Another "Will CUDA Help?" Thread
Hey folks -
In this thread, Colin helped me understand how to do PiPs with multicam. What I'm curious now is: will the CUDA processors on an nVidia card actually help me any with that sort of thing?
I did a test this evening taking two copies of the exact same AVCHD footage ... around 20 minutes worth of it. I synced the copies up with the WAV track from my sound recorder, and then set about doing the multicam edit. That included shrinking camera 2 down to 45% of its original size and overlaying it on top of the lower right corner of the camera 1 output. Then exporting it to 1080p h.264 MPEG4. Total time for the export: about 1h20m. Six times as long as the video itself. Of note: the multicam edit sequence had a red bar over the entire timeline.
The next test I did was to just sync one copy of the video up with the WAV and then export that one in the same format: it took about 20 minutes or so. Basically: real time. This sequence had a yellow bar over the entire timeline.
I know there are optimizations I can make to the system re: disk drives and where certain cache files are put. That's a process I'm going to work on as hardware arrives from various online vendors. But what I don't know is: is it worth my money to buy a CUDA-enabled card? Or will it not help me at all with that multicam/PiP thing?

Looks like I answered my own question by performing a bit of an experiment with my Windows gaming rig. Said rig has an "old" GTX295 in it which isn't supported out of the box by Premiere. I downloaded a trial of the Windows version of Premiere, did the text file edit so that my GTX was used, and then did the video edit. The same, exact video I tested on my Mac exported in near real time with the CUDA-enabled card, even with PiP enabled.
So yeah, CUDA helps with this specific challenge.

Another WILL NOT POST Threads :/
Firstly, I have built this comp with it running fine all went wrong when I was swapping my stock AMD64 HS&F to the Zalman 7000A-AlCu. I performed a search and tried as most things that I could to get the comp running back again, but to no avail the D-bracket kept reading all red leds.
In a struggle to get everything on the road again, I went back to my retailer and applied for it to be returned back and fixed. 12 days later I receive the motherboard and apparently there was an error with the controller (as the note had stated with the motherboard). Upon getting back to work with the board, I had noticed it was not the K8T Neo but some other MSI Pentium Neo board.
Again I had to wait for a few days before I was called up to pick up the board.
I checked that it was the FIS2R and hurried back home to hopefully see that the board will work.
I would have thought the problem would the board would have been rectified, but the problem is still the same, except that the D-bracket shows 1 green led on number 1 and all red on the rest.
I've plugged in the 20pin and 4pin power cables in, i've tried reslotting the ram in the various ram slots, but no difference to that of not putting in any ram in at all. I've taken out the power for the video card and for the case fans, but still the same result.
I'm regretting to change the damn HSF in the first place, I am guessing that maybe the CPU is gone?
I'm extremely annoyed and have no idea on what I should do, if anyone has any suggestions that would be of help it would be appreciated.
Thanks for whoever had the the time and patience to read my silly story.I would have thought the new mobo was tested, so I would check the pins on the CPU, has one got bent? Make sure the paste has not caused a short on pins or components. Check CPU and heatsink are making good contact, there is a ledge on H/S make sure it not interfering with components or CPU

