Another Zen Micro Prob

Well i've had my 5gb micro since may and i've already had to return it since the on/off/hold button wasnt working but recently i've come accross another problem in that sometimes when i try to turn on my micro it immediately turns off and it will keep doing this until i let it rest for about an hour....after that hour is up and i try to turn it on it will work for a few minutes and then shut itself off again, i've reinstalled the firmware and this problem still happens...since im not covered under my warantee anymore can anyone tell me how much will it cost to send it in or if there is a solution for this problem?

im pretty sure the battery isnt dead unless i have a faulty battery but i've taken out the battery and plugged the micro into the usb port and it still wont turn on or charge

  • Horrible Zen Micro Prob

First of all, I think I had alot to do with this error. After I took my new Zen Micro 6GB White out of the box, I put it in the battery place, and then set it to charge on my PC for like 3.5 hrs. I neglected to install the Zen Micro Explorer before charging it. The player wasn't recognized by Creative MediaSource or Windows. While the player was charging, it did not pulsate and the charging icon did not flicker, and the backlight was on for the whole time, but the LED was off, and the controls did not respond. After charging I turned it on, to see that only battery bar was charged. I listened to some radio and the demo tracks (it has very good audio quality and earphones). I looked at the version in the Information sectuion. It came up as 2.20.05. I then installed the Creative software inside the Installation CD and then updated all the components from the Creative Support site. I downloaded the Firmware update for PlaysForSure because aparently v2 and over are P4S players. I connected the player to the PC, it was recognized as a 20MB (opposed to 6GB) MTP device by WMP but not recognized in Zen Explorer or MediaSource. I also tried to make it I thought it was that the firmware was too old to be recognized, so I did the unthinkable. I got into Recovery Mode for the Zen Micro and then formatted the dri've, then did the Reload Firmware because I thought it would just reinstall the Firmware. It erased the firmware, and everytime I turn it on, a Firmware Error appears. I tried to update the Firmware, but the player doesn't get recognized by the update program Creative gives. When I plug it into the PC it seems to charge, the proper way (with pulsating) and I can use the interface, but its useless because I have a 6GB player with no firmware, so therefore useless.
I want to know how to fix this problem, or is it hopeless?. Can I just use the player on another PC and install a new firmware there? Or do I have to send it back to where I got it from, or to Creative? While you're replying, I'll just be kicking myself.
Oh and here's my system specs:
    Intel D865GBF Mobo
    P4HT 3GHz Northwood
    2x52MB DDR400 Single Channel
    ATI RADEON X850XT AGP
    SB Audigy 2 ZS OEM
Win XP Pro SP2 (fully updated)
    Creative MediaSource 3.30.2 & WMP 0
*btw I used a USB. port because my PC doesn't recognize USB2*

I JUST FIGURED IT OUT. HOORAY!
First of all, I started with a bad firmware of ZM 2.20.05. I did a clean uninstall of all Zen Micro related software and drivers (excluding what Audigy 2 needs). I restarted. Then I uninstalled all the drivers under USB in Device Manager. Then I restarted again. Then I installed the Zen Micro Explorer from the CD. Restart again. Then, during the registration autorun comes up, I plugged in the MP3 to my PC (USB. port). The PC didn't recognize it for a while, then it recognized a MTP. I skipped registration, because it was not able to detect ZM. I went into Device Manager, uninstalled the MTP device (just press Del after selecting it). Then I ran the Firmware Update ..0 (2.2.02 failed for some reason). After it said to insert the MP3, I scanned for hardware changes in Device Manager. Voila! The firmware update recognized it as 2.20.05, and successfully upgraded (well, downgraded) it to the ..0 version. After that it was all pretty simple because I updated all my Zen Micro drivers and Explorer. Remember that if you do get stuck, uninstalling all USB drivers is a good start. Beware that if you do uninstall USB ports, you will temporarily lose control of all your USB devices (including all USB mice and keyboards). WinXP usually does detect it again very soon. If not, then restart. Well now, I have successfully fixed the firmware, successfully put tracks on it, successfully changed the settings of it, and then successfully put the same tracks on it again with my USB2.0 port (it really does make a difference).
This should be made permanent or stickied. I bet lots of people are gonna do what I did, and then attempt to suicide while waiting for Customer Support.
PS: You can use this same method to fix the problem where you connect your MP3 into the PC without installing any drivers (v or v2). Just skip the Update firmware part.Message Edited by rbinc on 0-29-2006 04:29 AM

  • Another ambiguous Zen Micro prob

    Error message : "Hardware problem".
Tried everything imaginable, connecting to computer, charging, attempting to get into recovery mode, yadda yadda. It was up to date firmware wise (MTP version, with audible support, can't remember exact version, v2 something).
It was working perfectly, until i tried to turn it off. It froze for 5 hours with the shutting down message on screen. I pulled the battery out, put it back in, and got this message.
Also, what really makes me sad is that since I bought this in Hong Kong (This year, august) and moved back to the UK the warranty is invalid. Any help? I'm guessing it's just a corrupt file or something on the disk, is there any way of formatting and starting over?

