Antenna mounting question - AIR-ANT2506

I was told by a wifi tech that the "pipe bomb" antenna [air-ant2506] should be installed upside down when installing inside a building, ie warehouse.
When I go to the hardware installation page for the antenna, Cisco makes no statement regarding this....they clearly show the antenna with the metal end at the bottom, not top.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/antenna/installation/guide/ant2506.html
Ultimately does it really matter which end is up if you are mounting inside? Just as long as it's vertical correct?

You are right.... as long as they are verticle you should not have any issues. The reason why they might ask you to face it downward is due to code in some area's..... code sometimes states that there will not be any objects facing upward.... just in case someone falls. So it is more of a safety aspect.

  • External Antenna Mount for AIR-ANT5160NP-R

I about to embark on a project to create a wireless bridge using a pair of Cisco Aironet 1252's, which will be mounted internally, and a pair of Cisco Aironet 5-GHz MIMO 6-dBi Patch Antenna (AIR-ANT5160NP-R), which will be mounted externally.
Could anyone suggest the best way to mount the antenna? Both will be mounted to steel upper wall of the building (its brick below this). I couldn't find any specific mounting kits.

My bad on the metal wall mounting, it was late and I was tired.
Now  that I have slept some here is what I am thinking.  Why use the MIMO  patch antenna?  On such a short link you can use an omni stick.  Then  mount this to a wall mount antenna bracket such as this -  http://www.google.com/products/catalog?q=wall+mount+antenna+brackets&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&cid=6140961992914474386&ei=NCXlTKHiIYKglAfVw6XjCw&sa=X&oi=product_catalog_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CC8Q8wIwAA#
You  would only need one bracket for each location and can secure the  bracket to the metal wall with either large self tapping screws or using  butterfly bolts.
If you are worried about your  signal propogation then make sure your link is encrypted with AES and  that your power is at minimum to establish the 54M link.
I would use the AIR-ANT5160V-R antenna.

  • AIR-ANT2506 ... Can it be mounted up-side-down?

    Hi,
Just wondering if I'd lose any signal strength if I was to mount the AIR-ANT2506 in the up-side-down position.
The reason I want to do this is that currently we have an AIR-ANT2506 mounted to the side of an outdoor enclosure, where it sits raised above the enclosure. But I feel that the enclosure is mounted a bit too high, so I thought about mounting the antenna in the 'hanging' position from the enclosure to lower the position of the antenna.
Can the AIR-ANT2506 be mounted in this way without any consequence?

    Hi David,
    The 2506 can be mounted in an inverted position but you do run the risk of it filling up with water if exposed to moisture;

  • AIR-ANT2506 External Antenna Coverage Range

I've got an AIR-ANT2506 external antenna mounted on the side of a metal building.  Hand-held Teklogix scanners connect to the AP and scan material outside.  What kind of coverage range can I expect from the AP?  Also, what's the recommended height for the AP to be mounted?

I've got an AIR-ANT2506 external antenna mounted on the side of a metal building.
Oh nuts.  This is not gonna sound good.
The ANT2506 is a 2.4Ghz omni-directional antenna.  If you point the antenna to your face, for instance, the signal is a near perfect circle, however, pair this with "the side of a metal building" and you've just literally turned an omni-directional antenna to a directional antenna.
Also, what's the recommended height for the AP to be mounted?
Maximum height is 10 feet.  Make sure your antenna has clear line-of-sight.  Any metalic or concrete obstruction can disperse the wireless signal.

  • AIR-ANT2506 problem

i have AIR-ANT2506 installed on ap's for outside and it seems as though i am loosing signal strentgh on them when i investigate the ant is filling up with water due to the lip that is on them. is there a model better suited for my needs.

that is probably why they collected water, antennas are designed to be installed with the cable exiting the bottom. there is no drain hole when they are mounted inverted.
when used indoors you would mount them inverted but outdoors right side up.

  • Cisco AIR-ANT2506 Compatibility

    Hi,
I need an omni antenna with the specifications of AIR-ANT2506 for a Lighweight AP 1242 for outdoor installation. The AP is compatible with the antenna, but the description of the antenna says that it is a 2.4 GHz Bridge Antenna. Does this mean that it is not suitable or even unusable for ordinary Lighweight implementation, but only for Bridge installations. I should cover an area around the entrance of a store...
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

