Anti-aliasing with CS5 and Blackmagic Multibridge Pro

To anyone else using a Blackmagic Multibridge Pro card:
I am experiencing bad aliasing on scaled video in a Blackmagic Adobe  Premiere timeline.
With Adobe Premiere's GPU acceleration turned on, scaled video looks  great, but the GPU setting introuces too many other bugs to be reliable  (unpredictable cross dissolves, alpha channel misinterpretation, etc.).
When I turn GPU acceleration off, cross dissolves and titles act as they  should, but scaled and time-altered video looks quite bad.
I'm working in Blackmagic native timelines (pick any--it's the same for  all) and have Adobe Premiere's Preview File Format set to "Uncompressed  10-bit YUV" with "Maximum Bit Depth" and "Maximum Render Quality"  checked... but the effected video still looks aliased.   Anyone else out there with this configuration having the same issue?
Best,
James

Premiere Pro CS5 v5.0.1

Thanks for the heads-up on Adobe's update, Todd.  I have installed 5.0.3 and it has solved many of the undesirable GPU-related issues.  I am now satisfied with the way GPU acceleration handles cross dissolves and alpha channels.  I feel like I'm now moving in the right direction, working with GPU-acceleration enabled for all projects.
That said, and in confirmation of my previous post, the only remaining issue seems to lie with how Blacmagic-native timelines interpret renders and preview files differently between a project with GPU acceleration enabled versus disabled.  Take, for example my previous list of renders from a Blackmagic-native timeline...
Render 1:  Mercury Playback Engine Software Only + "use previews" checked
Render 2:  Mercury Playback Engine Software Only + "use previews" unchecked
Render 3:  Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration + "use previews" checked
Render 4:  Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration + "use previews"  unchecked
With the 5.0.3 update, renders 3 and 4 are still the same as each other (no change here), but now all transitions and alpha composites look as expected (fixed!). Next up, renders 1 and 2 are now also the same as each other (fixed! A predictable result, unlike in v5.0.2).  The video is still aliased as before--but the fact that these two renders are now the same helps pinpoint the aliasing issue to Blackmagic's handling of GPU disabled renders.
In short, the Adobe Premiere update 5.0.3 addresses and corrects all known GPU-related rendering issues within Premiere-native timelines.  And, because of this, any distinction seen between "GPU Acceleration" and "Software Only" renders from a Blackmagic-native timeline have been reduced to a mere curiosity.
My thanks to Adobe and everyone who posted here to help solve such a convoluted issue!
Best,
James

  • Can not capture with CS6 and blackmagic multibridge pro on HP Z820

    This is the setup:
    Z820 and Windows 7 pro
    Multibridge Pro and driver 9.7.7
    CS6.0.5
In premiere I can not capture via the Multibridge. The app crash when entering capture mode. I can not change setting in my capture device.
On the same PC I CAN capture with Media Composer v7 and BM Media Express.
I've tried several version of the BM driver, no changes.
The BM PCIe card is in slot 1 and the PC bios I have update to v3.50.
    Anyone having the same experience?
    Regards
    Danny

Thanks for the reply. I know YouTube is not the way to check quality but it shows the stutter in playback. The quality wasn't the issue and it is filmed with my phone. The video shows what it needs to show.
Disk setup is a ddp server (check http://www.dynamicdrivepool.com/ for info) connected with 2 network cables for optimal speed.
Video cars is a NVIDIA Quadro K4000.
Premiere Pro CC is up to date with the latest version.
Export settings? I think you mean sequence settings:
For the record: I'm not trying to play a sequence with multiple layers of video of different codecs and loaded with effects. It's just a video chopped to pieces and an adjustment layer with some simple effects. The way Adobe is advertising the performance of Premiere Pro, one would think that couldn't be a problem for any Z820. Or that's what I was thinking. Hope you or anyone can help.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 with Blackmagic Multibridge Pro

After having upgraded to Premiere CS5 and Blackmagic 7.6.4, I am experiencing a short list of undesirable video playback results (that were not present in CS4 with Blackmagic 7.6).  The issues are likely specific to Blackmagic with Premiere, so I'll spare everyone the details for now -- If anyone out there is using a similarly equipped system, please chime in--I'd like to run some of this past you, see if you're having the same issues and troubleshoot either way.  Thanks!

In the time since my original post, both Adobe and Blackmagic have released several updates, resolving most of the issues which led me to start this thread. Still, there are always quirks and curiosities specific to each editing system and its unique configuration, so I'll just bump this thread with an open invitation to anyone--with problems, questions, kudos or curiosities--regarding the use of Adobe Premiere Pro software with Blackmagic Design hardware.