After getting notified my linking of a help thread to all the threads suffering a common issue and the help thread being deleted I will try one more time to assist people who have broken phones, Mine was stuck in a boot loop or would only work if connected to the wall, I suspected the battery and have replaced it and now the phone works 100% again, However when I replaced the battery and booted the phone it got hot with Android 5.02 installed, also simply while charging as well, This prompted me to roll back to 4.4.4 and all the heat issue has gone and the phone is working 100% again, This leads me to conclude 5.0.2 is flawed and is directly destroying batteries simply during the charge cycle until the battery even though reporting good and appearing charged 100% is in fact dead and holding about 5% charge which is not enough to boot properly, I actuall suspect the little connector on the battery is the victim of 5.0.2 but that's another day once I can test my theory, So for now I would NOT update my phone to Lollypop until 5.1.1 is available for the device, if you want proof Google any Android phone running Lollypop and look at the similarities to the ones us Sony users have had, Some small remedies to help you repair yours if it's too late and it simply won't boot, If you have the rear off of it, unclip the battery connector for a 30 seconds, hold power button and release, then reconnect the connector, Now hold Vol+ and Power until you get 3 vibes, Now plug it into the wall charger and leave it for a few hours, You can now attempt to boot it, if it boots and stays live long enough you may be able to flash back to 4.4.4 through Flashtool, not the Sony one, you need the one with the lightning bolt option, If you can complete the flash you may find it needs the back placed back on to read the NFC chip to fully install, All this is best done with a known good battery, one that can complete the flash or at least 25% charged 50% is better, Final advise, DO NOT UPGRADE TO LOLLYPOP YET! I have the 5.1.1 on my Nexus 7 and it's great, but until it's an option on your phone avoid the updates, 4.4.4 removes all heat issues and it's heat that shuts it down in the end as it happened to me twice. I trust this is suitable this time.
Besides some major issues with your design (who's going to call Ticker's stop() to stop the thread? Why doesn't your servlet have a useful doGet()/doPost()? Why not use your servlet as a web-based admin tool for your auto-emailer?), the probable reason for your thread not running is that you don't start it anywhere!
An instance of your Runnable implementation (Ticker, in your case) needs to be passed to the Thread constructor (ExternalMailJavaBean in your case). Then the thread instance's start() method needs to be called.
In your code, I see that Ticker is just used for timing. Why not do that in the ExternalMailJavaBean class's run() method instead? You need to work through the Thread tutorial again. -
Will Apple help us with ATT rate hikes? Who do I contact?
Just a few months ago - and at the time I entered into my 2 year contract - unlimited textings was avaialble for less that 5 dollars more. But that is now gone and what has taken its place is just Dick Channey crazy!
Wasnt the whole point of APPLE insisting that phone plans all come with unlimited internet so that this would encourage the owners to fully integrate the iphone in to their daily lives? Does having huge rate increases in texting help that cause ?
MY QUESTION TO APPLE and its user forums - WHO do I contact at apple or at ATT for help on this issue??

ATT has implemented monsterous rate hikes and LIMITATIONS on package combinations so that iphone users will pay as much or more for Texting than they do for unlimited internet.
We had to live with unlimited internet not including unlimited texting. OK fine, thats how it was when we signed up and you have to take it or leave it. But now with the new changes in rates - here is what the iphone user has as their options.
200 included texts for free
or
$5 - get 200 more - 400 texts total
or
THE NEXT OPTION - $20 MORE, for not unlimited but 1500 texts.
Does having to keep an eye on your text totals or paying at least $85 / month sound like the vision that apple wanted for the iphone users?

I have been with ATT since Cingular and I've had internet,text and MMS combo packages for some time now; that Includes shopping around for the right phone and plans combo. And I know for a fact that there were MANY combos of unlimited and they were FAR from 50 bucks.
There certainly might be a webpage or two with some ancient pricing plans offered. And I am sure that any one of those would be superceeded by another new price offer on the same plan.

One of the qualifications is to have been a customer in good standing for a period of time. You can check their website for what that is. After that, they can unlock the GSM side of the phone for International use, that is it. If you are on a CDMA carrier, then it cannot be unlocked. Are you trying to use a local SIM card in China?
Your only option is to contact Sprint to see if you qualify for an unlock. Only they can unlock it. Sprint is one of the poorest choices to take to another country. -

I have a MacBook Pro and the batter icon has an "X" in it. I attempted resetting the SMC but it's still there. Not sure if the SMC didn't work or I have another problem. Help?

Also hold the OPTION key and click on the Apple logo in the menu bar and click on system information, in the left column select power. Under the battery info see if it is charging (with the power adapter plugged in) as well as the health info (condition should be normal), and battery installrd (should be YES)
If other than these are different you may want to take it in to a Genius bar for a full diagnosis they will do that for dree.

Timer that will interrupt a thread
How do I create a timer that will interrupt a thread?
I need to put this timer inside the thread, and I should be able to manipulate the time.
I have managed to create an inner class that act as the timer. But, I can't make the timer to interrupt the main thread.
Can anyone help me? Is there any simpler way to do this?See Thread.interrupt()
If you call this while a thread has called sleep() and is waiting, this should then throw an InterruptedException
BTW, in the case where you have a thread that reading from a socket / inputstream, and blocked on read(), the way that I always use to unblock my thread is to simply close the stream, which generates an IOException and unblocks the thread.
...And BTW Thread.stop() has never been implemented and does nothing!

There is nothing wrong with the OS update.
Delete ALL your email accounts.
Restart Playbook
Put the accounts back and ensure they are all set with PUSH ON. Manual (push off) will burn battery.
Similarly delete your wifi connections and add back when required.
Turn off wifi is not connected to wifi.
Any "hunting for connection" in email or wifi will burn up battery. -
Will Apple help me get Panther back?

