Anti-Glare vs Glossy for FCS

Hi,
I am buying a MacBook Pro 15-inch 2.66GHz Core i7 as a desktop replacement for use with FCS. I am aware of the various pros/cons of the three available display options and have looked at many other topics on the forum. I am not particularly concerned about reflection or glare as I have used the glossy screen on my current MBP for several months now and do not find it to be problematic. However, what I really need to know is which screen config is better suited for use with FCS. I have read several posts that suggest that the Anti-Glare screen has more accurate colour reproduction.
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Acros-Krik

Tom,
Thanks for taking the time to comment. I am aware of the limitations of computer screens (and not just on the MBP). The most important things is that it be +as close to the original as possible+.
As explained above, I have read comments from other graphic designers that suggest that there is a significant difference in the colour reproduction on the 2 screens. I cannot test this out for myself because the Apple Store on Regent St does not have any Anti-Glare screens on display.
Unfortunately, I do not always have access to my external monitor as I travel a lot. So...what I am really asking is which screen handles colour reproduction better?
Regards,
Acros-Krik

  • Anti-glare and glossy screens

When you buy a macbookpro does it come with an anti-glare or glossy screen?
If you get to choose, is there a difference with price?

glossy is the default on both the retina and non-retina.  Anti-glare is available only on the 15" as part of the higher-resolution screen option on the non-retina.  It's $100 extra for that option.
The retina MBP isn't as glossy as the non-retina.  I'd recommend checking them out in an Apple store first, as the stores all usually display models with each type of screen.

I've bought from them several times for various cell phones and my new Blackberry. They sell them in sets of 3 for about $6.50 for the set. You can also look on ebay for these things.
Good luck and if anybody orders from here, please post so others will know the results.
I'm having trouble looking for them on ebay. I don't what to search for. I kept typing in anti-glare protectors for mp3 players, but there no results.

  • Anti Glare or Glossy?

    Hi All,
I was just wondering if it makes a big difference in a club (dj'ing) using a mac book pro with a glossy screen or an anti glare screen?
Any opinions and experience on this would really be appreciated,
    Kind regards,
    Tom

you could. i had one on a mac, super pain in the foot to put on. only reason i didn't get one for this as i don't have it out very much anymore, so i control the glare at home. but figured I'd give the antiglare a try this time. the films are almost as much as the bto option. the film may dim the screen slightly, not sure by how much or if it will be noticeable.

  • Recommend anti-glare LCD monitor for MBP 13

Hello, I need a decent quality antiglare type monitor to be the external monitor for graphics work with my MacBook Pro 13 inch unibody. I just tried an HP ZR24w but was not able to get it working. The monitor would light up for one second and my desktop showed, then it would immediately go dark. Apple support could not help, HP support  kept me on hold for 45 min. and then dropped my call.
Unfortunately Apple no longer makes antiglare monitors for its graphics professional community. If they did I would buy an Apple monitor. I am currently using an old Apple Cinema Display but it has a bad case of creeping screen defects and looks terrible.
Is anyone out there sucessfully using an external monitor with MBP that has an antiglare screen, does 1920 x 1200 res and has an IPS LCD?
The usual suspects that people recommend for graphics work in the mid-range are Dell ultra-sharp and HP LP2475w. Since I do less graphics work than I used to I thought the ZR24w would be a good affordable option, however since I could not get it to work I am concerned that none of these other monitors will be compatible either. Buying and returning vis mail order is expensive... would really appreciate hearing what other people are using.
Please let me know what connector you are using. I tried the ZR24w with both DVI and displayPort but neither of these options work for me. Apple tech support was stumped and blamed it on HP.
    Any thoughts?
    TIA!

There should be a anti-glare option on ALL Mac's, however the 13" is certainly the next prime candidate for one given that they rolled out anti-glare for the 17" first, then the 15" next.

  • Anyone using an anti-glare screen cover for Macbook?

I plan on buying a Macbook and would like to use an anti-glare screen. Any recommendations?

If you plan to use it in public areas, consider the 3M privacy filters, they have matte/shiny sides so you can use whichever you prefer.

  • Anti-glare Screen Protector for iPhone 5

I really like the feeling and the performance of anti-glare screen protector, any recommendation for it? As far as I know, Sir Lancelot's Armor, Green Onion and power support(not released yet) are the best in my opinion.

I can't imagine that they would take it.
Ask them tomorrow, but I cannot see a reason why they would take a return on a used product

  • Power Support Anti-Glare Film Set for iPhone 3G - DIY or Apple store?

    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TS504?mco=MTM4OTI
So shopping around for cases and accesories for my 3G, I saw this. A friend who also has 3G had an Apple store employee "install" his. Am I better off ordering it online and doing it myself or just going to the Apple store, buy it there, and have them do it?
My main concern are the airbubbles that more than likely get stuck in there as I've had w/ similar products.

I have had a film that seems to look similar to what they are selling there for my old AXIM X30. That thing was awesome and I can't find the company where I bought it anymore.
Once the film seemed old and scratched, I was able to remove it, wash it with dishwashing liquid and reinstall it. I used it for over 2, maybe even 3 years with great success and I would love to have that again. I think I will try it.
I have had 4 films for my new iPhone and all of them are/were crap. They all smudged and eventually ended up pealing. Now, my phone is a device I use, not baby. It is a tool for my and not the holly grail. So I need something tough.
I'll be at the Mac store this afternoon.....

  • Glossy vs. Anti-glare: Is it worth $700?