Anecdotally your local Creative Support will honour the warranty of the region you bought it in. I'm not sure what the HK warranty is though...
Hardware problem is a serious error, so the player needs repair/replacement.

  • Alas, another Zen Micro charging quest

I searched the boards and didn't find anything quite like my problem:
When I use the AV outlet to charge my Micro, it doesn't show the little lightning bolt thingy, but the "docked" sign thingy. Anbody have any solutions?

    Is this using Creative's adapter?
It shouldn't display the docked sign, it should just show the charging icon (if necessary of course).
Have you tried removing and reseating the battery?
It's also worth making sure you have at least the .02.05 firmware.

  • Pleeeaaase help! Zen Micro Prob

I used to be able to import songs. But now, all it says is "failed". It used to do this from time to time, but I would either restart the computer or plug it back into the USB cord and it would then most of the time, work fine. Im not sure what's wrong, but whenever I try importing songs, they always fail. When I try "organizing the music in device" it shows that there isn't any songs in the media library. I have no clue what is going on. All help is APPRECIATED. Thank you

Same sort of thing happened to me a couple of days ago. The screen went totally blank. I plugged it into computer and it started charging and a song played but nothing came up on the screen. I could skip songs but nothing came up on the screen. I reseted it but nothing happened. I repeated this then the creative logo thing came up then it turned off. Please could anybody who has had this problem or a representati've from creative help us. (I have emailed thier support address but I have heard nothing)

  • Zen Micro headphone jack loosened resulting in poor earphone connect

I have had the 5g zen micro for 9 months now and love it. My battery play time has been tremendous, I migrated to the window media player and managing my music cannot be easier, I bought some high end earphones and the sound has been off the charts. But, recently, the headphone connection became loose and now my sound goes in and out, from right to left, sometimes muted or muffled...unless I hold the jack in place. It's become impossible to enjoy my music now.
I have sent a note to Creative customer service how I can get this fixed ASAP, as I don't want to be without my mp3 for an extended period of time. Has anyone had to deal with Creative on this? Do you have any suggestions?
I just bought another zen micro for a family member and now worried this may happen to them. I have not heard this problems from any of my friends that use the IPOD

Sounds like the common headphone jack problem. You need to contact support. iPods have the problem also, as do most (if not all) players. Whether the incidence is the same, who knows!

  • Problems with Zen MIcro not turning on or

I have a problem with my Zen Micro not turning on or off. The only way to turn it on is to plug it into the power or USB cable :-(
I have done a quick search and the posts that I have found on this topic suggest that I will need to send it back to Creative! Anyone found a "magic" solution for this problem other than sending it back?
I have done a firmware upgrade just in case that would solve the problem but unfortunately it did not.
What with this problem and the earlier problems I had with battery life I am thinking of sending the thing back and going for a different Creative player. The Zen Sleek seems to have a good range of features ... anyone had any good or bad experiences with the Sleek?
    Any comments appreciated.

well..unfortunatly i have had this same problem. i made a topic about it and some of u may have read it..i can't seem to find it now. but i have found the resolution to this problem..send it back! i baught my from circuit city..i just got home from there..very nice guy helped me out at the customer service counter. grabbed my receipt, all the contents it origionally included and the box and headed to circuit city. i did exchange the zen micro for another zen micro. we both converstaed with eahochter about how i have heard other ppl complain about this problem. creative needs to do there homework. hopefully it won't happen to me again.

[size="2" face="Verdana">I've had my zen micro for about a year, because I got it last Christmas. I've listened to it frequently since I first got it. Yes, I've read all of the help tutorials but they talk about [color="#00cc33">recovery mode, formatting,?clean up, and things of that nature. • Zen Micro Problem! It's Urgent!!!! Please Help me!!

OK, so recently i just got a brand new Zen Micro and i had a Zen Micro before the one i currently own, but i traded it for my current one because i couldnt get sound out of the earjacks sometimes. My old Zen used to instantly get on either of my computers, one which iz a windows 2000 and another which iz a windows xp.
Anyway, now that i have my new one, ever since i've gotten it, every time i plug it into the USB outlet, it says its not connected. I went to recovery mode and did every single option there, because not only did my family say that's what i should do, but a good friend i have that works at Best Buy told me to do that also. So i did that and all that did was delete the 3 songs that came with the mp3 player and get rid of my firmware, which i cant download because my computer doesnt recognize my zen!!!! PLEASE HELPPPPPPP!!!
I know there have been many other posts like this but im 5 and not too educated with computers. I just want to know exactly how do i fix this problem, or if i can or if i should just give up now and trade it in for another zen micro. I'd like to stay with the one i have now, but this is seriously getting annoying!

Ok, it doesnt appear on my device manager. I've tried both my Windows XP and Windows 2000, neither seem to notice it. It glows with a blue aura as if like its charging, and on the Windows XP, it does show that its docked but i still can not get it to upload music or even be noticed on the device manager. I do hear the ding-dong though, and i can upload songs through musicmatch, but i'd much rather use my zen explorer.
On 2000, i have no reaction other than the charging of the battery. No Docking, No ding-dong sound, Nothing! What should i do now? I even returned it and got another Micro in hopes that this annoyance would end but it continues to proceed! Any help is welcomed and i need help ASAP because i have an upcoming vacation and i'd like to have at least some entertainment other than the TV in my hotel room!