I am trying to get internet into a number of properties on an estate. I am not sure of the best solution as we are also quite remote / rural, hence why we have a satellite internet set up and not using internet through a telephone exchange as we are too far away from it.
I am looking for the cheapest solution, and am happy to have the properties hard wired laying ethernet cable to each property, but if I can achieve internet in each property with wireless then that is probably a better solution.
I have attached a birds eye view diagram of the properties, showing where the current satellite modem is located, and where the antenna is mounted (It is about 1 metre above the roof line, but on each property the roofing is corrugated iron)
I have line of site with the antenna to at least 3 of the properties (Crag house, Sams, The Bothy and probably The Barn & maybe just about Oak)
I therefore need internet access internally in these properties. I do, as a separate project and if possible, a property 1.2miles across a loch that we have line of site with that if possible we would like internet to be broadcast across there, but the first port is to get the properties on the estate hooked up with wireless.
If you have any suggestions of what Access Points would work, they do not have to be whizzbang because we only have broadband speed currently of 512k, upscalable to 3MB.
I also do not understand how being able to run 50-100ft coax cable from the antenna to the AP works, when I was told that for every 10ft of cable, you lose about 2dBi from the antenna, is this true??
I have just attached a photo of 2 antennas on the corner of the white building (1 is the AIR-ANT2506, the other taller one is an itellite 12dBi antenna which I haven't yet tried)
You can see the white building to the left that needs to be wireless, the building in the middle of the picture, and the 2 just to the right of this building. There is a further one behind the grass you see in the middle of the picture, and a final property that isn't in the picture, but if you look at the excel spreadsheet you should be able to work out the buildings)

  • Cisco AIR-ANT2506

    Hi everybody
I have a question about  installing a wireless solution with the AIR-ANT2506 connected to the acces point 1242AG-A-K9 (LWAPP) and the goal is register the ap to the controller 2504.
This antenna is supported by the controller?
    Thanks.

In general, the WLC does not care what type of antenna you use with the AP, so long as they can connect.  The
AIR-ANT2506, is a RP-TNC connector which works on the 1242.
Keep in mind, that under the AP Radio config for 2.4, you'll want to specify the dBi values for the antenna, so that RRM can be calculated correctly.

  • AIR-ANT2506

    Hi,
I have installed an access-point 1242 and for arise signal I have installed also antenna AIR-ANT2506 instead of AIR-ANT4941.
Have to I modify some parameter on configuration ?
    best regards
    Lorezo

    Hi Lorenzo,
    You probably want to set the Left or Right Primary (I'm not on site right now so I can't see or remember) and take the setting out of Diversity;
Use the antenna configuration interface command to configure the radio receive or transmit antenna settings. Use the no form of this command to reset the receive antenna to defaults.
    [no] antenna {receive | transmit} {diversity | left | right}
    Syntax Description
    receive
Specifies the antenna that the access uses to receive radio signals
    transmit
Specifies the antenna that the access uses to transmit radio signals
    diversity
Specifies the antenna with the best signal
    left
    Specifies the left antenna
    right
    Specifies the right antenna
    Defaults
The default antenna configuration is diversity
    Examples
This example shows how to specify the right receive antenna option:
    AP(config-if)# antenna receive right
This example shows how to set the receive antenna option to defaults:
    AP(config-if)# no antenna receive

    Dear all Gurus,
We are going to implement Oracle EBS r12, for industrial concern, we have following quires if any peer may suggest.
    1) we heard the oracle R12 has build new release with 11g db , is it been practical for choosing it for corporate ???
    2) Linux Read hat which version is more stable like 5 releases is compatible with R12 new release?
    3) We are also thinking for 64 bit architecture rather than 32 bit, could any one figure out the practical pros and cons for this.
    4) We are also wondering about the server machine brand and its configurations like HP DL380 G6, DELL 2850? could any one share abut his experience about the same.
    5) What sort of Server configurations (Processor , 2way -4way , RAM , HD and other accessories ) for r12 Multi node setup for 150 clients (DB Server , Apps Server , Test Prod )
    6) What should be backup strategies like tap backup and how much space requirements we must have provisioned for retaining almost 2~3 month backup.
    7) Application implementations methodologies?
    8)
I know to address our queries would be time consuming for you bust peoples , but I would really oblige for being shared your journey this would defiantly the PATH way for other like mentoring for others.

  • Does AIR-ANT2506 Ship with A Mast Mounting Kit?

Does the antenna ship with a Mast Mounting Kit or does that have to be ordered separately? If a separate kit is required, what's the part number?

It comes with one.... take a look at the one that it comes with and see if that will work for you.

If you need something different, Sparco Technologies can custom make a mount for you. They also have different type of mounts.

  • Antenna gain question

We have a 1242 AP and an ANT2506 external antenna. From what I've read I want to use a gain value of 10 for this antenna. However, there will be a 50 ft cable (AIR-CAB050LL) between antenna and access point. Do we need to adjust the gain setting for the cable?

