  Wifi issues didn't start showing up until a week after I purchased my laptop.  I found out that there's a problem with the motherboard and sent in my laptop to HP for a repair, but when it came back a week later, it was still in the same condition as it was when I sent it.  HP sent back a paper that confirmed that they had "repaired" my laptop, but all the problems I've had are still present.
Anyways, I'm just curious as to what I should do at this point... my warranty hasn't expired yet, so should I sent it back in for repair?  I don't want to wait another week if everything is still going to be the same... school has already started... so any suggestions?
EDIT: Sorry this is in the wrong section...

  • Brand New iPad Mini WiFi ISSUES

So I bought my iPad Mini 32gb a week ago and I've been using it eversince with my house's wifi. I recently updated it to iOS 6.1.3 and a couple of days after I started having WiFi issues. So I connect to my wifi and use it as usual, but after 5 minutes of using it the internet stops working eventhough it still shows the 3 bars of internet on the top left corner next to iPad. To fix this I have to turn off my iPad every time. I am trying to see if there is a solution or if I will have to send it to the apple repair center or change it for a new one for 40 bucks. I really need internet on it so please help. ( IT IS URGENT.)

  • Wifi issue...does anyone else have this problem?

So I just got an iPad wifi+3G this week. I know there are wifi issues with the ipad but mine is a bit unusual. I would always get signal to my wifi connection. I get signal even after i put the ipad to sleep then turn it on. Problem is, I don't always get internet. I get internet for a couple of hours and then nothing for another few hours (all the while the ipad is showing there is a good wifi signal and is connected).
Sometimes when it's not working, I would plug it in to my iMac and the internet will magically start working again...note however I say sometimes.
That's it....I'm just curious to see if anyone has the same issue I do.

Sounds like a DHCP problem. What IP address are you getting? Does it start with 169? On the iPad, connecting to the wireless network is separate from actually getting on the network. You can connect and get an invalid ("self assigned" AKA 169) IP address that is useless. This used to be pretty common with iBooks and MacBooks. Usually the fix is rebooting the router. A permanent fix is replacing the router. You can also check your router settings and make sure the firmware is up to date and you are using all default settings and nothing fancy.

  • Wifi issue post update of 8.3

i noticed that since I upgtaded to 8.3 my phone 6 very erratically disconnect or doesn't recognise Wifi.
Though my other equipments like Laptop, BB works absolutely fine. I twice restored my phone too.

I have the same issue as well since I got my new iPhone6 last week. activated iPhone6 and updated iOS to 8.3. Does anyone have solution on this? or should I go to Apple tech support?
I checked my home wifi, it's ok,because i have another iOS devices connected and no such wifi issue.

I do backup with iCloud.  I can't wait until the new iMac is available so that I can once again have my files in more than 1 location without needing to rely solely on the cloud.
I also rely on iTunes and my MacBook and Time Machine as well as backing up to iCloud. I know many users know have gone totally PC free, but I chose to use iCloud merely as my third backup.
I assume that the restore would result in my ability to open Pages and Numbers and fix the problem with deleting apps, but this would also mean that if my Numbers documents still exist solely within the app and are just not on iCloud for some reason that they would be gone forever.  Is that right?
In a word, yes. In a little more detail.... When you restore from an iCloud backup, you must erase the device and start all over again. There is no other way to access the backup in iCloud without erasing the device. Consequently, you are starting all over again. Therefore, it would also be my assumption that Pages and Numbers will work again and that the deleting apps issues would be fixed as well.
If the documents are not in the backup, and you do not have a backup elsewhere, the documents could be gone forever.

  • Mountain Lion and Lion wifi issues

Don't start on me about there being multiple threads on that subject already.  I was told by a very respected member of these forums to start my own thread on the issue.
Dropping wifi started with Lion and for the last 10 months with ML.  I've been in touch with Apple, they called me after reading my old post and had me run test for them with no help.  I've done completely clean installs on newly reformatted hard drive and using a USB drive to install ML.  It won't connect to wifi to finish install half the time so other software isn't the issue.
I've tried just about every fix posted.  A lot of them with Apple on the phone.  I've replaced my router knowing that wouldn't fix it because I take my Mac with me and it drops wifi on any router or network.
I have 2 Macs and only one has ever had this issue.
You don't have to believe I've tried everything, that I've had Apple call me or that I even have the issue.
I've been asked to post the names of the engineers that have contacted me.  Why would you need to know that in order to believe me, especially if you admit to not knowing any.
All I want to know is there a fix?  Yes/No
Remember it doesn't want to connect on a clean install.
    P.S.:
For all those looking for reason's not to help me, my dog is yawning in the picture not growling.  Yes I've gotten mad on other threads but how many times can you be called a liar just because their fixes didn't work for me or I won't post engineers names.

    Thanks for that list.
Out of all you posted I tried everything with Apple on the phone.
I'm the only one who uses this Mac and I constantly check my settings incase something was changed on it's own because of some app.  But I'll lock it after retrying everything over again.
I'll be glad to get it down to once every few days again. I haven't complaned about it in a long time because I could live with that.  That's where I was before it went back to dropping constantly. Lets face it once a day would be great.  I've had to reboot just trying to reply.
I've started taking some live on line courses so it's not just an announce to me.  It started again before I started classes.
The 10.8.3 update made it worse.  But not enough to go back to 10.8.2.
My mail program is affected the worst.  When wifi drops and Mail is running I always have to force quit.  I know that's an affect no the cause.
I do have another Genius Bar appointment for that and a couple of other issues.  The first time they denied there were any wifi issues until I gave them the names of the engineers that called me with their email addresses and phone numbers.  I've since lost their phone numbers but still have their email addresses.  I know one was a CA area code and the Main one was from TX.  I have emailed them this week but still no reply.
Like I said once it went down to dropping every few days I didn't care any more.
I'll keep you up to date.

  • Updated to 6.0.1 wifi issue

So I started a new discussion because my problem seems a little different than the others I saw. I just updated to 6.0.1 then ended up having to restore my ipad. After I restored, wifi started giving problems. I can connect to several different networks. I get full signal strength, but cannot connect to the internet. BTW I am using the same network right now on my laptop so I know it is good.

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • Any fix for wifi issues with ios8?

Just submitting another questions asking for help with IOS8 wifi issues. Nobody from Apple has commented or acknowledged any issues with wifi, so we, the users, are left to fend for ourselves.
My specific issue is that 5GHz Wireless N seems to have incredibly short range, and 2.4GHZ Wireless N cuts out after about 3 seconds of use. I have tried all of the fixes described in every post I can find. I've deleted network settings, I've completely wiped the phone and started from scratch, I've done everything possible.
Now that wifi doesn't work with IOS8 I can no longer use my iPhone 5 with AirPlay our any of my other devices in my home. The fact that Apple has refused to say anything about the problem, and the fact that they are blocking users from rolling back shows a level of arrogance that's absolutely amazing. Thankfully this is all happening before I bought an iPhone6, which I'm now seriously considering avoiding if this experience is any indication of Apple's commitment to quality.
Are there any other tricks out there to get 2.4Ghz working? I know that we, the poor users of Apple products, are on our own, so I'm hoping that someone can help.

I got iPhone 6 IOS8 [ not updated ] for a few months now worked fine until now WiFi not working  in my home tried reset , turning off phone , nothing worked , Got it to work by unplugging the router WiFi Box unit for a few seconds  ! works like a charm now , Super fast