  • Blackmagic Multibridge Pro

Has anyone had luck with the Multibridge Pro and external monitoring with Color? I am upgrading from AJA Io and have a 36" LCD w/ HDMI and I'm hoping that buying the Multibridge Pro with HDMI out will allow me to color correct on the LCD from Color.

We have both a Kona LHe and Multibridge Pro, and as far as I know the MB is not qualified to work with Color - the IO demands are such that it needs an onboard card - either Decklink or Kona, with most people favouring the AJA card (but my Blackmagic service experience has been good).
If I get a chance I'll try it for you - they're a great box if you get one that works for more than a week!
LCD colour correction - ooh! Depends what you're using it for of course... broadcast? Has to be REALLY carefully set up, with LUTs and all...

  • No 3D chart anti-aliasing with 3D Grow effect on Mac Mini

Today I have just purchased a Mac mini for the main purpose of rendering Keynote animated 3D charts for a doco I'm editing. I am using Keynote '08 (4.0.3).
As it turns out, anti-aliasing works on the 3D charts as long as there is no '3D Grow' effect on them. However, if I apply a '3D Grow' effect and view the slideshow, I get the jaggies and no anti-aliasing, even when the animation has finished. I also get no anti-aliasing when exporting as Quicktime in any format.
I get anit-aliasing on my Mac Pro at work, but not on this Mac Mini so I wonder if there is some incompatibility with Keynote and the Mac mini graphics capabilities.

    Hi, thanks for your response.
Actually, I have no transitions grayed out, although for the build effects on Charts, 'Flame' is indicated as unable to be used on this computer.... so you're right, it doesn't look good. Strange that I can use a build effect like Sparkle or Shimmer which are anti-aliased but for 3D grow, some growing blocks of a chart can't be anti-aliased
I guess it's back to the store to try and exchange this mac mini for an Imac.

  • FCP, Beta SP and Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme capture card

I'm having problems getting a video signal into FCP via a Multibridge Exteme capture card by Blackmagic Design. I currently have device control and am able to view footage already in FCP on an NTSC monitor so it appears as though the capture card is working. I have my capture setting set to blackmagic NTSC-10 bit (i've tried several different settings). I have the deck connected to the card through the component ports. Here are the specs on what i'm working with:
    Mac Pro dual 3.0GHz Xeon
    10 GBs of RAM
Blackmagic Multibridge Extreme capture card w/ breakout box
    Sony PVW-2650 Beta SP player
    FCP 5.1.4
    Quicktime 7.1.6
    OSX 10.4.10

Under System Preferences go to the Decklink Preferences.
Change the input from SDI to Component and XLR audio
    Problem solved.

  • Blackmagic Multibridge Pro AV Output?

I had this working on my MacPro 4,1 with the 9.5.1 (I think) drivers from Blackmagic. I updated the drivers to 9.5.3, and I have lost AV Output. It shows up in the preference, and they are matching with the decklink driver preferences. I tried to roll back to 9.5.1, but no luck. Is anyone else seeing issues like this, or could anyone offer up some troubleshooting ideas?
    10.7.4, FCPX 10.0.5.

  • Installing CS5 and Acrobat 9 Pro problem

Just wondering if anyone can help me on line.  I have tried the chat session which took a long time to get connected to an agent, I was informed that they could not help me there as they only worked with CS6 and up.  They referred me to the forum.  So, I am not sure if I am in the right place but here goes.
I am trying to install the Adobe Creative Suite 5 Design Premium software that I bought years ago on an older iMac computer (2007) I believe.  The hard drive failed recently and I had a new one put in which included the operating system, OS X 10.6.8.  I have recently tried to install Adobe CS5 which I purchased some years ago.  The software package had the Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro disc which helps to install the CS5 package.  I have tried to install Acrobat 9 Pro twice and I now get the following error message:
The Finder can’t complete the operation because some data in “DistillerLib” can’t be read or written.
    (Error code -36)
I did not notice this message the first time I tried to install the entire package so on the first attempt I went on to trying to install the CS5 Design Premium disc next.  It attempted for a good while to try and install it but ultimately stopped.  I have gone to the support site and uninstalled the CS5 Design Premium files that were left on there thinking I could start over.  So, I put back in the Acrobat 9 Pro disc and it said there was an Acrobat 9 Pro file there and did I want to replace it.  I said yes, and then as it attempted to replace these files, I got the message stated above about the DistillerLib error ode - 36.
I do have a membership for Adobe Creative Cloud and I can only put the latest software available there on my other 2 computers.  This computer I am trying to put the CS5 software (standalone) is for my granddaughter who I am trying to help learn Photoshop and Illustrator.  The computer I am trying to put this on is the one I had bought for my son who recently passed away.  At this time I can't get another subscription for my granddaughter.  So, how can I get this CS5 package installed or do I have to take the computer back to the technical folks who put in the hard drive to help me.  I saw on the support site instructions for installing CS5 but as you can see from my discussion, this is not working for me now.  Is it the operating system causing problems for this older version of Creative Suite CS5?  ...... or is it Acrobat 9 Pro?

