Antenna alignment

My hardware...
Cisco 1300 12.3
Cisco Command Referance states......
#dot dot11 antenna-alignment
Use the dot11 antenna-alignment privileged EXEC command to activate the antenna-alignment tool for an radio interface. Use this tool to test and align the access point antenna with another remote antenna.
dot11 interface-number antenna-alignment [timeout]
Examples
This example shows how to start the antenna-alignment test for radio interface 0:
AP# dot11 dot11radio 0 antenna-alignment
Issue:
AP1#dot dot11 0 ?
carrier Carrier detect test
linktest test the radio link
update-group-key Update Group Key
AP1#dot11 dot11Radio 0 antenna-alignment
^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
Why is the command not supported on my accesspoint?
Do i have to be in install mode?

I have my nonroot bridge in - wait for it - non root bridge mode, and when I run antenna-alignment I get the following:
NonRoot#dot11 dot11Radio 0 antenna-alignment
                           ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
Can you shed any light on why I cant run the command?  I am using Cisco 1200 G APs for root and nonroot.  See below screenclips:

  • What are the Cisco 1300 series Antenna Alignment options?

I am wondering if there are any options for aligning the antennas other than RSSI LED indications.  The cisco aironet is going to be on top of a 10m tower and the lights will not be visible. Is there any way to configure them to an audible output that would increase in loudness or pitch when the signal was strongest?

    Check this:-

  • Antenna alignmenet on Aironet 1252

    Hi,
I am using two Cisco Aironet 1252 (cisco AIR-AP1252AG-A-K9) to setup a point to point link (one is configured as root bridge and is as a non-root bridge). Both Aironets are running software version Version 12.4(25d)JA.
Is there a way that I can that I can perform an antenna alignment test on the Aironet that is configured as a non-root bridge?
note: executing the following command dot11 dot11radio 0 ? does not show the antenna-alignemnet option.
    Regards,
    Screech

.Now I am having problem having the devices associated . Is there any other way of testing why the devices are having problem associating to each other. Note in the root bridge I get an event that the root has reached the maximum packet retry send to the non-root bridge.
    Any idea.

  • Using Aironet AP as wireless monitor

    Hello,
we have purchased a couple of new Aironet APs for our office:
    AIR-AP1262N-E-K9
My objective is to use some of these as wireless monitors to scan the vicinity and to report the SSIDs and RSSI values of all detected APs.
Basically something similar to the Linux command: "iwlist wlan0 scan".
Periodically, I would like to transmit the scanning results to a central server (e.g. via SNMP) for monitoring the whole network area.
    How can I achieve this?
Are there built-in commands in the IOS to do this?
Or can I use Tcl scripts to perform this task?
    Any other ideas?
I have worked with Cisco routers and switches before but I am new to wireless devices. So any advice and idea is highly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
    Kind regards
    Daniel

I have found an interesting command for the antenna alignment:
“During the antenna alignment test, the radio disassociates from its parent, probes adjacent access points, and records the MAC address and signal strength of responses it receives. [...] You display the last 10 results using the show dot11 antenna-alignment command, which lists the MAC address and signal level for the access points that responded to the probe”
This would be exactly what I am looking for. Unfortunately, it is not possible to activate this as described in the user manual:
    AP#dot11 dot11radio 0 antenna-alignment
                                 ^
% Invalid input detected at '^' marker.
    AP#show dot11 antenna-alignment
No data, antenna-alignment command not run
The device is set to Access Point mode. Current firmware version is "C1260 Software (AP3G1-K9W7-M), Version 12.4(25d)JA1".
Does anybody have an idea why this command does not exist in this firmware? Does it only work with specific mode settings? Or might a firmware update to 15.2.2 help?
    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!

  • Troubleshooting Point to Multipoint Wireless Bridge

I have a customer which is a  Small RV Park that has Four 1242 Dual Band Access Points with external outdoor antennae.   All 4 APs are configured with a client SSID on the 802.11G radio, and an Infrastructure SSID on the 802.11A radio interface.   The A band is being used for wireless backhaul from the 3 remote APs to a central AP configured as a Root Bridge.   The 3 remote APs are non-root bridges on the A Radio interface.
There are separate antenna on each AP for the 2.4ghz and the 5ghz bands.  Directional patch antennae are on the remote APs on the A band pointing to an 5ghz Omni on the Root Bridge.  On the 2.4ghz band that the client PCs use, their are either Omni or 180 degree patch antenna on those interfaces.
The issue I am having is keeping all three 802.11A back haul links up at the same time for an extended period.   I moved some of the 1242 APs in the park to get better client coverage, and all three remote radios worked with the backhaul link working at 54mbps.  Then I started having issues with one radio dropping its backhaul link, while the other two remotes worked perfectly.  Then a second AP backhaul link failed.   I was then able to reconnect the radio I was initially having issues with changing the root bridge channel selection from manual to DFS.
The Second remote AP still has not reconnected, but remote APs 1 an 3 are still up.  I have checked the antenna alignment visually, and checked the connectors.   Even swapped out a spare AP.  All 1242s are running the last software version put out for that model.
Any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this?  When I do a shut/no shut on the dot11radio1 interface, I get a console message that it finds no radio to associate.  The Infrastructure SSID has no security on it and open authentication.  This is just for free internet access to anyone in the RV Park.