I recently had to do a complete wipe of my five-year-old dual USB iBook after a leaf count error (no idea what that means, just that the disk utility and fsck couldn't do crud for it). I saved what I could on an external HD and now I'm looking to rebuild my system. The problem: I can't get back to my former OS (10.4). The reason for this is, my 10.4 state of bliss was due to an upgrade DVD that my then-partner used on my computer, running 10.3 at the time. Why did I have 10.3? Well, I sure didn't purchase it! Back in the day, I actually sent my iBook in under AppleCare for the notorious logic board repair/replace a couple years ago and it came back with 10.3 installed, gratis! Very cool...except now I have no disk for it. I DO have the upgrade DVD for Tiger, but that won't work while I'm running Jaguar (10.2).
Will Apple help me out with this if I, say, take it to a Genius bar? I know I just got lucky with the AppleCare upgrade, but I've been running my life around 10.4 for awhile now and 10.2 feels like the stone-age. Is there any way I can convince them to help me restore it back to its former Tiger self?

More or less by accident, Apple has allowed you to use Panther and then Tiger on a trial basis at no charge for some time. Your next step is to buy one of them yourself. You aren't owed another free copy of either.
If the Tiger DVD your ex-partner used on your machine was an upgrade-only disc, it may have been offered at a deep discount to buyers of new Macs who purchased them with Panther installed, but after Tiger had been released. I got a Panther upgrade installer of the same kind on that basis a couple of years ago, when I bought a new Powerbook with Jaguar installed on it after Panther was introduced. The license for the software on that disc allows it to be installed on one and only one Mac.
In any event, you need to pony up for a retail installer of the OS you want. -

If you are unable to restore your iPhone with iTunes without having to enter the passcode, you will not be able to update your iPhone's backup. You will need to place the iPhone into recovery mode in order to restore the iPhone with iTunes and you can restore from the most recent backup available.

Switched to iPhone 5 on July 31st. Since then our data usage has doubled. Verizon will not help find out what the problem could be, they claim they are unaware of a problem. I told them to look on the customer support page and many have complained about the problem. Now on the apple site I see it may be an apple problem. Some one needs to fix this. Apple you want us to use your products, please do t make it cost us more money just to do what we did prior without problems. Prior phones were iPhone 4 and we never had issues and never went over 8 gb's for 4 phones. Now we are doing 14. Can anyone tell me what is going on. Getting ready to stop using cell phones all together.
Well you could Restore it from your backup and see if that helps. If it doesn't Restore it as new and manually add things back until the problem starts again.
I would also suggest trying a different SIM.
Without iOS 7 there is no way to isolate what is using the data. -

Frontier will not help unless I agree to a costly protection. Apple says I have to have their extra contract or pay for a one-time fee.
I cannot use my acct on my iPad this way.Not something I would suspect Apple could help with. The most obvious solution is to,change your email address. You might also check with your email provider and see if there an any anti-spam settings on the server that would help.

My daughters ipod touch has been disabled because of a wrong passcode. After 2 days of trying to get into Itunes, it will not help without a passcode and is not recognizing it as a device even though the computer is recognizing the USB. I know I have to do a complete recovery, but can I do this without Itunes (or Icloud)?

If I buy a new macbook with Apple, will they help me install a dual operating system?
I've heard Bootcamp does this, but I've never owned a Mac before, and am daunted by the change. I would love a Mac for ease of use, as many of my friends seem to love it, but for school purposes, my PC laptop is better. My PC needs to be updated, though, and I really want to spring for the Mac, I just don't want to lose being able to not have to do my homework in a computer lab. A friend has dual operating systems on hers, and says it works beautifully for running both, though I don't know what macbook she's got. If I go to an Apple store and get a laptop from them, even bring the Windows 7 operating system (I'm NOT doing Windows 8), will they help do this for me? Does anyone know if it is alright to have the dual systems, or if it takes away from the hardware's ability to work? ANY advice is welcome.
It is not hard. Boot Camp allows running Windows natively, same as on a laptop PC would be with a few differences in fan and thermal control and drivers.
Once installed natively which would be dual-boot setup, you can then install and use VMware or Parallels to assign the Windows partition for use as a VM inside OS X, no more need to dual boot unless you want to.