  • Help with PS and HDR Effect Pro from Nik

I altready have a help request into Nik Software, but was hoping someone here could offer some suggestions.
I'm running the Nik Complete software program on Win 7 64Bit, Raid 5 machine. 8800 GTS 512 MB card; 12gb of RAM, i7 quad core, 2.67 GH, PS CS5 and Lightroom 3.2, Wacom Intuos 3 tablet.
I have the most updated drivers for video, wacom tablet. OS is current with updates. PS CS5 is updated, but I am NOT running Lightroom's 3.3 RC.
I updated all software updates for the NIK software collection from their site and still have the same problem even after uninstall and re-install.
When I attempt to run HDR Efect Pro I get the menu window to select my images, click ok and with in seconds I get the message that Adobe Photoshop CS5 has stoopped working and must close...
I've gone to their site and looked into their FAQ/troubleshooting and did all their recommendations, update drivers, look for color profiles with 0 Bytes in the system color spool for both 32 and 64 bit apps and still no luck. This also happens with CS4 and CS3 and if I attempt to use the program form Lightroom and Bridge. Any ideas, work arounds, suggestions? Their automatic reply from my support request says 2-3 days due to the high populaity of their program!!!
Thanks for any and all help.

Outside of suggesting some pretty generic things, I can't offer much help...  I don't use Nik products myself
You could try disabling the "Use OpenGL Drawing" setting in Photoshop as a workaround to see if that helps.  Perhaps between Photoshop and the plug-in problems are being caused in the OpenGL driver for your particular video card.
Also, given that 3rd party plug-ins and Photoshop could be competing for memory, you could try changing the amount of memory Photoshop is allowed to use in the Edit - Preferences - Performance dialog.
    Good luck.

  • Windows 7 Firewire Issues with CS5 and ADVC-700

I've got a Windows 7, 64 bit system with CS 5. In dubbing out for playback, I route a firewire cable from the PC to an Canopus/Grass Valley ADVC-700. Both units are less than a year old and are having issues with "black outs" during the dub out process. I've read different things about Windows 7 having issues with firewire drivers. After speaking to someone with Adobe, I've changed my firewire driver to Legacy. That hasn't helped.
The ADVC-700 has s-video out running to preview monitor and BNC out/XLR audio running to my playback system for ingest. When the video goes to black (usually for a 1/2 second), the audio drops out with it.
I've reset the settings on the ADVC-700 with no luck.
Any suggestions on a fix or something else to try?

I did test with a JVC GY-HD200U and there weren't any performance issues which led me back to the PC or other on the PC.
The system is running Windows 7, 64 bit with CS5 Production Premium following an upgrade from the CS4 version.
I've got 12 GB of Ram, (2) Intel Xeon Quad Core E5560 -2.8 GHZ processoCrs.
    (1) 500GB SATA2 hard drive, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (System Drive)
    (3) 1 TB SATA2 Hard drives, 7200 RPM, 32 MC (3 TB, RAID0 Storage Drive)
    Nvidia GeForce 9800GT graphics Card
    Supermicro X8DAi motherboard, Intel 5520 Chipset, 2-PCIe X16, 1 PCIe x4, 3-PCI, 10-USB2 ports, 2-pro/1000 NIC, 8-channel HD audio, 6 SATA ports, RAID 0/1/5/10
I've got the legacy drivers for the firewire card. I've checked to make sure all of the power save options are off along with all screen saver options. I've cleaned my Adobe Cache out, deleted my Adobe Preferences, went from the 4pin/6pin cable to a 6pin/6pin cable to feed the ADVC-700 from the PC, reset the ADVC 700 back to factory specs...all of this with no luck.
The problem seems to be worse since the move from CS4 to CS5 but it's hard to tell.
I've also hooked up an older ADVC-500 unit with the same output results.
I think I noted in the first post that this is happening on two indentical systems with the same cabling and programs and the same ADVC-700 boxes.
I've been told by Adobe to clean my C; drive and reload the OS and Adobe CS5 as I should have done that when I upgraded instead of just upgrading the system from CS4 to CS5 using the discs. I haven't done this yet as I have to budget time/workflow to accomodate.

