Anoying Sound

I have a MacBook Pro (4,1), a 2008 model. It's been working perfect until the last several months when it started to make a really annoying sound coming from under the keyboard. It's comming from under the keyboard on both sides. The sound on the left is a spinning sound with a clicking. On the top right side it's making a rotating noise with a buzzing, with an occasional click as well. It doesn't fluctuates from full on loud, to a medium level. It's not constant, as it'll stop for a few seconds here or there, or if I'm lucky for a few minutes.
Any ideas on what this cold be? I'm not sure where the fan and or HD is located, but I'd guess that's the problem. Is thre a way to diagnose this? My Apple Care and warrantly ran out, but that doesn't mean that I want to start taking apart the enitre computer and end up breaking it more.
Also, my other problem is a dead battery. The icon on the top right on the screen has an "x" in the battery icon and says " No Batteries Available" If I unplug the power adapter from the computer it just turns off. Could this be part of the problem?
I recorded the sounds being made. Let me know if anything sounds familair. It's kinda hard to differentiate which noise is coming from which side. If I'm not mistaken the very first one is from the right side (when looing head on towards the laptop)
My Apple Care and warrantly is no longer available, so a I'm willing to try something without completely compromising my laptop. Looking forward to any suggestions.
I'm basically trying to see if I can figure out a fix on here to avoid having to go to the Apple store and pay some kind of ridiculous diagnostics chanrge.
Thanks,
Adam

The noise makers on a MBP are the HDD, the fans and the Optical drive.  Based on your description, the odds are the HDD is the culprit.
I suggest that you have your data backed up.  Then go to the iFixit.com web site and locate the HDD replacement instructions.  It is not the easiest procedure, but with care and patience, it can be done.
It is not likely that the battery has any part of this issue, but replace it.  Then your MBP will be able to oprate at maximum efficiency.
Ciao.

  • M30 Harman Kardon speakers anoying sqeaking feedback sound

After installing the HP Tele in a box software I found that my speakers began to squeal similar to feedback. I have attempted to re install the drivers but the niose is still anoying me. I have unistaled the tv in a box and taken it back to the shop after it stopped responding shortly after purchase. Can anyone assist me with this anoying sound?

    Hi
check in the mixer settings (in the Control Panel > Sound & Audio devices > Device Volume > Advanced > [New Window] Volume Control) that the output channel MIC is muted. That should stop the feedback.

it's making high pitch sound whever I start gaming
did have this before RMA, when it was working
I remember this sound from back in the nvidia 7xxx/8xxx series, remember reading somewhere it was normal for cap to make this kind of sound?
    not sure....

That sound can happen on video cards and is usually generated by some coil on the card when the card si heavy loaded .I have it on my 4850 and in 3D Mark 03 on my 5770.Never had it on my previous Nvidia cards though. You can have that with your PSU too.If your card is performing ok don t worry about it.Try and use V-Sync ON in driver control panel ,it may fix the anoying sound ,at least in some games.

  • How do I turn off the sound when an error message pops up?

There is an anoying sound when an error message pops up in FF. I looked in the preferences but there doesn't seem to be an option to disable it.

    https://www.liberiangeek.net/2013/07/how-to-change-or-disable-the-alert-sound-in-ubuntu/
Settings may have changed in a couple years in Ubuntu but this gives an idea of where to look.
Firefox itself does not have such sound notifications.

This is on Linux and not Windows but you are on right track.

  • No startup sound - is normal?

It is normal that after upgrading to Mavericks my Mac doesn't make the startup sound anymore?
Somewhere I read that if your Mac isn't doing this (anoying) sound, it means that something is not working well.
    Who knows more about it?
    Thanks!

There seem to be conflicting answers here from you and Carolyn, who both seem to be very knowledgeable.  My startup sound is gone.  Yesterday I used disk utility on all my drives to verify and repair and repair permissions, I did the thing where you unplug the cord from the back of the computer and wait 30 seconds then plug it in and wait fifteen seconds and then startup, AND I zapped the PRAM successfully (after which I did get a startup chime on next restart, but now I no longer do).  I ALSO ran the AHT on both the quick and long tests, both of which came out perfect.  All of my drives show as VERIFIED.
I wouldn't be worried except my computer is exhibiting very strange behavior.  A month or so ago I upgraded to Mavericks, and my computer appeared to be acting fine, though slightly slower on startup and on opening folders.  The reason I became worried is that recently I had odd things happen, like that my right click on my mouse didn't work (fixed when PRAM zapped I think), but now my magic mouse scrolling doesn't work all the time. It only works if I scroll first using the trackpad, then it magically works again. Occasioinally it works perfectly.  Tried all the normal fixes for that too.
AND my computer froze a few days ago just while looking at photos in aperture.  Now it was not uncommon for aperture to freeze, but my entire computer froze and I had to hard restart.  Happened repeatedly, though aperture seems fine (but slower) now that I pram zapped etc.
I don't care so much if my computer dies, since I have a superduper backup clone. What I am concerned about is all my photos on my external drives.  I am in the process of exporting them to work with lightroom instead (aperture has repeatedly trashed some of my originals over the last year) and I am afraid that I may corrupt photos while working with them.
Any ideas?  I would just go back to Mountain Lion but aperture forced me to upgrade my library already.

