Is everyone having problems after installing 10.4.9?

I just switched to a MAC several months ago after having Windows based machines for 20 years. Made the switch just to avoid the same problems I had with Windows, problems with software updates. I installed 10.4.9 last night and all of the sudden AOL stopped working. I used the Activity monitor to help me unfreeeze the AOL uploading and it appears to work now. Now my Mail no longer works. Also Safari has begun to continually crash. Had to restart numerous times to get to forum to paste this. Help! Is this a common problem with Apples, should we avoid doing software updates?

Is everyone having problems? Certainly not. I manage over forty systems, all of them upgraded to 10.4.9, and not one of them is having a problem. So your problem is by no means universal, at least.
The first thing to do is to boot your system from the 10.4 install disk, run Disk Utility, and have it verify the disk and the permissions and repair if necessary.
If no problems are shown by Disk Utility, you might try downloading the Combo update, if you can, and applying that. Sometimes the incremental upgrader can exascerbate problems with corrupted files; in such cases, the Combo updater sometimes fixes the problem.
Failing that, reinstalling 10.4 (use the Archive and Install option) and then performing the upgrade might fix the problem. Again, sometimes an update can magnify or bring up a pre-existing problem, or sometimes and update just goes wrong.

Menu differences
Preferences (CMD+K) are found on the Photoshop menu on a Mac, at the bottom of the Edit menu on a PC, and the shortcut is (CTRL+K).

I bought a new sim card today at the t-mobile shop and they activated the card just by putting credit on, i got home put the sim in the iphone and still got the same message. I have restored and shut down I dont know how many times and updated itunes, I am wishing i had said no to updating the phone as i have no iphone to use and apple say i should go to an apple shop.

hmmm well now ia around 2am here in singapore..
no choice, i need to setup new computer for my friend , yet i have not settle my own one first...
so i just cant wait and i take allthe tools out, and modify the L11 bridge to 1.7 volt by default...
and guess what? when i set to 166 fsb , it manage to boot up normally without using the reset button , i think 20 out of 20 times that i have tried
i am just suspecting why if the default voltage work so good while if i modify the voltage to non hw default, my pc will not boot up without the a press on the reset button .... , hmm i wonder is it bios problem or the board itself ?(
another thing is , my pc wont be stable at first, then i plug in the 4pin 12volt plug onto the board, and it boot up fine and running win Xp at 11.5 x170 now : )

ohh its because if i alter the voltage through the bios, it wont boot up normally , just like what others complaining about , it wont boot up when u press the power button , but after u pressed the reset button , it will boot up if u a re lucky , sometimes i have to press more than 20 times of reset in order to have it boot up
so i doubt that this msi board do have some flaw in terms of Vcore voltage management.
its like if u pull out the power chord( which means your comp lose power completely) then u put it back and u push the power button , it wont boot up , the D Bracket will get stuck at random order sometimes cpu faulty and mostly its memory checking hang.....
so in order to overclock my cpu without altering the BIOS vCore, i can only mod the athlon chip :P
ohh dont worry about the bump, last few days i set up a pc for my friend , its a new chip , same to have kinda a thick black line on one side of the cpu DIE, i think its normal one

but among all the user having boot problem i have seen in their specs having antec power supply, and corsair memory? so i dont think thats the main problem , i still suspect the way this board work out with the bios Vcore setting :P

Who can answer all my shuffle problems?

i got the ipod shuffle 1gb version for christmas, and it all seemed to work just fine. i used it with my ibook a few times - transfered some songs to it, listened to it, and just left it for a couple of days on a table, switched off.
then, when i tried to turn it on a play some songs again, it just started blinking the orange/green error combination. (the key lock is not on). it wont play any songs, and when i connect it to my ibook usb (i've tried both ports), it wont appear anywhere! not on the desktop, and not in itunes. i've also tried different emacs, and two pcs.
it just keeps blinking orange till i remove it. it had not been faulty removed before this - i always click the "release/eject" sign first, and wait for it to be ready.
well, i returned it to apple, and got a new one. i put it in the usb, and it worked fine. transfered the songs again, and tried it last night. it played the songs just fine. then i turned it off, and left it till i woke up this morning. i'd been looking forward to listen to music on the bus again, but guess what! the same problem has returned - ipod shuffle is, once again, not working!
just to mention it, i've tried all the steps and solutions on the apple support site, and i've also searched different forums. i hope theres someone out there who can help me with this problem, cause it REALLY annoys me.
i run osx 10.4.4 on an ibook g4, and have the newest version of itunes. theres no use in downloading a ipod update, since it wont find my ipod.