For the point to multipoint configuration follow the steps as per URL which may help you :

  • Aironet 1310 interface dot11 0 stuck in reset

Hi trying to connect two APs with one being root and the other non root. After configuring, the wireless interface on the non root remains stuck
int reset mode. Below is the error message i get and have tried and cant find out what the problem is.
%DOT11-4-CANT_ASSOC: Interface Dot11Radio0, cannot associate: No Response
    Will appreciate any help. thanks

As per dmantill mention once we have a 1310 in root bridge and the other one in non root bridge the non root bridge will not enable the radio until it sees a good signal from the root bridge and its status will be reset down.
Remember that we have 2 types of 1310 the ones with build in antennas and the ones with no build in antenna and require and external antenna connected to it.
To know if your unit has a build in antenna or not the part number will not include a (-R) if it has a (–R) it means that the unit does not have a build in antenna.
Also remember that when we work with bridges we need to set them in install mode (install root bridge and install non root bridge)this mode will only allow the units to associate to each other and not pass traffic and the led’s on the back of the unit will stop works as usual and help us for antenna alignment between the units.
Here is the link that lets us know what each sequence we get on the leds once in install mode to know how god the antenna aliment or signal is.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/1300/installation/guide/130h_c3.html#wp1056656
Also remember that when working with bridges by defaults the units are set to work at full power and this would create 2 scenarios.
For example, if the units are able to cover up to 5km with full power if the distance between the units is more than 5 km then they will not be able connect and if the distance is shorter than 5 km let’s say 1 km and we leave the units at full power there is going to be too much interface and signal to noise on the connection due to the short distance between the units and at the end this could make the units not see a good signal between them.
For instance lets say we are on a football field and each of us is on a touchdown side and for us to be able to hear each other we need to scream to each other, but if we then walk to the center of the field and we keeping screaming we are going to hear ourselves but we will not be able to understand what we are saying to each other and we will need to lower our voice.
Here is the outdoor range calculation utility to check what is the exact distance we can cover with a unit and at an specific data rate.

  • Unable to decrease response time

    hi to all
I am stuck in a problem, we have a aironet 1300 with yagi antenna we get the response but it was very hi i.e 1500 msec
Can any body tell me wat can i do to decrease the response time
    Thanks

As u stated that when u changed the direction of the antenna , you got a better respose time that means the better alignment is required ..
Okay let me know how you do the alignement ?
Do you use some software or just a manual one .I would say try to use some real time softaware that give you RSSI and Link quality values so that we can align the antenna as per link quality parameters.
Pinging with some bytes not always give's you correct quality of link that is estabilished between receiver and transmitter radio's.
I will give you a example.
Suppose we aligned the antennas and we tried to ping the other radio with 32 bytes and got 3 msec as latency.lets say we did 30% of the best alignment that we could have acheived. Now with 100% correct alignment suppose we could have acheived 10mbps throughput and with 30% it must be 3 mbps atleast.so pinging with 32bytes of data won't make much sense in latency.
So my recommendation is to use some 3rd party software for calculating the link quality achieved while doing antenna alignment.
Try to get a good link quality and response time will automatically become better.
And after replacing the antenna as you said ,the ping is coming that means the problem is not with RF part.

  • BR1310 with 12.3(4)JA write erase

After a write erase and a reload my Bridge boots up as an AP with the DOT110 radio shutdown and no ssid?
    is this normal?
    regards Bernhard

Yes thats right. i saw it in the release notes. but when i upgrade the bridge and set it back to default the antenna alignement doesnt work anymore bc there is no ssid and the interface is shut. so thats not really a good "security feature".
can somebody from cisco answer that?