  • N8 vibrates when call answered

    Hello there.
This is what happens: I call someone, that someone picks up/answers the call, my phone vibrates a few seconds after they asnwered causing a really anoying sound on the other side of the call.
I would apreciate if you could remind me how to disable this function.
Thank you very much for your time.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Have you checked if there is an option to turn it off? Also, it may be due to an app. NetQin Mobile Guard creates the same effect on a 5800.

    Hello !

    Thanks &

Temporarily: Hold the Shift key while you press the volume controls.
    OR
Permanently: Disable "Play feedback when volume is changed" in the Sound Effects tab of the Sound Control Panel.

  • S750 Sub issue

Hi, haven't heard from support yet so I'll try posting here.
I've noticed something with my sub, the nice "blow-hole" on the side of it is making a really anoying sound.
When bass is cranked up you can hear a disturbing sound from the hole, much like thin leaves shaking on pavement, this sound only comes from the blowhole.
I used my 007 flashlight and found some sort of grate at the end of the disturbing hole. Now, this is just what i believe (correct me if im wrong) but the grate-thing seems to vibrate like a bi***h when the sub hits some nasty tones that in anotherhand leads to the disturbing leaf sound, now this is really pissing me off, this must not be the intention.
    Anyone else with this problem?
    How to fix?
    Shouldnt be like this, right?
And, please! for the love of god don't tell me that I'll have to ship the whole package to the vendor a second time.

What subwoofer volume settings do you guys use? In my Surround Mixer (Audigy 2 ZS) and on my speaker remote, I have the subwoofer volume set to default settings on both. The problem is obviously amplified when turning up the bass, but it does occur when left at default.
One thing I noticed is that my subwoofer does not have any sort of dampening pads or fiber glass material on the inside. I though I read in a review that these speakers should have that. I'm positive that the MegaWorks 50D has fiber glass padding on the inside. (See here: http://www.ixbt.com/multimedia/creat...sub-inside.jpg) I'm wondering if part of the noise we are hearing is the standing waves within the woofer enclosure.
Do your systems have sound dampening material on the inside? If not, then that would be a good thing for Creative/Cambridge SoundWorks to put into their next set.
    -Edit for corrections.

  • Problem with old mb, need advice what mb to buy

I have a Msi Z77A-G45 Thunderbolt mb that gives my som crackling noise sound when i use the onboard soundcard or use my usb soundcard with a power full gpu, but only when i play games (usb soundcard).
Got a gigabyte Z77X D3H, guess what...... i need a ps2 (mabye an adapter could do it, but i dont have any, it shouldn't be nessery to buy a ps 2 keyboard to get acess to the bios, it has uefi bios.
Asrock extreme 4 also have a uefi bios that i am afread of will give me problems again entering bios again
Both uefi bios look the same so i think it's not much difference between those 2 bios
I want to stay under 120€ incl shipping (live in denmark)
I have tried to use my laptop and phone no anoying sound, but also with my ipg (i5 3570k and a old 8600gt both not at all using alot of power doing games), sound problems happens doing games using a powerfull gpu (lots of power usage) or using onboard soundcard.

I think you're right it sounds like an electrical sound
if you want to change the motherboard like sea dog said look at the MSI catalog to find the one that suits you the most >>HERE<<
personnally I don't know the prices ine Danemark (I buy everything in France) so if you have a link i can try to help,
if it was up to me would take the Z77A-G45-Gaming or GD65-Gaming but if you prefer the normal series i would say GD-55 or GD65 it depends on the prices
PS: for ethical matters i can't speak about other companies in the MSI Forum

  • Since windows 8.1 usb ports and sound are acting strange

    Hello,
Since I upgraded to windows 8.1 my sound randomly stutters(very anoying) and my usb ports get turned off, only the ports that have been occupied since boot, new things work, and not reinsterting the things that were present at boot, in the same or a different
    port doesn't work.
Hell, why do we pay for an OS that doesn't even work?
I expect that something as simple as an USB port or sound would work just fine.
I have installed all the latest drivers but somehow windows seems to screw things up.
When I boot up debian, I have no problems at ALL. And did I pay a dime for Debian? No, it is free.
I am getting really depressed here, paying for stuff that doesn't work.
So does anyone know any other way to fix this OS than by breaking the disc and never return to it?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Best practices export video with 5.1 surround sound