I also bought a Shuffle at Christmas time and I have the same problem (blinking intermitent orange / green light and iPod invisible in Finder, iTunes, etc). It worked at first but it stopped working right after I uploaded a new playlist. Like Alejandro, I bought mine in North America (Canada) but am now in Africa so I cannot exchange the iPod.

Bridge memory issues causing everyone's problems? Maybe???

After opening files Camera Raw files in Photoshop CS3, through the Bridge 2.1.1.9 interface on a MacBook Pro with all the latest updates to Tiger, and editing them, then setting the star rating below the thumbnail, going into File Info and enter all my data, and return to the file thumbnail to click on it to create a dng file, it takes away my ratings... this is sign... I've found that when this happens the next thing is that the preview window shows an odd looking version of my photo and when I open it up and look at the raw settings sure enough, it's applied some setting from a previous session over the top of my work!
This has only been happening recently, so I upgraded my version of Camera Raw to the latest 4.5. Didn't solve anything.
So in reading all the other complaints about Bridge CS3, of which I've had none, I am wondering if there isn't an overriding problem that causes MOST of these, and it just manifests differently on different configurations.
Is there a way to increase memory allocation to Bridge? I've compacted the cache, and that didn't solve my issues. I have the cache set to the mid point... the language is very confusing on it...smaller cache equals better performance (define better). Could this setting solve my issue?

Answer to no audio problem!!!

Ok, I figured out a way to get around this. Import your iMovie file into a quicktime movie, then use that in your iDVD project. This retains both the audio in the iMovie file and also the chapter markers.

I also experience no sound when working with imovie/iDVD. I rectify this problem by going through a litany of adjustments such as: Going to system preferences and uncheck the mute button; Going to Imovie pref. and uncheck audio passthrough box; Going to the upper right pulldown
and moving the sound level button up; Disconnecting the Fire Wire after exporting to tape; Quit/open imovie: Repair permissions; Run DiskWarrior, and some other adjustments I can't recall just now. I just keep trying things until it comes back. Why it does this I can't explain.

Maybe an Answer to most iPod problems.

I've been working with my iPod G5 ("first edition") since iTunes 7 came out. I had an mac formatter iPod and I wanted to make it a windows iPod. So I download iTunes 7 and try to do it. Went a whole night in the state "Restoring your iPod" and still didn't help. I've change everything from USB cable to iTunes 6.0.5 and so and so....still nothing...
After 4 days, I decide to do something alittle be drastic. I put it on my g/f iTunes on her PC, with iTunes 6.0.5 , which on my own pc didn't want to work. So on her iTunes and Restore it to a windows iPod. Update it to 1.1.2 (NOT 1.2) so it worked fine on her PC. So I thought why not on my pc. Came back NOTHING not with iTunes 7 NOR iTunes 6.0.5. So I thought this is strange. So I keep fighting with it.
Well this morning I realised, when I connect my iPod to her pc, my iPod drive letter was J: and on my pc NOT. so I say, why not assign another drive letter. (I had C:, reason to long to explain) so assign the letter I: and it worked. Not I can do everything on my iTunes...
so maybe that is a problem you guys most are having,
TRY TO CHANGE OR ASSIGN A NEW DRIVE LETTER TO YOU iPOD.
NOT ONLY I:...try the letters after I: too see what happens..

To assign a drive letter
Right lick on "my computer" click on "manage" from the right click menu. There choose from the left-side handed options
choose "Disk Management" and there let it refresh and gets all disk device, and your iPod will also be there (with you iPods name or old drive letter. Right click on you iPod drive and choose Change Drive letter and Paths.
BE SURE YOU DON"T CHANGE YOU C: Drive (or where windows is installed)!