  • Zen Micro: Is the gap between tracks nor

I bought a Zen Micro mainly because I was told that it does not insert a gap between tracks. The trouble is that mine does insert a tiny, but incredibly annoying, blip between tracks.
I would really appreciate if another Zen Micro owner could tell me if this gap is normal or there is something wrong with my unit. I have tried 3 different levels of firmware, various formats and bit rates, but each time media player plays tracks seamlessly, but the Zen Micro inserts the gap.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ian

There is a somewhat technical reason as to why mp3 files cannot play seamlessly. Its because each part of the mp3 is split up into frames. You can only have frames, you can't have half frames or /4 frames. So I guess when a song ends, the little gap is the rest of the frame filling in space so it can be read properly. There is only one player that I know of that can actually skip the blank part of the frame and play gaplessly, I think its one of the Rio players but I can't remember to be honest
If I'm completely wrong in my explanation, someone please correct me

  • Are Zen Micros (5GB) Discontinu

Went shopping for another Zen Micro, and, found only the 6 GB available. I tried numerous Staples, and, Best Buy stores with no luck. I ended up buying the 6 GB (For $20.00 more) at J&R. All the stores I tried said, they doubt that the 5 GB would be back.
With all the problems I'm reading on the Micro 5, I wonder if Creative abandoned the 5GB
version, with a new modified version (Excluding The Problems)- Zen Micro 6GB?Message Edited by PegasusSound on 0-8-2006 2:00 PM

Those stores never seemed to have carried them in the first place when I was searching. I found my 5GB Micro at BH and it sells fast. When they put "In Stock" on their website, it's back to "Out of Stock" within hours.

  • Zen Micro not recognized - 1 millionth complai

I've read scores of posts on this topic: my Zen Micro isn't recognized by my computer.
When I connect the player to my computer, I get a message that the "usb device is not recognized" and the player itself freezes and the only solution is to remove the battery.
I'm using the v2.-firmware. My pc uses WindowsXP Home Edition, SP2.
    Things I've already tried:
    - uninstalled and reinstalled the creative drivers and software
    - downloaded every possible driver or software update the creative website has to offer for my OS
    - tried another usb slot and another usb cable
    - updated the usb drivers
    - uninstalled the usb ports and reinstalled them
    - in the hardware list, double clicked the "unknown device" that should be the player and tried to manually direct it to the correct drivers
    - connected another Zen Micro to my pc, this one also isn't recognized
    - connected my Zen Micro to another pc running Linux, this works!
    - cleaned up the disk in the recovery menu
    - went to the regedit menu, adjusted the permissions in hkey_local_machine>system>Enum
All of these were possible solutions I found online, but none of them work. I already contacted Tech Support through e-mail, but the only advice they give me are things I've already tried, even though I specifically mention the list of all the things I've already tried in EVERY e-mail I exchange with them.
One thing they also advized me to do, is to reload the firmware, but this is impossible since the computer won't recognize that the player is indeed connected to it.
The funny thing is, if I remove all the creative drivers and software and then reinstall it all, there's a slim chance of it working again -- temporarily. Sometimes the player is still not recognized, sometimes it gets recognized by the pc but not by the software, sometimes it'll work perfectly but only once. In this case, it'll work for just that moment but the next day, when I reconnect the player (without even rebooting the pc or anything) it'll just go back to the same old "usb device not recognized" message.
Is this the time when I'm officially allowed to get desperate?

    Daniel,
    thanks for your reply!
I'd already installed the hotfixes your referred to, but did so again - just to make sure. Unfortunately, the problem remains...
st time I connected the player after installing the hotfixes, I didn't get any "usb device not recognized"-message. The player was listed in Device Manager, but unfortunately the software still didn't acknowledge that a player was connected (I tried Creative MediaSource Organizer and Windows Media Player 0). Meanwhile, the player itself still freezes. You get as far as the "now playing" screen, but it doesn't go to the "connected" screen you're supposed to see when you've connected your player and you're going to transfer data. Again, the only way to shut down the player was to remove the battery.
2nd time I reconnected it, I suddenly got a "new hardware found" message. A few seconds later the pc reports that the new hardware is installed correctly and is ready for use, followed by the old "usb device not recognized" message. Player is frozen, as usual.
3rd time. Back to square one: player is frozen and I get the old "device not recognized" message again.

  • Anybody else with a tight Zen Micro USB por

    Hi,
just got a new Zen Micro, white.
The USB port is really tight, everytime I unplug the cord, I really have to jank it.
Anybody else have this problem ?
The reason I ask is that on my video cam, after a few of hard janks, my port broke down.
If this is an isolated unit problem, then I will RMA, but if it is the same for all units, then I'll stick.
Don't have another Zen Micro to try, but tried the plug on the Nomad, and this fits real nice.
    Thanks,

    Just got back from Fry's.
And confirmed that the port is also tight on another Zen Micro.
I guess the Micros are designed that way. I'll keep the unit.
    Thanks,