    Debating between the:
    13-inch : 2.53GHz - $1,399.00
    15-inch : 2.8GHz (anti-glare option) - $2,099.00
I would just go ahead and get the 13 inch, but I'm worried about the glossy screen. I've read that some people get headaches (which I have a problem with) or get distracted because the screen is so reflective (a pet-peeve of mine). Because of this, I am considering spending $700 more for the 15-inch with the anti-glare option. Is it worth it?
And will the 13-inch model ever come out with an anti-glare option?
Also, do the anti-glare screen films really work?
    Personal experience is appreciated.
    Thank you!

Any 15" MBP can have the anti-glare option added for $50.00. At least on the Apple store.
The difference between the two is striking in my opinion. I in fact waited over two years before upgrading to a new MBP because this option was no longer available. All of my Apple laptops have had Matte screens, and that is the way a laptop screen should look. At least if you ever plan to use it outside, in front of any light source or for any kind of photo or video editing. ;o)
These after-market "films" you stick over a glossy screen are not the same as the real thing.
The other difference is color accuracy. If you want a color accurate display, then get the Matte screen (Anti-glare). The reflection problem on the glossy is ridiculous as well, so when you add color accuracy and reflection free viewing to the equation, it is easily worth the difference.
The best way to make this decision for yourself is to pay a visit to an Apple store and compare the two side by side. If you think the glossy screen looks better, then buy it! ;o)
I seriously doubt that anyone who makes this comparison would choose that route however. The glossy screen was basically designed to appeal to "Consumers". The Matte screen was brought back because of the demand by the professional user community who NEED a color accurate display for photo and video editing.

  • Anti-Glare 1680x1050 Resolution Question

    Hello Gang,
I have a question, please. I have had anti-glare 15" MBP for years and after using my wifes new Glossy Screen MPB I know I would hate it so I am going to purchase a new anti-glare MBP, However, they do not seem to come in native 1440X900 Resolution anymore. Since my local Apple Stores do not have one to test out can anyone tell me if the text on the native 1680X1050 models is really that mush smaller? My eyes have just settled into a new pair if biofocals so I would hate to have go through that all over again.
Yes, I know the resolution can be changed but it never really looks good when you can from the native resolution.
    TIA,
    James

I don't have one of the new anti-glare HD models, but I am assuming (and hoping that someone will jump in and correct me if I'm wrong) that resolution can be set lower, just as in any Mac model. Look at the 'supported resolutions' on this page - http://support.apple.com/kb/SP649.

The native resolution is 1680x1050, changing it will result in signficantly lower quality, this is not a solution.

  • Eye Strain from Macbook Pro (2012) Anti-Glare?

    Hi everyone,
I am thinking about buying my mother a macbook pro. She has been using macbook (2007) until today, so it will be a great gift.
Her eyes are not that good and can get motion sick easily (if that matters...), so I would like to know if any one had noticed eye strains, headach, etc from anti-glare version of macbook pro. I heard regular and glossy displays have possibility of causing such symptoms so those are out of options. So anti-glare or retina? Retina version is more than what she needs but I heard retina display could be better than anti-glare for someone. I am willing to pay retina version if anti-glare display causes eye strains while retina display does not. I would like to hear some experiences, thoughts, and advices. Taking her to store and test those displays would be best, but I would like to avoid it, since I want this to be a surprise gift. However, If I had to take her to store, how should I test which display is good for her?
    Thank you very much!

I can only tell you my experience after having used the anti-glare screen for over 5 years.  I can sit in front of my laptop for hours without any adverse effects.  I passed on the retina Macbook Pro because it seems like an abomination not to offer such a beautiful screen in anti-glare format.  The retina is less glossy than the regular screen, but nowhere close to the anti-glare in comfort (for me, at least).
I would check with her doctor, too.  It may actually be that a screen with a smaller native resolution is better for her.

  • Anti-Glare Film Set, bad clarity?

    Greetings all,
I recently picked up Power Support's Anti-glare film set for the 3G. I took my time and followed the instructions for installation. My complaint is that the screen is extremely grainy. It's almost like there should be a top layer of the film to peel back like the Belkin screen protectors. It's highly noticeable when using Safari, Email, and other primarily white applications.
I am wondering if this is normal for the screen protector, or did I not clean the screen good enough? I have the one film left and before I attempt it again I would like to see if anyone could provide some clarity on my clarity issue.
    Thanks!

Go the Apple store, or order online a "Crystal" film for the iPhone. They make 2 versions, a smooth and an anti-glare. Be sure to buy the correct one that you want.
I use the smooth, and it is virtually invisible, its smooth, no degradation of the image quality. It works perfectly
I would suggest buying a couple of them because applying them can be tricky due to dust, finger prints etc. Its not too hard to do, but you can sometimes get dust trapped underneath the film when installing it because it takes a bit of trial and error to line it up nicely.
Its the best "skin" for the iphone. Stay away from the invisible shield like products. They dont work well on the iphone and they peel off because the corners do not really adhere well. I had one on the back of my phone, and used a crystal clear smooth film on the front. Eventually the corders of the invisible shield peeled up, and dust got underneath and it looked like poop. So i took it off. BTW when you take those Invisible Shield like products off, they peel up the ink on the back of the phone used to print your serial number. Luckly it didnt take it completely off, but i've heard of it happening. So be adviced.
Anyways, in the end... i realized i didnt need the Invisible Shield skin. It just doesnt do much for the phone. The Invisible Shield worked great on my iPod, but it just doesnt work on the iphone cause its edges are too rounded.