  • 1532E bridge setup with ANT5114

We are looking for help from someone with good knowledge of setting up bridges using 1532s.
We are trying to setup a bridge pair using 1532E's on both sides with antenna:  AIR-ANT5114P2M-N on both sides.  We have converted both 1532E's to iOS.
After configuring and physically installing both sides with antennas aligned in a clear visual line-of-sight, we do establish a link.  However, the signal on both ends is awful and reading about -90.  The distance is only about 1500 feet between the 2 sides.
    Questions:
    1.  From the AP, we have antenna cables connected to the bottom ports 1 and 2 going a few feet up to the 5114-antenna.  Does it matter if the antenna port A has its cable going to the 1532 port 1 or 2?  Same thing for port B on the antenna...does it matter if its cable goes to 1532 port 1 or 2?  Would that cause the signal to weaken?
    2.  We have configured the root side for 5GHz channel 161.  As stated, we are using the bottom antenna ports 1 and 2 to provide dual-band coverage for the bridge link and wireless clients.  Would using ports 3 and 4 on top help increase the signal or selecting a different channel help increase the signal?
    3.  We never changed the antenna band mode.  I just read about it after we completed the install, but I am not finding anything on how to verify or configure antenna band mode using iOS on the 1532s.  Is there any related configuration that would help increase the signal?
thanks in advance for your help.

Make sure you configure the unit for single band.  Also, your using the wrong ports:)
    AP1532E (External Antenna)
The 1532E access point is equipped with four N-type RF connectors. The 1532E can be configured via software to support dual band or single band antennas. When configured for dual band antennas, antenna ports 1 and 2 on the bottom of the unit (Figure 1-2) are used to support multiple input/multiple output (MIMO) operation on both 2.4 and 5 GHz radios. When using the Cisco Aironet AIR-ANT2547V-N or AIR-ANT2547VG-N omindirectional antennas, the antenna can be connected directly to the access point (Figure 2-16). If the antennas are remotely located, an appropriate low loss RF cable should be used.
Note Ensure that the antenna band mode is configured before the 1532E access point is installed.
When configured for single band antennas, antenna port 1 and antenna port 2 support MIMO operation for the 2.4 GHz radio, and antenna ports 3 and 4 (Figure 1-3) support MIMO on the 5 GHz radio. See the Cisco Wireless LAN Controller Configuration Guide for information on the software configuration.

  • ACCESS POINT 1300 intermitent fails

i got two Access point 1300, 1 like root and another like non-root, the bug is the next ( no parent longer valid deauthentication client xxxx.xxxx.xxxx) and the devices lost the connection every 10 min aprox... any comments about is really helpfully all the informations that you can supply for me.

If there is a mismatch in the authentication parameters on the AP and the client, the authentication fails. Check if the authentication parameters are configured correctly on the AP and the client.
Antenna alignment directly relates to the proper LoS between the two bridges. If the antenna is not properly aligned, the RF signals cannot reach the endpoints and authentication fails. Always ensure that the antennas are properly aligned.

  • Interference issues

I have set up a WRT54G and WAP54G as a repeater (as per linksys answer 231 and 4200).  These units are 1300 feet apart.  I am using identical circular polarizing antennas on one of the antenna connections to the units.
I have only a few trees within the line of sight which is why I used circular polarizing antennas.  There is also one residence between the antennas.  The straight line path between the antenna is about 6 feet over the residence.  I believe I have an interference issue.
I have experience great connectivity at times, but have no connection at other times. I have experimented with observing the pings between the units and at times will seldom miss a ping.  At other times, I cannot get a ping to hit.  I have tried various channels without any different success.
I do not know whether the neighbor is creating an interference or whether the antennas may pick up other signals in the background.  I also have wireless broadband service which their radios are close to similar antenna alignment, but I would think they operate at 5 mgH and if they interfered, then it would be continuous interference.  There are some other businesses located at some distance behind my antennas.  I don't think it is the trees, as I have great connections that last for long periods of time.  There is no set pattern to when I have connections. Sometimes, I connect during daylight hours and evening hours, but generally early morning hours (12am-8 am) are the best.
    Any suggestions?

Try changing the wireless settings on the router
    channel - either 1 or 11
    beacon interval - 50
fragmentation and RTS threshold - 2304
also ensure that both the devices have latest firmware....

  • ICal Week view, Date is not aligned with the Time(schedule) of each date

Well, just like it says over there (`` ). I've recently been to China for a business trip, and I suppose the different time zone may have had something to do with the problem. Now I'm back home, changed the time zone back to normal, still the iCal shows in the weekly view that the Date on the above is not aligning with the Time and schedule. Any suggetions would be grateful!!!

    Hi,
i omit the scheduling maergin key in material master,
    the result of MRP is
    BASIC DATES
    Finish 15.10.2009
    Start 14.10.2009
    PRODUCTION DATES
    15.02.2010 14:33:25
    14.10.2009 07:00:00
scheduling type i planned order is still "backwards"
so in MD04 it is say that the goods is available at 15.10.2009 same with requirement dates.
    this seem not right.
it seems that order finish date is not adjusted by lead time scheduling on "today scheduling".
Is there a way so order finish date is adjusted by lead time scheduling on "today scheduling" ????