I've created my first 5.1 FCPX project and would like to play on an Apple TV2 as well as a Windows 7 HTPC running Windows Media Center.  I've been trolling this and FCPX discussions and still having much difficulty.  I've exported Quicktime movie using ProRes 422, opened in Compressor 4 and verified that file has six channel audio.  I seletect target, HD for Apple Devices, Device Apple TV HD and select include 5.1 sound.
Here is the summary for output:
Name: HD for Apple Devices (10 Mbps)
Description: Compatible with Apple TV (2G), iPad, and iPhone/iPod touch with Retina Display
    File Extension: m4v
    Estimated size: 117.7 MB
    Device: Apple TV HD
    Frame sync rate: Automatic
    Video Encoder
              Width and Height: Automatic
                        Selected: 960 x 720
              Pixel aspect ratio: HD (960x720)
              Crop: None
              Padding: None
              Frame rate: (100% of source)
                        Selected: 29.97
              Frame Controls: Automatically selected: Off
              Codec Type: H.264
              Multi-pass: On, frame reorder: On
              Pixel depth: 24
              Spatial quality: 50
              Min. Spatial quality: 50
              Temporal quality: 50
              Min. temporal quality: 50
              Average data rate: 5 (Mbps)
              Maximum data rate: 14 (Mbps)
    Audio Encoder
              Sample Rate: 48.000kHz
              Channels: 2
              Bits Per Sample: 16
              AAC encoder quality: high
              Data rate: 128 Kbps
    Include Dolby 5.1 Audio track
Compatible with Mac, PC, iPad, Apple TV (1st gen.), Apple TV (2nd gen.) and iPhone 4,
Resulting m4v file only has 2 channels as seen in get file info and when playing on the ATV2 and HTCP.
    What am I missing here?
    TIA
    DJK

I had the same problem - my findings:
    - source has 6 channels --> verified via inspector in Compressor
I create 1 Job (in compressor) with exactly this source:
    - one with (a modified) "HD for Appledevices..." giving a *.m4v and "Include 5.1" checked - output is stereo
    - one with Quicktime - H.264 + Audio = 5.1  giving a *.mov that does have the 5.1 track
So I consider case #1 as a bug in Compressor 4.02 or the Settings-profile.
Anoying - because I am almost sure it worked in the past!

  • E71 Sound Lag in Games

I am experiencing up to 1 second lag time between when i should hear a sound, and when it plays. This is extremely anoying while playing games, ie. car crashes into wall and crash sound plays 1 second after it happens. This issue seems to affect all sounds effects in all games. Are others having this issue, and will this be fixed in an upcoming patch?

Is that flash games? I don't use e71 for games, but i've noticed there is a delay when playing flash animations.

  • Imac performance and popcorn sound?

    Hello!
I work in graphic design and I have used macs for 20 years. I have always favoured Mac to the PC, however my last three (two at home and one at work) macs have been dreadful to work on, especially my latest Imac 27 inch. I'll try to keep this short, but my Imac keeps making a popcorn sound, and when I am using slightly larger files, or using more applications (photoshop, etc) the noise won't stop. Not only is this really anoying, but the perfomance of the machine is rubbish also.. its just seems to be "towing its nuts off" and making popcorn sounds every time I work on it.
Recently I have been freelancing and the place I'm working use PC's.. now.. I have never been a fan of PC's, but the PC at work cost around £600 and it totally blows my Apple out of the water (which cost me £1650). Has any one else had this popcorn sound and  performance problems with their Imac? And if so is there a way to remedy the problem? Or this a production flaw?  I have always been Hard Core Apple (no pun intended), but lately I am starting to feel a bit let down by these products.. Unfortunately my warranty has run out now and I may have to buy another if this can't be sorted. If my next machine doesnt work properly I will have to migrate to PC. I never thought I'd say that. .. but it's really winding me up paying a lot of money for Apple products that don't work right. Any advice, or feedback would be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chris

    Rafael,
I don't have any experience with sound editing, but I've found that Final Cut Express works just fine on my iMac G5 with 2 gigs of ram. I'm no pro, but for editing home movies shot with a Canon Optura 60 everything works great. I have just ordered an external firewire drive for backups and digital video storage, so that might let FCE run even better!
    Have Fun,
    Eric.
PS. The 20" screen looks great, and is highly recommended.
