Anti-reflective coating on iPhone camera lense wearing off

In the past few days, I've noticed that the anti-reflective coating on my iPhone lense has begun to wear off in blotches, producing a "rainbow" effect when observed in the proper room lighting. I purchased this phone on June 30, keep it stored in a Marware Sportsuit case that completely envelopes the device, and only use iKlear to clean the device every few days.
Although this doesn't seem to affect photos shot from indoors, it does seem to be producing funny lighting "spots" when shooting outdoors.
I'm curious to know who else out there is noticing this with their iPhone and, if so and you've contacted Apple for assistance, what sort of response did you receive? Was it handled under AppleCare, did you have to send it in or was a replacement provided in-store, etc?
TIA

Yesterday I made an appt with a genius and we compared my camera with his. Pointed them both side by side at the overhead lights in the Apple Store. We could plainly see the haze on my phone most pronounced on the illuminated signs that say 'Kids', 'Peripherals' or whatever.
The genius said it would have to be sent for repair or replacement - he wasn't sure of course whether they would actually replace the lens or just send me a new iPhone. I'm guessing they'll just send me a new one though b/c it would seem pretty crazy for them to actually repair it. I haven't looked at disassembly photos of the iPhone but maybe the lens cover is part of the back metallic case cover and can be easily swapped out?
Either way I'm sure they'll take care of it. I did get a loaner iPhone and had some minor issues getting that going but that's another story.
Another note - while waiting in the store I checked out another customer's iPhone that was bringing his in for some other problem looked at his lens and it had spots on it that wouldn't come off as well.
While I have the loaner I'm going to experiment with applying some sort of screen protector material to cover the lens so I'm ready to preserve mine when it comes back!

  • Anti-reflective coating on the Macbook?

Here is an article posted by The Inquirer today. Is this true?
To combat this, Apple has added an anti-reflective coating to the Macbook's screen, and this does reduce the mirror effect quite significantly. The screen is the one common factor across the new Macbook range, but the three models vary in a number of other respects. The cheapest version costs £749 and is equipped with a 1.83GHz Core Duo processor, 512MB RAM, 60GB hard disk and a CD-RW/DVD-Rom drive.
Read the full article here: http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=31877
    MacBook Mac OS X (10.4.6) Core Duo 2.0Ghz, 1GB RAM, 60GB HDD

    That sounds about right.
I didn't expect there would be any truth to the article.
Apple has never responded to complaints that fast before. So, I wouldn't expect it to start doing so now.
Personally, the only things keeping me away from the MacBook at this point are the Integrated Graphics, and Glossy Screen.
I still need to evaluate them personally. But, will need to find a store that is going to be more accompanying to my thorough testing first. I will want to see first-hand how durable the screen is before purchasing.

  • The iPad Air 2 anti-reflective coating is useless with a screen protector.

This is more of a statement than a question, but until Apple sells an iPad with a sapphire display, I'll be using a screen protector. Screen protectors negate the anti-reflective coating, leaving you with a screen that is just less bright and less power efficient than the previous generation. Pretty lame, huh? (There's my question!)

Educate yourself a bit before you attempt to answer for the general public.

I see you're a Steelers fan, so you're probably not the sharpest tool in the shed, but see if you can read the entire page. The only drastic improvement over the iPad Air display is the anti-reflective coating.
    Er, uh..."Wow!"

  • IPhone 5 screen wearing off and battery doesn't work properly.

I've started having this issue almost from the start. It's wearing off from the bottom right side of the phone and even my battery drains faster + the bar shows wrong percentage. My phones warranty is also void now + I couldn't take it to the Apple Store for replacement cause there's no Apple store in my country. anyway my bro is going to Norway after 2weeks so he'll take my phone to the Apple Store to see if they'll fix it for free or replace the device. Do you guys think if they will resolve the issue?
If not i don't think ill buy anything from apple again, my friends also had this problem But if they do resolve it i will be really greatful of them.

First, the phone can only be serviced in the country where it has been bought. And, given the age and use of the phone, it might be time to get the battery replaced by Apple or an Authorized Apple Service Provider. If your device is out of warranty, Apple will not replace it for free, you'll have to pay the Out-Of-Warranty-Service fee:

  • Anti Reflective coating on macbook pro retina display problems

The AR coating is coming off of my macbook pro retina display.  laptop purchased in fall of 2013.  anyone else seeing this issue?

You are not the first one. Every laptop with retina display that I know in Latvia has this problem.
Hope that Apple reads such claims and will do something on upcoming models.

  • Iphone camera app disappeared off my homepage

I can still access the camera from outisde the phone on the lockscreen or through the search on the far left side. There's a second thing missing, and I can't remember what it is, but it's space is empty. What can I do to get the camera to display on the homepage? This is so strange.

Try disabling restrictions first, from Settings > Restrictions. If you want to find more information about restrictions, take a look at this Apple doc -> iOS: Understanding Restrictions
Then try Resetting the Home Screen Layout from Settings > General > Reset. That would put all icons back in their default location.

  • Anti-***Reflective***, not Anti-Glare, iPhone/iPad Screen Protector?