  • HP Officejet Pro 8500 Premier prints only in black/MAC USER & won't align?

PROBLEM # 1) I've replaced all my ink cartridges, but can't find out why my printer is now only printing in black? I'm a MAC user, so I want to print in color, and am trying to find instructions for a MAC on how to get back to printing in color?
    ACTION TAKEN #1
UPDATE: I've done a three level cleaning of the printer heads, which DOES print in color and each color block now looks great.  The printer heads were not printing any color blocks, but the pink color block,  until the first third level cleaning. I then cleaned the printer heads a second time all the way through the third level.
RESULT: However when I print from any document/web page my printer only still prints in black & white after these two printer adjustments double three stage printer cartridge claening?
     ACTION TAKEN #2
    I found this very detailed report and video on cleaning printer heads, alignment issues, and calibrate line feeds;
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c01624398&lc=en&product=3964986&tmp...
The Print Quality Diagnostics Page looks perfect (including the alignment section)  in all 3 test patterns, and again prints in color.
RESULT: However, my printer still will not print in color after trying all these steps?
IPROBLEM #2)I  've also tried a align printer which also prints in color,  but states, "alignment failed see documentation manual"? To make the situation more complicated the alignment page looks perfect  and prints in color before the error message displays.
After puling the power cord  twice while ON  and wiating 20 seconds, as discussed in the above link. my printer "won't remove the, "align  error message see diagnostics manual".
RESULT: Printer "won't remove the, "align  error message see diagnostics manual", even though the Printer Diagnostic Pages looks great, and the alignment page as well.
I'm operating a lastest version Macbook Air laptop OS X 10.9.4. I have not upgraded to a new operating system since this problem started a week ago, and Ive owned this HP Printer for 2 years.
UPDATE: ISSUE SOLVED. Well you can imagine when I say that I spent about 2 hours on this yesterday that yea he's right. This took a long time to research and try all these solutions. I told my wife about the issue and had her try:
ACTION TAKEN #3: Print a page from a second computer. Windows laptop printed a colored page from a web site.
SOLUTION: (Printing only in Black Color): Wife literally solved the problem in 3 minutes!
Look below at the presets drop-down arrow tab, which is right below the printer name: You will see PLAIN PAPER, FAST DRAFT, BLACK AN(D WHITE). I'm not sure how I checked this, but this is how you can print only in black ink. NOTE: I looked at dozens of answers across the web, and didn't find this info anywhere else!
This screen shot show you what the setting should be if you want to print in fast draft mode to use the least amount of color ink.

    Hi monkplayer,
It looks like your problem is solved? There wasn't a problem with the printer itself, just the printer settings on your Mac?
This is good information though. We don't always have detailed solutions for customers that are using Safari, since it is hard to write instructions for the general public with specific steps for each operating system.
    Best of luck,

  • WRT54G V7 Left antenna output is not working.

    Hi,
I had a new WRT54G V7 and discoverd that the left antenna (facing the front of the device) is giving no output. The right-hand version is working properly.
Now I received a RMA and it is still the same! Already upgraded to v7.00.1, but without success.
I know that I have to use both antennas, but if one of them is giving no output, what is the point?
    Anyone the same experience?
    Thanks and regards,

Hi, before configuring the router I removed both antennas to prevent getting access from or to another device.
After configuration I placed only one antenna, went one floor down to check connection with my laptop and was surprised that the laptop could not find the router.
Took the laptop upstairs, placed it nearby the router and got a connection. Walking away with the laptop showed me that the signal was very poor (lost connection in the next room, seperated by a brickwall).
Then I swapped the antenna to the right-hand connector and saw a very strong signal, also downstrairs. (My previous router, a WRT54G v2.0 did give the same strength on both antennas).
I use the original firmware, so I cannot see  or change anything (at least I do not know how) to adapt antenna settings. Or is there a hidden field that I do not know of?

  • TS1702 When I update to IOS6 on my 4S Facebook does not work properly, the news feed never updates it only says no new storeys and shows a picture of an antenna. When I reset my phone and go back to IOS5 Facebook works fine. What's up with IOS6 ????

When I update my iPhone 4S to iOS six Facebook does not work properly the newsfeed doesn't load properly and I can never see what's going on all I see is a picture of an antenna and a little thing underneath it says no new stories when I reset my phone back to iOS 5 then it works just fine and I don't have any issues so there must be something wrong with iOS six that isn't letting Facebook load properly

No I did not use any unauthorized methods for anything, I simply reset my phone back to factory.