  • Wireless Antenna Selection question

    Hi guys,
We recently installed (12) 3702e's with 2524 dipole antenna's in a 100,000 sq ft warehouse.  AP's run off of a 5508 controller and are Lightweight.
Key things to consider: These AP's are mounted about 32 feet in the air on the ceiling.  We need the signal to reach the floor and cover a fairly wide range.  That said, we have racks that reach up to about 5 feet from the ceilng and contain pallets with boxes on them.
We have folks with scanners on the ground that will be using the wireless.  Do these antenna's sound like they are the proper type of antenna being the AP's are 32 ft from the floor and need the signal to reach the floor?
Reason I ask, We are seeing our Cisco Wireless controller reduce the TX power levels on the AP's to 7 or 8.  I believe the power levels are dropping because the AP's are within a couple hundred feet of each other and have nearly direct line of site.  My theory is that they reduce power based of of that to prevent co-channel interference.  The issue is, if we spread them out more to get higher TX levels, we potentially lose Horizontal distance on the floor.
Is my thinking correct?  Should we be using a different type of Antenna?  See attached map to get a glimpse of what we look like.

  • Disc image and mounting question .

Disc utility - file - new > blank disc image . Save as ( so so ) . Volume name (so so ) . Volume size (4.5 gb dvd-r/dvd-ram. ) . Volume format ( mac os extended journal ) . Encryption ( none ) . Partition (cd dvd ) Image format ( spars bundle disc image )
I do this and I get two icons on desk top . One looks like the hard drive symbol and will say so so .sparsebundle . Then under it is an icon that looks like an external cd player or the like . And will say the image name under it .
When I open the image icon and put my files into it I close it and burn it to dvd . After it is finished I try to open it and it says it cant be mounted . So I tried the hard drive looking one just above it and nothing . So I could eject the icons but not the dvd . She says I should try closing application and try again . Cant find anything to close so I restart and can eject the dvd then . I put it back in and same thing so I restart and get it back out . Now I start all over a new and just before I burn I leave the folder open and click edit select all the file the burn selected items to disc and vwula every thing
    s ok .
Now after you have read all this , my question is (1) What is the top icon for ?
    (2) Is this normal ?
    (3) Can I keep asking questions like this to learn my mac . I do search the forums and they are quite helpful Thank you for your time .

    Plymouth Horizon,
I will do my best, First Why are you making a sparse image and then burning? To Me this seems like extra work. What you can do is make a Burn Folder, add the things you want burned and then burn it. It will add Icons for the stuff in it with an alias Icon but it will burn the file not just an alias. I personally only use the images when I want to secure something with a password, or store files I've downloaded.
I would say that its normal, in the case that your making the image on your desktop. The reason you have the two 'Icons' is one is the image and the other is the mount of the image. Think you downloaded a .dmg file you have the file in your downloads folder and the icon on your desktop, you trash them both to get rid of.
And you are more then welcome to keep asking questions here, that is what these forums are for.
    Hope that helps,
    Weston

  • Firewire drive mounting question

I have a portable firewire 800 drive I just purchased. I am using for live capture of video. Yesterday I set up for a shoot about 10min before start of show. Plugged in drive but it did not mount. I could hear and feel the drive spinning but it did not show up. I have a expresscard two slot 800 ports. Tried it through expresscard and computer 800 slot. I did a repair permission and it still did not mount. Restarted also. Powered off, unplugged it, no go. Unplugged again and it showed up.
My question, is there steps for trouble shooting mounting problems? I had to use tape for about ten minutes.

Repair permissions won't be a help. Sounds like a marginal FW drive - who made it?

  • 7410 - NFS mount question

    Good afternoon,
I have a very large NFS share created on my 7410 system. I have no difficulty in mounting the share on my clients. (which is actually the problem).
In a Solaris environment, you can do: "share -F nfs -o rw=thatnode /mountpoint" and the /mountpoint will be shared out via NFS, but only the node whose name is "thatnode" can mount that NFS share.
I see some very vague references in the 7410 documentation on this, and in particular in the release notes for the Q3 upgrade to the 7410 firmware - but I have yet to find this functionality thoroughly documented.
So the question is: how do i restrict the node (or nodes) that can mount the NFS file system on my 7410?
Thanks you and have a great evening,
    Howard

    In the Shares configuration:
select a project or file system to edit
    and choose the "Protocols" page.
There will be an "NFS Exceptions" option you can use to configure host level access (RO or RW) and root access to the file system or project.
This sets a property on the file system:
    sharenfs = rw,root=mickey.mydomain.com
This property can also be "set" via the CLI interface.