Short version:  Does anybody know of a true anti-reflective screen-protector sheet for iPhone 4S or for iPad?
    More detail:
Way back on my old iPhone 3G, I had an anti-reflective screen protector sheet.  It worked really really great in direct-sunlight environments!  The only downside was that it did show up fingerprints, but they didn't show up much when the screen was on, and they were easy to clean off.
When it finally wore out, I bought somebody else's screen protector that they called anti-reflective, but it was actually just anti-glare.  **Anti-glare** is that frosty finish that does not actually dim reflections, but instead makes them fuzzy.  In fact, it makes the image on the screen a bit fuzzy too, which is why I don't like them.  **Anti-reflective** is like a camera lens, or most glasses, where it reflects images still completely focused (and doesn't fuzz up the screen image either), but reflects it at a much dimmer intensity, often with a greenish hue.
Best I can tell, no such product exists anymore, for iPhone or for iPad.  Do any of you know of such a thing?

I did spend some time searching, but could not find any similar discussion in this forum.
That is because this is NOT a discussion forum.
It is hosted by Apple for asking technical support questions
Suggest you read the terms on use of this forum for future reference
and read carefully the link provided above by Pogster
You are lucky Apple actually fixed it for you considering the terms for returning for repair were not followed

  • Reflective coating wearing out

The screen on my Rev A MBA has an anti-reflective coating (finish). It is begining to wear through in a few places. Has anyone ever dealt with this situation? Is there a coating or a film that works?

The coating wears off.  Google for an appropriate solvent, and be aware that the solvent is likely to cause damage to the case.  Be very careful.

  • Dust under iPhone 5 camera lense, no warranty

My iPhone 5 has recently acquired some dust under the camera lense, which shows up in pictures. My applecare has run out, have I got any chance of getting any help from apple? I've read some threads saying they got it cleaned out at the apple store, is it possible they'd do this for me, even though I'm out of warranty?
    Thanks

What am I supposed to do?
Never take any photo with my phone?!!
Or spend hundreds of dollars to fix the camera? (I probably could buy a new phone with that much money!!)
I found the dust after my warranty expired, and I was told apple won't help me to fix it.
I never had any problem with my iphone4, which is a great product by Jobs. The iphone5 is very disappointing. You have to use a case to protect it from scratches. Many people found dust inside their cameras, luckily some found that problem during their warranty. I couldn't believe apple would deliver a product with so many problems to us, at least Jobs wouldn't.
During that one year period, I will assume the dust accumulated while being in your pocket.
I had a iphone since the 3GS and now a 5S and had a few dust in my camera lenses, but nothing that would impede me from taking good quality pictures.

  • Why is the coating of iPhone 5 black phone comes off within sometime

coating of the black iphone 5 wears off. customer care as an exception replaced the phone. requested them to replace with the white iphone as black phone has an issue. after getting a replacepment the coating came off within 2 months of usage.

Thx Rojmer for your prompt reply. Let me tell u thats not the case. i have iphone 4 which is still in immaculate condition after using it for couple of years. i do not keep my phone in my pocket. i have many friends facing the same problem and the videos on youtube reconfirm the same. which is why i had insisted on getting a replacement in white color as it does not have any coating on it. the quality is detoriating. we put in our hard earn money to buy expensive smart phones and what u get is a sub standard product. NOT ACCEPTABLE

  • Iphone camera issue when using flash

camera takes photo when flash is off.  when we use flash, no matter what we do, the photo is all white

Is there a case on the iPhone? Is it designed for that verison of the iPhone? What color is the case and what color is the back of the phone? It is possible this "wash" is being caused by a reflection of the flash on the case. This can reflect back on the camera lens and wash out the picture.

  • Anti glare coating

Hi does anyone know if there is any way of reducing the anti glare sparkle on the screen?
I have a 8 month old 30" cinema display which is perfect
I also have a 1 week old 30" (which was replaced because the first one had a problem with lines in solid blue) The replacement has too much anti glare coating, making it very visible on white backgrounds.
Its like vasoline! Anyone know if theres anything that can be done about this?

Apple sent replacement, which came with a dead pixel etc so it's going back. I'll have to get used to the one I have, which apart from the over sparkly coating the colours are excellent.
The conclusion I've reached is that they must have started adding more anti-glare since my other 30" was made.

  • How can I get the many photos from my iPhone Camera Roll onto my iPad (no OS 7 on either) - thanks!

How can I get all of the photos from my iPhone Camera Roll onto my iPad3?  Both are running OS 5x and 6x.  Thank you -

    Hey David152,
Thanks for the question. First, you’ll want to import the photos to your personal computer:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083
After doing so, you can then sync the photos over to your iPad:
iOS: Syncing your data with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
Also, you can enable Photo Stream so that new photos taken with your iPhone will automatically appear on your iPad. For more information regarding Photo Stream, see this resource:
    iCloud: My Photo Stream FAQ
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486
    Thanks,

Yes, under the Settings for the store, you can turn off the auto download for purchases, that way if you purchase an app on another device it will not automatically download on that device.  You would need to do this on both your iPad and iPhone.