  • Can't open print settings with CS5 and Epson R1900

In Photoshop CS5, go to File > Print.  In the Print dialogue window, click on Print Settings... and no response.  The blue Print button in the lower right corner flashes when I click, but nothing else happens.
I've tried running Photoshop in 32-bit mode as well.  Doesn't behave differently.
Running on a Mac Pro 2.26 GHz (most current generation).
    12 GB RAM
    OS 10.6.4
Printer is connected to Airport Extreme USB (most current generation).
Can successfully print with CS4; seems to be a new issue with CS5.
Hope I've included enough info to troubleshoot this problem.
    Thanks for any help!
    Brian,.

I've been trying to trouble shoot this problem since the beginning of September. I wasn't sure if it was a snow leopard issue, a Driver issue, or a CS5 issue. I guess it's CS5. I recently discovered the work around of asking Photoshop to manage the colors, opening the print settings, saving, then returning to printer managing colors but this just doesn't cut it in our graphics lab. We need the settings to be as straight forward as possible for our students.
Also, unrelated sort of, Photoshop remembers the settings from the previous print job. Which again doesn't work well in a lab/public environment. So if jimmy printed 20 copies of a file and set it to print colors as gray; Susie, the next in line, would have the same print settings for her file. This seems to only happen with photoshop. Not Preview, not safari, nor any other program.
We're seriously considering moving back to CS4.
...at least that had contact sheets.

  • Have OnOne software Suite used with cs5 always crashing MACbook Pro

I Have OnOneSoftware Suite used with CS5 PS and Lightroom 3..Work with Canon 5dMark11 (so files are big) ..always crashing when going into OnOne..Do I need more ram?
I have a macbookPro, late 2009, with 4GB Ram. ALso can I installed more on that model? Thanks for help in advance!

That's not an issue with the MacBook Pro hardware.  You should either visit the OnOneSoftware website or Adobe.  They'll provide you with a better/faster/more useful answer.

  • Prores422HQ with noises through Blackmagicdesign Multibridge Pro

Has anyone experiencing blue noise showing in Prores422HQ through Multibridge Pro with HDSDI output? Same configuration on capturing sometimes having black frames recorded, too.

Ah bummer (and here I was hoping it could be easily solved) .
I'll still try a fresh system install in a few days time, to make absolutely sure it isn't software-related (against better judgement perhaps in the light of your findings, but at least I'll be able to tell support its definitely not an sw problem). If indeed the problem persists I guess there won't be any other choice than to contact support again (But since I can't afford the computer not to be available for the coming 2 months I guess I'll have to bear it for the time being, which in turns also means I won't be able to let you know if it got fixed until I'm able to bring her in).
Oh and fyi, I also have a second hard-drive installed (Seagate Barracuda 500Gb, same as the factory installed primary one), but that cannot be the cause of the beeping, as I actually bought it because of this problem (to backup my important files while my Mac went in for service the first time). So we can't blame these poor drives for our problem .
Anyway, definitely thanks for chiming in (makes me feel a little bit better knowing that I'm at least not the only one experiencing this annoying problem, although obviously I wished I shouldn't have to feel better about this ) and I'll keep you updated on any further steps made towards solving this problem, even though it may take a while as explained above.
    Cheers!

  • Any experience with Paralles and Windows XP Pro? Advise?

I am new in Mac world. I understand Parallels software will let you install windows on a HD partition.
Any suggestions to make this process as expedite as possible?
How big is the partition required?
Is it possible install windows based aplications on that partition? software?

I have a core 2 Duo (3.33) iMac with 8GB and run Parallels 7 with a Windows 7 operating system. I use it for surfing the web and Microsoft business applications. I find no problem with heat and speed. For everything else, I use OSX.
I was using the same product/operating system on a MacBook Pro (2005) Core 2 Duo with 8GB of RAM and had no difficuties either.
THe problem with Bootcamp is you have to reboot your machine to switch between OSX and Windows. That was a killer for me. In addtion, with Parallels, you can drag files accross platforms if necessary.
I haven't tried Fusion. You can download a trail of Parallels and see how you like it before you commit to a purchase. There are online sales from time to time and you can buy the product for less than $40.00.

  • Prinitng issue with CS5 and Epson pro3800 printer

CS5 will not hold printer driver settings after leaving driver setup screen. Eg., after setting ICM and choosing Adobe RGB color space and icc profile from menu, when you click OK, Adobe screen reverts to Photoshop adjusts colors and not printer adjust colors as it should. If you change the setting manually, when you renetr driver setup, it now shows 'no color management and not ICM as it should. This does not occur with CS3 or 4. Any help is appreciated.

I don't have this problem but i can tell you printing out of CS5 is a mess nothing works the way it should....check out my forum i started... right now i just chucked cs5 and went back to cs3