Why is no one giving answers to the following problem?

It seems that there are a few of us who have asked a very similar question and no one is giving us an answer to issues when trying to download a PDF file.
I get the following message: "AdobePDFVIEWER cannot find a compatible Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader to view this PDF. Please select one."
I have both Adobe Reader 7.0.8 and 9.2 installed. When I open either application window, the applications are greyed out. I am on a MacbookPro laptop, OSX 10.4.11 and it happens on the G4 desktop computer too. The browser is the latest Safari.
I notice others with this same problem are using Windows and/or Firefox. Can we please have some answers to the problem?
In AUGUST, one person suggested going to the Help File and downloading a missing plugin. OK. Did that and get this message:
"No missing components detected. Repairs are not needed."

The Windows issue probably would have a differnt cause. Mostly you couldn't install two different versions of Reader on Windows but that's fine on a Mac.
What happens if you control>click on the link to the PDF file and choose "save file as", save it your hard drive and double click it? If double clicking doesn't work what exactly happens? Also try to open Reader first and use File>Open. Does that work?
If not, can you open the file in Preview?
Another thing to try would be going to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and remove the one that refers to Adobe Acrobat Reader. I believe it's /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/AdobePDFViewer.plugin

Audio Popping -- Searched the archives, no answer. NOT mp3 problem!

My client has a sony handycam DCR-SR47, and I'm working from home so she uploads the files to her server (the camera has a hard drive, no tape deck) and I take it from there. Since the files are in MPEG-2, I convert them to .dv using Visual Hub, but even though the raw .dv clips have no popping, the problems begin when I load them into a sequence in FCP.
The popping happens in the timeline, and also after I compress the timeline to a .mov file, too. The raw footage (MPEG-2 & converted .dv) are OK. In addition, there are no .mp3 files in the project. All my music files are .aif, and they're not the ones that are making the noise... It's the audio from the footage. When I import the .dv file to my FCP project, the audio makes a popping noise (similar to the one that mp3s make).
I'm thinking maybe it has something to do with the clip & sequence settings? The clips' audio have 48.0 KHz rates and the format is "32-bit Floating point." The sequence is set at 48 KHz, 16-bit depth, config: default, stereo output. Is it the 32-bit and 16-bit that don't match up, or do those two have nothing to do with each other? The settings on the sequence only allow 8-bit, 16-bit, and 24-bit. Also, another thing I noticed was that for some reason, when I bring the clips into the timeline, the pan is set to -1 as a default, and FCP won't let me edit the two audio tracks independently... It lumps them together as "Stereo (a1a2)," rather than the two separate tracks when you import DV footage from a camera. Hope this information is somewhat illustrative.
Any advice on how to get rid of this popping would be much appreciated! As I said before, I will send anyone interested a link to the video if you'd like to hear for yourself.

Why are you converting to .dv? Final Cut Pro works with .mov files.
Download a free copy of [MPEG Streamclip|http://www.squared5.com] and use it to directly convert the files to QuickTime .mov using the DV codec.
In MPEG Streamclip: File > Open Files. Choose your MPEG2.
If you are offered the option to fix data or timecode breaks, click on OK.
Then, File > Export to QuickTime. Click the codec list at the top and select DV. Set quality to 100%. Click on Make Movie. Choose a destination.

Make sure you are updating to the latest available firmware, which would be iOS 4.1.2. Attempting to restore only 4.1. can cause that error.

Answering phone call got problem!!

After I update my iphone 5 to IOS 7.0.2, many times when I answering a phone call, it will auto open speaker. How come it will be like this? Previous version it didn't happen this at all.

Not sure why it would do that. You can try resetting your device. Sometimes that will clear up odd behaviour (nothing will be lost):
Hold down the Home and Power buttons at the same time and continue to hold them down until the Silver Apple appears (up to 30 seconds). Once the Home screen comes back up, see if the problem is resolved.
