Antivirus Software - any suggestions?

Hello
I have a MacBook Pro 10.4.11 which I think may have a virus (someone told me that when I recently sent them an email, when they opened the email a virus started to download. And I get fireworks or UFOs appearing on the screen sometimes!?)
Can anyone suggest the best antivirus software for my Mac please?!

Apple recommends the following antivirus software programs:Intego's VirusBarrier X5, McAfee's VirusScan for Mac, and Symantec's Norton Anti-Virus 11
With a PC I have run Norton and McAfee and found both to take up a lot of system resources.

If you have to use old Digidesign now Avid stuff, try to get hold of a DIGI 003 or a MBox pro. The 002 really sounds horrific (no offense) and I doubt it will be of any use in ML, even the MBox pro sounds better……..
By the way, I thought that since ProTools 9 one could use any hardware of choice in combo. If you must use PTools, I would defiantly look for a more up to date hardware and Avid wouldn't be my first choice!

I am a remodel contractor. I previously had PC's in the office and have converted to Mac. I cannot find decent cabinet layout software that is also Mac compatable. Any suggestions?

There are no layout programs, specifically, designed for OS X to deal with just kitchen cabinet layout work.
There are a few interior layout programs both 2D/3D as well as straight CAD type programs for doing both 2D and/or 3D layout work.

Decent blu-ray authoring software - any suggestions?

I recently moved from PC to MAC and changed from Adobe to Final Cut Pro. I have no problems with authoring to DVD but I am struggling to see how I am going to do decent blu-ray authoring on MAC. Reason being is I have a number of clients that want both DVD and Blu-ray and I like to create interesting menus with background music. I am relatively happy with iDVD and DVD SP (which of course are not blu-ray compatible so no good to me) and I have just purchased Toast Titanium Pro and discovered you can not add music to the menu or do much else so it feels like a waste of money - any suggestions for good alternatives would be appreciated.

HI, sadly 10.5.8 doesn't support the newest iTunes.
First you need to research all the problems people are having with the higher OSX versions, & make sure you have a bootable clone of what you have just in case.
then you must get 10.6 if they still have it, install it & update to 10.6.8 so you have the App Store to buy & download the huge 10.8 Installer.

Desperate for good bridge card game software - any suggestions?

I bought my parents a new 20 inch Intel iMac for Christmas. My Dad likes it but doesn't understand why his bridge game software that we used on his 1999 blueberry iMac (using OS 9) can't work on his new computer. My dad is a sophisticated bridge card player and an unsophisticated computer user. Any help - I am desperate.

First remove the antivirus software, it's possible that could be part of your problem! Slow Mac's can be caused by many different issues, including failing HD's, a HD that is too full (OS X really likes to have about 10-15% of the HD available), insufficient RAM, etc.. To troubleshoot your problem I'd recommend looking over 25 Ways to Speed Up Your Mac.

I cannot get the updates for ipad to download. when it gets ready to process the file an error message pops up saying the software was unable to download and the network timed out. any suggestions...

i am trying to update the software on my ipad from 4.2 to 4.3.3 but i cannot get it to download. I get an error message that says the software was unable to download because the network timed out. I have tried to download it 7 or 8 different times and still get the same message. I cannot restore the factory settings either. The same thing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions? It did this when trying to update to 4.2. I don't remember how we were able to get the software to update. Thanks.

HT4972 I keep getting an error when trying to update my ipad software to IOS5. The error is a Network timeout error when in fact my connection to the internet is stable and strong. Any suggestions?

I've tried to update my ipad softward to the new IOS 5 software but keep getting internet connection errors.
Initially, I thought it was related to my internet connection but I've tried with full connection and still getting the same error.

I do not have any software for this and up until now have not had a problem....any help is appreciated. I would like a simple but effective solution!

It's worth noting that if your Gmail has been hacked, it would likely have nothing to do with your MacBook. Hacking web based email is fairly common and it doesn't require any access to your machine whatsoever. In the same way that you can simply go to the Gmail webpage through any browser, any hacker can use the same method. It doesn't mean your machine has been compromised in any way (and it has likely not been). I have never received an email from Google of this nature. I have received notifications when someone has attempted to create an account with my name in which they basically say that there is no action required if you're the rightful owner.

You didn't specify which way you are trying to update - using the Software Update setting on the iPad or by using iTunes. I will assume that you are using iTunes because the kb article that linkd you to here was the one about iTunes error codes.
Quit iTunes, reset your iPad, restart your computer and try again. Disable your firewall and antivirus software of you are using it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
